There's frustration about rubbish dumping along the Desert Road detour. State Highway 1 between Tūrangi and Waiōuru closed in mid-January for about two months of roadworks. The detour, which runs through State Highways 41, 47, 4, and 49 has seen a noticeable rise in rubbish. Ruapehu District Councillor David Nottage has been picking up the rubbish himself. He told Andrew Dickens it's more than people throwing a few things out the window. Nottage says it's hard to believe people are carrying that much around while they travel, so they may be taking advantage. LISTEN ABOVE See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Episode 071: Clyde's by Lynn Nottage Host: Douglas Schatz Guest: Lynette Linton Welcome to The Play Podcast where we explore the greatest new and classic plays. Each episode we choose a single play to talk about in depth with our expert guest. We'll discuss the play's origins, its themes, characters, structure and impact. For us the play is the thing. Lynn Nottage's play Clyde's is set in a truck-stop diner on the outskirts of Reading, Pennsylvania. This is no ordinary diner though, because the short-order cooks that make the sandwiches that the diner is famous for are all ex-cons. The eponymous proprietor, Clyde, has not offered these characters a second chance out of the softness of her heart, but they discover some unexpected hope in their communal sufferings and support. Lynn Nottage has won the Pulitzer Prize for drama twice, and as we record this episode the European premiere of Clyde's is on stage at the Donmar Warehouse in London. I am delighted to be joined by the show's director Lynette Linton, who also directed Nottage's last play Sweat at the same theatre in 2018.

Playwright Lynn Nottage says it's in her nature to be optimistic. And if it's true what they say that you can manifest good things by thinking positively, well, it's worked out for her in myriad ways. Nottage is the first and only woman to have won a Pulitzer Prize for Drama twice, and she's one of today's most produced playwrights. Her work, though, explores the experiences of Americans existing in the margins who have little reason to have hope. In this episode, she joins host Kai Wright to reflect on her remarkable career and share how she develops complicated characters that manage to be relatable, resilient and inspire optimism in audiences. Plus, musician David Byrne is known for a darkness to his lyrics. As the former frontman for the band Talking Heads with songs like “Psycho Killer,” “Road To Nowhere,” and “Slippery People,” it's easy to assume Byrne is fresh out of hope in humanity. Instead, he says he's motivated by the beauty of human connection he experiences when he pushes past the anxiety of being a social creature. Byrne and Kai discuss how he channeled that uplifting outlook into his Broadway show “American Utopia,” named for Byrne's 2018 album. Tell us what you think. Instagram and X (Twitter): @noteswithkai. Colin Nottage gives an interview at the latest 3-day Podcast Training in this episode. Colin is the host of The Interesting Health and Safety Podcast, a show that Ash and Kane have referenced multiple times when speaking about podcast niches, monetisation and branding in podcasting. Colin shares how he built his brand and spun off multiple streams of income from his podcast, directly into his business. He started podcasting to engage with people differently as a health and safety consultant. Though his download numbers are small compared to mainstream podcasts, he has a highly engaged, targeted audience. Colin discusses his learnings, personal development, and biggest wins from podcasting over the past few years as well as offers advice on starting a podcast, maintaining quality over quantity, and bringing forward your life goals rather than waiting until retirement! KEY TAKEAWAYS Podcasting allowed Colin to elevate his business from £395 deals to 6-figure contracts by building his personal brand. He spun off a paid community, software business, and grew his consultancy through podcast guest relationships. Colin went from wanting to be the expert to facilitating conversations and learning from guests. He shortened episodes to 8-10 minutes for commutes and kept interviews under 45 minutes. Consistency and not stopping episodes for too long is critical, even though the back catalogue will still get downloads. Colin focused on quality over quantity and actionable content his niche would value. Podcasting built his confidence to chair major health and safety organisations. It provided an opportunity to rethink his training products and approach with existing clients. BEST MOMENTS "Podcasting seemed to be a way to engage with people in a different way." "What it became is a fantastic opportunity for me to learn." "I can actually say to my clients, look, you know, come on, let's jump on, let's do an episode." "Enjoy it. Make sure you start. And then quality of information above quantity." "Bring forward all the visions and things you want to achieve rather than waiting until retirement." "The podcast is allowing us to build the business, to give us the freedom to make those decisions." Lynn Nottage's 2011 satirical play By the Way, Meet Vera Stark stages the life and legacy of the fictional Vera Stark, a Black maid and struggling actress during Hollywood's golden age. Nottage, a two-time Pulitzer prize-winning playwright and screenwriter, was inspired in part by the career of African American actress, singer, and dancer Theresa Harris. A play about Black women's cinematic representation and social erasure, Nottage's fabrication of film history extends beyond the staged plot to also include a digital archive documenting Vera's celebrity and career. In this talk, Samantha N. Sheppard examines how Nottage's play and paratexts produce a speculative fiction and archive about Black women's media histories, staging what she calls a phantom cinema—an amalgam of real and imagined film histories that haunt, trouble, and work with and against cinema histories to creatively illuminate archival gaps in visual culture and the public imagination. Samantha N. Sheppard is an associate professor of cinema and media studies in the Department of Performing and Media Arts at Cornell University. She is the author of Sporting Blackness: Race, Embodiment, and Critical Muscle Memory on Screen (University of California Press, 2020) and co-editor of From Madea to Media Mogul: Theorizing Tyler Perry (University Press of Mississippi, 2016) and Sporting Realities: Critical Readings on the Sports Documentary (University of Nebraska Press, 2020). The more you speak to people the more you learn! A podcast can present unique opportunities, for guests, listeners and hosts alike! In this episode, Kane speaks to consultant, chair, tutor and host of The Interesting Health and Safety Podcast Colin Nottage. They discuss the reasons behind the success of Colin's podcast, how podcasting can produce a wealth of other opportunities as well as the impact it has had on Colin's life, business and the H&S industry as a whole. KEY TAKEAWAYS Colin started listening to podcasts himself, including Rob Moore's The Disruptive Entrepreneur. He discovered that there was very few in the health and safety podcasting space and after attending one of the first Progressive Podcast Courses he got started. When Colin first started his podcast, his aim was to give back to the audience that had supported him. He knew he has quite a small niche but started to think about how he could scale and this is when he began interviewing guests. By interviewing great guests, Colin started learning more about the health and safety space which is not something he expected. As well as giving him new knowledge, it kept his passion and inspiration alive and he was able to deliver both of these things to his audience and his clients. The content Colin is putting out is providing a real benefit across his industry, excerpts from his episodes have been used in training and he has won awards too. One of the things Colin has learnt from doing his podcast, is that changing the culture of a business and industry has a lot more scope to impact things than talking to individual people. The quality of guests you speak to improves the more people you speak to. Colin also finds this is the case in his business. You might start small but there is an effect that compounds over time the more people you speak to and interview. So many people suffer from imposter syndrome and don't believe they or their niche has enough value for podcasting but Colin and The Interesting Health and Safety Podcast shows how wrong this impression is. Consistency to podcasting is very important. Colin always advises to keep a ‘bank' of reserved content for any unforeseen circumstances to allow his podcast to always publish. Collaboration is better than competition. Colin has demonstrated this by collaborating with fellow H&S Podcaster James MacPherson. They have worked together and built the first H&S community and educational tool for the industry, Project Mollitiam: https://www.projectmollitiam.com/meet-the-team Colin has big plans for the future! Including writing a book, more monetisation of the podcast, going on a coaching course and building his website.   BEST MOMENTS “That was the thing that really changed it for me, when I started interviewing people” “I've got a real loyal following, that's a nice thing” “There's an awful lot of things that can be done remotely” “When I interview people, I'm now asking better questions” “The biggest art of interviewing is listening” “The amount of times I wish I'd never stopped the record button” VALUABLE RESOURCES The Interesting Health & Safety Podcast - https://podcasts.apple.com/vn/podcast/the-interesting-health-safety-podcast/id1467771449        https://www.projectmollitiam.com/meet-the-team Website Instagram ABOUT THE GUEST Colin Nottage Colin is passionate about and through his consultancy Influential Management Group (IMG) is able to spread into industry. Colin works at a strategic level with company owners and board members. He helps business leaders establish and achieve their health and safety ambitions. He has developed a number of leading competency improvement programmes that are delivered across industry and his strengths are his ability to take a practical approach to problem-solving and being able to liaise at all levels within an organisation. Colin also runs a company that vets contractors online and a network that develops and support H&S consultancies to become better businesses. After spending 25 years running several large health and safety departments, he has become a renowned expert in the field. Today, he is a podcaster, public speaker, and trainer.   Colin speaks about his unique approach, one which has helped him to stand out in his industry and secure excellent results. Later in the podcast, Colin talks candidly about his personal development journey.   KEY TAKEAWAYS   If you are passionate about what you do, you will succeed. Don´t be afraid to walk away to do something positive that you believe in. Getting health and safety wrong changes lives for the worse. Everyone in an organisation needs to understand the business's health and safety goals. Firms that automatically blame the person who was injured stop learning and alienate their workforces. Health and safety failures have a hugely negative impact on brand reputation. Understanding how tasks are actually carried out is vital for putting in place robust and safe processes. Understanding your why is critical. Make positive decisions about your life and follow through. Identify things that you should be doing every single day to enable you to meet your goal and don´t miss a day of doing them. If something is important to you, you will find time to do it. Treat yourself as your most important customer. Make looking after your health a priority. Keep on reflecting, keep on challenging.     BEST MOMENTS ‘In life, you´ve got choices. You can either get frustrated and go with the flow or do something positive. ´ ‘You´ve got these non-negotiable things that you´ve got to do every single day.’ ‘If you can´t do anything about it, don´t worry.’   This is the perfect time to get focused on what YOU want to really achieve in your business, career, and life. It’s never too late to be BRAVE and BOLD and unlock your inner BRILLIANCE. One of the questions I get asked frequently by managers is 'how do I put a risk assessment in place to cover the menopause?'. I'm not a H&S expert, but I know a man who is.   I'm joined today by H&S expert and podcaster Colin Nottage who hosts the award winning Interesting Health & Safety Podcast, and is the owner of IMG, a health and safety training and consultancy firm based in the East Midlands. Colin is also the co-founder of a Health and Safety 'mastermind' group called 'Project Mollitiam' whose objective is to empower occupational health, safety, wellbeing and risk professionals to unleash their true potential and create better workplaces. Today we have the honor to have with us the unique and amazing David Nottage. We truly recommend to watch this episode on our you tube channel, because this amazing man is for sure a stand up comedian, who had us three laughing throughout the whole episode. David is an Australian born New Zealander, who has come a long way in the past twenty plus years from someone who was too scared to speak in front of a group of four people without a massive anxiety attack, to being a dynamic presenter who eclipsed over 20,000 Toastmasters to win the ultimate pinnacle in public speaking, the World Championship for Toastmasters International. David has been actively involved with presentation skills for over 28 years and his ambition was to use his knowledge and skills to help people to be more confident in their Business Presentations and Communication Skills. David talk to us about the basic skills we need to be able to own who we are and what we want to say on stage. One of the most important points he makes is that people tend to try to memorize a speech. He believes that if a person goes to a public presentation to tell a story, the whole brain is not anymore thinking but imagining, putting the person in a different place from the start and opening a door to a deeper connection with the people listening. David founded Torque Business celebrating over 20 years of helping people with their presentations. In this episode, Randy and Tyler take a look at the 1921 winner of the Pulitzer Prize for Drama, Miss Lulu Bett by Zona Gale -- who is also the first woman to receive the Pulitzer Prize for Drama.Note: We apologize -- Tyler's mic had some minor buzzing issues in this episode as well as the last. He's got a brand new mic now, so the next episode will be better!Synopsis from theatremania.com:  Miss Lulu Bett, a 28-year-old spinster in a small Wyoming town, lives more or less as a servant in the home of her spoiled sister, Ina, and Ina's pompous husband Dwight Deacon, a dentist who doubles as the local justice of the peace. Also living under the roof are the sisters' mother and the Deacon daughters--Diana, having a mildly rebellious (i.e. normal) adolescence, and Monona, a prepubescent given to tantrums featuring especially ear-piercing squeals. Accepting of her lowly station and adept at fulfilling its demands, Miss Lulu Bett--as she's repeatedly addressed--may long to be elsewhere, but joins in the family pact to do nothing about it.Until, that is, Dwight Deacon's adventurer brother Ninian drops in for a rare visit, spots Miss Lulu Bett's virtues, sees through her veiled longing and, in a playful moment one summer evening, proposes to her. There's a hitch, though--and "hitch" is definitely intended as a pun in this case: Because Ninian and Lulu exchanged their mock vows in front of Justice of the Peace Deacon, their union could be viewed as official. And, as it happens, the impulsive pair choose to see it that way, packing their honeymoon bags immediately.Hard to credit, no? But Lulu and, more importantly, her appearance-consumed family, do credit the marriage knot. So when Lulu returns from her trip with the news that Ninian already had a wife, the Deacons prevail on her to shut up about it. Indeed, they suggest that Ninian's revelation may not even be true; it may merely be his pretext for dumping Lulu. That's when Lulu decides she has to be open to neighbors about her predicament. Furthermore, she wants to establish the truth of Ninian's statement--she needs to know she hasn't been forsaken. When she gets reassuring news in the form of an old wedding announcement, she throws the Deacons' hypocrisy in their faces and strikes out on her own.******* IN OUR NEXT EPISODE *******Join us as we discuss the play “Sweat” by Lynn Nottage, which won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama in 2017.  Here's a synopsis for "Sweat" from StageAgent.com: It’s the year 2000 in Reading, Pennsylvania and a group of friends go to work at the steel mill and then decompress at the bar like they’ve been doing for over 20 years. But, unbeknownst to them, their lives are about to be uprooted. Their steel mill, Olstead’s, is making some changes and the blood, sweat and tears, not to mention the generations of loyalty these workers have shown, don’t seem to amount to much. These middle class, unionized, steelworkers have made plans to save money, go on vacations and then retire with a nice, healthy pension, but when rumors start flying that the company is considering layoffs, and flyers are hung to recruit non-union Latino workers for less money, the war between community and capitalism begins, and tensions start destroying not only jobs, but also relationships. This poignant play takes a look at the de-industrial revolution through the lens of a history play, but also delves into the issues of today: the economy, immigration, race-relations in America, and politics. Lynn Nottage’s Sweat gives us characters filled with the good and the bad and asks us to reflect on our own views and the views of others. Nottage never tells us who’s right or who’s wrong, but always shows us who’s human.Note: This episode was recorded in 2021 in the middle of the COVID-19 ("Coronavirus") pandemic.DeScriptedFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/DeScriptedPodTwitter: @DeScriptedPod - www.twitter.com/DeScriptedPodInstagram: @DeScriptedPod - www.instagram.com/DeScriptedPod

He also shares great advice on why doing something of value well and building trust in the business relationships you have will bring customers and clients who will want to stay with you year after year.   KEY TAKEAWAYS If you do something that is of value to others then there is always going to someone who wants to you. Going out and building relationships with people who are ultimately going to promote you is vital. Good health and safety are about good communication and management. People need to fully understand the risks involved with the job they are doing You can't eliminate risk you have to work alongside it. It's about creating an environment where people feel they are listened to around health and safety. People need to be confident about being able to speak out. The people who are doing the job are the ones who best understand the risks and good management communicate well and have a working relationship based on trust. Sometimes people make mistakes and it's how the business reacts when this happens As a business, you need to be able to talk about risk. People want solutions to their problems and sometimes we are the solution and sometimes we are able to facilitate connecting people with each other.   BEST MOMENTS ‘The focus is about building the relationship' ‘I'm now seen as an influencer in health and safety' ‘Don't stop investing in yourself'   VALUABLE RESOURCES Business, Wealth and Mindset podcast series     The Interesting Health and Safety Podcast    ABOUT THE GUEST Colin Nottage   ‘Making health and safety as important as everything else we do.'   This is the belief that Colin is passionate about and through his consultancy Influential Management Group (IMG) is able to spread into industry. Today, we go behind the scenes of the the latest offering from Baltimore's Everyman Theatre: Sweat by playwright Lynn Nottage. The play follows working-class individuals in Reading, Pennsylvania, as they struggle with layoffs, de-industrialization and economic inequality. Nottage spent over two years conducting field research and interviews in Reading in order to ground herself in the community and learn more about the residents' lives before she wrote the play. When Nottage was awarded the 2017 Pulitzer Prize in Drama for Sweat, the Pulitzer jury called it “a nuanced yet powerful drama that reminds audiences of the stacked deck still facing workers searching for the American dream.” Nottage’s gritty tale has been described by The New Yorker’s Michael Schulman as ----the first theatrical landmark of the Trump era…a tough yet empathetic portrait of the America that came undone.---- Vincent Lancisi is the founding artistic director of Everyman Theatre, and the director of its new production of Sweat. Dawn Ursula, a resident company actor, plays Cynthia, one of the lead roles in the drama. They join Tom in Studio A. Sweat opens on Friday at Everyman Theatre and runs through Nov. 25. You can buy tickets online here. Our theatre critic, J. Wynn Rousuck, will have her review of Sweat on Midday next Thursday, Nov. 1.

#119 There are affiliate links in this post. In this episode I discuss weird(but true) stories.   I review 'The Girl with All the Gifts' movie(there are spoilers).   My takeaways from Joe Pulizzi's book 'Content Inc.'   I have a new DJ mixtape with songs from Calvin Harris, Action Bronson, N.E.R.D and more.   Finally I discuss 'burning the ships' and what does that mean. Weird Stories Being Alone can be Healthy http://bit.ly/2hQjHd6   Scary Angelina Jolie Fan http://bit.ly/2Am25hp  Illinois Law treats Pets as Children http://bit.ly/2C4Tj8u   Child's Doll calls Mom 'B*tch' http://bit.ly/2Ch9Poh  This is the first weird story segment of 2018. And I enjoy putting these weird stories together because, as I always say with these particular tales, real life is always stranger than any fiction that you can read. And the first weird story, curious story here, is being alone can be healthy. Now, this is dated the 22nd of November, 2017, and this is on Studyfinds.org. I will leave all the links to all these stories in the show notes for this episode, or in the description for this video below. Now the headline being, "Study: Being alone can be good for your mental health." It sparks creativity, read you a couple of the lines here. "When it comes to seeking solitude, many people often blame mental health issues as an underlying cause, but a new study finds that being alone has its benefits too, particularly when it comes to people looking for a surge of creativity. Researchers at the University of Buffalo interviewed 295 privacy-valuing individuals who reported a variety of reasons for their tendency to spend a lot of time alone, ranging from feeling fear or anxiety around others to preferring to use the spare time working on a craft. Although research has traditionally suggested that excessive time alone can be unhealthy, some seclusive pursuits, such as trying to connect to nature to get a better sense of self can be constructive, the researchers found." Now, there's a couple of quotes from the researchers here. "We have to understand why someone is withdrawing to understand the associated risks and benefits," says Julie Bowker, the study's lead author, in a university release. "When people think about the costs associated with social withdrawal, often they adopt a developmental perspective," she continues. "During childhood and adolescence, the idea is that if you're removing yourself too much from your peers, then you're missing out on positive interactions like receiving social support, developing social skills and other benefits of interacting with our peers. Bowker believes that the presumed downsides of being alone and withdrawing have lent such a preference a hard-to-erase stigma. More recent research, including this latest study, has begun to recognize the potential benefits of alone time, provided it's an intentional choice prompted by positive emotions." I spend a lot of time alone myself, regarding life, if it's not at work, it's home, or just going about doing my business. I do meet up with friends for events at times, but that's not always, it's not a constant. But I am grateful, I'll be honest, that I actually, this is one of the benefits of having a job, of going to a place where there are other people, working there, I've given a lot of thought, and I would still probably like to go ahead and explore working from home for a period, but not forever. I just feel like, and I know what'll probably happen, is that I will be spending a lot of time by myself, so that is a benefit of actually having a job that you get to go ahead and talk to people. Now, if you don't like the people that you work with, then it's maybe time to get another job, you know what I'm saying? Now the next story is scary Angelina Jolie fan. If you've seen the cover art for this video or this podcast, you'll see a picture of this young woman who has gone ahead and has transformed her face, has transformed herself, to look like Angelina Jolie. This is crazy stuff. Now, this is on the Sun.co.uk. This is an older story. This is also from November the 30th, 2017. An Iranian woman has gone viral after claiming she's had 50 surgeries in a bid to look like her idol Angelina Jolie. And if you're watching the video version of this, I am gonna be posting pictures so you can see what this young woman looks like. It's a little scary; I'll be honest. The 19-year-old from Toronto underwent 50 surgeries in the space of just a few months, according to the Belgian website SudInfo. This hasn't been officially confirmed, however, so it's possible her unique looks are the result of careful makeup or even prosthetics. Very interesting. She also reportedly went on a diet to maintain her 40-kilogram weight, which, provided she is over 4.8 feet, will classify her as dangerously underweight. Sahar has amassed more than 308,000 followers on Instagram, although many have left unflattering comments on her pictures. One person just posted "Zombie" on a recent shot, while another said "Her doc make me look like an eight-month-old corpse. Doc says no more." Now moving to the next weird story here, a new Illinois law treats pets more like children in custody cases. This is from the Chicago Tribune. This is dated at 12/25, Christmas time, of 2017. "Judges in divorce cases consider the well-being of pets in allocating sole or joint ownership under an Illinois law that takes effect January the first. 'It sort of starts treating your animal more like children instead of property,' said Illinois state senator Linda Holmes, an animal lover who sponsored the legislation. If you're going before a judge, they're allowed to take the best interest of the animal into consideration. The law, similar to the one in Alaska, applies only to pets that are marital assets, not service animals. Pets are another issue to hash out in a divorce, in addition to money, children, and possessions. For years, pets have been treated no different from other pieces of property to be divided between a divorcing couple. 'Most couples can agree on pets outside of court,' said Jeffrey Knipmeyer, a partner at Nottage and Ward, a family law practice in Chicago. In his 21 years of experience, Knipmeyer has tried the issue in court only a few times. According to a recent study of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers, about 30% of attorneys have seen a decrease over the past three years in pet custody cases. 'But when a pet custody case does reach court, the state law could be helpful in giving judges guidance on how to decide,' said Madeline Marzano-Lesnevich, president of the Academy." I think there was a story one time of somebody marrying a horse, or something like that. This is craziness. They're pets, people, come on! Now, the last story here is a devil doll. "Mom fumes at Toys 'R' Us after buying daughter a Christmas doll which called her a b-i-t-c-h," a bitch. Let's check out this story here, and this is from Christmas time a couple of months ago. This is, once again, on the Sun.co.uk, dated exactly the 28th of December. Read you a couple of the lines here from the article. "A shocked mom was forced to take her daughter's favorite Christmas present away from her after it appeared to repeat explicit insults. Siobhan Fox, 30, filmed the My Little Baby Born Walks Doll, which she believes sounds like it is saying 'you bitch, you bitch' rather than the 'mama' and 'papa' she and husband Daniel had expected." And once again, I'm going to show you the video and show you pictures of the My Little Born Walks Doll. "The mom told the Sun Online: 'My daughter is two-and-a-half-years-old. She wanted it because her friend has one. It was on top of her list. My husband got it out for her and put the batteries in. I was not in the room. My daughter had it from my husband, and it just caught his ear. It meant to say 'mama, dada.' It's not. He called me in and said, 'Look, what do you think to this?' I got it straight away.' Siobhan and husband Daniel, 30, had to remove the doll from the tot because little Darcey repeats everything she hears. The disappointed mom added, 'That was what she really wanted, and I felt so awful taking it off her, but I could not let her go out in public with that doll saying that.' The doll, made by Zapf Creation, speaks when her rattle is shaken near her and had been bought from a Toys 'R' Us in Tamworth." Scrolling down here just to the bottom of the article, I want to see if this company said anything, the company who created the doll. And this is another quote from the article. "A spokesperson for Zapf Creations said, 'At Zapf Creation we take all feedback very seriously. Our Baby Born products are created to be a fun introduction to imaginative parent-child play. The My Little Baby Born Walks Doll includes baby babble sounds that are in no way meant to represent language or cause any offense to users.'" Very interesting. So folks, those are the four stories for this particular episode. Any thoughts, comments, please do so below, or I will leave a link on the show notes where you can go ahead and start a conversation on the blog. I want to hear what you have to say. This is the Improve and Have Fun Podcast, and these are weird stories.   Movie Review I've watched many zombie movies. George Romero's Dawn of The Dead began my infatuation with the genre. I've seen zombie shows, read zombie comics, have played zombie video games, have owned zombie toys. The Girl with all the Gifts presents a different spin I hadn't seen before. This movie seems like an evolution from the Walking Dead concept. There, everyone is already infected. When they die, they will return as the undead bitten or not. This film asks what if children were born in this setting? How would it affect them? Would the world be any different? As the film begins, the children are strapped down while guards have guns pointed at them. There's a scene when a guard dangles his arm in front of one of the bounded children. The child begins to ravenously snap at the guard. Another concept the movie presents is that of spores which seem to grow out of dead zombies. This spore, under the right reaction, blooms, distributes its pollen. Becoming airborne causing even more havoc. Interesting. The main protagonist is the main antagonist as well. She is child actress Sennia Nanua who I haven't seen before. She was very charming on one end and dangerous on the other. The movie ends with the logical evolution of these zombie kids. I found this movie on Collider media's website. They frequently have articles listing the best videos on Amazon Prime or Netflix. This was a worthwhile watch. See the movie here. http://amzn.to/2G3jw9m  Book Takeaways Content Inc. is a book I recommend to anyone who's starting a podcast, blog, youtube channel. Especially if you want to nail down your unique vision and sell something down the road. I wish I read this book before starting my podcast. It has given me ideas on how to monetize my material. I found Mr. Pulizzi's writing engaging and accessible. While reading this, I even sought out some of his online presentations. Good stuff. Here are five takeaways/quotes from Joe Pulizzi's 'Content Inc.' 1 - 'That's because the content is what people want online, and marketing and advertising are what people easily avoid. I knew how to create the former, and that's how I attracted and held the attention that led to revenue, profits, and success.' pg xii-foreword 2 - 'The key here is that you don't have to be the New York Times or the leading trade magazine in your industry to get people to engage with your content. Readers are open to receiving and engaging in any content that will help them live better lives, get better jobs, or solve a particular task. The point: You have as much opportunity to deliver amazingly helpful content as anyone.' pg 18 3 - 'More and more, I find that the best Content Inc. programs revolve around aspirations, not needs. I've been guilty of telling marketers to 'focus on customer pain points' since, well, forever. Focusing on pain points just gets you to the front door. To get to the heart of your customers' needs, you have to focus on what they want to be and help them get where they want to go.' pg 68 4 - 'Most businesses simply don't think about repurposing ahead of time. They think, 'I need a blog post or a white paper.' They don't think in terms of strategy Robert discusses above-of how one story idea can be told in dozens of different ways depending on the content needs of the organization' pg 132 5 - 'For all for of my books, including this one, a lot of material, ideas, and content originated from existing blog posts. If you have six months of blogs, you might already have half a book. Now writing a book is not an easy endeavor, but you may have a lot of the raw content already at your disposal to develop a book.' pg 205 With that said, here are a few ways I've thought of monetizing my content: a. Coaching/consulting others who are interested in publishing their content in my style. Or putting a course together explaining the same. b. Being a DJ for hire. Soliciting offers from anyone who enjoys my mixtapes and would like me to play for their event. c. Make an ebook and/or audiobook from combined blog posts. You can see here, the nuggets of knowledge this book has in producing and repurposing your content. In finding your particular niche, where you're knowledgeable and can expand for hours. By purchasing this book through my Amazon link here, it supports both the author and myself. Thanks! Get the book here http://amzn.to/2oRhmlY  DJ Mixtape 1. 'No Lie' Sean Paul, Dua Lipa 2. 'Bless Your Heart' DENM 3. 'Nuh Ready' Calvin Harris, PARTYNEXTDOOR 4. 'Bonzai' Action Bronson 5. 'Bloody Water' Ab Soul, James Blake Black, Anderson Paak 6. 'Dead Man' Joshua Luke Smith 7. 'Stuck With Me' The Neighbourhood 8. 'Lightning Fire Magic' N.E.R.D. 9. '#Natural' Paty Cantu, Juhn 10. 'Rope' Chi Ching Ching, Hanging 'Burning the Ships' In a recent episode of the MWF Motivation podcast, Rob Dial discussed 'burning the ships.' What does he mean by this? Do not have a plan B, only work on plan A. 'Success or death' is a phrase that comes to mind. He gives the example of Ed Sheeran who quit high school, moved to London, to chase his dream of music. How Mr. Sheeran suffered, scratched, clawed, I'm sure went hungry at times. He never took his eyes off the prize. This particular morning, as I listened to this lesson, it spoke to me. I thought; I can produce a better podcast if I just give it all my attention. Not on book writing, or creating a Redbubble store. Not teaching dancehall classes. That's what I love about this type of media. It's a ball of clay I can mold any which way. It doesn't have to be only audio. It can be video. A time lapsed drawing, a video of myself dancing, a talking head video. Anything. I write scripts, but I can hire other writers, narrators to read what is written. I can record party videos, event videos, interview people. I've done all of these things on here already. I'd come to this decision before, but I heard elsewhere that I should diversify my income. That's why I started taking up all these other mini-ventures. No more. My job and eBay will support me. My focus, time and energy will be the podcast. This feels good. A half dozen actors run through a scene in one of the Oregon Shakespeare Festival's rehearsal rooms. The setting is a bar in Reading, Pennsylvania, after the financial crises. A group of steelworkers are talking about the factory that locked them out.“This is the first time I've been out of my apartment in a week,” reads actor Terri McMahon. “Do you know what it's like to get up and have no place to go? I am a worker. I've worked since I could count money. That's me!”And writing plays about work, and how our work defines who we are, is very much in tune with Lynn Nottage, who has won just about every honor a playwright can win: Pulitzer, Macarthur, Guggenheim awards. There's the seamstress in her best known work, “Intimate Apparel,” who expresses herself through fabric. There's the high-powered African American publicist in “Fabulation,” who loses her money and must return to her working-class roots. And there are the Congolese women in Nottage's Pulitzer-winning play, “Ruined,” who have survived horrendous war crimes, only to have to make their living in a brothel. And “Sweat,” which opens on August 2 and runs through October 31, explores America's de-industrialization, asking what happens when the jobs we measure ourselves and our community by disappear. “With this play, I think Lynn is following in the footsteps of Arthur Miller's ‘The Death of a Salesman' or (Clifford) Odet's ‘Paradise Lost,'” says the play's director, Kate Whoriskey, who has worked with Nottage on several plays over the past 15 years. “She's really exploring the new economic paradigm and how it affects ourselves as individuals and the community.”
