This week on this show I have Stanton Moore, one of the great drummers to emerge from the New Orleans music scene in the 90's and early 2000's with his band Galactic, and he has become an absolute force of nature - performing, touring, recording, teaching, making cool stuff for drums, and being an ambassador for New Orleans music worldwide.Stanton has been one of the most respected drummers in contemporary music for a long time now, since he emerged as afounding member of Galactic, who I was lucky enough to see way back in the early 2000's as they started to tour all over the place. They took funk, jazz, traditional New Orleans music and put a modern spin on it with killer grooves and amazing sounding records. Aside from Galactic, Stanton has another killer band called Garage a Trois with Skerik and Charlie Hunter - they've been an ongoing thing now for many years as well. He's always heavily involved in the New orleans Jazz and Heritage fest, and plays around the city regularly. When we spoke for this episode, he was heading out with Les Claypool's Bastard Jazz. A busy fellow, indeed!Stanton is also heavily into drum and cymbal design, which we talk about a bit, and is a master educator as well, which you'll definitely get a sense of in our talk. So to keep all this strauight, here's some links. For all things Stanton Moore, go to stantonmoore.comfor his teaching world, check out stantonmooredrumacademmy.comListen to the accompanying playlist for this episode here, which features the artist's own music, plus many of the songs that were discussed during the show. This episode is brought to you by Izotope - check out their amazing recording software at: www.izotope.comThanks for your support, and your fearless host, Steve Dawson can be found at: www.stevedawson.ca

This week I return with veteran producer B. Bravo to talk about life in California, and navigating our way through his struggles and success to create the funk you enjoy today. He returns to Bastard Jazz with the long-awaited follow-up to his 2017 debut LP, “Paradise,” with a fresh full-length offering: “Vizionz.” Replete with his signature future funk vibes, infectiously soulful grooves, and talkbox excursions, “Vizionz” sees the multifaceted artist take the classic West Coast into outer space. Les Claypool catches up with Kyle Meredith to talk about Primus' upcoming continuation of their A Tribute to Kings tour, where they play the 1977 Rush album A Farewell to Kings in full. The legendary singer/bassist goes on to discuss his fandom for Peter Gabriel, XTC, and Jerry Reed before giving us an update on the next Primus release (a 13-min song with two addiction tracks), a project with Sean Lennon that has something to do with animation, “a twang thing” with Billy Strings, and the possibility of another Oysterhead album. Claypool then heads back to 2002 to talk about the Purple Onion LP and the possibly problematic song “Ding Dang” in the era of cancel culture, using his characters as a vehicle for social commentary, and his upcoming Bastard Jazz shows. Finally, comparing his own wine to his friend Maynard James Keenan of Tool's wine: “His wine is great, but he doesn't have a 20 foot weiner!” Listen to Les Claypool discuss Primus' upcoming tour, his new projects, and more. We are media for the people! From the contest for governor of Virginia to school board races across the country, opposition to Critical Race Theory proved an effective tactic for Republican candidates to defeat Democrats in this November's election. Does that justify the conclusions drawn by many in the media that Democrats need to stop talking so much about racism, history, and structural inequality? Must progressives face electoral reality, as many editorials have recently suggested, and tone down the so-called woke agenda? Or are there other ways to report the CRT story, and different conclusions to draw from November's elections? Can the media go beyond the horserace? In this month's “Meet the BIPOC Press” episode of The Laura Flanders Show, Laura leads a roundtable conversation exploring all of the above with URL Media co-founders Sara Lomax-Reese and Mitra Kalita and Editor-in-Chief at The Real News Network, Maximillian Alvarez. I'm joined in the mix and on the phone by favourite producer, Fybe:one. Regular listeners will know what a huge talent this man is, so ensure you set aside some time to listen properly to the hour or so, slot he fills with some great insight and a stunning selection.
