The conclusion of this interview will be next Sunday!Jenn Benjamins is a retired sergeant from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department with nearly 22 years of real-world experience in patrol, case investigations, and covert/undercover operations. She began her career in patrol before moving into Community Oriented Policing, serving in one of the newest area commands in the oldest, most historic parts of Las Vegas. Bobby starts the show in a cheerful mood because his team advanced in the NFL playoffs and Jay's did not. Jay's weekend was a failure not only because his team lost, but he encountered a protest in Tacoma Washington and failed to capture any of it on video. Bob tried to coach him to be an influencer and join the protest for Asian massage parlor workers. Jay tried to join in but ultimately cowered in the corner because he didn't want to make a mockery of the event. Bobby and Jay swap massage stories from their younger years. *To hear the full show to go www.siriusxm.com/bonfire to learn more! Prostitution remains heavily stigmatized and legally complex globally. Those in favor of paying for sex and support decriminalization argue that it's a profession that deserves as much respect as any other. Those against it, and who support the Nordic Model, argue that prostitution leads to inequities between sex buyers and workers, exploitation, and coercion, and can open the door to human trafficking. Now we debate: Is It OK to Pay for Sex? Ian Trowell in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.intellectbooks.com/an-endless-discontent https://www.amazon.co.uk/Throbbing-Gristle-Endless-Discontent-Global In 1976 the British band Throbbing Gristle emerged from the radical arts collective COUM Transmissions through core members Genesis P-Orridge and Cosey Fanni Tutti, joined by Hipgnosis photographer Peter Christopherson and electronics specialist Chris Carter. Though having performed previously in more low-key arts environments, their major launch coincided with the COUM retrospective exhibition Prostitution at London's ICA gallery, showcasing and contextualising an array of challenging objects from COUM's various actions in performance art and pornography. In a deliberately curated strategy inviting press, civic and arts dignitaries, extravagant followers of the nascent punk scene and music journalists, the band created an instant controversy and media panic that tapped into the restrictive climate and encroaching conservatism of late 1970s Britain. Any opportunities that were being explored by a formative punk ethos and movement around sex, censorship and transgression were amplified and exposed by Throbbing Gristle and Prostitution. An outraged Member of Parliament Nicholas Fairbairn took the bait and called the ensemble the ‘wreckers of civilisation', providing the suitable newspaper headline that would be followed a month later by ‘the filth and the fury' as the Sex Pistols uttered strong profanities on live television.

In this episode, we examine what actually counts as a victimless crime and why the term is so often misused, using examples ranging from seatbelt and helmet laws to drugs, prostitution, and software piracy. We discuss how insurance markets price risk more effectively than regulation, and why many so-called crimes are really paperwork violations with no direct victims. We also look at the limits of automation through recent failures in self-driving technology, and highlight the Foolishness of the Week involving ideological monocultures in academia and the incentives that sustain them. The conversation then turns to the main topic of whether there should be an age limit for the presidency, weighing cognitive decline, longevity, institutional incentives, and why existing safeguards like the 25th Amendment rarely function as intended. 00:00 Introduction and Overview 00:29 What Counts as a Victimless Crime? 01:38 Insurance, Risk, and Who Really Pays 04:36 Drugs, Prostitution, and True Victimless Crimes 06:26 Regulatory Crimes vs Real Human Harm 07:53 Software Piracy and Intellectual Property 12:38 Waymo, Power Outages, and Self-Driving Failures 14:49 Foolishness of the Week: Academic Monocultures in Academia 17:10 Personal Stories of Academic Censorship 20:39 Main Topic: Should Presidents Have an Age Limit? 21:41 Biden, Trump, and Cognitive Decline 24:39 Living Longer, Dementia, and Modern Leadership Risks 29:34 Age Limits in Other Professions 33:00 The Age of Past Presidents When Initially Elected 37:35 Which Presidents Would Have Survived a Term Age Limit? 39:33 The 25th Amendment and Why It Rarely Works 40:57 Incentives, Power, and Presidential Succession 43:53 Closing Thoughts Learn more about your ad choices. Send us a textDr Martina Zangger's story is one of extraordinary resilience and recovery after childhood sexual abuse, and her message, that shame must be taken from the victim and placed on the perpetrator.Abused at just four years old in Switzerland by her grandfather, a respected judge, and her uncle, a well-known politician, Martina grew up shrouded in silence.Moving to Australia at 12 years old, In her search for healing, Martina fell in love with an Indian guru at 18 years old, and was invited as a mail order disciple to live in his cult in the U.S, provided she paid $8000 for the privilege. So desperate to get to her guru, and with few skills she was talked into becoming a sex worker in Darlinghurst, Sydney at just 19. She eventually made enough money to go to the Ashram but unfortunately all was not what it seemed in 'the brochure!' She was subjected to exploitation and hard labour. Her journey from trauma to survival is confronting but deeply inspiring.Today, Martina holds a PhD, is an Honorary Lecturer at the University of Newcastle, and has spent over 20 years working on the frontline with women and children impacted by sexual assault and domestic violence. This week we turn the spotlight onto prostitution in France. For years, prostitution laws were chaotic, but in 2016 there was a major change in French legislation. Lawmakers decided to shift the criminal burden from prostitutes to clients: selling sex is legal, but buying it is now illegal. While many anti-prostitution groups hailed the new law, others including many prostitutes said it would simply drive them underground and make their job more dangerous. So what's the situation, nearly 10 years on? We take a closer look in French Connections.
The numbers are staggering, but the stories are even more urgent: sex trafficking thrives where demand goes unchecked and myths cloud our judgment. Today we sit down with human rights attorney Yasmin Vafa, co‑founder and executive director of Rights for Girls, to pull the curtain back on how this market really works—and why centering girls' voices is the key to stopping it. From courtroom biases that turn victims into defendants to the hobby boards where men casually review the people they buy, we map the hidden infrastructures of exploitation with clarity and care.Yasmin breaks down the “abuse to prison pipeline” and explains how forced criminality and self‑defense cases trap survivors—often Black girls—in adult courts. We discuss adultification bias, the blurred line between trafficking and prostitution, and language that normalizes harm. Then we go straight to the root: demand. Drawing from the report Buyers Unmasked, we examine buyer attitudes, the role of pornography and entitlement, and why credible buyer accountability programs focus on changing beliefs, not just counting arrests.Policy is where culture meets consequence. We compare full decriminalization—removing penalties for buying, pimping, and brothels—with the survivor model adopted in places like Sweden and Maine, which decriminalizes the sale of sex while holding traffickers and buyers to account. You'll hear how fines can fund survivor services, how major sporting events attract sex tourism, and why the “Sex Buying Isn't A Game” campaign tackles this surge head‑on. Practical takeaways include how to support survivor‑led services, advocate for buyer accountability laws, and bring The Right Track documentary to your community. If this conversation moved you, subscribe, share it with someone who needs to hear it, and leave a review telling us what policy change you'll champion next.

EPISODE 85 Government leaders in Germany and Japan have spoken out boldly against legalizing prostitution. In some instances, they've even gone as far as to say that prostitution needs to be completely eradicated! Dani and Haley take a closer look at these stories from around the world and talk about what it means globally as well as here in the United States. There are consequences of legalizing prostitution that we've seen within our own country – specifically in Nevada.
