LSU vs. Clemson College Football Pick Prediction 8/30/2025 by Tony T. Recent Box Score Key Stats LSU at Clemson 7:30PM ET—LSU went 9-4 in 2024 for Brian Kelly in his fourth season. The Tigers return sixteen starters back from last season. LSU filled holes with transfers as the team has ranked having the best transfers this offseason. LSU threw at high volume and completed 63.6% with 7.6 yards per pass attempt. They averaged only 4.1 yards per run. Pass defense was an issue for the Tigers last season as they allowed 231 yards passing with 7.8 yards per pass attempt and did not force many turnovers. Clemson went 10-4 a year ago for Dabo Swinney in his eighteenth season. Seventeen starters are back. A returning quarterback will have a strong returning offensive line. Clemson offensively averaged 33.5 points per game with high volume of passing with 62.5% completions with 7.3 yards per pass attempt. They ran the ball effectively with 4.8 yards per attempt. On defense they allowed 24.2 points per game but allowed 4.6 yards per run. Pass defense was good by surrendering 57% completions for 6.3 yards per pass attempt.
The two biggest games in the nation are The Texas Longhorns at the Ohio State Buckeyes and the LSU Tigers at The Clemson Tigers. For Texas Football, they are playing for the first time ever as the preseason #1 team in the nation and are a 2-point road underdog. Ohio State Football is coming off winning the national championship last season. These are two of the favorites to win it all this season as well. Arch Manning's moment has arrived, what are reasonable expecations. The LSU Tigers are 4-point road underdogs at the Clemson Tigers. LSU Football feels like they are in a “National Championship of Bust” situation and Clemson Football is a very popular pick to win it this season, as well. Is this the time LSU Football breaks out of their season opening slump? LSU Football will be down one of their DBs in the first half. Transfer safety A.J. Haulcy will not be on the field early due to a first half suspension that dates back to his fight at the end of last season's BYU-Houston game when Haulcy was a member of the Cougars. Do you believe head coach Brian Kelly just found out this week about the suspension? Micah Parsons traded PLUS, LT's Trash presented by Bud Light! Mike and Jeff listened to Saints head coach Kellen Moore's comments about Spencer Rattler. Zack Nagy, an LSU reporter for Sports Illustrated, joined Sports Talk. Nagy previewed the Bayou Bengals' season opener at No. 4 Clemson, highlighting the quarterback matchup, LSU's new-look defensive line, and Brian Kelly's lack of success in week one. Nagy emphasized the importance of the Tigers reaching the 12-team College Football Playoff. Mike and Jeff also remembered Jim Henderson and Hokie Gajan's open for the Saints' return to the Superdome on September 25th, 2006.

Bill opened the show by explaining how Jerry Jones' ego was the biggest reason why the Cowboys traded Micah Parsons to the Packers. Bill then congratulated Green Bay for pouncing on the opportunity to improve their roster and says the Packers are now in prime position to win the Super Bowl. The hour wraps up with Bill reacting to Nebraska squeaking by Cincinnati and if there should be concern with the Cornhuskers. Hour two kicked off by previewing the opening weekend in college football with Sports Illustrated reporter Bryan Fischer, who gave his thoughts on Ohio State-Texas and which team could disappoint the most this season. Buy or Sell followed as Bill answered if the Cowboys trading Parsons or the Mavericks trading Luka Doncic was worse and if any top team in college football will get upset this weekend. The show ends with Bill nominating candidates and crowning this week's Bum of the Week.
Griffin Warner and Lonte Smith talk CFB betting for Saturday. The college football weekend preview opened with an unmistakable energy: offense must play fast, defense must swarm, and every snap must be about outblocking, outtackling, and outhustling the opponent. That tone set the stage for one of the most anticipated slates of the early season, highlighted by heavyweight matchups across the country and a betting landscape ripe with intrigue. Griffin Warner and Lonte Smith launched into their breakdown by zeroing in on Texas versus Ohio State in Columbus, a rematch of the Cotton Bowl. Warner admitted his Longhorn bias, but Smith carefully dissected the matchup. He argued that Texas brings more proven quarterback play with Arch Manning stepping in, supported by C.J. Baxter's return in the backfield and a deep defensive front led by Colin Simmons. Smith emphasized that the key is limiting Jeremiah Smith, Ohio State's elite wideout. Texas held him to one catch in their last meeting, and repeating that feat would tilt the balance. Still, Warner voiced concern about Arch's lack of experience under pressure, recalling his struggles against Georgia. The debate crystallized into a clash of proven depth on the Texas side versus the star power of Ohio State's top-end talent. The conversation shifted to LSU versus Clemson, a contest marked by questions about both coaching staffs. Brian Kelly's struggles in openers were stacked against Dabo Swinney's recent SEC failures. Smith forecasted Clemson's air attack overwhelming LSU's shaky secondary, citing LSU's ranking outside the top 95 in coverage metrics. He envisioned Clemson building an early lead and rolling behind their veteran offensive line and fearsome defensive front. From there, attention turned to Virginia Tech versus South Carolina in Atlanta. Smith strongly backed the Hokies as 7.5-point underdogs, noting their improved secondary and linebacker strength against a South Carolina team with turnover issues and significant defensive losses to the NFL draft. Warner added that upsets in college football often break wider than in the NFL, making the Hokies live dogs with upset potential. The final featured matchup was Notre Dame versus Miami, a renewal of a rivalry steeped in history. The surprise was freshman CJ Carr earning the starting quarterback role for Notre Dame. Smith highlighted Miami's opportunity to exploit Carr's inexperience, especially if Carson Beck's balanced attack can lean on a strong run game to offset Notre Dame's elite man-to-man secondary. With Reuben Bain anchoring Miami's defense, Smith believed the Hurricanes had the pieces to control tempo and win outright despite being slight underdogs. The show wrapped with best bets. Smith targeted Florida State plus seven in the first half against Alabama, citing Ty Simpson's inexperience and Florida State's defensive improvement under Gus Malzahn's offensive guidance. Warner doubled down on Virginia Tech, preferring the 7.5-point cushion but echoing Smith's belief that the Hokies could win outright. Both leaned on a consistent theme: early-season volatility favors teams with proven depth and coaching stability over untested quarterbacks in hostile settings. In sum, the weekend preview delivered a thorough guide to Saturday and Sunday's premier college football games. Texas versus Ohio State hinges on Arch Manning's poise and Ohio State's receiving dominance, LSU against Clemson pits explosive passing against a fragile secondary, Virginia Tech offers value against an overvalued SEC foe, and Miami has the tools to stun Notre Dame. For bettors and fans alike, the focus is clear: proven systems, balanced rosters, and situational awareness will dictate who cashes tickets and who leaves week one disappointed. Dave Clawson and Dabo Swinney became good friends over the course of Clawson's 11 seasons as head coach at Wake Forest. Clawson came agonizingly close to beating Clemson but never did, and he says he's particularly haunted by the 2022 game the Tigers won 51-45 in double overtime on the Deacons' home field. Clawson has great respect for not just the program and culture Swinney has built, but for the 2025 team that he believes looks a lot like the powerhouse that won two national titles and advanced to the playoffs every season from 2015 to 2020. Bryce Koon covers LSU for The Bengal Tiger of the On3 network. He joins the podcast to share what Brian Kelly is like behind the scenes and says it's quite a lot different from what is perceived from afar. How many LSU fans will trek to Clemson, even those who aren't going to get into the stadium? How much pressure is on Kelly to win big this year? And what can Clemson fans expect a year from now when Swinney's Tigers return the favor and visit Baton Rouge?

Bill opened the show by breaking down the biggest storylines he's paying attention to in college football this season before giving his conference and national championship picks. Would You Rather followed as Bill debated between seeing Travis Kelce and Taylor Swift break up or Bill Belichick and Jordon Hudson staying together forever and if he is rooting for Brian Kelly or James Franklin to fail more. Hour two opened up with Westwood One NFL anaylst Ross Tucker joining the show to discuss if the Commanders veteran leadership is a boost or concern and if Micah Parsons could miss Week 1. Buy or Sell was next as Bill answered if Grimsby Town beating Man United is the biggest upset in soccer history and if there will be a woman head coach in the NBA by the year 2030. Vegas Mistake's Kevin Todd joined the show to give his best bet of the opening college football weekend before the show ended with Bill reacting to the kerfuffle at the US Open between Taylor Townsend and Jelena Ostapenko.

Spencer Rattler has been named starting quarterback for the New Orleans Saints, and the drama finally is over. Or is it? Does that tough early stretch of schedule play a role into the decision made by Coach Kellen Moore? Host Jim Derry asks a guy who covered the team for many years what he thinks, as longtime New Orleans broadcast journalist Eric Richey joins Wednesday's Dattitude Podcast (Ep. 408) presented by Evangeline Securities. Also, we talk about the other cuts the team made and the surprises on the “final” 53-man roster. Gabe Henderson is here to talk about LSU, as we ask, “How hot will the Brian Kelly's seat be if the Tigers lose the opener to Clemson?” And how important is it that Tulane is a favorite over a power-conference team for the first time in many decades?

College football is back. And its Week 1 lineup of games is as good as ever. Arch Manning will try to deliver a road victory for No. 1 Texas at No. 2 Ohio State, and No. 9 LSU will aim to assert itself as a contender against No. 6 Clemson, in what will be a pivotal game for Brian Kelly. LSU has never won a season opener under Kelly, who’s entering a pressure-packed season. Hype and pressure surround Manning, too. On today’s episode, hosts Blake Toppmeyer and John Adams debate whether Manning or Kelly faces more pressure in Week 1. The alarmists will be ready to pounce. In reality, either Manning or Kelly can recover from an opening loss, but Manning struggling or LSU losing would lay groundwork ripe for hot takes and overreaction. Later in the episode, the hosts react to the SEC’s decision to add a ninth conference game beginning in 2026 and discuss why this decision helps the SEC in more ways than one, and why it might spur a scheduling change inside the Big Ten, too. For more from Toppmeyer and Adams, sign up for the SEC Unfiltered newsletter, delivered free to your email inbox.

Jay Greeson, Chris Lee and Chase Robinson preview and predict outcomes of LSU's road trip to Clemson to begin the 2025 college football season for both teams. The game will be shown at 6:30 Central on ABC on Monday night. Topics include: LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier has a loaded receiver room with Aaron Anderson leading the way. LSU's Caden Durham leads the ground attack. Clemson's vaunted defensive line includes a pair of potential first-round NFL picks in Peter Woods and TJ Parker, while LSU replaces last year's first-round tackles Will Campbell and Emery Jones with Tyree Adams and Weston Davis. Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnick could join Nussmeier in the first-overall-NFL-pick-for-2026, and brings talent and experience. Some say this is Dabo Sweeney's most talented team in years. Both teams appear to be legitimate playoff contenders, but neither Sweeney nor LSU's Brian Kelly has been stellar in openers lately. Jim has ‘Derry's Dimes' to offer his opinion (which hasn't changed much in four months). In this SEC preview episode, we discuss the impact Arch Manning could have on the Texas Longhorns, provided the offensive line can get sorted in time. Plus, a conversation around whether this year's Alabama squad will feel more "DeBoerian" than in 2024, and how Georgia stacks up with Gunner Stockton at the helm. We also debate the meaty middle of the conference and wonder if Brian Kelly can turn talent into big wins, if Mike Elko can bully the conference with his rushing attack, if DJ Lagway can handle a murderer's row of a schedule, and if Missouri is the ultimate wildcard. And of course, a conversation about a new-look Ole Miss, the fearsome trio of LaNorris Sellers, Dylan Stewart and Nyck Harbor at South Carolina, Oklahoma's new quarterback / coordinator tandem, Tennessee's transfer trade, Auburn's portal fever, and much more.
