The explorer's spirit is something many of us have felt ourselves; the need to search out the unknown, and to see the previously unseen. In this episode, we will tell the story of a man who greatly influenced the Pacific Northwest of America and Canada through his survey work in these areas. Though he is often overlooked compared to other great explorers, his influence in the region is undeniable. Hosted by Jamie Adams.

Hosted by Jamie Adams. Valerie Nessel (John's widow) line by Stacey Adams.
Redemption is the act of being brought back from a path of destruction and set on the path of freedom and righteousness. It is a critical piece of anyone's story who seeks to pursue virtue and live to their full potential. One of American pop-culture's most vivid examples of redemption is in the life of legendary country music star Johnny Cash. In this episode, we will tell the story of his poverty-stricken childhood, his journey to stardom, and his eventual descent down the road of addiction. And we will explore how his story of redemption can also be an example for our own. Hosted by Jamie Adams.

Envy is a deep-seated discontentment with what one has when compared to others. It is a sin that combines feelings of covetousness, jealousy, and selfishness. The envious man can never show genuine happiness for the success of others, because he is always left comparing it to himself and questioning its merit - always seeing it as a slight against himself. One of history's most devastating examples of envy is perhaps America's greatest hero-turned-villain, Benedict Arnold. In this episode, we'll delve into his life as an American patriot during the Revolutionary War, how he rose through the ranks to become one of George Washington's most trusted generals, and how his envy led him to betray the country he had once fought so hard to defend. Hosted by Jamie Adams.
Lust is the overwhelming desire for something that yields physical gratification. The object of one's lust is often forbidden or considered deviant. The desire most thought of when considering lust is that of a sexual nature. Nearly every man can relate to this kind of lust because most have fallen prey to and continue to battle against it. We can easily consider some of the most obvious examples of lust, but often ignore the temptation festering in our own minds and how we are just one step away from falling into its clutches. One man who succumbed to such a trap was the most celebrated leader of the ancient Kingdom of Israel - King David. In this episode, we'll explore what led to his rise to power and how he nearly threw it all away when he allowed lustful temptation to get control of him. Hosted by Jamie Adams.
Greed is an uncontrollable, unquenchable desire to acquire more of something by any means necessary. The greed of an individual not only leads to the ultimate demise of themselves, but can directly result in the deprivation of others. The greed of some men sets the bar so high that few would debate its validity. One such man was Napoleon Bonaparte. In this episode, we'll explore the life of the infamous French military commander and discover how his odious desire for more led to not only his own downfall but to the demise of one of the largest armies ever assembled and their empire along with it. Hosted by Jamie Adams.

Teamwork is the positive collaboration between two or more individuals to accomplish a common goal. One such example of teamwork is that of two men whose bond and dedication to their mutual passion cemented their names in the history books - Edmund Hillary and Tenzing Norgay. Today's guest is actress Cobie Smulders. You may recognize Cobie from blockbuster films like The Avengers, The Avengers: Age of Ultron, Captain America: Winter Soldier and Jack Reacher: Never Go Back. She'll also be in the new Spidey film Spider-Man: Far from Home. I've been a fan of Cobie's for a while now. Her ability to jump from mega-blockbuster to ultra-low budget indie film has always fascinated me.One of the main reasons I wanted to chat with Cobie was to discuss her new film Alright Now. What makes her new film unique is that it was shot 100% Improv-style, just like I shot my film This is Meg and On the Corner of Ego and Desire. I wanted to see why an actress used to shooting big studio tentpoles would be attracted to making a low budget improv indie in the UK. What was her experience being out there acting with no net. Also what it was like working with Jamie Adams (who will be a guest in the show soon), the writer/director of Alright Now. Here's a bit about the film:ALRIGHT NOW follows Joanne (Cobie Smulders, “How I Met Your Mother, Avengers”) a rock musician who drunkenly enrolls in college after she breaks up with her boyfriend and her band falls apart. Convinced she will give the youngsters a run for their money, Joanne is shocked to discover that no one knows who she is and they could care less about her rock star past. Completely improvised and Directed by Jamie Adams (Black Mountain Poets), ALRIGHT NOW is a feel-good comedy about love, life and the search for new beginnings.Enjoy my conversation with actress Cobie Smulders.
Responsiveness is the quality of reacting to a need or calling and meeting it with a positive, deliberate action. It is fundamental in marriage, parenting, in the workplace, and especially in times of adversity. The responsive man gives himself to a task while refusing to allow danger or discomfort to prevent him from doing what is required. One of history's most vivid examples of responsiveness is the Biblical figure of Nehemiah. In this episode we will discover how his answer to a calling helped arouse his people out of shame and exile, and how his actions paved the way for historical events that still impact us to this very day. Hosted by Jamie Adams.
Resistance is the refusal to accept or comply with something forced upon an individual or group of people, usually by political or military forces. At its core, it is any action that rejects oppression and subjugation and chooses instead to fight for liberty and self-determination. One of modern history's most striking examples of resistance is the image of a young Chinese man standing in the way of a column of tanks in Beijing's Tiananmen Square. In this episode, we will tell the story of how this man's solitary action became the most recognizable symbol of resistance in modern history. Hosted by Jamie Adams.

Dissent is the outward expression of ideas and opinions contrary to those held by those in power. A dissenter is one who refuses to sit idly by while those in authority take actions they deem to be contrary to the wellbeing of themselves and the people they love. In this episode, we will tell the story of a man who stood against an authoritarian juggernaut and whose actions played a pivotal role in quelling all-out nuclear war. Hosted by Jamie Adams.

Band It About - Proudly Supporting Live Music "Podcast Series"
Julian Perrotta joins me in The Engine Room this week to discuss his musical journey for the BAND IT ABOUT - Podcast Series. Julian was born in South Australia and was first inspired to play the guitar as his father played. He soon discovered that he preferred drums and he received his first set of drums when he was around the age of 11. His first drum teacher was Jamie Adams who was someone that his dad knew through his local church. When Julian was in year 10 he began to have lessons again and by year 12 realised that this was what he wanted to do for a career. When he was about 16 or 17, Julian put together his first band who were called the 'New City Royals', the band did a mix of popular covers as well as some of their own original material. Julian currently performs with the original Melbourne rock band 'Vermantics', who recorded and produced their second album last year entirely from the confines of the Melbourne lockdown. Vermantics present the The Volume Collection is a collection of music created from the lounge-rooms of a band that just could not wait any longer for the studio to reopen! Julian has recently replaced Danny Leo on the throne for the 'Zep Boys', and also plays with 'Smile Pepper', 'Day Drive', 'Fighting For Everlong the Australian Foo Fighters Show', 'FIVE against ONE Australian Tribute to the music of Pearl Jam', and when required, the Rocket Rob Trio. Julian recently recorded a few songs and film clips with the original Adelaide band 'From Scratch', does a lot of fill in gigs with other local bands, and teaches drumming at his own business 'JP Drums & Percussion'. Sacrifice is the denial of oneself for the benefit of another. When we think of sacrifice, we often think of those who bravely give their lives in service of their country - a soldier who gives their life to save the lives of his brothers in arms. But rarely do we see sacrifice offered towards complete strangers. One such man is David Eubank. For over 20 years, David, his family, and their fellow-aid workers have risked everything for the benefit of strangers who later became like family. By telling David's story, we will seek to learn just what it takes for us to lay down our own needs for the betterment of others, and to do it with joy and thanksgiving. Hosted by Jamie Adams and featuring David Eubank himself, former Army Ranger and member of U.S. special forces and founder of the humanitarian movement Free Burma Rangers. PART 2: The Manhunt Law and order is the respect and obedience of the rule of law in society. This is something that is easily thought up and written down on paper, but is much harder to implement in the real world. The legends of great law men of history bring us back to the times of the Old West, and to violent days of gangsters and bootleggers. One such legendary law man was Frank Hamer. By exploring Hamer's life, we will seek to learn a lesson from the past - that without law and order, and those in place to enforce it, society is only one step away from anarchy. Hosted by Jamie Adams and featuring John Bossenecker, author of the New York Times best seller The Epic Life of Frank Hamer, The Man Who Killed Bonnie and Clyde.

Get to know the creators of Virtuous Men. The season finale takes an inside look at Season Two of the Virtuous Men Podcast. We'll discuss the making of each episode, how it has inspired us, and talk about future plans for Season 3. Hosted by Jamie Adams and Scott Einig.
Boldness is a virtue marked by an ability and willingness to risk everything in order to accomplish something meaningful. For one to have boldness, they must overcome adversity and have the courage to keep moving forward - no matter what or who stands in their way. The virtue of boldness is so vividly captured in the life of Richard Wurmbrand. In this episode, we will take a journey through his life - what drove him to risk it all for his faith, how he endured over a decade in prison, and why even after he was released his passion to reach others with the Gospel message never wavered. Hosted by Jamie Adams and featuring Catherine MacKenzie, author of the book Richard Wurmbrand - A Voice in the Dark.
Preservation is the act of protecting a resource to promote its welfare from outside threats and intrusions. From the early 20th century to the modern day, preservationists have come in many different molds - sharing similarities and also many differing opinions on how to best preserve the wildernesses of our world. Perhaps the most famous of the 20th century's great preservationists was John Muir. In this episode, we will attempt to get to know the real Muir and seek to better understand how preservation can be something we all seek to uphold in our lives, no matter what resource it is we hold dear. Hosted by Jamie Adams and featuring environmental historian Donald Worster (author of the book A Passion for Nature: The Life of John Muir) and Dennis Williams, professor of history and culture at Southern Nazarene University (author of the book God's Wilds: John Muir's Vision of Nature). *Correction to episode: It is stated that Mt. Whitney is the highest peak in the (North American) continent. Of course, it is the highest in the continental U.S., but not the entire continent as there are many higher peaks in Canada and Alaska.

Plus… Transcript & Links, Episode 58, May 21, 2021 Hello, Ron Robins here. Welcome to podcast episode 58 published on May 21, titled “The Top Renewable Energy Stocks, Funds. Plus…” — and presented by Investing for the Soul. investingforthesoul.com is your site for vital global ethical and sustainable investing news, commentary, information, and resources. Remember that you can find a full transcript, links to content – including stock symbols, quotes, and bonus material – at this episode’s podcast page located at investingforthesoul.com/podcasts. And Google any terms that are unfamiliar to you. ------------------------------------------------------------- 1. The Top Renewable Energy Stocks, Funds. Plus… It seems most of the stock research appearing in the media is focused on renewable energy stocks and funds. It reflects what analysts are looking at. So here are a few top articles covering that theme in the past two weeks. The first one is titled Biden's New Infrastructure Bill Could Mean Big Things for These Renewable Energy Stocks and is found on nasdaq.com. It reviews three alternative energy stocks by three different analysts. I’ll mention the analyst, their recommending stock, and a few brief quotes from them on their stock recommendation. Quote, “1) Howard Smith picks Atlantica Sustainable Infrastructure (NASDAQ: AY) The company calls itself ‘a sustainable infrastructure company with a majority of our business in renewable energy assets…’ (Now) Importantly for investors wanting income, in the first quarter, cash available for distribution grew 7.6% over the prior year period with revenue growing almost 12%. 2) Daniel Foelber likes Equinor (NYSE: EQNR) The company is making big moves away from oil and gas and into renewable energy… it's now drifting toward pairing its offshore oil expertise with offshore wind… Its offshore wind portfolio leads the oil majors and is one of the largest of any operator in the world… 3) Travis Hoium recommends Bloom Energy (NYSE: BE) Bloom Energy makes fuel cells for utility and commercial-scale applications… Building a truly clean electric grid will require more wind and solar, but it'll also require huge amounts of energy storage and on-demand electricity production, both of which Bloom Energy can provide…” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 2. The Top Renewable Energy Stocks, Funds. Plus… Next in the renewable energy theme is this article by Louis Navellier who wrote a piece titled 5 Pick-and-Shovel Solar Stocks for the Green Energy Gold Rush. It’s found on the kiplinger.com site. I’ll mention each stock that Mr. Navellier writes about and follow it with a few select quotes from him. “1) SolarEdge Technologies (SEDG) Makes inverters, a key component of the microgrid that delivers solar energy to where it's needed in homes, schools, businesses, campuses and beyond… Shares of Solar Edge Technologies have been on a tear the last two years, but have declined more recently. 2) Enphase Energy (ENPH) Also manufactures inverter systems. Unlike ‘string converters’ made by SolarEdge, which draw power wholesale from all the panels in an installation, Enphase sells microinverters, which draw energy from individual panels as needed or as conditions allow, and, as a result, can be more efficient. Though microinverters cost more, the market for them may grow faster because they can be more responsive to site-specific conditions… Shares of the solar stock are off from their February highs of over $200, and took another hit after Enphase's first-quarter report… (But) Enphase can weather these kinds of storms for now. 3) Generac Holdings (GNRC) … has grown handsomely selling backup generators to consumers who have become more attuned to and proactive toward power outages… in 2019, (The company has) entered the battery storage business with a pair of acquisitions… Generac has been doing business since 1959, (and) has a global network of 7,000 dealers and … decades of customer data that it can ply with its solar offering. Shares have been highfliers, up more than 250% since April of last year. 4) Daqo New Energy (DQ) Is based in China and produces polysilicon, which is used to make solar panels… Demand for polysilicon is increasing and this is boosting prices… According to Bernreuter Research, in 2021 alone, prices per kilogram for polysilicon have risen from $11 to nearly $19… which goes straight to Daqo's top line… This could make DAQO one of the best solar stocks to have on your radar. 5) CleanSpark (CLSK) Offers a suite of software solutions that provide end-to-end microgrid modeling, communications and energy management… CleanSpark doesn't make money yet, but analysts are forecasting it will report a profit at the end of this quarter… Also noteworthy, CleanSpark is ramping up its participation in the Bitcoin mining business… CleanSpark notes that 95% of the power for its mining operations is carbon free.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 3. The Top Renewable Energy Stocks, Funds. Plus… The third article on renewable energy is titled 4 Renewable Energy Stocks To Consider Buying Right Now. It’s by Josh Dylan and appeared on StockMarket.com. Again, I’ll mention the writer’s picks and follow each one with some key quotes from the writer. Quote: “1) Renewable Energy Group, Inc. (NASDAQ: REGI) Focuses on providing cleaner, lower carbon intensity products, and services. It is a producer of biomass-based diesel in North America… (The company has) announced a proposed offering of $500 million for green projects. The company intends to use the net proceeds to finance or refinance new and/or existing eligible green projects. 2) NextEra Energy Inc. (NYSE: NEE) The company owns Florida Power & Light Company, which is the largest rate-regulated electric utility in the U.S. In particular, (it's) renewable energy business, NextEra Energy Resources, contributed $598 million in adjusted earnings, up from $529 million in the first quarter of last year. On top of that, the company along with OPAL Fuels announced plans to build Minnesota’s first renewable natural gas facility. 3) SunPower Corporation (NASDAQ: SPWR) SunPower Corporation is a provider of distributed generation storage and energy services. The company designs an all-in-one residential and commercial solution for customers… Sunpower Corp stock has risen over 500% over the past year. 4) Enphase Energy, Inc. (NASDAQ: ENPH) (Yes… again) The company is the world’s leading supplier of microinverter-based solar-plus-storage systems. Also, it has an intelligent platform that delivers smart, user-friendly solutions that connect solar generation, storage, and energy management… Last week, Enphase announced an expanded collaboration with Palomar Solar, a leading solar energy installation company.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- 4. The Top Renewable Energy Stocks, Funds. Plus… Getting a lot of hype recently is the Blackrock ETFs. However, Adria Vasil at Corporate Knights has posted a critical piece on the BlackRock iShares MSCI ACWI Low Carbon Target ETF (CRBN). She writes… “This ETF ‘seeks to track the investment results of an index [composed of companies] with a lower carbon exposure than that of the broad market…’ What’s inside: Traditional ethical investors might gasp when they see 15 makers of controversial weapons… (a) handful of for-profit prisons, harmful pesticide-makers and mining firms tied to severe environmental damage in this ETF’s portfolio and: 6 thermal coal-burning companies 11 climate-policy-blocking companies 4 deforestation and palm oil laggards linked to clearcuts in the Amazon rainforest and Southeast Asia… and 6 industrial meat companies, including Tyson Foods, America’s largest beef, pork and poultry processor. BlackRock’s position: BlackRock says the ETF’s MSCI weighted average carbon intensity (tons CO2e/$M sales) is just 64.74, significantly lower than the 178.5 average for benchmark MSCI ACWI Index.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- Worthy Mentions Sometimes there are just too many good articles to cover, so I’m going to start a ‘Worthy Mentions’ segment where the bare bones of an article are given. For the links to these articles just go to this podcast’s page at investingforthesoul.com/podcast and scroll down to this edition. 1) Is titled A Bet 20 Years Ago Made It the Exxon of Green Power and appeared in The New York Times. It’s by Stanley Reed and Raphael Minder. Subtitle, “Iberdrola is a leader in wind and solar power, thanks largely to a bet its C.E.O. made 20 years ago.” 2) Morningstar analyst Alyssa Stankiewicz has posted this article 15 Top Funds Leading the Way on ESG. If you aren’t a Morningstar.com subscriber – you should be! Even the Basic, free plan will allow you to see the full content of this article and much more! 3) Final mention is given to the UK’s FT article titled 2 top FTSE 100 ethical stocks. It’s by Jamie Adams. He is recommending the following, and quoting from his article: “Coca-Cola HBC (CCH.L): This Switzerland-based bottler of the Coca-Cola product… has consistently ranked at the top of the FTSE4GOOD Index series since its inception in 2000. GlaxoSmithKline (GSK): Has proven to be an ESG leader thanks to its work in providing access to medicine… What’s more, this top British firm has promised to have a net-zero environmental impact by 2030.” End quotes. ------------------------------------------------------------- Ending Comment Well, these are my top news stories with their stock and fund tips -- for this podcast: “The Top Renewable Energy Stocks, Funds. Hosted by Jamie Adams with readings from Shackleton's first-hand account South by John Gallagher.

You might think that music has nothing to do with the restaurant business, but that is far from the truth! In fact, the intro and outro music for the podcast was written and played by Leonoardo’s 11 year old son, Alexandar, and Jamie Adams slaying it on the guitar solo. Special thanks to Greg Hannonn who helped produce it. Music in the restaurant business is important because it creates the ambience of the restaurant and experience. If the guests are singing along, then they know they are doing their job right with picking the right music to fit the mood of the restaurant. Music and cooking are a lot alike because you can’t cut corners and you have to practice a lot to perfect the art. In this episode, enjoy Leo and Jamie talking about Jamie’s music background, how they incorporate music into their restaurants, and their appreciation for music! Send them a video of you playing! Our guest on this latest episode of Soundtracking is a world-famous frontman with a genuine passion for score. SImon Neil is a guitarist and lead vocalist for Scottish rockers Biffy Clyro - whose most recent album A Celebration Of Endings went straight to the top of the UK album charts. But as you're about to hear, he really does know his stuff when it comes to movie music too. Man, do we cover a lot of ground! He also scored Jamie Adams' wee gem of a film, Balance, Not Symmetry, and hopes to do more scoring in the future.
Another great conversation that covered a lot of ground. From marketing, to stories about meeting rock stars, the global COVID-19 pandemic and some discussion on how to care for ourselves. Jamie Adams is not only likable based on his humor, intellect and charm. He's a thoughtful leader who cares deeply for those he loves. This includes a strong connection to family, friends and the businesses he connects with. He's currently the Chief Revenue Officer at Scorpion Digital Marketing. He's been a trail blazer since day one and he's also someone you can enjoy live music with. Hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did recording it.

Jamie Adams is the Chief Revenue Officer at Scorpion. He has worked in digital marketing for over 12 years and leads Scorpion's sales and business development team to recruit and help businesses grow with innovative, strategic marketing. He works with Scorpion clients across several industries, including home services, and is especially passionate about connecting local businesses with customers. Consumer Journey Media consumption as a whole has increased, especially with mobile devices. In the past, people used to have to use a desktop computer to find an answer to their question or a business's contact information. But now, all the information you are looking for is in your back pocket, so we are consuming content at every moment on phones. Today, when customers are at a point of need, they are able to type in the service or use voice command to search for what they need and discover a high-quality solution quickly. Jamie shares the example of when he needed an HVAC technician ASAP, and immediately searched for one near him on his phone. “I'm thinking about proximity, I'm thinking about what's their schedule like, and I'm thinking about can I find validation quickly that these guys are good at what they do.” How to Take Advantage of Micro-Moments A micro-moment is the exact moment in time when a consumer realizes they have a need for a specific product or service. Jamie sees that businesses who are maximizing these micro-moments are present in their consumers' media channels instead of relying on a memory of seeing a billboard or through word of mouth. These are the businesses who are growing successfully. Jamie highlights that many businesses only focus on this one moment, but in order to maximize your results, you need to focus on several moments leading up to this one. The traditional, broad overview of the marketing funnel illustrates the framework for how your brand can get in front of your consumer early on to maximize the micro-moment: Awareness: making people aware of your business and your brand. Consideration: staying in front of the customer when they are thinking about a product or service. Purchasing: being highly searchable when they are thinking about pulling the trigger and choosing a business to work with in their moment of need. By marketing to these customers and exposing them to your brand and services through various social media platforms prior to this moment of need, you build trust and awareness. You have an opportunity to influence the customer to not just search for a service in their moment of need, but to search for your specific company. Today, this is happening on mobile devices through websites and ads, but also with voice technology, which underlines the importance of having an easy-to-navigate website and clear copy. For home services businesses, identifying these moments before a moment of need is challenging because customers aren't necessarily considering a purchase unless they need it immediately. Jamie says that having a presence on social media is an important tool for building this awareness of your business. It will help change your consumer's moment of need from one of panic to one of certainty. They know who they are going to call to fix their problem. Think Creatively Jamie shares the approach of one of his clients, S & D Plumbing, as a good example of how home services businesses can take advantage of micro-moments by building awareness on social media. Through content that tells their story and showcases the staff that powers their brand and services, they help their audience relate to and trust their brand. For example, they ran a Valentine's Day parody video advertising a free massage to anyone who shared their video. The video featured one of their technicians giving a massage to a co-worker on a workman's table. They weren't directly marketing their plumbing services, but they were making a feel-good, memorable impression on potential customers. “Doing content like that and exposing your brand to people before they need you is going to give you an advantage when that need happens.”

His versatile acting career ranges from high profile television such as Black Mirror, Gunpowder, and Downton Abbey to small independents such as Mine opposite Armie Hammer and 100 Streets opposite Idris Elba.

PODCAST: The crew explores wine beer hybrids, harvesting 130 year-old shipwrecked yeast, beer "only" lent and Marcus King Band. Wine beers ... they're not new, but the interest to create them from American craft brewers is growing. The idea of combining grapes and malt is not that far fetched. We have seen a few ales in the past that have been aged in a wine barrel, with the results being a pleasant surprise. The newest trend called Brut ales are an example, although they do not use grapes but rather an enzyme to achieve the champagne like results. For home brewers, until the BJCP releases its next update of style categories these vinocervisia type of brews (much like Brut IPA) it will fall under Category 19, Experimental Beer. Of course, we do some beer tastings, including Sparkling Swan Ale - Lagunitas, a 6.5% sparkling beer-wine hybrid brewed with a moderate hops, a light malt backbone and wine grapes that's super bubbly like champagne. We also sip on Always the Hard Way from Pig Minds, an 8.7% American Imperial IPA with a traditional piney-citrus hop front and boozy backend...yum yum in a can! We also taste Brent's NEIPA style home brew from 2018, which has surprisingly help it's nice hop character. BEER NEWS: An Ohio man is consuming only beer for Lent That's right, just like the monks used to do it back in the 1600s, Del Hall, director of sales at Fifty West Brewing Company, plans to spend Lent fasting, using beer as his only calorie intake. Del started his first meal replacement with Spare Parts, a chocolate maple and tasted almond stout is 8.1 percent ABV and a week into Lent and he'd lost 15.2 pounds. Yeast from bottles in 1886 shipwreck makes new brew[AP] The most distinguishing feature of Jamie Adams’ new ale, brewed at Saint James Brewery in Long Island, isn’t its hoppy bite but its compelling backstory — brewed from yeast in bottles of beer that went down on a doomed steamship and languished on the ocean floor for 131 years. Adams says his beer grew out of his love of scuba diving. It was brewed with yeast extracted from bottles he and fellow divers salvaged from the SS Oregon, a luxury liner from Liverpool to New York that sank off Fire Island in 1886. ROCK OUT! We finish up listening to sound samples from the Marcus King Band, featuring a whirlwind of Warren Haynes inspired blues rock with a jazz fusion twist. Check out their masterpiece 20 minute set at Paste Studio ... simply amazing music from a 22 year-old guitar phenom ... expect more gold from these cats in the years to come. A hearty SQUEAL to Pig Minds Brewing Co. and Artele & Co. for their awesome support and sponsorship! #drinkitup
This week on Beer Sessions Radio Jimmy is joined by Jamie Adams to discuss an expedition by Saint James Brewery to rescue old beer bottles from an 1886 shipwreck. Jamie is accompanied in the studio by the team of divers he has worked with over the past several years: Captain Patrick Rooney, Captain Andy Favata, and Captain John Bricker. Not only have these divers discovered a number of bottles still perfectly intact, but Saint James Brewery has extracted the yeast from those beers to create new brews. Beer writer, Pete Brown calls in from the U.K. to offer his historical expertise on what beers this team may have discovered. As these guests share stories about how they got involved in this project and pose questions about how to continue their exploration going forward, they enjoy the fruits of their labor – three ales with yeast dating back over 100 years. Chef Jamie Adams with il Giallo Osteria and Bar on Food and Beverage Radio Chef Jamie Adams il Giallo Osteria & Bar The youngest of five children born in Atlanta, Jamie Adams was intrigued by every aspect of Italian culture - from its cars to its language; from its people to its food. His passion for Italian cuisine was fueled by his mother, a native of New Orleans and fabulous cook in her own right. To this day, Jamie's fondest memories are of cooking in the kitchen with his mother, or at relatives' homes and kitchens in New Orleans, where his family visited regularly. While studying music, biology, and English literature at Georgia State University, Adams simultaneously worked for The Mad Italian Restaurant in Atlanta. It was here that he realized his profound appetite for the restaurant business: the desire to immerse himself into Italian cuisine and great hospitality began to smolder. Fanning these flames was the fact that his siblings, who had traveled to Italy, came home with stories of meals they had enjoyed in quaint Italian towns. These stories and his love for Italian cuisine led him to create his own Italian adventure. “In 1985, I found myself in the Mestre train station with a 200 Lire Gettone in my hand, hoping against hope that someone on the other end could speak English,” reflects Adams. “Thus began an almost five year stint that was supposed to only be one. I went on to find and work in many of the places that I had heard so many stories about and I made friendships and connections that forever changed the course of my life,” he recalls. Upon returning to Atlanta, Adams received several offers to cook in the city's top Italian kitchens, but immediately knew that working at Pricci (then Cappriccio), the Italian crown jewel of the Buckhead Life Restaurant Group, was the perfect setting for his talents. Adams impressed owner Pano Karatassos, by making several pasta dishes from scratch just like his time in Italy at several Michelin starred restaurants. He was given the title of Sous Chef and thus began a more than 20 year relationship with Pano and his prestigious restaurant group. In 1993, the company took over Veni Vidi Vici and Adams was named Executive Chef. The restaurant was formerly owned by one of the gran dames of Italian cuisine, Marcela Hazan, coincidentally, one of Adams' most profound culinary influencers. Adams left BLRG for a short while, when he opened the boutique restaurant, ENO in Midtown Atlanta. In addition to an economic downturn, during this time, Adams was as he refers to it, “the lucky recipient of Coronary Artery Bypass Grafts, fondly referred to as “Cabbage-CABG,” also known as a quadruple bypass. After taking some time off to recuperate, as a compliment to the long-time, mutually respectful business relationship between Pano and Adams, the Chef was asked to rejoin the Veni Vidi Vici team. While at Veni Vidi Vici, Adams realized that he and restaurant General Manager, Leonardo Moura, shared a mutual desire to create and run their own Italian restaurant. Adams and Moura shared their dream with Pano Karatassos, and it was decided that Veni Vidi Vici would close, enabling the pair to open their own restaurant. In creating il Giallo Osteria and Bar (meaning both yellow and mystery in Italian), the passion and experience Adams obtained in Italy will fuse together in this Coastal Italian restaurant in the upscale Sandy Springs neighborhood. Adams has been a featured chef at The James Beard House in New York, competed in The Food Network's “Chopped,” selected to participate in a TBS-TV “Super Chef Cook Off”, and was highlighted on “Great Chefs of the South, and “The Best Thing I Ever Ate.” In addition to building a loyal following and maintaining his great health as an avid cyclist, Chef Adams is exceptionally proud of his fundraising efforts for many organizations that are important to him, including Share Our Strength's No Kid Hungry and Moving in the Spirit,
The marriage of food and beer is at the heart of Beer Sessions Radio this week. Jimmy welcomes Hutch Kugeman and Waldy Malouf from the Culinary Institute of America. Hutch is the CIA’s brewmaster and Waldy is the senior director of Food and Beverage Operations. They are currently preparing for the CIA’s annual Beefsteak event, which involves several courses of beef, lamb, seafood, and unlimited beer. Jamie Adams from Saint James Brewery, John Condzella from Condzella’s Farm, and Tony Forder from Ale Street News join in on a discussion about where the beer industry is headed. Local ingredients are a focal point of the conversation. John was one of the first farmers in New York State to grow hops and the local ingredients he provides to beer makers doesn’t stop there. Everyone sips on Saint James Brewery’s Myrtille Ale, made with blueberries grown at Condzella’s. Hutch and Waldy have witnessed the integration of local food into the menus and curriculum at the CIA and agree this movement is here to stay. Beer Sessions Radio is powered by Simplecast.
As promised today's guest is Jamie Adams, the writer/director of the new film Alright Now starring (Cobie Smulders, “How I Met Your Mother, Avengers”) You can listen to her interview here. I wanted to chat with Jamie because he has made a career of shooting feature films fast, cheap and completely improv. As you all know I shot my first two features, This is Meg and On the Corner of Ego and Desire, using the same style and techniques. They're not a ton of film directors shooting features films like this, let alone films with major movie stars in them, so I had to have him on to discuss his process.in this interview Jamie breaks down:- How he was able to cast Cobie Smulders- What his process is when writing the scriptment- How he works with actors- How he covers a scene and much moreHere's a bit about the film:ALRIGHT NOW follows Joanne (Cobie Smulders, “How I Met Your Mother, Avengers”) a rock musician who drunkenly enrolls in college after she breaks up with her boyfriend and her band falls apart. Convinced she will give the youngsters a run for their money, Joanne is shocked to discover that no one knows who she is and they could care less about her rock star past. Completely improvised and Directed by Jamie Adams (Black Mountain Poets), ALRIGHT NOW is a feel-good comedy about love, life and the search for new beginnings.Enjoy my conversation with writer/director Jamie Adams.
Completely improvised and Directed by Jamie Adams (Black Mountain Poets), ALRIGHT NOW is a feel-good comedy about love, life and the search for new beginnings.Enjoy my conversation with actress Cobie Smulders.Alright Now is out Sept 9th on VOD from Gravitas Ventures.
