The 12 tribes of Israel play a crucial role in how the story of the Bible unfolds. These descendents of the sons of Jacob (renamed Israel) form the backbone of the redemption story the culminates in Jesus. In this Discover the Word study with archaeologist Dr. Jonathan Greer, the group explores a little discussed tribe of Israel that has a shady past going all the way back to the patriarch himself--Jacob's son Dan. Sometimes the stories in the Bible surprise us and make us feel uncomfortable, and leave us thinking "That's not the way it's supposed to be!" Such is the case for much of The Story of Dan. But while the tribe of Dan has a mixed legacy when it comes to worshipping God, this study reveals how God, remaining faithful to His promises to Abraham, redeems Dan and all of Israel in Jesus, who makes things the way they should be. WAYS TO LISTEN & SUBSCRIBE:

This episode addresses a tension many believers feel but rarely understand: why truth, rules, and even Scripture can feel lifeless or oppressive. Drawing from 2 Corinthians 3, Dr. Jim explains that the issue is not the Word of God, but the absence of dependence on the Spirit of God. True Christianity is not self-powered obedience but Spirit-empowered life.Topics DiscussedThe meaning of “the letter killeth, but the Spirit giveth life”Why truth without the Spirit produces frustration rather than transformationHow rules and standards provoke rebellion when divorced from graceThe difference between self-effort Christianity and Spirit-enabled obedienceWhy the solution is not rejecting the Word, but relying on the SpiritKey TakeawaysThe Bible is never the problem; dependence on self is.Obedience without the Spirit leads to defeat, not freedom. The Spirit gives life to truth, enabling joyful, willing obedience.Christianity only works when Christ Himself is the source of power.Real freedom comes through surrender and faith, not self-discipline alone. Stop and think about who Jesus was speaking to when He said the following: "Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest." Of course, it was directed specifically at those (Jewish people) who had been held under an unprofitable law which required them to work at hearing and *doing* all of it in order to *try* to attain to right standing with God. There was no rest for them to enter into within that system of the stone-tablet ministry. Unfortunately, some of that obsolete arrangement has trickled down similar concepts to corporate Christianity today. God has not placed you *under arrest* only to be released on parole based upon rehabilitation and good behavior. Through Christ, He has placed you under *a rest.* He is the One who sets captives free. This is the reality and truth for you right now, even if you don't always feel as though you are experiencing such perfect peace and rest at all times. While the religious world loves to strike a "balance" ... and will try to regulate your rest based on regulations and law-like lifelessness planted in decrees and ordinances, we have been given something much better in the New Covenant of Jesus Christ. It's God's grace—and it will bring internal and eternal peace when we embrace it. He died so we could live in it. --Available on Amazon - "Clash of The Covenants: Escaping Religious Bondage Through the Grace Guarantee" https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0713ZSKY7

BEST OF TST: Violent crimes rates in cities like Washington D.C. might be falling but they remain hundreds of times above the national average. Their drop may also be a result of a neglect to even report crimes. National Guard troops being sent into the city will do very little if anything to stop non-violent crime either because crimes are usually reported after the fact, both violent and non-violent. Troops are not going to stop burglary, larceny, and grand theft auto. Besides, why is crime so bad and how do these conditions develop? Also, what is the point of going after drug cartels south of the border if pharmaceutical cartels are left alone? Few know that south and Central American drug cartels get funding, weapons, and training from the Israeli government, just as that country's military and former IDF train U.S. police departments. The increase in crime, drug use, illegal immigration, etc., is not just the result of social democracy but according to Israeli newspapers a punishment for the U.S. not taking enough Jewish refuges during WWII, even though they took the most. A recent Times of Israel article also claimed that Trump is burdened with Epstein controversy because he dared to question the Israeli Prime Minister, i.e., he isn't Israel-first enough. This is precisely how Zionist terrorist groups treated British mandated Palestine, with acts of terrorism against British officials because they didn't give them enough of what they demanded. Israel has also killed 6 journalists recently, and hundreds since 2023, blaming their deaths on affiliations with Hamas, while ignoring thousands of protestors in Tel Aviv who would be hard to classify as Hamas supporters. Netanyahu's announcement that he is losing the “propaganda war” is itself propaganda considering how much control his people have over the White House, social media, and mainstream media, even having recently met with podcasters and influencers to give them talking points.*The is the FREE archive, which includes advertisements. Romans 10:1-3 — Since the inception of the church, Christianity has battled the false belief of justification by works. In its modern Western form, many wrongly understand the gospel to mean going to church, doing good, or being a “nice” person. In this sermon on Romans 10:1–3 titled “Submit to God's Righteousness,” Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones proclaims that the current Christian culture continues to preach self-righteousness, self-reliance, and self-dependence. In its primitive form, the apostle Paul holds up the Pharisees as the prime example of those who are zealous for doing good works and yet are ignorant of what God's righteousness requires in the gospel. Their lack of knowledge has set them against the God they claim to serve. They would rather construct their own righteousness than submit to the righteousness of God found in the gospel of Christ. The Pharisees, and many today as well, are trapped in believing they can save themselves. The problem, says Dr. Lloyd-Jones, is that the last people to believe the gospel and be saved are always those who think that they can save themselves. What is needed is the gospel of grace. What needs to be known and heard is the truth of what the Scriptures say God's righteousness requires. Listen as Dr. Lloyd-Jones speaks of the tendency towards justification by works and the remedy, submitting to the gospel of grace. In this episode of the Libertarian Christian Podcast, host Cody Cook and guest Jacob Winograd (host of Biblical Anarchy) dissect the provocative Dispatch article “Is MAGA Christianity True Christianity?” by Michael Renaud and Paul D. Miller. The article's authors frame “old-guard” conservatism as the heir to the magisterial Protestant Reformation (Luther, Calvin, Zwingli) — elite, intellectual, and state-aligned — while casting MAGA Christianity as a modern echo of the populist, emotional, and disempowered Radical Reformation (Anabaptists). Cook (Anabaptist) and Winograd (reformed Baptist) find the parallel historically flawed and politically irritating, yet valuable for discussion. They critique the article's oversimplifications and discuss whether true Radical Reformation principles align more closely with libertarianism's emphasis on voluntary society and rejection of state violence. The conversation explores whether political positions can ever disqualify Christian faithfulness, the dangers of conflating anti-elitism with anti-statism, and why both establishment conservatism and MAGA ultimately fail to challenge coercive power meaningfully.A thoughtful, nuanced critique of Christian political engagement that challenges listeners across the spectrum to examine the gospel's true implications for power, authority, and liberty.Audio Production by Podsworth Media - https://podsworth.com ★ Support this podcast ★
