Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Beverly Robertson, President and CEO of the Greater Memphis Chamber, who shares GOOD news and highlights some of the recent big wins for the Memphis region, while providing an overview of their efforts around shaping public policy and being a catalyst for economic development and workforce development. During the interview, Beverly also discusses "From Protest to Progress." In 2020, after George Floyd's murder, Beverly convened leaders in the business, activist, and faith communities to find peaceful solutions to the region's social, racial, and economic disparities. Since then, this unique initiative – known as "From Protest to Progress" – has received international acclaim and has been credited with being one of the driving reasons behind why Memphis protests were as peaceful as they were. As the lead economic development organization for the region, the Chamber's mission is to relentlessly pursue prosperity for all. From Protest to Progress is just one of the ways the Chamber is working to create the on-ramps to prosperity that will lead to equitable growth for Memphis.Visit www.memphischamber.com to learn more.

What do a football coach and a Flintco superintendent have in common? We asked the tough (and the fun) questions on this Flintco Jobcast, highlighting the leadership role of superintendent. We learned what makes a great Flintco superintendent and explored the possibilities of a long, rewarding, and forward-thinking career in commercial construction. “The cool thing about this position, it really is building the skyline of Memphis," said Tony DeStefano, vice president of human resources. Superintendents are project managers on some of the most influential buildings in Greater Memphis, including the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. The role oversees day-to-day operations, manages sub-contractors, and communicates with clients. Superintendents are at the frontline of defense when it comes to job site safety, monitoring quality and efficacy and looking for ways to improve. In an economy where jobs come and go, how will a Superintendent grow and evolve with Flintco into the future? “From my standpoint I think it’s going to be helping drive the industry forward through new technologies," DeStefano said. It’s not just Silicon Valley entrepreneurs on the frontline of tech. A job as a superintendent also plays a role as an innovator in the construction industry, integrating tools like augmented reality, virtual reality, and cloud based data sharing into the workplace. With their eyes set on the future, Flintco aims to add offices, grow, and be at the forefront of modernization in construction. “We are a people person business," said Henry Knerr, director of operations at Flintco. He explained how superintendents are also teachers and trainers, inspiring Flintco personnel to greatness. At Flintco, “we’re constantly growing, developing, striving to be the best," Knerr said. Take Away Quotes:“I think the evolution of resilience is pushing people to think beyond just, how do you bounce back from a flood, or how do you build back from a hurricane, but also as you’re building back, as you’re bouncing back, how are you doing that in a way that’s addressing so many of the social and economic issues that your community may face.” “I don’t know that the way that we’ve thought about disaster preparedness as a practice has taken in, at least to the degree that we’ve seen in the last few years around resilience, this concept of focusing on co-benefits, focusing on the multiple benefits, and ensuring that what we do around a preparedness initiative or project in a community has benefits throughout the year.” “My advice for any community out there is think about when you have a disaster, whether it’s a flood or something else, what are the systems that have to get in place to be able to prevent damage from happening? What are the cleanup efforts that have to take place? What’s the dollar value of those things?” Resources:http://resilientshelby.com/ (Learn More about Shelby County’s Resilience Efforts) http://resilientshelby.com/overview/resilience-activities/resilience-plan/ (Resilient Shelby – Resilience Plan) https://shelbycountytn.gov/18/Planning-Development (Shelby County Planning and Development) http://midsouthgreenprint.org (Mid-South Regional Greenprint) http://infiniteearthacademy.com/podcast/radical-innovation-and-resilient-infrastructure-climate-adaptation/ (Infinite Earth Radio Episode 045 Radical Innovation and Resilient Infrastructure—Climate Adaptation) with Shalini Vajjhala
