On the 103rd episode of What is a Good Life? podcast, I am delighted to introduce our guest, Nathan (Nate) Kinch. Nate is a sociotechnology ethicist, organisational designer, and trust researcher. His work centres around the question: how might we best design trustworthy organisations, technologies, and systems that support a healthy and dignified life for all, within planetary boundaries? To do this, he draws on many branches of philosophy, systems science, cognitive sciences, and related disciplines. He is a Fellow of The Royal Society of the Arts, co-lead of the Responsible AI Network (RAIN), and Lead of Ethics in Action. He is also the Ethicist in Residence at CoLabs and guest lectures at several universities. Previously, Nate was an angel and impact investor and the founding CEO of a venture capital-backed startup. In everyday life, he's an urban rewilder, community convener, and ‘inner developer,' bringing regenerative thinking, practice, and culture to his corner of Melbourne. In this wonderful conversation, Nathan shares his exploration of expressing and feeling into the whole of himself. We discuss realisations he made through his psycho-physical inquiries, from suppressing emotions to crumbling worldviews, to the relief and healing of crying, and expressing and experiencing more joy and gratitude in life. For anyone on their own path of self-inquiry, this conversation contains many universal themes that I sense we all experience, which may make you feel more at home on your own path. Shoot us a Text. It's a travel Tuesday as we head to Virginia for the Reynolds Retail Summit and then Florida for the NAMAD Conference. Today we're talking about the buzz our friends at Rohrman Toyota are making with creative marketing campaigns, why car insurance premiums keep going up and check in at Amplify 2024 with Kyle Mountsier and Reynolds CMO Greg Uland.AnnouncementNew Auto Collabs episode - Changing the Culture Through An Employee Stock Ownership Plan with Bethany Sobczak, Corporate HR Director at Fitzgerald Auto MallAutomotive Amplifiers Aug- NAMAD Aug - VeeCon - Vincue Unleashed Sept - ATAE Comms NovShow Notes with links:Bob Rohrman Toyota in Lafayette, Indiana, is shaking up car sales with creative and fun promotions that attract customers and boost employee morale.Zac Kinch, Rohrman Toyota's GM, has created marketing campaigns for customers to engage in fun activities like dunk tanks, mechanical bull rides, and Plinko games for discounts and prizes. These events, like offering a $99 Corolla during Black Friday, lead to significant sales increases, with one event selling 34 vehicles in a day.The engaging atmosphere has created higher employee retention, doubling the average tenure of sales staff from 3.1 years to 6.6 years.Event videos are widely shared on social media, with some videos reaching over a million views“Buying a car shouldn't have to be miserable," says Kinch, emphasizing the positive impact on both staff and customers.Auto insurance rates have risen 15% in the first half of 2024 to average annual premium of $2,329, with predictions indicating a 22% total increase by year-end.Maryland holds the highest average rate at $3,400 annually, while New Hampshire is the lowest at $1,000. States like California, Missouri, and Minnesota could see increases this year exceeding 50%.Repair costs, particularly for ADAS-equipped vehicles, are a major driver, with repairs costing up to 38% more over the past five years. The rising rates are due to a combination of significant underwriting losses, increasing vehicle repair costs, and the growing impact of severe weather events. Additional factors like aging vehicles, legislative changes, higher theft rates, and economic pressures are further driving up premiums."As we experience tornadoes, hail, and flooding in places where they weren't necessarily a major threat before, the increased frequency and severity of these events will need to be considered in pricing," said Betsy Stella, VP of Carrier Management at Insurify.Kyle is already at Reynolds and Reynolds Amplify 2024 and is live with Reynolds CMO Greg Uland.Hosts: Paul J Daly and Kyle MountsierGet the Daily Push Back email at https://www.asotu.com/ JOIN the conversation on LinkedIn at: https://www.linkedin.com/company/asotu/ Read our most recent email at: https://www.asotu.com/media/push-back-email

Episode page with video, transcript, and more Joining us for Episode #478 of the Lean Blog Interviews Podcast is Shaunté Kinch. In 2022, Shaunté founded Empact Global, a consultancy that works with organizations to help them solve really BIG problems. Her more than 20 years spent implementing Six Sigma, LEAN, and design thinking concepts have inspired her to take on “wicked problems” in a “VUCA” (Volatile, Uncertain, Complex, and Ambiguous) world. Originally trained by Shingijustu (pioneers of the Toyota Production System) she has educated over 2800 people in continuous improvement and innovation, led hundreds of workshops, and coached more than 60 leaders. Shaunte holds a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, and a Masters of Engineering, Design, and Manufacturing, both from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA. In today's episode, we discuss what Shaunté learned about Lean in her first aerospace jobs, including time spent working with the famed Shingujitsu consulting group. What did Shaunté learn and discover when she was recruited into her first healthcare organization? We discuss problem-solving in the context of shopfloor improvement, management practices, and big societal problems like inequities and a lack of diversity in some Lean settings. Questions, Notes, and Highlights: How does Lean help us navigate a VUCA world? What we know vs. what we THINK we know? Facts vs. data? How do assumptions get leaders in trouble? Leaders observing leaders? Doing so in a non-blaming way? Helping people go from “we don't have time” to making time? What's your Lean origin story? “Everything was an experiment” – seeds planted by her father, a math & science teacher Northrup Grumman – “Lean Engineering” Boeing – “real training” from Shingujitsu From Aerospace to healthcare? What's different? “I don't think challenge is supported enough in HC” Ideas on how Lean practices need to evolve? Shifting to working independently / your own firm? Fighting the way we've always done it, including in hiring and selecting speakers for events Diversity and representation on conference stages, Lean in general How does it feel to go to a conference and not see a Black woman on the stage? Celebrating Juneteenth The podcast is sponsored by Stiles Associates, now in its 30th year of business. They are the go-to Lean recruiting firm serving the manufacturing, private equity, and healthcare industries. Learn more. This podcast is part of the #LeanCommunicators network.

HEY BUDDY. In my first episode of season 2, I got to speak with my dear friend of nearly 30 years, the amazing Aria Kinch! Listen as we talk about cold weather, adapting to technology, and paragliding. Aria is an absolute rock star and I'm SO glad I got to catch up with her. Also. full disclosure... something very strange happened with the audio on this episode. Something I didn't realize happened until the editing process. At points, it seems like there's a sort of reverse overlap. It sounds kind of funky in some places, but you can still hear everything... and it's a GREAT conversation. Thanks for catching up!
