This episode has come about because our NPA team have been looking at alternatives for SDA investing, doing months-long research on SDA fractional investing specifically, for our SDA investors. At the same time, Larissa from our Melbourne team, brought us the concept of Bali as a fractional investing product too. As a result, we have been diligently working hard in the background for 4-5 months in assessing 'fractional investing' as a strategy - comparing the direct SDA housing investing versus indirect SDA fractional investing. From there, we went off on a tangent over to Bali fractional investing as well, and that is how we have arrived at this spot now, on this show!Ian welcomes back a past speaker of the show, Robert Maxwell, who has now joined our NPA team. Ian and Rob welcome a guest speaker they have been dealing with for many months, Mark Reed, who is permanently based in Bali. The team talks about the merits of fractional investments as a concept, and then in greater detail about Bali as a location to enter as an investment option, using this method of fractional investing. Mark talks in great detail about the tourism and hospitality sector, and the international growth of capital investment into Bali, by way of infrastructure and tourism demand for hotel accommodation.Ian and Rob dive into some really interesting questions with our guest this week. They ask things like:Who's behind this fractional investment optionHow long have they been around? Why Bali? What makes it a good choice in terms of growth and infrastructure, and are there any risks we should know about? What returns to expect, and what the costs will be?They also get into the nitty-gritty of how projects are picked and the strategies behind them. Plus, they explore the differences between Leasehold and Freehold investments. It's a must-listen for anyone curious about these investment options!LEAVE US A GOOGLE REVIEW!--------------------SDA RESEARCH REPORTShttps://ndis.property/reportsSDA MASTERCLASShttps://ndis.property/eventsFOLLOW US ON:LinkedIn InstagramFacebookTwitterwww.robustdesign.com.auwww.highphysicalsupport.com.auwww.improvedliveability.com.auwww.fullyaccessible.com.auFor any podcast related queries or suggestions, please contact our podcast team via podcast@ndis.propertywww.ndispropertyaustralia.com.au

Triggered by a comment from Katta Spiel in an earlier podcast, in this solo episode I explore the tensions between the autonomy and freedom we have to shape our research identities and do meaningful work, and the systemic constraints from funding and promotion opportunities. The tensions particularly arise when research interests don't align well with institutional expectations or funding trends. I explore various ways to navigate these tensions, such as, adjusting research focus to align with strategic priorities, reframing research proposals while keeping the core agenda unchanged, or continuing passion projects outside of formal funded frameworks. I also reflect on potential trade-offs and the importance of maintaining personal connection and motivation in our research work. At the end I suggest some strategies for self-reflection and staying in tune with what 'lights you up' as a researcher. It's a double whammy for our latest episode of the Playable Futures Podcast, with gaming communities at the centre of the discussion. For this episode, presenter Will Freeman chats to Mark Reed, Founder of Heaven Media to reflect on gaming's relationship with marketing and the important role that communities play in shaping its landscape. He then interviews Romain de Waubert de Genlis, Studio Head and Chief Creative Officer at Amplitude Studios who discusses how his platform Games2Gether aims to bring the gaming community into the dev process. Both spokespeople take a long view on the importance of community, but what becomes clear is that factoring community into marketing strategies (amongst other project milestones) early in a campaign can prove pivotal in its success – and in many ways it always has been – but as we look to the future it will be an important key to success.  As Mark Reed says: “For as long as I've been gaming, communities have always been at the heart of gaming and that's still very true today.” Having witnessed significant changes over the course of a lengthy career, Mark reflects on how studios, publishers and developers have had to adapt to put their players and, crucially, engagement with them, first. Reflecting on the '90s, when the majors ignored their player base until launch, Mark suggests that the industry has now begun to accommodate them as early as possible. After all, if publishers don't nurture their audience, they stand a chance of falling at the first hurdle. If communities are key to successful games marketing, what is their future with regards to the creation and making of new and exciting titles?   Romain, meanwhile, is co-founder and Creative Director of Games2Gether, a video game co-creation platform that brings the gaming community together and provides a platform for creators to swap ideas and collaborate on development. This further democratisation of the creative process puts budding developers first, enabling creators to swap ideas in a like-minded environment with no gatekeepers. “What people usually don't like when they try to interact with a team is they will feel that they're not being listened to… We have one million players, so it's hard to tell everyone to listen to everyone at any one time, but it's all about transparency.” And what Romain touches on here is something that is true when applied to gaming communities, dev communities and is a core principle of good games marketing to boot – with clarity, simplicity and openness the sector can maintain new and powerful channels of conversation and use the benefits thereof to build the games industry of the future.  The Playable Futures Podcast accompanies Playable Futures, a collection of insights, interviews and articles from global games leaders sharing their visions of where the industry and medium will go next. A series of ten articles so far have been published on GamesIndustry.biz, with more planned. Playable Futures is a collaborative project brought to you in partnership with GI.biz, UKIE and Diva.

Summary of the article titled An adaptive learning process for developing and applying sustainability indicators with local communities from 2005 by Mark Reed, Evan Fraser, and Andrew J. Dougill, published in the Ecological Economics journal by Science Direct. Since we are investigating the future of cities, I thought it would be interesting to see an investigation into sustainability measurements and indicators from top-down and bottom-up perspectives. This article proposes a process combining best practices of the different paradigms as a holistic approach for measuring progress towards sustainable development. You can find the article through this link. Abstract: Sustainability indicators based on local data provide a practical method to monitor progress towards sustainable development. However, since there are many conflicting frameworks proposed to develop indicators, it is unclear how best to collect these data. The purpose of this paper is to analyse the literature on developing and applying sustainability indicators at local scales to develop a methodological framework that summarises best practice. First, two ideological paradigms are outlined: one that is expert-led and top–down, and one that is community-based and bottom–up. Second, the paper assesses the methodological steps proposed in each paradigm to identify, select and measure indicators. Finally, the paper concludes by proposing a learning process that integrates best practice for stakeholder-led local sustainability assessments. By integrating approaches from different paradigms, the proposed process offers a holistic approach for measuring progress towards sustainable development. It emphasizes the importance of participatory approaches setting the context for sustainability assessment at local scales, but stresses the role of expert-led methods in indicator evaluation and dissemination. Research findings from around the world are used to show how the proposed process can be used to develop quantitative and qualitative indicators that are both scientifically rigorous and objective while remaining easy to collect and interpret for communities. You can find the transcript through this link. What wast the most interesting part for you? What questions did arise for you? Let me know on twitter @WTF4Cities! This is the first of two videos at the Men's issues or Men's rights conference. There was a car show going on during the second day of the conference so these are some of the pictures from that car show. You can almost say it was a men's rights car show. har har. Anyways I'll stop with the cheesy humor. This video is about a man called Mark Reed that was asked to leave the conference after acting inappropriately. He was there on the first and second day of the conference and he was inappropriately touching people in the audience and it seems like he was feeling up people that were somehow involved with the media. People that had cameras, audio recorders, etc. When I got there on the first day of the event he came up to me and handed me his card which I'm going to show everyone here. Maybe someone out there can do some additional digging on this guy and find out what he's all about. Paul Elam went on stage and said that some from the Detroit Metro Times wrote an article about Mark Reeds called: "I Was Molested At the Men's Rights Conference" I'm putting a link to that article in the description below so you can take a look at it yourself. Here are some lines from the article itself. This is what the author Lee DeVito had to say: "It was at this point that I got molested at the Men's Rights conference. An older man came up to me and immediately complimented my hairy arms (a first). He then started telling me all this crazy shit, about how he was from California and he makes movies and he wants to take me to Malibu and loves hairy guys. Regardless of sexual orientation, it was pretty weird. People started filling up the seats around us and I didn't want to make a scene, so I just politely accepted the compliment and tried to deflect. The dude kept petting my arms." That's what Lee DeVito said and Mark Reed also told me to come to California and that he was making movies out there and so I decided to look up the books and the movies that he was working on in California. We interviewed Mark Reed, a member of the team that made this incredible breakthrough, about what an electret is in the first place, how they got one to work on such a small scale, and what this all means for future technologies. Concerning the thumbnail: The image depicts ball made out of 60 carbon atoms, known as a buckyball, with an Gadolinium atom inside of it. It’s the buzzword that has universities around the world more obsessed than political junkies waiting to hear who has won a leadership spill. But unlike the average Australian Prime Minister, the quest for ‘impact’ among academics is likely to be with us for a long time. What exactly does it mean for researchers to ‘make a difference’? What tools can they employ to ensure their work doesn’t live only in obscure academic journals, unread and unused by policymakers? On this week’s podcast, hosts Sharon Bessell and Sara Bice chat to Mark Reed, a Professor of Social Innovation and an expert in research impact. Mark Reed is Professor of Social Innovation at Newcastle University in the UK, specialising in stakeholder participation in agri-food systems. He has published over 150 publications, including handbooks on research impact, and he’s been cited more than 12,000 times. He runs Fast Track Impact, a company that trains researchers to be more productive and achieve real-world impact. He presents the Fast Track Impact podcast series which offers researchers tips and tricks to increase their impact. Sara Bice is a Senior Research Fellow at Crawford School of Public Policy, and leader of the Next Generation Engagement Program based at the school. Sharon Bessell is the Director of the Children’s Policy Centre in Crawford School of Public Policy, ANU College of Asia and the Pacific, The Australian National University. Show notes | The following were referred to in this episode: Fast Track Impact - the podcast for researchers who want to be more productive and achieve real-world impacts from their research. *Policy Forum Pod is available on iTunes, Stitcher, and wherever you get your podcasts. Most giving happens locally as we act on our commitment to our community, work to build a stronger local economy, develop civic pride, and teach the next generation about the importance of giving back. But how we give locally is expanding - we can make gifts, invest in social businesses, serve as community volunteers, mobilize other donors in-person and online, develop new communities and more. We hope you'll join two of our amazing Bold Givers, Bonny Meyer and Mark Reed, for an intimate conversation about what it can mean to be a bold local leader and leverage your giving, investing and leadership to drive social change in your own community. Through the Meyer Family Fund, Bonny supports empowerment programs for underserved teens and vulnerable adults in California's Napa and Anderson Valleys. Recognizing that safe, net-zero energy affordable housing can have a positive impact on the environment, economic and social resilience and health, she is building Thriving Communities urban and suburban ecovillages in Napa. Through the Contact Fund, Mark works at the intersection of philanthropy and investing and uses a "place-based" investing philosophy to concentrate capital in under-served neighborhoods throughout New York City. Hear about these and other experiences they both have to share, and explore possibilities for your own local giving and investing. --- Hosted by: Jason Franklin; Featuring Bold Givers: Bonny Meyer, Mark Reed
