Let's face it, we're all a little bit self-involved. It's not just that we spend a lot of time thinking about ourselves. There's another layer to it: we spend a lot of time thinking about what other people think about us. We take pains to present ourselves in the best possible light; we fret over whether we made a good impression; and we do our best to shape and manage our reputations. It's honestly hard to imagine not doing any of this—seeing ourselves from the outside can feel like pure reflex. But what are the deeper origins of this tendency? When does it arise in childhood? What are the underpinnings and consequences of reputational thinking? My guests today are Dr. Mika Asaba, a postdoc in the Psychology Department at Yale University, and Dr. Hyo Gweon, Associate Professor of Psychology at Stanford University. Together, Mika and Hyo recently published a paper about reputational thinking in young children. In this conversation, we talk about the broader context of this research and lay out some concepts central to it, like “self-presentational behavior" and "theory of mind." We walk through four experiments in which 3- and 4-year-old children showed a clear interest in their reputations. They strategically communicated to certain people—or about certain events—to make sure they came across well. We then consider the provocative possibility that humans are especially motivated to think about others' minds when those other minds are thinking about us. We discuss whether similar reputation-related behaviors might be present in other species, and how reputational thinking might vary across cultures. Finally, we touch on a few ways Hyo and Mika are hoping to extend this work into new terrain. Honestly I got excited about this paper just by reading the first few sentences of the abstract. It takes on such an obviously big and rich and fascinating research question. That basic reflex—to see ourselves through the eyes of others—feels so elemental and so critical to understanding the human mind. The circumstances in our lives are always changing, so becoming emotionally resilient is such an important skill to learn. It's an ongoing process, for sure, but when we can become emotionally resilient we have the strength to face any challenge life throws our way .One change in circumstance that many people find themselves experiencing is separation and divorce. For anyone going through this, it can be quite a roller coaster of emotions from anger, resentment, hurt, sadness, self-doubt, and on and on. Although I have not personally experienced this, there are many close to me who have and it hasn't been easy to say the least. On today's episode, I visit with Hyo North, a Divorce and Discipleship Coach, who helps Women navigate separation and Divorce in a Christ-centered way. I met Hyo about a year ago. At this time she and her husband had separated and were in the stages of finalizing their divorce. What drew me to her was her genuine desire to turn her own personal hurt and anger about her circumstances around and instead seek God's direction and strength as she navigated this new change in her life. Hyo's goal is to help her clients realize they don't have to walk this journey alone. We know God knew us and created us spiritually before we were created physically. And yet, even knowing that truth we can find it hard to tap into the wisdom already within us through our spiritual DNA. We watched The Wailing on Shudder.com and found out just how badly a well meaning dad can fuck up his entire family. A lesson I learned long ago. @dgoebel00 on Instagram provided this amazing artwork. A stranger enters their village and immediately things start to go awry. Families are found horrifically murdered, and people in the village seem to be changing. A Japanese man who lives in the forest is fingered as the culprit, but what is really going on? As Hyo-jin gets sick, father Jong-goo takes it on himself to solve the mystery surrounding what exactly is happening to their village. Review The Wailing was directed and written by Na Hong-jin and many have called it one of the most impressive horror movies of the last 20 years. I would call The Wailing the Indiana Jones of horror movies. It's constantly throwing new stuff your way. It's hard to know what's around the next bend, but you can bet that it will be exciting, terrifying, or totally shocking. More than that, it's an engaging labyrinth of a story that answers questions only to reveal more questions. Personally, this movie has been hyped for so long by so many that I came away a bit underwhelmed. Don't get me wrong, it's a fine movie that's pretty interesting and it definitely kept me on the edge of my seat. I just expected something so much more scary than this due to everyone's reaction to it and there's just no way it could deliver. There's also something of a cultural rift that I feel in The Wailing more so than in other foreign films. Cela fait 자는 qui se traduit par « qui dort » dans le sens « endormi ». Comme les déterminants se placent toujours avant les déterminés, « un bébé qui dort », en coréen, c’est 자는 아기. Comme vous avez dû le remarquer, les verbes adjectivés sont comparables aux participes présents en français.Prenons un autre exemple un peu plus compliqué. Vous lisez un livre et c’est intéressant. Et vous voulez dire en coréen : « Le livre que je lis est intéressant ». Comment dire ça ? D’abord, « le livre » se dit en coréen 책. « Je », c’est « 내가 », et lire « 읽다 ». « Etre intéressant », c’est 재미있다. Alors, la première étape : pour dire la partie « le livre que je lis », on prend le radical du verbe 읽다 qui est 읽. Ensuite, on y ajoute la terminaison 는. Cela fait 읽는. Ainsi, « le livre que je lis », c’est « 내가 읽는 책 ». Ce syntagme nominal sert de sujet à notre phrase. Alors, on y ajoute la particule de sujet 이. Ça fait « 내가 읽는 책이 ». Et puis, le verbe de la phrase est 재미있다 qui est un adjectif verbal. Si on le conjugue au présent en style honorifique informel, on emploie la terminaison -어요. Ça donne 재미있어요. Enfin, on rassemble tous les éléments et cela donne 내가 읽는 책이 재미있어요. « Le livre que je lis est intéressant ».

Elle a une nuance de protestation qui sous-entend : « Tu n’aurais pas dû dire ça ». Et 을 ou 를 sont des particules d’objet direct. Attachées aux noms, elles indiquent le rôle de ces derniers dans une phrase. C’est pourquoi l’ordre des éléments dans une phrase n’est pas très important. En général, pour construire une phrase, on place d’abord le sujet, ensuite l’objet, et enfin le verbe. Mais, grâce à ces particules, il est possible de changer leur place. Prenons comme exemple la phrase « 민수 mange une pomme ». Comme 민수 est le sujet de cette phrase, on y ajoute la particule de sujet 가. Si on prend 가, et non pas 이, c’est parce que le mot 민수 se termine par la voyelle « ㅜ ». Après un mot qui se termine par une voyelle, on utilise 가 et après un mot qui se termine par une consonne, on utilise 이. Cette règle s’applique aussi aux particules d’objet direct.Le verbe « manger » se dit en coréen « 먹다 ». Sa forme au présent honorifique est « 먹어요 ». Et la pomme, c’est « 사과 ». Pour la particule d’objet direct de ce mot, on prend « 를 », parce qu’il se termine par la voyelle « ㅘ ». Ainsi, « 민수 mange une pomme » se traduit par « 민수가 사과를 먹어요 ». De la même façon, si 민수 mange une mandarine, on dit en coréen, « 민수가 귤을 먹어요 ». 귤, c’est « mandarine ». Et comme ce terme se termine par la consonne « ㄹ », on utilise la particule « 을 ».

Also last night, Barrett Brown and Adrian Quest overcame their dysfunctional nature just long enough to win the opening tag match. But after the match, Brown turned on Quest...and laid him out. (STINGER: WWE) TWO new matches announced for WrestleMania Backlash...including Roman Reigns defending his Universal Title against Cesaro. Cesaro earned his shot with a win over Seth Rollins on last night's SmackDown. Rollins was undone by a superkick from JIMMY Uso. Jimmy was reintroduced to SmackDown by Reigns at the beginning of the show...but things between them deteriorated quickly. Jimmy later confronted Reigns for his treatment of Jimmy's brother Jey. The show ended with Cesaro attacking Reigns. Jey Uso rushed to Reigns' aid...but Jimmy was far less enthusiastic about helping out. THe other title match added to Backlash yesterday is Dolph Ziggler and Robert Roode defending their SmackDown Tag Titles against Rey & Dominik Mysterio. WWE had announced a match for last night's SmackDown between Rey and Ziggler - but once everyone got to the ring, Dominik insisted that HE take on Dolph...and Dominik got the pin after surprising Dolph with a small package. Reginald was in another intergender match last night - this one against Tamina. She appeared to have the match won, but Nia Jax and Shayna Baszler jumped in the ring for the disqualification. Jax and Baszler will defend their WWE Women's Tag Titles against Natalya & Tamina on next Friday's SmackDown. Carmella submitted Ruby Riott...and Apollo Crews, Otis, Chad Gable, King Corbin & Sami Zayn beat Big E, Shinsuke Nakamura, The Street Profits & Kevin Owens. Abstract: Human astrocytes are multifunctional brain cells and may contribute to the pathophysiology of schizophrenia (SCZ). We differentiated astrocytes from induced pluripotent stem cells of monozygotic twins discordant for SCZ, and found sex-specific gene expression and signaling pathway alterations related particularly to inflammation and synaptic functions. While Ingenuity Pathway Analysis identified SCZ disease and synaptic transmission pathway changes in SCZ astrocytes, the most consistent findings were related to collagen and cell adhesion associated pathways. Neuronal responses to glutamate and GABA differed between astrocytes from control persons, affected twins, and their unaffected co-twins, and were normalized by clozapine treatment. SCZ astrocyte cell transplantation to the mouse forebrain caused gene expression changes in demyelination, synaptic dysfunction and inflammation pathways of mouse brain cells and resulted in behavioral changes in cognitive and olfactory functions.
