So much of modern church culture encourages us to hide. Hide our struggles. Hide our doubts. Hide the messy, complicated truth of being human. But Jesus never invited us into a sanitized faith. He called us into something real. In today's episode, I explore the next mark of an Emotionally Healthy Culture: Creating a Church Where It's Safe to Be Human. We'll unpack five countercultural practices that dismantle toxic judgment, challenge our compulsion to fix others, and build a community that mirrors the love of Jesus. You'll hear stories, examples, and frameworks that will help you… Build emotional safety into your leadership core. Develop a high level of differentiation as a spiritual leader. Create a church culture that invites people to come out of hiding and into the light. This isn't a side issue. It's central to deep discipleship. Let's stop pretending—and start building churches where people experience the grace of God, not just hear about it.
SummaryIn this episode, Dr. Jeffery D. Skinner discusses the essential foundations for church planting, emphasizing the importance of a strong foundation, vision, prayer, and community. Patrick tackles grief and faith head-on, answering tough questions about martyrdom, church law, and sacramental practice following the Minnesota church shooting. He fields real-world calls, from Teri’s struggle with Sunday obligations as a caregiver and Teresa’s anxiety over smartphones in the confessional, blending practical Catholic wisdom with sharp awareness of modern technology’s impact. Moments of reassurance and challenge are laced with candid reminders that intention alone cannot replace confession or the sacraments. Vincent (email) - Can the deceased victims of the Minnesota church shooting be considered Catholic martyrs? If so, how is this decided upon or declared by the Church? (00:57) Teri – I didn’t receive communion because I was sick. Can I go receive communion the next week without going to confession? (08:40) Teresa - I went to Confession last week. The priest had his phone with him and I don't want someone listening to my Confession. What are your thoughts? (11:25) John - I heard that you can still receive in a state of mortal sin as long as you want forgiveness. Is this true? (26:34) David - How is mortal sin different from the baptism of desire in regard to going to confession? (41:18) John - I want to point out that a lot of these priests are on call and they don't have an option to turn their phone off. Many priests don't have the luxury to turn off their phones. (47:19)
With so many Catholics marrying non-Catholics today, and even Catholics marrying Catholics but outside of the Church, how are we to approach it? Can we attend? If not, what do we do to save the relationship? Fr. Chris Alar answers this in an easy-to-understand way.
Is a supernatural “Joel's Army” really coming? We're dissecting this popular charismatic teaching and asking: What does the Bible actually say about Joel 2?For decades, some in the charismatic movement have preached about a coming “Joel's Army”—an elite end-times company of believers who will march in supernatural power and usher in the Kingdom. But is that really what Joel 2 teaches? In this episode of Remnant Radio, we put the Joel 2 Army teaching under the microscope. We'll trace its origins in the Latter Rain movement, how it spread through the Kansas City Prophets, and why it never appears in church history. Most importantly, we'll go back to the text of Joel to see whether Scripture supports the idea—or if it actually teaches something very different.Join us as we debunk this popular but problematic teaching and recover the true message of Joel: a call to repentance, a promise of restoration, and the outpouring of God's Spirit on all flesh. Started by Steven and Trina Kamp, the group followed the teachings of a Dr Pahlvon Duran, whose spirit first visited Trina when she was 9. In this insightful episode of the Compared to Who? podcast, host Heather Creekmore welcomes bestselling author, speaker, and Bible teacher Lisa Whittle to discuss her new book, Body and Soul, and the powerful concept of "whole body theology." Together, they delve into the intersection of faith and body image, explore what it means to have a biblical foundation for how we view our bodies, and confront the complicated journey many Christians face with body image and self-worth. Key Points & Takeaways: Whole Body Theology Defined:Lisa shares her journey into developing a “whole body theology” — a comprehensive, biblical belief system that addresses our entire personhood (body, soul, and spirit). This theology is designed to give believers a scriptural foundation for making body-related decisions, rather than relying solely on diet culture or secular self-esteem movements. The Need for a Biblical Approach:Both Heather and Lisa highlight the shortcomings of how the Church often compartmentalizes spiritual and physical health, or accidentally echoes secular body positivity without offering a theological alternative. Lisa asserts that lasting body image peace is grounded in spiritual transformation and discipleship, not just new diets or positive mantras. Personal Body Image Stories:Lisa vulnerably recounts her own "complicated" story with body image, including familial pressures, diet culture, and early struggles with eating disorders. She reveals how the truth of Scripture and God’s view of her body brought genuine freedom, something diets and cultural messages never provided. Discipleship Around Body Image:The conversation stresses the Church’s responsibility to disciple believers in whole body theology, integrating faith and embodied life. Lisa advocates for developing a framework where everyday choices with food, movement, rest, and even work are filtered through the lens of glorifying God. Misuse of Scripture in Body Image:Common verses like “your body is a temple” or “fearfully and wonderfully made” are often misapplied, leading to shame, diet obsession, or misunderstanding. True whole body theology digs deeper into Scripture for a holistic, grace-filled perspective rather than cherry-picking verses to fit societal standards. Rejecting Judgement & Assumptions:Both speakers caution against judging others' bodies from the outside or assuming someone's spiritual health by body size. Such partiality is unbiblical and harmful, and they call for more compassion and understanding within the Church community. Dangers of Diet and Body Positivity Culture:Lisa and Heather warn against simply swinging from diet culture to secular body positivity without a biblical root. They challenge listeners not to accept cultural solutions but to pursue God’s truth for genuine freedom and transformation. About Lisa’s Bible Study (Body and Soul):Lisa explains how her new six-week Bible study walks individuals or groups through the process of building a whole body theology. With videos, scripture dives, reflection questions, and practical steps, participants learn to draw their body beliefs from Scripture—not from culture. Practical Encouragements: Lasting body image freedom comes from aligning your beliefs about your body with God’s Word, not with fleeting diets or positive slogans. True discipleship includes how we steward, honor, and view our physical selves as integral to spiritual life. It’s time for the Church and its people to lead—not follow—in honest, compassionate, gospel-oriented conversations about body image. You check all the boxes—good job, nice house, family, success—but still wake up asking, "Is this all there is?" You're not alone. This week in the pew, John is joined by his longtime friend Bart Schuchts, founder of Church on Fire and ministry leader with the John Paul II Healing Center, for an honest conversation about finding your God-given purpose when life feels like you're just surviving instead of thriving. Drawing from Scripture and raw personal experience, John and Bart explore why so many men are stuck in cycles of despair, working jobs that drain their souls while their hearts scream for something more. As the LORD brings His charge against Israel and Judah, He calls them to remember the story of their father, Jacob. Although Jacob was known as a cheater early in his life, the LORD still showed His faithfulness to Jacob. Because the LORD gave Jacob His blessing when Jacob strove with Him, Israel now should strive with God in repentance and faith, seeking His forgiveness even now. Yet rather than returning to the LORD as Jacob once had done, Israel only continues to live as the Canaanites in their iniquity and idolatry. Even though the LORD has spoken to His people by the prophets since Moses, they only continue to provoke Him to anger. Rev. Doug Minton, pastor at Our Savior Lutheran Church in Milford, IL, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Hosea 12:2-14. To learn more about Our Savior Lutheran, visit oursaviormilford.com. “Majoring in the Minors” is a mini-series on Sharper Iron that goes through the books of Hosea, Joel, Jonah, Micah, and Nahum. Although the books of these prophets are shorter, the Word of God they preached was important in the years leading up to the coming of the Christ, and that Word remains important for the Church today. Just as we still need to listen to their call to repentance over our idolatry, so we still need to heed their call to trust in the Savior, Jesus. Sharper Iron, hosted by Rev. Timothy Appel, looks at the text of Holy Scripture both in its broad context and its narrow detail, all for the sake of proclaiming Christ crucified and risen for sinners. Two pastors engage with God's Word to sharpen not only their own faith and knowledge, but the faith and knowledge of all who listen. Submit comments or questions to: listener@kfuo.org

Today, on Karl and Crew, we kicked off the week with our weekly theme of “Church” with Dr. Tim Sisk, as we talked about the importance of not just going to church but being the church. Christ calls us to be a unified body of believers, and the best way to take part in the body is to attend church and fellowship with the spiritual family. Dr. Tim Sisk is Provost and Senior Vice President at the Moody Bible Institute. He started with Moody in 2004, and during his 20 years at Moody, he served in a variety of leadership roles, including chair of the Intercultural Studies Department and dean of faculty for the undergraduate school. We then turned to the phone lines to ask our listeners, “What was the first thing you needed when you came to Christ?” You can hear the highlights of today's program on the Karl and Crew Showcast. Church isn’t always a safe place for any of us…so, make it safe. The post Love Your Pastor appeared first on Key Life.
Satan would love nothing more than to watch the Body of Christ tear itself apart! And that's exactly what happens when we allow gossip and rumors to spread unchecked within the Church. So Pastor Johnny warns us to be proactive and to rebuke words of gossip before they even have the chance to infect the body.
In this episode of Thinking Out Loud, Nathan and Cameron dive deep into the complex and controversial legacy of Dr. James Dobson, following news of his recent passing. Best known for founding Focus on the Family, Dobson shaped evangelical family culture for decades through radio, books, and discipleship materials like Adventures in Odyssey and McGee and Me. But his legacy is far from one-dimensional. Nathan and Cameron unpack Dobson's theological influence, his disciplinary advice, and his increasingly political stance—from early cultural engagement to vocal support for Donald Trump. This nuanced conversation explores how Dobson became both a hero of Christian family values and a villain in the eyes of many exvangelicals. For Christians seeking serious theological reflection on how faith intersects with politics, parenting, and cultural engagement, this is a must-listen. Pastor Jack Hibbs is having a moral meltdown over California Bill AB 495, hysterically claiming it endangers "Christian children." This bill simply expands who can make emergency medical decisions or pick up kids from school when parents are unreachable, requiring pre-filed authorization from trusted adults. It's a pragmatic solution for modern families, ensuring children get timely care, especially in emergencies where parents might be unavailable. Yet, this Christian nationalist preacher wildly misrepresents the bill as a "boogeyman" that will snatch kids, all to drum up animosity against a liberal government and push his regressive agenda. It's classic fear-mongering, weaponizing parental anxieties to undermine public policy and promote private education, showcasing a blatant disregard for truth from a self-proclaimed moral leader. This episode exposes the hypocrisy and religious overreach behind such blatant distortions of fact, highlighting how such leaders misrepresent facts to advance their agenda.News Source:Pastor Jack Hibbs warns Christians may need to 'pack up and get out' of CaliforniaBy Ian M. The LORD reminds Israel of the love He showed to them as their Father, when He brought them out of Egypt, led them with love to Mount Sinai, and fed them in the wilderness. Despite the LORD's great love, however, Israel only runs farther away from their God to idols. The LORD promises that His judgment will come through the Assyrian army, and yet, even then, He promises His compassion will call His people back to Himself. St. Matthew quotes from this section of Hosea to show how Jesus has done those things that Israel did not do, and Jesus has done them perfectly in our place to be our Savior. Rev. Dustin Beck, pastor at Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Warda, TX, joins host Rev. Timothy Appel to study Hosea 11:1-12:1. In a relay race, a series of runners must take a baton, pass it on between each other, and get it to the finish line without dropping it lest they be disqualified. This sporting event can be seen as an image of human history whereby each generation is a runner and the baton they pass on to subsequent generations (runners) is the Catholic Faith until the end of recorded time. This image of receiving and passing on the Faith is as old as Christianity itself, as seen in St. Paul's Epistle to the Corinthians.

Great Britain finds itself in the throws of a great storm. Britishflags are removed, while foreign flags are untouched. Mass migration floods the country, destabilizing cities and towns. Crime and violence stalk the streets. And the country's “leaders” cater to illegal immigrants while clamping down on British citizens. What is one to make of this madness? Most British people aregrasping for answers. Sadly, the mainstream churches in Britain have little to offer. They have long sinceabandoned Christ, the Gospel and biblical Truth. These churches look and sound no different than the world. Consequently, they have nothing to offer the world. But careful observers will notice something is changing; afaint spark glowing in the British cultural darkness. These are the early embers of reformation. Amidst the chaos, some Christians who retained the faith are finding their voices. Some are taking their first steps at countering the lies and ugliness engulfing their island. And regular people are taking a fresh look at enduring Truth. The Church in Britain may yet rise again. To help us better understand what is going on, Dr. Aaron Edwards joins Andy on this episode of the Christian Emergency Podcast. Though they first consider the recent tragedy in America – where a Catholic church and school was targeted in Minneapolis – they focus most of their time on developments in Britain. In this episode, Dr. Nathaniel Wilson reflects on Paul's warning that “in the last days perilous times shall come.” He addresses the challenges of lawlessness, government control, and the moral decay entering homes through media and culture. Drawing a vivid contrast between Sarah's inner beauty and Jezebel's artificial beauty, Dr. Nathaniel Wilson explains how holiness is not just outward appearance but the inward glory of Christ shining through His people in these end times.

Hey friends, welcome back to Find the Joy with Jenn! I'm so glad you're here. Today, we're diving into a really important topic—one that I know touches so many of you listening. We're talking about protecting and empowering children in divorce. This is a tender subject, because divorce doesn't just affect the couple—it ripples out to our children. And as parents, grandparents, or even leaders in the Church, one of our greatest responsibilities is to safeguard their hearts, their trust, and their ability to thrive, even in hard circumstances. Much of what I'll share today is inspired by a beautiful Ensign article from April 2019, called “Protecting Children” by Marissa Widdison, but I've adapted it specifically to address the unique challenges children face during divorce. So if you're going through a divorce, or you love someone who is, this episode is for you. If you're new here, I'm Jenn Zingmark, your LDS life and divorce coach, here to help you navigate the challenges of divorce with faith, grace, and resilience. • Join my exclusive Life Coaching and Divorce Mentoring Program, Faith Filled Divorce, HERE: httpshttps:https://www.findthejoywithjenn.com/program-details • Get your FREE Podcast Atlas at: https://www.findthejoywithjenn.com/joy-in-the-journey-podcast • Make sure you are part of the Find the Joy With Jenn Fam! August 31, 2025. Sunday Bible study with Pastor Cason Kelly.
In the first 12 verses of James, he's been talking about trials. Now, in verse 13, he switches the topic to temptation. Perhaps better than any other passage in the NT, James lays out a process for how temptation and sin work in our lives.
Colby Barrett, producer of the documentary "A Faith Under Siege," shares about the long history of persecution of Ukrainian Christians at the hands of Russia.
