This week on End Credits, we're hitting the high notes! We know that this show is not necessarily high brow, but this week we're going to the opera with the new Atom Egoyan film Seven Veils. Along with that, we're going to look at the film's star, who's enjoyed a successful and varied career, and talk about all the times she's made an impression. This Wednesday, April 2, at 3 pm, Adam A. Donaldson and Candice Lepage will discuss: Mandy! This week's movie stars Amanda Seyfried, who is an actress that's been around for nearly 20 years now after her first big screen appearance as one of the titular Mean Girls. Since then she's done drama, she's done action, she's done scary, and she even got an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress, but before digging into her new role in Seven Veils, we're going to talk the best of Amanda Seyfried. Seven Veils (2025). In Atom Egoyan's latest movie, a theatre director is called back to the opera company where she go her start at the request of her former mentor and lover, it was his final wish that she stage a revival of the opera Salome. Egoyan revisits some of his old themes about unhappy families and sexual power, but it's also done through a #MeToo lens and against the background of Egoyan's own production of Salome at the Canadian Opera Company. So there's a lot going on, and we will try and sort it all out! End Credits is on CFRU 93.3 fm and cfru.ca Wednesday at 3 pm.

On the March 15, 2025 edition of The Richard Crouse Show we meet Atom Egoyan and Amanda Seyfried of the new film “Seven Veils.” In this a new psychological thriller, now playing in theatres, Seyfried is Jeanine, a director dealing with repressed trauma as she mounts a production of her mentor’s most famous work, the opera “Salome.” Rich with metaphor and suspense “Seven Veils” is an intellectual thriller about art imitating life. We also meet Sonequa Martin-Green. You know her from “Star Trek: Discovery,” “New Girl” and “The Good Wife.” She also played Sasha Williams, a main character and a survivor of the outbreak in “The Walking Dead.” Today we’ll talk about her new film, the dark comedy “My Dead Friend Zoe,” now playing in theatres. In it she plays an Afghanistan veteran haunted by her late best friend Zoe. Now in civilian life, she searches for a way forward as she suffers from PTSD and tends to her retired Lieutenant-Colonel grandfather played by Ed Harris. Then we meet Keira Jang, star of Can I Get A Witness?” a new Canadian eco-sci fi/coming-of-age film now playing in theaters. It’s set in a future where climate change and world poverty have been eradicated. To mitigate these modern-day issues, travel and technology are banned and every citizen must end life at 50. Documenting the process are artists as witnesses, like the character Kiera plays, a teenager on her first day on the job.
Amanda Seyfried opens up about navigating trauma, therapy and the toxic fear-based power structures driving Hollywood and #Trump's government. It turns out, speaking your truth isn't easy - even for the “Seven Veils” actress. Seyfried also reflects on the success she never imagined and the surreal experience of working with Meryl Streep.
In this episode of the VIFF Podcast, Year Round Programmer Tom Charity sits down with iconic Canadian filmmaker and (sometimes) opera director Atom Egoyan to discuss his latest film, Seven Veils, starring Amanda Seyfried. The film premiered during VIFF 2023 and was inspired by his remount of the opera Salome. Touching on trauma, abuse, and the artistic interpretation thereof, Adam talks about his experience directing opera and the controversies surrounding the original production. This episode was recorded during the 2023 Vancouver International Film Festival. This podcast is brought to you by the Vancouver International Film Festival.Presented on the traditional and unceded territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam), sḵwx̱wú7mesh (Squamish), and sel̓íl̓witulh (Tsleil-Waututh) nations.
We've always loved Atom Egoyan's films, but after this discussion, he is one of our favorite people! Atom came to discuss his new film, Seven Veils. And while we are talking about The Sweet Hereafter as well as his Overdue Rental, we also get a lot of The West Memphis Three and Devil's Knot in there, too.
Filmmaker Atom Egoyan ("Exotica", "The Sweet Hereafter") returns after 9 years for his third appearance on the podcast. He has a new movie that is currently in theaters called "Seven Veils" starring Academy Award® nominee Amanda Seyfried ("Mean Girls", "Mama Mia"). The film follows theater director Jeanine (Seyfried) who, after years away, re-enters the opera world to stage her former mentor's most famous work. Haunted by dark and disturbing memories from her past, Jeanine allows her repressed trauma to color the present as her personal and professional lives begin to unravel. Renowned director Atom Egoyan sees "Seven Veils" as operating within a trilogy alongside his other critically acclaimed works "Exotica" and "The Sweet Hereafter". In "Seven Veils", he also reunites with Seyfried, who he worked with on the 2009 film "Chloe", in this visually stunning, propulsive work, filmed on location during the staging of his acclaimed production of "Salome". Egoyan directed the opera "Salome" in 1996, the first opera in what would be many to come over his career. Best known as a prominent film director since the 1980s, Egoyan has proven he is a master of both mediums, and "Seven Veils" is his way of bringing both together. Also on this episode the Canadian filmmaker Jeffrey St. Jules ("Bang Bang Baby") discusses his new film "The Silent Planet". The film stars the great actor Elias Koteas ("Exotica", "Crash") who joins us in this conversation. Serving a life sentence alone on a distant planet, an aging convict must confront his past when a new prisoner arrives and forces him to remember his life on Earth.
We go from one end of the spectrum to the other this week on BEHIND THE LENS as we take a look at writer/director Atom Egoyan's dramatic new thriller SEVEN VEILS and everyone's favorite (and looney) pig and duck, Porky and Daffy, in writer/director Peter Browngardt's feature animated directorial debut LOONEY TUNES: THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP. First up today is my exclusive interview with one of my longtime favorite directors – ATOM EGOYAN. Written &mps; Directed by Atom, SEVEN VEILS stars Amanda Seyfried who reunites with Atom after their 2015 film Chloe, as well as Rebecca Liddiard, Douglas Smith, Mark O'Brien, Vinessa Antoine, Ambur Braid, Michael Kupfer-Radecky. Premised on the biblical tale of Salome, which has been told in countless ways over the years, most notably as a 19th-century opera by Richard Strauss and written by Oscar Wilde, Atom has taken his love for the tale which he has directed on the stage numerous times since 1996 and now explores what a production of Salome would mean in our current culture. This led him to write SEVEN VEILS about a remount of Salome that he filmed at the same time the opera was being performed on stage by the Canadian Opera Company in 2023, using the opera singers from Salome in the film. Switching gears now, we go from the seductive and sensual to sarcasm, satire, slapstick, and pure unadulterated joy with Porky Pig and Daffy Duck in LOONEY TUNES: THE DAY THE EARTH BLEW UP and my exclusive conversation with writer/director/animator PETER BROWNGARDT. Listen as Peter talks about animation and dialogue going hand in hand aka what came first the pig or the duck egg and working with 11 writers/animators to develop the emotion through drawing, dialogue and voicing, the classic hand-drawn visuals, paying homage to the past – including many classic films – while adding some contemporary notes, melding genres, music and score, getting a greenlight from Warners to make the film, and of course Peter's own learning curve with his first feature after hundreds of Looney Tunes shorts. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com
On this special episode, Eric sits down with Atom Egoyan & Amanda Seyfried to discuss their new film Seven Veils.
Written and directed by Atom Egoyan, Seven Veils tells the story of Jeanine (Amanda Seyfried), a theatre director who has finally re-entered the world of opera. Tasked with staging her former mentor's most famous work, Salome, Jeanine finds herself increasingly haunted by her past experiences. Battling repressed trauma, Jeanine's world begins to unravel, threatening both her professional and personal lives in ways that she could have never imagines. In this 1on1, we speak to Egoyan about whether or not stories are live and his attraction to SALOME.

Amanda Seyfried was 17 when she landed her breakthrough role as Karen Smith in “Mean Girls.” But as fun as the movie was, she didn't want to get pigeonholed as “the ditzy blonde” forever. Amanda says her first true departure was her starring role in Atom Egoyan's erotic thriller “Chloe,” which established her as a serious actor who was willing to take a risk. Now, she's teamed up with the Canadian director once again on his new film, “Seven Veils.” Tom Power caught up with Amanda to talk about her latest role and how she looks back on the trajectory of her career.

This week, Oscar-nominated writer and director Atom Egoyan – whose latest drama Seven Veils opens in theatres across Canada this Friday – joins the chorus for Norman Jewison's 1973 screen adaptation of Jesus Christ Superstar … a film, and a musical, with which Atom has a very personal connection. He has counselled 36 film & tv projects, including Blackberry, Seven Veils, Humane, and many more. In this conversation, we dive into his journey and the world of movie-making. While having a strong story matters, it is important also to understand how to make a "successful" film, from a legal and business perspective. Using the example of an independent film with less than 5 million in funding, we explore what is needed to get a film off the ground, including what legal protections you should have in place, the intricacies of film financing, attracting talent (both in front of and behind the camera), maximizing distribution opportunities, and more. Lastly, as this was recorded during the writer & actor strikes, we discuss two main sticking points in those conversations - the future of residuals and AI in film and television.

Amanda Seyfried's film Seven Veils, directed by Atom Egoyan, is set to premiere at the 2024 Berlin Film Festival. The plot follows Seyfried, portraying a director organising an opera revival of Richard Strauss's Salome, intertwining reality and fiction. With a runtime of three hours and 29 minutes for its Netflix release, the extended cut will feature a scene between Ranbir Kapoor and Rashmika Mandanna not included in the theatrical version. A newly released image teases Seyfried's shocked expression, hinting at the film's exploration of complex relationships. Egoyan, impressed with Seyfried's performance, notes her portrayal of a woman dealing with intricate relationships in her past, present, and future. Boasting an 83% approval rate on Rotten Tomatoes, Seven Veils has generated positive buzz, and its festival success may pave the way for a wider theatrical release. The Berlin Film Festival, scheduled from February 15 to 24, will provide a platform for the film to compete alongside other industry heavyweights.

Today’s guest is not a filmmaker – but his best-known work is closely connected to one of the most popular movie series of all time. It is novelist Rob MacGregor, who wrote the novelization of Steven Spielberg’s third Indiana Jones movie, INDIANA JONES AND THE LAST CRUSADE – and then went on to write six more original Indy adventures shortly afterwards, starting with INDIANA JONES AND THE PERIL AT DELPHI in 1991 and then continuing with DANCE OF THE GIANTS, THE SEVEN VEILS, THE GENESIS DELUGE, THE UNICORN’S LEGACY and INDIANA JONES AND THE INTERIOR WORLD throughout 1991 and 1992.… The post #28: Mythology and Spirituality: Rob MacGregor on his Indiana Jones Novels appeared first on Talking Pictures.

New episode out now! We enter the quippy, extremely 2000's world of Veronica Mars right at the beginning with the pilot episode. We cover the “Nancy Drew meets Philip Marlowe” of it all, how the show utilizes PI tropes (or PI-ness, if you will) but gives them a fresher look with a cynical teenage protagonist in modern-day Southern California. We get into some of the more problematic storylines and decisions, and discuss some of the moral ambiguity this show presents. We also marvel at the list of pretty big guest stars, agree that Kristen Bell is great, and love the relationship between Veronica and her father. Katy is baffled by teenagers, Carrie spell checks hazing graffiti, Maddy misremembers mind-reading storylines, and Mack is apparently on a one-sided first-name basis with Joel McHale. We also praise Maddy's Snapchat skills and wonder if she could be a TikTok star, try to figure out if houseboats are a viable apocalypse option, wonder how so many teenagers can afford motorcycles, and Mack fully reads Maddy's mind. Listen to hear us talk about copyright law, three different Robs, haircuts, the Dance of the Seven Veils, and more! PS there are SERIES SPOILERS - timestamps below! TW: Sexual assault, date rape, dismissive and abusive police practices, teen drug use Spoiler Timestamps: 32:52-34:02, 34:21-37:04, and 39:41-41:26.

Synopsis One of the 20th century's most important – and most lurid – operas had its American premiere at the Metropolitan Opera on today's date in 1907. Richard Strauss's “Salome” is a faithful setting of Oscar Wilde's play about the decadent Biblical princess who, after her famous “dance of the seven veils,” demands the head of John the Baptist on a silver platter as a reward. She then confesses her love to the severed head and kisses it. This scene, accompanied by Strauss's graphic music, proved too much for early audiences to take. “A reviewer,” wrote The New York Tribune, ”should be an embodied conscience stung into righteous fury by the moral stench with which Salome fills the nostrils of humanity.” The Met cancelled the rest of the scheduled performances, and “Salome” was not staged there again until 1934. Closer to our time, the American composer Terry Riley put a more positive spin on the legend of Salome. In the 1980s, Riley wrote some string quartets collectively titled “Salome Dances for Peace.” “I conceived my quartets as a kind of ballet scenario,” said Riley, “in which contemporary world leaders like Reagan and Gorbachev are seduced by a reincarnated Salome into realizing world peace.” Music Played in Today's Program Richard Strauss (1864-1949) — Dance of the Seven Veils, from Salome (New York Philharmonic, Lorin Maazel, cond.) As was the case in part 1 the second part of this episode is full of great music choices and fantastic stories from John's 40 years as a musician, producer and sound guy. John titled his bio "My Bizarre Life of Happy Accidents and Near Misses" and given the stories he tells here you can see why . Spanning a Top 40 album with Loop , being supported by Nirvana , The Dance of the Seven Veils to "Beat It" on a boombox in a Belgrade Nightclub , a Top 50 show at the Edinburgh Festival and the BBC turning his house into a hill , this episode will hopefully strike a chord and put a smile on your face. Salome, Op. 54, is an opera in one act by Richard Strauss to a German libretto by the composer, based on Hedwig Lachmann's German translation of the French play Salomé by Oscar Wilde. Strauss dedicated the opera to his friend Sir Edgar Speyer. The opera is famous (at the time of its premiere, infamous) for its "Dance of the Seven Veils". The final scene is frequently heard as a concert-piece for dramatic sopranos. On Thursday September 24th, the Hermetic Hour will present a live broadcast of the Festival of Seven Gates, Astarte's descent into the Underworld to ressuerrect Prince Baal. This is our 46th annual performance of this ancient Autumn Equinox rite which was inspired by Ishtar's descent and Princess Salome's Dance of the Seven Veils. Tune in and celebrate with us. Astarte to the Dark Lord: “Seven Veils I left behind me, on the Gates through which I passed, Seven treasures given dearly, but I freely yield the last! For my hidden veil is darkness, where the final secrets lie…. In thy pride thou hast forgotten: Even Death must surley Die!”
On this episode, hosts Christopher Funderburg & John Cribbs are joined by Lisi Russell to discuss her husband Ken Russell's BBC biopic of Richard Strauss, The Dance of the Seven Veils. The controversial film, suppressed since its premiere in 1970, recently screened for the public for the first time in five decades. Russell's angry and uncompromising film mixes a Monty Python-esque sense of satire with a harsh critique of cultural institutions across the spectrum for a depiction of Strauss that absolutely refuses to forgive the influential composer for his strained and tense collaboration with the ruling Nazi party. The conversation explores whether this is a fair portrayal of Strauss (who lost family in the holocaust), how the film may serve as an auto-critique of Russell himself, the slippery nature of campy comedy, and the ways in which an artist may take a intransigent position in their artwork as a way of exploring the most difficult aspects of an ambiguous situation. This book explores historical and contemporary ideas of witchcraft through the perspective of the Clan of Tubal Cain – a closed Initiatory group aligned to the Shadow Mysteries within the Luciferian stream. As students of arte we mediate the ancestral stream, teaching through practice with the sacred tenets of Truth, Love and Beauty. The Word is thus manifest in deed and vision. “A driving thirst for knowledge is the forerunner of wisdom. Knowledge is a state that all organic life posesses, wisdom is the reward of the spirit, gained in the search for knowledge. Truth is variable – what is true now, will not be true tomorrow, since the temporal truths are dependent upon ethics and social mores – therefore wisdom is possibly eternal Truth, untouched by man’s condition. So we must come to the heart of the People, a belief that is based upon Eternity, and not upon social needs or pressures – the ‘witch’ belief then is concerned with wisdom, our true name, then is the wise people and wisdom is our aim.” – Robert Cochrane (1931-1966) Contents: Mythopoesis / Goda, the Clan of Tubal Cain and Robert Cochrane/ Hekate, Dark Mistress of the Soul/ The Wisdom of Courtly Love/Dance of the Seven Veils/ / Hand of Fatima / Sila na gigh /Dia de los Muertos / Abbots Bromley, the Wild Hunt and Saint Nick / Summer and Winter Customs / The Wild Hunt / Green Knight, Dark God of Light / The Fisher King: Gnostic Priest of the High Mysteries of the Graal / The Divine Duellists / Why Cranes? I heard about her one night at the Palomino, sipping a whiskey at the leather padded bar while men in suits ordered martinis and gossipped about their mistresses. As a reminder, this is our last episode for our demon themed season! We'll be taking a short break to create some more creepy stories, then be back for some more dark tales. When Salome, the daughter of Herodias came in and danced, she pleased Herod and his dinner guests. The king said to the girl, “Ask me for anything you want, and I’ll give it to you." Mark 6:22
Rev. Pat continues her "Wounded Word" series. The third most common words noted were "religion" and "church." What came to Rev. Pat's mind was the Dance of the Seven Veils featured in Tom Robbins' novel, Skinny Legs and All. With each veil dropped, another truth is revealed. When the fourth veil dropped, a Robbins character reflects that “longing for the Divine is intrinsic in Homo sapiens. . . enlarging our souls and lighting up our brains. . . Religion is nothing but institutionalized mysticism. The catch is, mysticism does not lend itself to institutionalization.” Does organized religion and/or Unitarian Universalism help to broaden or diminish the mystical impulse?
The prize-winning novelist William Boyd has set his latest novel, Love Is Blind, at the turn of the 20th century. He tells Amol Rajan how his young Scottish protagonist travels across Europe in a tale of obsession, passion and music. Lust and violence combine in Strauss's opera Salome in which a young princess performs the Dance of the Seven Veils for the head of John the Baptist on a platter. Director Adena Jacobs has put a bold new spin on the story for English National Opera in her psychologically challenging interpretation. Nietzsche may have written the famous phrase 'God is dead' but he also wrote movingly about love, guilt and hate. Biographer Sue Prideaux argues that Nietzsche is one of the most misunderstood philosophers. She explodes prevailing myths that he was a Nazi-sympathising, humourless misogynist. And popular culture is under the spotlight in the film critic Peter Biskind's latest book, The Sky is Falling. He argues that zombies, androids and superheroes heralded the age of political extremism. Producer: Katy Hickman.

Producer, Director and Conductor - Joana Filipe Martinez CMD Grand Opera Company of Barcelona
The 7th 'veil' hides your client’s physiology that so often is in conflict with the perception they wish to portray! If your client’s body language is ‘out of alignment’ with the perception they want to create, it’s time to sit up straight and take notice!
The 6th ‘veil’ is perhaps the most important of the “Seven Veils” because it bares your client’s psychological imprint.
In this episode, I will show you how to remove the 5th 'veil' that covers up the environmental influences that your client is subjected to!
In this episode, I will show you how to remove the 4th 'veil' that strips away the language & communication barriers that are an impediment to solving a problem or achieving a Desired Outcome.
In this episode, I will show you how to remove the 3rd veil which reveals any of the sociological issues that may have led, or contributed to your client’s current problems or challenges.
I have identified seven dark chambers that can prevent your clients from achieving their goals and objectives. These chambers are hidden behind veils to conceal your client’s uttermost fears or greatest desires. I call these veils the “Seven Veils of Success”.
In this episode, I will show you how to remove the 2nd veil that covers your client’s behavioral elements and character traits. These are the elements that can create an unfavorable impression about your client and prevent them from achieving a Desired Outcome.
On this week’s episode of “Bewitched”… wait, this is “Batman”?? What has become of our beloved played-serious-for-humor show? The tone now feels like a full-on sitcom, and the Dynamic Duo have been reduced to Penguin’s playthings, on the excuse that they have to “keep an eye on him” but can’t arrest him JUST YET… Oh, and by the way, there’s a hand puppet in this arc. Still, there’s plenty of interest to talk about in the Penguin-Marsha three-parter: Its reflexivity in presenting the making of a film in a film; how the people on screen can’t see anything we can’t see, even that film crew that’s just ten feet away from them; the way this arc is simultaneously moving ever more aggressively away from the normal formula, and giving us things we haven’t seen since Hi Diddle Riddle! We also get into the background of the Dance of Seven Veils and the “Scene 12” milk bath, and ask the question: if the show is becoming more like a sitcom, does that mean it's MORE or LESS campy? Plus, another overflowing Bat-Mailbag, and the Sam Chalpin version of the Batman theme! Shots of the film crews shown in this arc (click to enlarge)

Концертные альбомы, такие как "Calling Down the Sky" (2004) и "Humidity" (2000) задокументировали его уникальные импровизации. Yahia Mehamdi (Thank you for your Patience, 2003) и Daniel Colvin (Atlas Dei, 2007 - 90 минут музыки Роберта в surround-формате), а также для видеоинсталляций Michael Somoroff (Illumination, 2007). Роберт тесно сотрудничает с производителями электронных музыкальных инструментов. Он создавал музыкальные библиотеки для Emu Proteus 3 и Morpheus, Seer Systems Reality, он создал CD c семплами для Things that Go Bump in the Night, ACID Loop Library Liquid Planet, WayOutWares TimewARP2600, и для синтезаторов Camel Audio.
On Thursday October 2nd, 2014 the Hermetic Hour with host Poke Runyon will present a discussion on Princess Salome's Dance of the Seven Veils. which was actually the Phoenician version of Babylonian Ishtar's descent into the underworld to resurrect the Dying God; in her case Tammuz, in our case Ba'al Hadad We have used this obviously fact-based legend to reconstruct Anath's vanquishing the Lord of Death at Autumn Equinox to revive Prince Ba'al the rain and vegetation god of ancient Canaan. If you are wondering about where the head of John the Baptist comes into this, we will solve that mystery also. Our special guest for this program will be Frater Heracles of our Austin, Texas lodge who just presented a spectacular Festival of Seven Gates and will give us his first hand impressions of this revived ancient rite and how it is done in the 21st century. So, if you want to know where the Dance of the Seven Veils started -- and is still going -- tune in and chant: "Down and down the path we go, to the caverns far below!"
In the Cathedral of Foggia one can find an ancient and mysterious image of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This icon, called “Our Lady of the Seven Veils,” once caused Saint Alphonsus to go into ecstasy, which I will describe below. As a young priest, St Pio of Pietreclina would make a visit to this image every day. I’ve read about the image, but knew nothing about it. I did some research and here is what I found. Madonna of the Seven Veils, Foggia In the eleventh century Foggia, Italy was a tiny town perched around the Tavern of the Owl. One day some local farmers saw three flames over a small pond or bog. Intrigued, they dug where the miraculous fire had been and discovered a large “table” buried in the mud. They realized that this “table” was actually a Byzantine icon that had remained somewhat preserved despite being soaked in water and mud. The image was cleaned and then cloaked with new veils. I assume there were seven veils and hence the name, but I cannot verify this. The icon was then placed in the local Tavern of the Owl for veneration. Soon the tavern became a place of pilgrimage. In 1080 Robert Guiscard built a church to honor the sacred image. In 1172 the church was expanded by William II “the Good” of Sicily. The “face hole” is all that one can now see of the original wooden icon. It is black and the face is now indiscernible. However, on Maundy Thursday of 1731, the Virgin Mary’s white face appeared in this portal, which was usually black and dark. Saint Alphonsus Liguori heard about apparition and went to Foggia to venerate the Immaculate Mother of the Savior. He also received an apparition of the Virgin’s face in the small black portal. He described the Blessed Virgin’s face on that occasion as a girl of 13-14 with a white veil. The apparitions of the Virgin’s face on the icon continued until about 1745. As the city grew larger, the church was decorated and enriched. The Normans, Swabians, Angevins, Aragonese, Spaniards, and Bourbons considered the church to be one of the most important in Italy. It has served as the site for several royal weddings. Today, the image is said to be covered in seven layers of precious metal and embroidered material – hence the name Madonna of the Seven Veils.
