In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Heather Stone, a leading functional medicine practitioner with over 20 years of experience, to unpack why so many thyroid issues go undiagnosed or mismanaged. We go beyond the standard TSH lab test to explore the real drivers of thyroid dysfunction — from gut imbalances and hormone shifts to environmental triggers often overlooked in conventional care. You'll hear why medication alone rarely resolves symptoms long term, and why a precision-based, root-cause approach is essential for lasting healing. We dive deep into Hashimoto's, autoimmune flare-ups, and the exact moments in life when women are most vulnerable to thyroid breakdown — like postpartum and menopause. If you've ever been told “your labs look normal” but you still feel off, this episode is for you. It's time to move from symptom management to root cause resolution. Key Takeaways: Identify Underlying Causes: Healing thyroid dysfunction requires looking beyond hormone prescriptions to address immune, gut, adrenal, and environmental triggers. Comprehensive Testing: Traditional TSH testing is inadequate alone; a full thyroid panel and additional health markers are crucial for accurate diagnosis and treatment. Lifestyle Integration: Dietary changes, particularly eliminating gluten and dairy, and stabilizing blood sugar are pivotal for improving thyroid function and overall health. Functional vs. Traditional Medicine: Functional medicine offers a holistic approach that focuses on the root causes of symptoms rather than managing them with medications. Women's Health Concerns: Women are more susceptible to thyroid issues due to hormonal fluctuations and stress, necessitating tailored approaches to diagnosis and care. More About Dr. Heather Stone, DC: Dr. Heather Stone, DC is one of the top functional medicine practitioners in the world. She has over 20 years of clinical experience in private practice. During that time she has successfully helped thousands of women overcome the symptoms of hypothyroidism and Hashimoto's thyroiditis. Her thyroid transformation blueprint has been used by hundreds of doctors, and thus has helped countless women return to happy, healthy, & lean. Her mission is to change the face of healthcare through her private practice, books, masterclasses, webinars, education programs, and retreats on her ranch in Texas. SPECIAL GIVEAWAY! In this episode, I chat with Dr. Pedram Shojai to dive into the fascinating connection between your gut and your overall health. We break down neuroception — how your body subconsciously scans for safety — and why it plays such a critical role in healing and performance. We get into the gut's “second brain,” the enteric nervous system, and how it drives your physical and mental well-being without you even realizing it. Dr. Shojai also shares real-world insights on tackling dysbiosis, understanding gut-immune symbiosis, and how simple lifestyle shifts can radically improve your health. If you've ever wondered how stress, gut health, and the nervous system all tie together — and how to actually use that knowledge to feel better — this is an episode you won't want to miss. Key Takeaways: Understanding Neuroception: Neuroception refers to the subconscious detection of safety or threat in the body, playing a crucial role in both gut health and overall well-being. Gut as an Immune Organ: The gut houses the majority of the body's immune cells, acting as a critical barrier between the inside of the body and external threats. Role of Stress in Gut Health: Chronic stress can disrupt gut microbiota, leading to issues like dysbiosis and gut permeability, thereby affecting mental health. Food Sensitivities: Identifying and avoiding food sensitivities can prevent chronic inflammation, leading to better overall health. Holistic Approaches to Wellness: Emphasizing mind-body practices, such as meditation and breath work, can improve gut health by promoting a balanced parasympathetic state. In this episode, I sit down with Dr. Deanna Minich — a nutrition scientist and author of the Rainbow Diet — to talk about a topic we don't hear nearly enough about: the power of color in our food. We dive into what food colors actually do in the body, how they impact everything from mood to memory, and why most of us are walking around with a “color deficiency” without even realizing it. Dr. Minich breaks down the functional role of phytonutrients in a way that's easy to understand, yet incredibly eye-opening. She also challenges conventional diet labels (vegan, carnivore, etc.) and instead invites us to build a more personal, color-coded relationship with food. If you've ever wondered how to shift from counting calories to eating more consciously — or if you're just curious about what “eating the rainbow” really means — this conversation will give you a whole new lens for looking at your plate. Key Takeaways: The Rainbow Diet Philosophy: Move beyond traditional diet patterns to embrace a personalized nutrition approach focusing on the incorporation of diverse phytonutrient-rich colors in the diet. Colorful Foods & Health Benefits: Each color in food offers unique phytonutrients and health advantages, from supporting inflammation control with red foods to enhancing brain function with blue and purple foods. Importance of Creativity and Diversity: Diversifying food types and embracing new combinations can break monotonous eating habits and enrich the microbiome with varied phytonutrients. Chrono Nutrition: Align eating patterns with natural rhythms for optimal metabolic health, integrating concepts like circadian rhythm, seasonal, and lunar dietary adjustments. Expanding the Role of Food: More than sustenance, food represents culture, emotion, and interconnectedness, urging a balanced evaluation of its role in personal well-being. More About Dr. Deanna Minich, PhD: Dr. Deanna Minich is a renowned nutrition scientist, international speaker, educator, and author with 20+ years of experience bridging the gap between science and soul. She's currently the Chief Science Officer at Symphony Natural Health and the founder of Food & Spirit™, where she integrates functional nutrition with lifestyle medicine to support whole-person healing. Her background spans academia, clinical research, and the dietary supplement industry — including over 50 published scientific papers, seven books, and four book chapters on wellness. Known for her engaging and accessible approach, Dr. Minich empowers people to transform their health through color, creativity, and connection. On today's episode, special guest Dr. Michael Grisanti joins host Peter Goeman and they talk about inspired textual updating. Are there biblical texts that have been updated since their initial writing? Grisanti points to at least two examples in the Pentateuch which have likely been updated since the time of Moses. Deuteronomy 34 and Genesis 14 are key examples in this discussion, and Grisanti walks us through how these texts are pertinent to the discussion of inspired textual updating. Studies show that middle school students who become excited about science are the ones who will pursue STEM courses in high school and major in them at the technical and college level. At a pivotal time in decision-making that will open or close the door to opportunity, however, nearly 50% of 8th graders in America lose interest in pursuing the STEM-related subjects increasingly required for 21st-century jobs.Created in partnership between the National Stem Cell Foundation and The Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science at Western Kentucky University (WKU), the National STEM Scholar Program selects ten teachers each year from a national pool of applicants based solely on the description of a “big idea” Challenge Project the applicant would implement in their classroom if funds were available. The application process begins around November. Selected projects are chosen for maximum impact in middle school classrooms where research shows lifelong STEM career decisions are being made. STEM Scholars convene on WKU's campus for a week of advanced STEM training and finalize their projects with input from their STEM Scholar class colleagues. Dr. Paula Grisanti, CEO of the National Stem Cell Foundation, said, “We added education to our mission to support the development of a new generation of scientists in academic research, advanced technology, and infrastructure engineering. Supporting teachers who inspire and motivate middle school students at this critical decision-making age will directly impact how many choose to pursue the STEM skills essential for living wage jobs. By investing in the influential middle school STEM teacher now, we reach thousands of students in classrooms today and far into the future.” Now in its 8th year, there are 80 National STEM Scholars representing middle schools in 33 states. 91% teach in public schools, 41% teach in mid- to high-poverty schools and 38% teach in communities with a population under 15,000. A unique requirement of the program is the responsibility for STEM Scholars to share lessons learned with colleagues in their home schools, districts or states, magnifying impact over multiple classrooms and years. By June 2023, National STEM Scholars will have directly and indirectly impacted more than 104,000 middle school students in the U.S. Connect with The National STEM Cell Foundation :Website nationalstemcellfoundation.orgSTEM Scholar Library stemscholarlibrary.orgTwitter @nationalscfFacebook @nationalstemcellfoundationInstagram @nationalscfChris Woods is the host of the STEM Everyday Podcast... How do β-adrenergic receptor subtypes regulate immune function in the heart? In this unique episode of The AJP-Heart and Circ Podcast, Consulting Editor Dr. Kristine DeLeon-Pennell (Medical University of South Carolina) interviews two authors about their two articles published recently in AJP-Heart and Circulatory Physiology. Dr. Laurel Grisanti (University of Missouri, Columbia) discussed her study (Tanner et al.) on the important role for β2-adrenergic receptor expression on immune cells in the development of heart failure in response to chronic catecholamine elevation. Using a chronic isoproterenol infusion model of heart failure, Dr. Grisanti and co-authors concluded that the immune cell expression of β2-adrenergic receptor is an important contributor to the detrimental responses seen with chronic elevations in catecholamine. The macrophage populations lacking β2-adrenergic receptor largely retained their reparative phenotype and failed to illicit pro-inflammatory macrophage recruitment. Dr. Petra Eder-Negrin (University Hospital, Würzburg) discussed her work (Cellini et al.) in context of Dr. Grisanti's study, underscoring the mechanistic link between sodium potassium -ATPase and β-adrenergic stimulation in the post-MI heart. Eder-Negrin and co-authors found that sodium potassium ATPase alpha 2 overexpressing cardiomyocytes are a crucial adaption, providing an important functional reserve for the heart to cope with chronic stress more efficiently. Sodium potassium ATPase alpha 2 overexpression could be an alteration to attenuate heart failure. How do these research studies connect? Listen now. Miles A. Tanner, Charles A. Maitz, and Laurel A. What is the zoning process? ▶️ Visit to know more: https://www.raphaelcollazo.com/ Then you've come to the right place, Raphael Collazo is here to help you with Understanding Commercial Zoning with Paul Grisanti. The purpose of this group is to be the go-to resource for people who are interested in learning about the many facets of commercial real estate. Whether you're a business owner, investor, or just someone who's curious about the subject, you'll gain value from being a part of the group! In today's podcast, we hosted Paul Grisanti, Principal Broker and Founder of Grisanti Group Commercial Real Estate, to explain the many facets of the commercial zoning process. Along with that, he provides a ton of valuable insights that will help you streamline the process of rezoning your commercial property. To help ensure a healthy and pleasant combination of land uses, zoning is used to regulate property use. The zoning code (Land Development Code) uses property designations like R4 and C1 to describe allowable uses on a specific property. These zoning designations, along with “Form Districts” describe allowable uses, housing density, and building size and location. You need to know both the zoning and form district designations for a property to understand how it can be developed. So, listen until the end to learn how to get started. ▶️ If you're interested in learning more about the commercial zoning process, feel free to contact Paul: ▶ Email: paul@grisantigroup.com ▶ Call: (502) 253-1811 If you like the podcast, please give us a 5 ⭐ review, and don't forget to share this episode with others. ----------------------------------------------------------------- ▶️ If you're interested in leasing, buying and/or selling commercial property in the Louisville metro area, I would love to help! ▶️ Check out my Website: https://www.raphaelcollazo.com/ ▶️ Email me: raphael@grisantigroup.com ▶️ Call/Text me: 502-536-7315 ------------------------------------------ ▶️ FREE REAL ESTATE GUIDES: https://linktr.ee/raphaelcollazocre ------------------------------------------ ▶️ Follow me on: • Meetup: https://www.meetup.com/Commercial-Real-Estate-101/ • Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/recollaz/ • Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/raphaelcrelouisville • LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/raphaelcollazo/ --------------------------------------------------- #commercialzoning #RaphaelCollazo #sbaloansexplained #understandingcommercialzoning #zoningapplication #zoningrequirements #rezoningproperty #commercialzoningprocess #louisvilleky #louisville #louisvillecommercialrealestate #commercialrealestate
The Bloomington Food Revue is back! We get the committee together on a rainy Sunday to talk about more aspects of the Bloomington food scene. We start off with a lengthy conversation about the best places (and dishes) that are no long with us in Bloomington. As one might predict, there's plenty of talk of Macri's and Grisanti's, but also some mentions of quirky favorites like Garcia's and Great Wall. We then finish up with a discussion of the fine dining scene in Bloomington and why it has struggled to have much depth over the years. Is it simply a matter of population and the slow summers? What are the other factors? The Bloomington Food Revue is an ongoing podcast series brought to you by the folks from CrimsonCast, where we attempt to touch on the cool and interesting parts of Bloomington food and beverage.
