Hello to you listening in Dundalk, Ireland! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Story Prompt Friday and your host, Diane Wyzga. I can't get away from it. The Camino de Santiago keeps tugging at me. I remember two truths from the Camino: you will get blisters and you will get unexpected kindness from strangers. I became intimately familiar with both. As to the blisters: wear proper boots, air out your feet every two hours, keep your socks dry, watch for hot spots. But, as careful as you are you'll likely get blisters - the badge of honor on long treks - so you can trade stories and  treatment solutions with other pilgrims, like liberal applications of Vick's Vapo-Rub. Who knew? As to the gifts of kindness, they show up when most needed and least expected: a cold bottle of water, a wooden bench with free fruit and juice, directions from a villager, or encouraging words offered in a time of uncertainty or doubt. Just like magic.   Story Prompt: As you walk your life, what are a few of the ups and downs (the kindnesses and boot blisters) that have shaped your life? Write that story and share it out loud!  You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday: You've Hit The Dip. Now What?

Hello to you listening in Charlottesville, Virginia! Coming to you from Whidbey Island, Washington this is Stories From Women Who Walk with 60 Seconds for Motivate Your Monday and your host, Diane Wyzga. Here's the thing: I've hit The Dip. That place in most creative endeavors where you look around and wonder: Does anybody care? Does my work matter? What am I doing and for whom? Believe it or not, The Dip is a precious time. Now you get to dig deep and consider what's it for, who's it for, where is it needed? Not everyone wants or needs what you have to offer; but someone does! Lots of someones. Some years ago I was working as a shepherd at a fiber farm on the outskirts of Charlottesville, Virginia. Our neighbor raised organic goats for meat. Joe sold the meat to customers from the D.C Beltway area who knew a good thing and were happy to pay for it. But Joe wanted more. He was ready to venture out and teach people about the value of eating what he raised: organic food, sustainable, humanely harvested, no junk, and lots of pasture to graze. But where to go? He fixes up an old school bus as a traveling kitchen and visits each and every state and local fair in Virginia. Why? People go to fairs to eat food! But not his food. Fairs offer a lot of cheap fried food: onion blossoms, corn dogs, curly cut fries. Joe is offering 3 items: organic goat kabobs, organic goat curry and an organic goat skillet burger with all the fixins. While his prices are in keeping with what he's trying to sell, they are several times more than the competition at the fair. The food is foreign. No one will eat it except on a dare. Now what? Instead of lowering his prices or changing venues Joe decides to dig in and work on changing attitudes and appetites. At each fairgrounds he stands outside the mobile kitchen and shares his story: why goats, where they are pastured, who takes care of them, how they live, what makes this meat special, and why it's worth it. He prints up a flyer with his story and hands that out, too. Person by person the story draws them in, the goat meat dinners keep them there. It took time but he believed in what he was doing and for whom he was doing it. If this is you here's a tip from Joe:  “Some will. Some won't. Who's next?” As I repeat Joe's words I'm working my way out of The Dip. “Come for the stories; stay for the magic!”   CTA: If you want the story that will change minds, attitudes, behaviors, let's work together.  You're always welcome: "Come for the stories - Stay for the magic!" Speaking of magic, I hope you'll subscribe, share a 5-star rating and nice review on your social media or podcast channel of choice, bring your friends and rellies, and join us! BIBLE IN TEN
Matthew 20:1

BIBLE IN TEN

Play Episode Listen Later May 19, 2026 6:55

Wednesday, 20 May 2026   “For the kingdom of heaven is like a landowner who went out early in the morning to hire laborers for his vineyard. Matthew 20:1   “Like, for, it is the ‘kingdom, the heavens': man, housemaster, who he exited concurrently early to hire toilers into ‘vineyard, his'.” (CG)   In the previous verse, Chapter 19 concluded with Jesus' words concerning many who are first will be last and last who will be first. Continuing with that thought, He now begins another parable, saying, “Like, for, it is the ‘kingdom, the heavens'.”   As with His other parables about the kingdom of the heavens, we can anticipate that what Jesus will say is to be considered a recognizable truth about how the workings of God concerning redemption are played out in humanity.   In other words, there is the kingdom of the heavens, an example of which is given for us to learn from. This will help us see and understand more clearly what God is doing in the redemptive process. As such, Jesus says the kingdom is like a “man, housemaster.”   It can already be speculated that the man is the Lord. He is overseeing His plan of redemption, which is typified by the house. The house in this case doesn't just mean a physical house. Rather, it involves everything under the authority of the house.   For example, the house of David signifies his person, authority, descendants, scope of influence, etc. It is an all-encompassing thought concerning that which belongs to David. Of this house master, Jesus says of him, “who he exited concurrently early.”   Though a bit clunky, evaluating the words will help understand the meaning. The word hama signifies “at the same time.” A single word to suit the purpose is “concurrently.” The word prói is an adverb that means “at dawn.” Thus, the man exited his house “concurrently early.” This was “to hire toilers.”   A new word is seen here, misthoó, to hire or let out for wages. It will only be seen here and in verse 7 of this chapter. This practice has probably existed since the first people on the earth. It continues today in companies with names like Labor Ready, Jobs Today, Hire Me, etc.   It is also not uncommon for people to go to work sites or various locations where workers hoping for a job gather. Temporary hire solves many immediate labor problems while allowing the laborers freedom to move, choose what they will do, etc. In this case, the housemaster wants employees to go “into ‘vineyard, his'.”   The ampelón, vineyard, is introduced here. It is derived from ampelos, a vine. In many cases, it would make no sense to have a lot of permanent employees to tend to a particular type of job all year. Hence, people may hire employees for a day, a week, a month, or a season.   There may be a few permanent servants or employees, but until the vines are ready to be clipped and the grapes gathered, there is no point in having people sit around doing nothing while being paid. This is the setting Jesus begins with to explain what it is like in the kingdom of the heavens.   Life application: Jesus is using examples that the people would have been intimately familiar with. This is true both from Scripture and from the society in which the people lived. Although many of the things He talks about are understood pretty much anywhere, there are things He mentions that are unique to the land and culture of Israel.   If you had never seen a palm tree, you would have no idea what it was without seeing a picture of one. Many of the things Jesus speaks of in the gospels can be understood if one has read the Old Testament, even if it isn't generally known in a particular society.   Without reading the Old Testament, a person may not have any idea what He is talking about. Inferences can be made, and understanding in a general sense can be obtained, but like going to Israel itself to see the land and grasp the layout for a better understanding of Jesus' movements, it is important not to neglect reading the Old Testament.   Redemptive history did not just begin when Jesus started His ministry. Everything about what He does and where He does it is intimately connected to what has already been recorded. So, don't neglect reading and thinking about the contents of the Old Testament.   For those parts that are difficult to understand, there are scholars who have laid out what is meant for pretty much every part of the Bible. The more you study, contemplate, and consider the Old Testament, the more alive and meaningful the New Testament will be to you. Be sure to read your Bible... the whole Bible!   Lord God, what a wonderful thing You have done. You came and participated in Your creation in the Person of Jesus. He was a real Man who dwelt in a particular land among a particular group of people. Everything about Him reveals intimacy and fellowship. May we now participate in that as we interact with You through Your word that tells us all about Jesus. Amen.

Tipping car guards or paying street vendors in South Africa still relies heavily on cash. But many people no longer carry cash, and some vendors don't have bank accounts to accept electronic payments. Street Wallet offers a practical workaround: traders receive a QR code that links to a web-based payment page. Founder and CEO Kostas Scholiadis told BizNews the company has raised R6.3 million to scale the solution, with plans to expand to Durban and Port Elizabeth. Each trader's profile on the app includes a “Hire Me” option, offering a pathway to more stable work. One of the biggest challenges, he says, is initial distrust—but once traders and guards start using the system, “they're very sticky.”

Welcome to another episode of Brick and Mortar Visibility! Today, we're diving into something that, frankly, a lot of business owners overlook.Do you ever find yourself focusing so hard on attracting new leads that you forget about the goldmine of people who've already raised their hands for your freebie or one-time offer? Those leads are just sitting there collecting dust in your database, waiting to be re-engaged.But what if, instead of chasing new leads, we focused some of our marketing efforts on nurturing those existing contacts? Here's the kicker: re-engaging current customers is so much more cost-effective—five to 10 times less expensive, in fact, than attracting brand-new ones. So, what can we do to tap into this untapped potential? Well, that's why I'm thrilled to have Jason Kramer on the podcast!Jason is the founder of Cultivize, a CRM consulting firm that helps companies identify, nurture, and transform leads into real revenue. With over 15 years of experience running a creative agency, Jason saw firsthand where businesses were missing out—especially in their marketing and sales funnels. So, he launched Cultivize to provide customized CRM solutions for distributors, service providers, marketing agencies, and manufacturers. Jason's expertise helps businesses connect their prospect and customer data with their marketing campaigns and sales activities. When he's not geeking out over CRM strategies, Jason is enjoying family time with his wife, two kids, and two dogs in their vibrant New York home.In today's episode, we'll talk about what to look for in a CRM, how to maximize its value, and hear real-life success stories from clients who've made serious bank by nurturing their current client lists. It's a reminder we all need: your current customers are your best asset. If you're not taking care of them, you're leaving money on the table. And if you're anything like me and you want to really dive into this work over the next 90 days—or maybe you've got a task that's been sitting on your to-do list for way too long—consider joining Level Up, my monthly mastermind.
