Somna on The DJ Sessions On Location Sessions at ADE 2023 10/19/23   About Somna - In an ever-expanding global electronic music scene with new artists appearing every day, it takes nothing short of raw talent to stand out. As one of Canada's leading Trance artists, Somna took the #45 spot in the DJTOP100 (TrancePodium 2019) making him the highest Canadian within the top 100. His music can be found on the biggest trance labels in the world including Armada Music, Enhanced Music, Coldharbour Recordings, Garuda Music, Future Sound Of Egypt, AVA Recordings, Black Hole Recordings and Perfecto. One of few trance artists bypassing 200,000 monthly listeners on Spotify, Somna's music regularly finds itself on the playlists of Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz, Ferry Corsten, Gareth Emery, Cosmic Gate and more. Reaching beyond his talents of songwriting, Somna is also a highly sought-after remixer, having remixed for the likes of Markus Schulz, BT, Paul Oakenfold, Andy Moor, Menno de Jong and Lange. As a performing artist, Somna fuses together traditional mixing with current technologies in a way that creates an atmosphere for fans into a journey of what trance is truly about. His experiences with prior aliases over the years has led to performances at Global Gathering, Creamfields, Coloursfest, Eden (Ibiza), The Arches (Scotland), LoveFest (USA), and shows across Canada, UK, USA, Japan, Spain, Australia and New Zealand. As Somna, he has taken his music to the main stage at Dreamstate in Southern California, Colosseum in Jakarta (Indonesia), Womb in Tokyo (Japan) and events in Norway, Netherlands, Switzerland, Mexico, United States, United Kingdom and Canada. Just a peek into support from the world's top trance DJs includes regular premieres on universally popular podcasts such as A State Of Trance, Group Therapy, Corsten's Countdown, Global DJ Broadcast and more. Recognition from A-list DJs include Armin Van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Ferry Corsten, Markus Schulz, Paul Van Dyk, Gareth Emery, Andy Moor, TyDi, Lange, Cosmic Gate, Paul Oakenfold, Guiseppe Ottaviani, Heatbeat, Mark Sixma and many more. The abundance of support stands as a true testament to the quality of Somna's music. As a prolific multi-genre producer and engineer, his track alongside Andy Moor “One Thing About You” featuring Amy Kirkpatrick, reached #1 on Beatport and stayed in the top 10 for three weeks. Adding to Somna's Beatport success, “One Thing About You” won the 2015 award for the most streamed trance track on Beatport. 2015 and 2016 also saw multiple Somna releases reach the top 10 on Beatport, with tracks featuring the likes of Jennifer Rene & Michele C. To mark Lange Recordings' 200th release, Somna was invited to team up with Johnny Yono and Monoverse. The result was “Hijackers”, a triple threat labor of love which reached #3 on the Beatport charts. During these years, Somna also made two label debuts (Armada Captivating and Future Sound Of Egypt Excelsior) and joined the trance elite as he had the honor of mixing a 3 disc compilation alongside Andy Moor for AVA Recordings' 10 year anniversary. Coupled by a truly rare triple play on A State Of Trance (episode #791), 2016 was fantastic year for Somna. His success carried over into 2017 as Somna showed no signs of slowing down with the Canadian hitting 140,000 monthly listeners on Spotify and a yearly collected data showing a staggering 13.4 million plus minutes streamed for his music on the #1 streaming platform. 2018 was a powerhouse year for Somna with a new single on Armada's Captivating label, hitting the landmark 1 million streams for his single “Look Back” on Spotify and debut appearances in Jakarta (Indonesia), Oslo (Norway), Zurich (Switzerland) and Amsterdam (Netherlands). Somna's 2019 started on a high with a “Progressive Pick” winner on A State Of Trance and with “Razor”, signed to Armin Van Buuren's personal label Armind Recordings. 2019 also marked a debut on Gareth Emery's Garuda Recordings with two high energy singles as well as delivering remixes for Markus Schulz and Lange. Continuing upwards, Somna teamed up with HALIENE for “Secret” to critical acclaim, receiving triple plays on A State Of Trance and an official music video. On the performance front, Somna debuted in Mexico City as well as the prestigious Dreamstate festival main stage in Southern California where he treated fans to world exclusive sneak peeks of his forthcoming artist album. Closing the year with the landmark 300th release from AVA Recordings with his collaboration with Andy Moor, Somna cemented himself in the scene as one of the most exciting trance artists to emerge this decade. 2020 saw “Beside You” – Somna's debut artist album finally released on Black Hole Recordings' Magik Muzik imprint to critical acclaim. Capturing “album of the month” in Mixmag and topping the charts in a variety of countries, Somna painted a canvas of music that impacted fans from around the world. While the unfortunate events of the pandemic caused his album tour plans (USA, UK, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan) to get canceled, Somna took to new avenues to share his music. Finding his feet swiftly as a partner on the Twitch streaming platform, his channel has grown exponentially over 2020 with a dedicated community and fan base edging towards 10k followers. Combining his flair for humor, a catalog and production history spanning multiple genres, Somna's channel continues to innovate and connect fans to his music weekly. As the label manager, A&R and co-owner of AVA Recordings, Somna continues to make strides while playing an important role within the scene. His bi-monthly radio show entitled “Reanimate Music” broadcasts every first and third Wednesday on Digitally Imported (di.fm), the #1 online dance radio station in the world. With a promising outlook on 2021, Somna continues his artistic journey with a steady stream of music on the scene's best labels as well as reigniting his tour schedule with stops around the world.   About The DJ Sessions -   “The DJ Sessions” is a Twitch/Mixcloud "Featured Partner” live streaming/podcast series featuring electronic music DJ's/Producers via live mixes/interviews and streamed/distributed to a global audience. Delivered by Bell Cesariani Kinanthi Putri and Etty Samosir from Saint Peter's School Jakarta, Archdiocese of Jakarta Indonesia. Sirach 44: 1.10-15; Rs psalm 132: 11.13-14.17-18; Matthew 13: 16-17 LAND FOR THE GROWTH OF GOD'S WORD   Our meditation today has the theme: Land for the Growth of God's Word. There is a youth who shared his experience about reading the Bible from the very first page after he received First Communion. When he entered middle school, he wanted to read the scriptures every day. He read five to ten verses each day. Today, he really takes the benefit, that is, he knows God better and he loves Him more and more.   A group of families felt that worship and spiritual activities in their basic ecclesial community was very dry. They took the initiative to hold bible study as an additional spiritual activity. Several priests were invited to accompany this study. This activity was getting more interesting and it was felt that the spiritual dryness was slowly being overcome. There are also a number of people who like to write bible verses and Christian teachings on social media channels. Many people have been helped through the ministry of spreading the word of God in this way.   These examples represent human hunger and longing, that the word of God is very effective spiritual food for our spiritual journey in the world. Their needs are met, that is, God's word is obtained without interruption, discussed and shared together in the community, proclaimed digitally online at any time. The events of the Israelites in the desert when they received meat and bread sent down by the Lord God to fill their hunger, are now replaced as spiritual food, the Word of God which is obtained and processed to be shared among humans. Saints Joachim and Anna, the parents of the Virgin Mary whose feasts day we celebrate today, experienced that their child, especially Anna's womb which conceived Mary without blemish, was prepared by God to conceive the Word of God to become a human person.   Then one important question would be as follows: how effective is each person in becoming soil for the growth of God's word? When we are active in receiving, experiencing, processing and sharing God's word, we really need to avoid these things: our hearts and minds are like big streets, small streets, alleys, roads where God's word falls there and then birds, chickens, dogs and cats come to eat it, in the end God's word doesn't grow. We are also like rocks with little soil on top, where the word of God falls into it, grows but has no roots, then finally withers when exposed to the heat of the sun and dies. Our hearts and minds are like thorns and bushes, where the growth of God's word will be choked and threatened until death. So after avoiding all of this, we have one possibility, namely to become like fertile soil ready to grow God's word so that later it can bear fruit many times and continuously. We can do it right now.   Let's pray. In the name of the Father... God Almighty, always make our hearts and minds a fertile ground so that the words we always receive from You can grow without any trouble and eventually bear abundant fruit for our own good. Hail Mary full of grace... In the name of the Father... --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/media-la-porta/message

Brent Chinn, an East Asian Studies and Economics major at Harvard talks about his journey since graduation in 1992. Since he was 12, Brent had a desire to work in the Pacific Rim. After school, he worked in San Francisco but was offered a position in Indonesia by the wife of a fifth-year senior when he was a freshman. At the time, Brent had no idea where Indonesia was but saw it as an opportunity to work in the Pacific Rim. He arrived in Indonesia in 1996 and made every rookie mistake, including overconfidence and underestimating how much he didn't know.  An American in Indonesia Brent talks about his job in Indonesia. The stock market had just opened, Indonesia was an emerging economy and considered one of the five tigers at the time. His job was not just to work as an analyst but to also recruit talent. Brent had a car and a driver, which was part of the expat package, less enticing was his first lunch delivered to his office. He found it challenging to get settled with utilities and getting an apartment. However, he was fascinated by the country and its culture, and he started learning Bahasa Indonesia, the official language. It was a rockin' time. However, two years later, the Asian financial crisis hit, and everything came tumbling down. Brent made a rookie mistake when he advertised a summer barbecue and invited people to his apartment. He didn't realize that Indonesians didn't have the concept of summer or barbecue, because it's on the equator and don't have the same seasonal shifts, and he struggled to get the briquets and hot dogs. Despite the initial challenges, Brent has been in Indonesia ever since and has been working in various fields. Indonesia's Democracy Indonesia is the largest Muslim country in the world, but its constitution is a secular democracy. Its democracy was messy, with demonstrations and volatility, and Americans got evacuated. In 1998, after the financial crisis, President Suharto stepped down, and for the first time, there was a democracy. Indonesia recognized that their country was full of 16,000 islands with thousands of different languages and dialects. They had to get everyone speaking the same language and realize they were better together than apart. They put their differences aside and moved forward, hacking out their differences in a democratic way. Indonesia is considered one of the biggest success stories for democracy. It's also a great growth story. Indonesia has a lot of lessons that they can give to Americans in terms of what happens when you don't have to dominate political parties and how to build consensus to drive a political agenda.  Working in Finance during the Financial Crisis Brent arrived when Indonesia was a hot market, but Brent's personal experience was challenging, as he had been in the country for only two years when the financial crisis hit, and suddenly, nobody was taking any debt. Brent decided to stick around during the crisis, and the company he worked for became one of the largest issuers of debt. He had to print bearer bonds complete with terms and conditions. He was working with medium-term notes, which were a financial innovation at the time but are now banned.  However, when the market changed, the company got into the debt trading business and made more money selling distressed bonds than they did issuing primary debt.  Brent talks about the riots that started during the financial crash and why he decided to stay in the country despite the fact that many Americans were being evacuated. Brent left Indonesia and went to business school at Wharton in 2001 and worked for a start-up in the US in 2004 but later returned to Asia in 2009 where he helped his old company build mobile stock applications.  Building the Startup TimKado He started his own company in 2017 called TimKado, which makes software tools that fit on top of WhatsApp. The company automates content contact management for different popular chat applications, primarily WhatsApp but also Telegram, and other chat applications. Their major market at the moment is travel agents, but they also serve retailers, ecommerce, and some insurance companies.  WhatsApp is the dominant chat application for 2 billion people, particularly in Indonesia, India, Brazil, and some European countries. The company has its own API, and there are a whole group of third parties that make applications that work with WhatsApp. Chinn's company aims to be the first SaaS-based software platform that can extend beyond Indonesia, but go to other markets like Brazil, Mexico, and Europe. They want to help corporate companies build out their own chat networks and be ready for chat GTP or whatever should come down the pipeline in terms of AI.  Brent's experiences highlight the risks and rewards of working in emerging markets. The market can be volatile, and financial innovation can lead to toxic products. However, there is also potential for high financial rewards. His story also underscores the importance of regulation and the need for caution when investing in emerging markets. Life in Jakarta Brent currently lives in Jakarta. He believes that Indonesia has a lot to offer and wants to be an advocate for the country. Despite Jakarta's population of over 30 million people, there are plenty of parks and outdoor spaces to enjoy, and the city has a fantastic food scene with a variety of ethnic foods and organic options at reasonable prices. Jakarta has also experienced significant growth in infrastructure, including malls and public transportation, in the last 10 years. He believes that Jakarta is a safe place with a laid-back atmosphere and good music scene.  Influential Harvard Courses and Professors Brent reflects on his college experience and how a class on ancient Chinese art has helped him in his current job, where he is trying to use technology in innovative ways to increase productivity. He shares that the biggest lesson he learned from Harvard is to change the paradigm and do something amazing. He invites people to connect with him on LinkedIn to learn more about his work and to explore Indonesia, including Bali, and Komodo Island.  Timestamp: 17:47 Discussion on investment banking and the industries dealt with 18:06 Experience with emerging markets and bearer bonds 20:16 Working with state-owned enterprises and financial innovations 21:39 Explanation of medium-term notes and their downfall 23:38 Personal experience during the financial crisis 24:20 Trading debt after issuing it during the financial crisis 28:17 Working for a startup in the US and returning to Asia in 2009 29:42 Building mobile stock applications and starting his own company 30:41 Information about his current company TimKado CONTACT:  LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/brent-chinn-125b3a1/

Somna on Location Sessions at ADE presented by The DJ Sessions 10/19/22 About Somna - In an ever-expanding global electronic music scene with new artists appearing every day, it takes nothing short of raw talent to stand out. Reaching beyond his talents of songwriting, Somna is also a highly sought-after remixer, having remixed for the likes of Markus Schulz, BT, Paul Oakenfold, Andy Moor, Menno de Jong and Lange As a performing artist, Somna fuses together traditional mixing with current technologies in a way that creates an atmosphere for fans into a journey of what trance is truly about. While the unfortunate events of the pandemic caused his album tour plans (USA, UK, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan) to get cancelled, Somna took to new avenues to share his music. Book 3. Elax & the White Witch This was fun. I never thought I would be able to go from a horror novel to a drama and then off to a fantasy land. I think in this book I truly grew attached to the characters. It was all about what they were going to do and how they would do it. I liked the small details at the beginning and how the two kids find out about their past at the same time. It was unravelling before me as if a ball of yarn were tossed on the ground and the story came to me quite easily. I had my beginning, middle and end. This was due to the script-writing history I had. So, I always wanted those three parts to be present. I could not start without those elements. The rest of the story sort of filled in itself. I used the map. I was living in Jakarta Indonesia at the time and so I used real places and Google Earth to search out the places I wanted to use. I love ancient history, so I decided to check out megalithic structures and places of interest. The White Witch lives in a place near Bandung and since there are many volcanoes in Indonesia it made sense to put the Fire People on top of one. The amazing thing with this book for me and I believe for my editor Janet as well, was that it took us out of reality. Now of course all books are supposed to do that but this was my first fantasy novel. Not Lord of the Rings. It is not as epic and long as Lord of the Rings. It was never supposed to be. I was always thinking of a movie. The typical three acts and so most of my books will play out as a movie in my head. The interesting part of this book for me was, that I was in a different world. I could picture my characters with the Water People and the Fire People as well as Elax. Elax is my first ever wizard character and I loved him. I could picture him with the kids and teaching them magic while at the same time being very powerful. Overall, I felt that this book took me to places that I never thought I could go. The back of the book. Budi and Putri's life takes a wild and crazy turn on their 10th birthday. They find out that they are not just friends but in fact, twins. For their birthday they receive two identical wooden boxes filled with mysterious trinkets. While they try to figure out what's happening, they get swept down the river to a strange new magical world. During their exploration, they meet a wise old wizard named Elax who informs them that they are not here by accident. When Budi and Putri learn that they must unite the Water People and the Fire People to defeat the White Witch they cannot believe that this is a task that they can take on. With Elax's help, they learn magic and set out on a journey to save their world. The magical world tests Putri and Budi mentally and physically as they learn more about their past. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zsolt-zsemba/message

Locate Negotiates John Gibson is off to Queensland (as we drop) to get his feet on the ground and get a real feel for the Queensland market, it's fast paced and demand is high. We look at the devastating floods in Northern NSW and Brisbane areas and just what impact the floods will have on property prices in those markets.Potential interest rate rises are still in the news and now a war on top yet Gibson says the market remains strong and resilient and he's never been busier although he has real concerns for building companies in certain areas. As always, we have John's market wrap to help keep our listeners in front of the game. Sydney's population is predicted to hit 1.7 million by 2036 and Greater Western Sydney is tipped to absorb two thirds of that growth; we have the areas to watch. On a lighter note, John looks at Gustave Eiffel and a segway to Thomas Edison! As well a few light-hearted memories from Gibson's early days in Real Estate. Our special guest is an absolute showstopper - enter Ms Erin Molan. An extremely quirky sense of humour, give an inch she could take a yard. Respectfully somewhat flamboyant, polarising and extremely funny. A master of self-deprecating humour.A talented journalist of nearly 20 years now, born in Canberra and raised in Jakarta Indonesia, Molan attended sixteen different schools with her parents very much on the move, supporting of her father's stellar career in the Australian Army. The daughter of a major general now Senator and great Australian, Senator Jim Molan.Erin cut her media teeth in community television before landing at WIN Television Wollongong. Fast forward, now its brekky radio on Today FM's The Morning Crew with Hughesy, Ed and Erin, a Sky News contributor and Daily Telegraph Columnist. Molan spent 11 years as a news anchor and sports presenter with Nine, very much a main stay with the WWOS team, Rugby League, tennis, netball and even anchored some boxing as well, versatile an understatement. The first woman to host The Footy Show, so very much a pioneer of types. Erin crash tackled her way into the Continuous Call Teams commentary box at 2GB and networked stations around Australia and again her creativity and humour took centre stage. On a most serious note, Molan is extremely passionate about online safety, campaigning for new laws to protect Australians from disgusting trolls and those new laws were introduced into Parliament just last year.First and foremost, though, Erin is a working Mum to young Eliza!

We are Going to Switch Countries. We are Going to Switch Careers. If you have read my previous blogs, you will know that I love Asia. Indonesia to be exact. This comes full circle with Part one of career changes because I was about to enter the world of entertainment once more. A friend of mine from MD Pictures was doing a shoot in Toronto. They needed a hand with a few things but mostly production and to verify a few people before sending money over. Well, this led me down a path that helped set me on my future. Once more, the reminder to never burn the bridges. My friend started up MD Entertainment and later on opened MD Pictures. I would never in my wildest dreams imagined that I would work with them again. Another change. Off to Indonesia. Business is business. I wish that many others could cross over into other industries as I did. I was hired as the Chief Operating Officer for MD Pictures. Many people would think that this is a far cry from what I was doing. However, what is it like to run your own business? My family and I worked with large companies such as Walmart, Costco and IKEA. We had the experience and the knowledge to run a business. We had the foundation and the knowledge to make things happen. My friend knew this and within two months I was on my way to Jakarta Indonesia. What to Make of it all? I did it! While this change was huge I was pleased to make a move. I was happy to be out of the furniture business and to be able to make a clean start. This was by far the biggest career change. Was I nervous? I sure was, there was a lot to learn and a lot to take on. But, being in business we need to be diverse and we need to adapt. Something everyone needs to do is expand their knowledge. When I want to do something new I throw myself into it and immerse myself in the topics. Did I read up on what is expected from a COO? I sure did. Did I study up on what I needed to do? Yes, I did. Did I learn anything new? Did I Learn Anything? I Surely did! The number one thing I learned was that I can be a COO. How so you may ask? Well, all the main qualifications for a COO were deep inside me for decades. I was not referred to as a COO but rather an owner. We looked after several departments. They all reported to the owners. Planning and forecasting, new product launches, managing financials were all part of our jobs. Our roles were broken up differently. Quality control, sustainability, hiring, firing and human resources were everyday things... What I had to get used to was... the politics of it all. How I became a writer. Part 13

Part 13 I was a single dad for about 10 years by this time. I had plenty of experience with kids, it made sense to write about kids. One thing we need to love and understand about kids is that they are a blank slate. Their imagination is young and wild, they know no boundaries. When I decided to write Elax and the White Witch. I had 2 kids in mind along with a wizard. This was not new. But then again this was not about being new, it was about my imagination creating something with the characters. This was another challenge I made for myself. Let's do a fantasy story and see what happens. Elax and the White Witch was about letting my imagination roam. After writing Scars, a drama and jumping into a fantasy book felt weird. Mostly because I was not a writer. I was far from being a writer. I was at most a storyteller and never having published anything, I couldn't think of myself as a writer. Yet here I was writing and pounding on my keyboard. The spite I felt on Scars was gone. I made my point and I proved that I could write. This was more of a personal challenge. What made this easier was, living in Jakarta Indonesia. I had a helper/maid... That means, no laundry, no cooking and no cleaning for me. My meals were ready at about 6, 12 and 6. Coffee came at 6, 9 and 2. I am quite regimented and this helps break up a long day of keyboard pounding and also helps my brain a little. Short pauses and timeouts give my brain a little rest and also help with stamina. This was a luxury I rather enjoyed in everyday life, not just when I was writing. As I wrote about this in Changes, life in Indonesia was very different. Not having to cook and clean was a definite bonus. Living alone also helped. When Covid hit, I thought I would have problems, but instead... #writing #blogger #author #poetry #love #quotes #poetrycommunity #writersofinstagram #poem #writer #poet #life #instagram #lovequotes #poetsofinstagram #quoteoftheday #poems #quote #thoughts #writing #shayari #follow #inspirationalquotes #quotestagram #instagood #motivation #like #writersofig #loveyourself #poetrylovers #script --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zsolt-zsemba/message

Part 12 Living and working in Jakarta Indonesia is not as big a difference to North America as one might think. In general, offices move at a slow pace in a fast-paced environment. Many meetings are about topics that don't need to be a meeting and so on. Much the same waste of time as they are in anywhere else in the world. Keep in mind I am talking pre-Covid at the moment. The pace of life in Jakarta is as fast as traffic is slow. However, the big difference is the people. The staff is so much more respectful and much more polite than what I am used to. Sure, there is general gossip and backstabbing… It is a place of business and a place of advancement as much as anywhere. Interestingly enough, the staff, in my opinion, work harder and stay at the office much longer than their North American counterparts. I wondered about this for a long time until I got to know our staff. Asking co-workers where they lived was a simple question for me. When I got similar answers, I began to piece things together. This may seem simple to any person in Indonesia, but it was new to me. When most people said, “oh, I live just behind here and just over there.” It slowly made sense. A small rental unit called a Kos, is a cheap rental for the most part. $150 CAN will get you a place to stay with air conditioning, a washroom and maybe a small kitchenette. Now things began to make sense. It was far more beneficial and fun to hang out with friends at work and go out to eat than for us North Americans. We value our family time and love to punch out so to speak and go home. Many of the people I worked with were from outside the city. Some as far as an hour and a half away. The distance in Jakarta is not covered nearly as fast as it is on many highways. Here a 5 km route from home may take you an hour. Public transport will not move any faster in the congestion. Now I was able to figure out why the malls were a place of gathering and occasional shopping and not the opposite. People, family and friends go to the mall to chill and have a good time. Then they go home to sleep in the small rental and repeat the process. Many people get around on scooters and not cars. Cars are a luxury, parking and space are at a minimum. It is advantageous to have a scooter. A deeper dive into the way people act and behave revealed so much to me. #changeyourlife #career #careerchange #advice #ptsd #mentalhealth #blog #bloggs #goals,#work #health #life #indonesia #bali #canada #family #son #daughter #books #author #writer #published #work --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zsolt-zsemba/message

Part 11 Being a foreigner in Indonesia I have always found that it was as if there was a "reverse" discrimination. Because you were a foreigner many assumed that you were smarter. I had felt this many times and didn't agree with it. I think that being different did not mean being better. It only meant that our experiences and backgrounds gave us a different insight into things. My kids being mixed was noticed immediately by all Indonesians. They know and love mixed kids. Once again it is this strange feeling of being different but in a positive way. Sometimes to get into certain events they have the local price, tourist price and then back to the local price if you have a work permit. A few times I was going to be charged the tourist price until I pull out my BCA Bank-issued debit card. Ah, that meant that I worked here and so I got the local price. This type of thing was super strange. It often happened in Bali, for example at the Festival of Lights in Nusa Dua. Admission is this much but oh, you work here, thus you are now local... Sometimes at the bank, the security would guide me to the front of the line. But this sort of thing didn't sit well with me so I waited as I should because it was embarrassing. This type of behaviour is normal I assume because they want to be friendly. Many do take advantage of such respect, but I would rather blend in than stand out. I stood out enough already as a foreigner. I didn't want to make enemies. As time passed it became clear that my move to Jakarta Indonesia was a good one. I learned so much and continued learning a brand-new language, business and culture. With support from friends and family, the switch to a new life and a new job was a good one. I would encourage anyone and everyone to take opportunities and chances when they come along. Of course, there are plenty of details that need to be looked at, but the experience alone is worth it. #changeyourlife #career #careerchange #advice #ptsd #mentalhealth #blog #bloggs #goals,#work #health #life #indonesia #bali #canada #family #son #daughter #books #author #writer #published #work --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zsolt-zsemba/message

Changes... part 2. Often times career changes are a topic of conversation, the "Walter Mitty" dream. If you have not seen the movie then do check it out. To take a leap of faith and do something you have not done before. How many of us take those chances? Do any of us ever take those chances? https://youtu.be/u_KRFeoemUg A career change is one thing but, how can it change your life? Can you switch careers and are you willing to make that change in your life? The million-dollar question is just that... When our family business closed and the rug was pulled out from under us, we all had to make a change. It was not a welcomed change but a change nonetheless. I had to do things differently and readjust my life, we all had an adjustment and not just me. Having been in the furniture industry literally since the age of 10, I felt I needed a break. It was the same industry, the same suppliers and the same business. I worked and helped out a few people in the industry after we shut our doors, it was the same old thing. When an opportunity knocked, I had a chance to work in Asia again. Precisely it was back to Jakarta Indonesia where I had to spend a few years back in 1998-2003. Getting back into the entertainment business was something different and yet familiar. Having been a writer for a few years of my life it was something I enjoyed doing. Getting back in the movie business was exciting... This was a change I needed in my life and initially, it was an easy decision to make. However, as I thought about it the actual step to say yes was harder. I had my daughter and my son in Toronto Canada, leaving them was the hardest decision. I had raised my children as a single dad for 10 years. Not having them around was the absolute hardest part of the change. My daughter was off in university so I had grown accustomed to not seeing her regularly. My son on the other hand, well, we have been best friends and never been apart. My son is half Indonesian, we have visited Jakarta and Bali quite often and it was our vacation destination of choice. Indonesia is part of us and both of my kids loved it. With my son's support, I decided on making the change. “Change is hard, but not making the change seemed harder.” --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/zsolt-zsemba/message
