We've been making some big decisions this week. Juggling so many things, it's been so important to step back and consider the best way to move forward. Often times it's so easy to get wrapped up in the chaos, and not realize that fatigue and burnout has taken over. As parents and professionals we can spread ourselves too thin, and not realize we're giving 5% of ourselves to 100 things instead of focusing on doing a few things amazingly well. We think it's important for everyone to read those signs, and take a break when self care and time to refocus is needed. Rearranging thoughts, and taking time consider next steps is a much needed step. Sammy Previte is a Registered Dietitian, Certified Intuitive Eating Counselor, Certified Personal Trainer, owner of Find Food Freedom, co-host of What The Actual Fork Podcast and host of the Find Food Freedom Podcast! On today's episode we're diving into how the “New Year, New Me” feeds the binge-restrict cycle, the comparison trap, and prevents you...
When you're really present in the moment, whether it's a holiday or not, your thoughts don't get consumed with food even though there's a lot around. Whether there's cake, pizza, turkey, or whatever. To you, food is just food, and it isn't connected to feelings of guilt, shame and regret. That's what you call food freedom. In today's episode of Full and Thriving: An Eating Disorder Recovery Podcast, Sammy Previte RD, LDN, CPT talks about what intuitive eating is about, how you can fight diet culture during the holidays, what you need to keep in mind regarding people who love to make comments about other people's body and diet, and the tips that can help you react better to unsolicited comments about your eating habit. How do you really respond to unsolicited comments about your body? In different places, restrictions are now being loosened. Because of this, some activities are becoming more regular compared to during the lockdown. So what does that mean? Having to show up again. And if we're to really admit — that can definitely make us conscious. In this situation, role-playing and awareness can help. First, role-play the situations wherein people may make comments about your body. By doing so, you put yourself in a scene where you will have to respond. Now, how would you want to answer? Next, be aware that you can also react without being emotional. If that's unlikely, walking away can be an option. Whatever is the case, it helps to remember that whatever someone says about your body has everything to do with their relationship with theirs and nothing to do with yours. Welcome RD Sammy Previte to the podcast. Sammy is a non-diet dietitian and owner of Find Food Freedom and co-host of What The Actual Fork Podcast! We talk about intuitive eating. misconceptions about intuitive eating, thin privilege and so much more. “I have gone through stages in my life where I felt like food controlled me. I had tried every diet and NOTHING worked. I thought I was “being good” Monday through Friday by eating less and working out more. I would give myself a “get out of jail free” card on the weekends by indulging in foods I would restrict during the week. I would cut out specific food groups (cough cough…carbs) thinking that if I just ate less of something then the scale would go down and all my problems would go away…until Monday came again. It was not until I started looking at food as a fuel source and learning how to nourish my body that I was able to feel comfortable in my own skin, improve digestion, and live a life of food freedom.”Sammy graduated from Penn State University with a B.S. in Nutritional Sciences and a minor in Kinesiology.
