How do stigmatized industries like cannabis become part of the cultural mainstream? In part 1 of host Ellen Scanlon's conversation with Jasmine Bina, a cultural futurist and founder of the brand strategy agency Concept Bureau, we explore how culture shifts and who gets to shape those changes. Jasmine shares why outdated narratives still linger around cannabis, what Gen Z's shift away from alcohol reveals about risk and identity, and why legalization alone isn't enough to change public perception. If you're curious about how cultural change actually happens—and what it means for cannabis, alcohol, and other emerging industries—this episode is a must-listen. As western pundits, politicians and celebrities suddenly pivot to denouncing Israel's genocidal atrocities after two years of silence, it's hard to believe that just a few weeks ago we were being told that saying "death to the IDF" is a hate crime. Reading by Tim Foley.
Today's episode is a truth-telling, taboo-breaking, and pleasure-restoring conversation that could quite literally change lives.I am joined by Dr. Laurie Mintz, psychologist, author, speaker, and Emeritus Professor at the University of Florida, whose life's work has been a powerful act of cultural unlearning and sexual awakening. Dr. Mintz is the author of the groundbreaking books Becoming Cliterate: Why Orgasm Equality Matters and How to Get It and A Tired Woman's Guide to Passionate Sex. Both are rooted in science, filled with heart, and have been proven through published research to increase sexual satisfaction, body confidence, and orgasm frequency in women, and to radically improve communication and connection between partners. For too long, the narratives around women's bodies and sexuality have been distorted by shame, silence, and a patriarchal script that left so many disconnected from their birthright: pleasure, autonomy, and full aliveness. In a world where we have been taught that sex is penetration, that female pleasure is elusive, and that clitoral stimulation is optional, Dr. Mintz is leading a revolution: a revolution for orgasm equality, for linguistic liberation, and for true intimacy based on knowledge, consent, and joy.Her viral TEDx talk, watched by over two million people, challenges us to close the pleasure gap and to stop treating women's orgasms as afterthoughts, or worse, illusions. And her message is as much about cultural healing as it is about personal empowerment. In this episode, we explore why sex education fails most women, how language shapes our sexual experiences, why so many women fake orgasm, and how we can all return to a more authentic, attuned, and pleasure-centered approach to sexuality. This is much more than a conversation about sex. It is a conversation about power, equality, and embodiment. It is about reclaiming what was ours all along. And to remember that when a woman's pleasure is honored, we do not just heal individuals, we begin to heal the world.Episode highlights:03:00 – Dr. Mintz shares her path from writing about low sexual desire in women to uncovering the widespread ignorance around the clitoris and female orgasm.05:45 – The “orgasm gap” is a cultural problem, not a biological one—and the myth that “sex equals penetration” is rooted in patriarchal definitions of sex.08:00 – Mainstream media portrays distorted, unrealistic depictions of female pleasure, leading women to believe they are broken when they aren't.10:00 – Why so many women fake orgasms and how performance-based sex robs both partners of real connection and joy.13:45 – New research shows that bisexual women orgasm dramatically more with female partners than male ones—revealing a deeper systemic issue.16:15 – How language, sex ed, and media erase clitoral stimulation, creating a false norm that harms everyone.22:00 – When women feel fully safe, seen, and met, they can access not just physical but also spiritual and energetic orgasms.24:30 – The false end-point of male orgasm in sex and why we must redefine climax as a shared, intentional experience.27:00 – The real cost of ignoring women's pleasure: emotional distance, relational breakdown, and lost intimacy.29:00 – Lesbian couples experience more orgasms because of communication, mutual respect, and attention to clitoral stimulation—practices that can be applied to all relationships.31:45 – Research-backed benefits of Becoming Cliterate: greater sexual satisfaction, more frequent orgasms, improved communication—and less sexual pain.34:00 – Dr. Mintz's six-step rhyme to close the orgasm gap: Educate, Meditate, Communicate, Lubricate, Vibrate, Alternate.36:30 – Addressing the myth of vibrator “desensitization” with science and compassion.39:00 – Why labiaplasty, unless medically necessary, is a...

Von den späten 1960er bis zu den frühen 1980er Jahren wurden mit billigsten Mitteln unzählige Filme abseits des Mainstreams produziert, für ein überwiegend männliches Publikum. Was all die Zombieschocker, Kannibalenstreifen, derben Komödien oder wüsten Thriller gemeinsam hatten: Reißerische Titel, provokante Inhalte, sensationalistische Bilder. This episode features special guest Michael Fisher (Mr. Mobile) and explores why foldable smartphones remain a niche, with less than 2 percent of buyers ever having used one. Major barriers include Android exclusivity, iPhone user lock-in, limited mainstream interest, and high prices. Apple’s reputation for turning obscure categories mainstream raises the question of whether a future iPhone Fold would legitimize the segment or simply reveal how little consumer appetite there really is for foldables. Hosts: @Andru & @jon4lakers Guest: @TheMrMobile Apple’s arrival in any product category can rapidly shift consumer perception, lending instant credibility to what was once seen as a novelty. Despite six-plus years and multiple iterations from Samsung and others, foldables have struggled to gain widespread traction, even as innovation continues. Real-world statistics show that adoption is slow and interest is still tightly linked to brand loyalty and ecosystem lock-in, rather than just hardware features. Hands-on experience with Samsung’s Galaxy Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 highlights key improvements in ergonomics, camera systems, outer screen usability, and battery life. However, fast charging remains a notable weakness compared to competitors. Other technical debates include the ongoing value of S-Pen support, the importance of thinness versus durability, and how Chinese brands are advancing the market, though often at the cost of software polish or US market compatibility. A major segment covers Apple’s lawsuit against Jon Prosser over leaked iOS 26 details and device trade secrets. The panel discusses the legal and ethical lines between tech journalism, leaks, and trade secret theft, contrasting the current case with past experiences and lawsuits in the industry. Topics include privacy expectations for employees, Apple’s approach to leaks, and the impact such lawsuits have on creators, reporters, and the broader tech community.Support the show: http://youtube.com/gearlive/joinSee omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.
Art curator Jean Wainwright has brought Andy Warhol - My True Story to the Newlands House Gallery in Petworth, West Sussex. In the late 1990's, Wainwright began her own journey to discover Andy Warhol. She went beneath the elusive character who uttered soundbites, played with people's perceptions of him and had become famous for prints of Campbell's soup, brillo boxes and Marilyns. Noni Needs talks to Gallery director Dr Loucia Manopoulou about Jean's journey to discover the real Andy Warhol and what can be seen at this very personal exhibition of his life. Dr Manopoulou said: "The image of Andy Warhol embedded in the Mainstream cultural consciousness, is well known: the silver wig, the dark glasses, the soundbites, and Factory glamour. But behind the constructed persona was a man of acute observation and enduring curiosity, whose private world rarely broke through the public facade. "In the exhibition of Andy Warhol - My True Story, Jaean Wainwright peels back the layers." The exhibition showcases a diverse range of Warhol's work including drawings, printmaking, photography, film, audio recordings and archival material. There are of course the old favourites including Elvis, Marilyn and Mona Lisa . With homage to Warhol from contemporary artists including Philip Colbert, Gavin Turk anf Rob and Nick Carter For more information go to Newlands House gallery The exhibition runs until September 14, 2025. Beauty brand founder, Priyanka Ganjoo, created Kulfi Beauty with a mission to celebrate South-Asian culture and allowing room for embracing diversity, community, and joy. In just a few years, Priyanka went from being on the corporate side of the beauty industry to launching the first South Asian-owned makeup brand in all Sephora stores across North America. She is driven by a mission to celebrate individuality, and the result is that Kulfi has cultivated a thriving, engaged community while also tying in to her original purpose of filling a major gap in the beauty market. Her company is successfully bridging South Asian beauty with mainstream appeal, which is easily demonstrated by looking at their social media, models, branding, and more.Priyanka worked on the corporate side of the beauty industry for 5 years and saw first-hand how South Asians were underrepresented. After constantly searching for products that matched her skin tone and feeling like an outsider in the industry, she wanted to create more inclusive products. She launched Kulfi in 2021. Shortly afterwards, Kulfi's cult-favorite kajal eyeliners, concealers, and eyeshadows won awards from Allure and Byrdie. Tucker Carlson has made headlines this week following a public dispute with Donald Trump regarding allegations of an apology over Carlson's criticism of Trump's handling of Israel's military actions against Iran. Trump claimed that Carlson called to apologize for labeling him “complicit” in a recent newsletter, but in a new interview with the German newspaper Bild, Carlson flatly denied any such phone call ever occurred. He stated, “Okay… no,” and further clarified he didn't believe anything he said to Trump warranted an apology, while also noting he's generally quick to apologize when he feels it's due. Despite the disagreement, Carlson said he still supports Trump politically and would be happy to apologize if he thought it was merited. In the same wide-ranging Bild interview, Carlson sparked controversy by praising Vladimir Putin's leadership, stating that Putin has done “a great job for Russia,” while sharply criticizing Germany's recent political and economic direction. He argued that Germany's current struggles are domestic in origin and not the result of the Ukraine war or Russian actions. These comments have generated significant reaction and debate internationally, particularly among European commentators and political leaders sensitive to Western alignment on Russia. On the business front, there are no recent announcements of major new projects, but Carlson continues to run the Tucker Carlson Network, his digital media platform launched late last year after parting ways with Fox News. The platform has hosted a steady stream of interviews and commentary, often focusing on provocative or contrarian takes that keep him squarely in the public eye. Carlson's network has leaned into the creator-driven media landscape, as industry analysis by WPP Media suggests platforms led by creators like Carlson are rapidly gaining in ad revenue, sometimes outpacing traditional media outlets.Carlson's influence continues to spark a wide spectrum of responses. Within conservative media, he remains a significant, if sometimes polarizing, voice. For instance, his ongoing scrutiny of U.S. foreign policy, aggressive posture toward establishment politics, and willingness to amplify controversial viewpoints have drawn both devoted support and critical pushback, particularly regarding his comments on Russia and the state of U.S.-European relations. Mainstream and liberal commentators frequently highlight Carlson's reporting as an example of the rising tide of populist, nationalist rhetoric reshaping public discourse. In terms of interactions with other public figures, his exchange with Donald Trump has underscored both Carlson's relevance and the at-times complicated relationship between prominent conservative personalities and political leaders. The back and forth not only grabbed headlines in U.S. politics but was dissected widely in international press. Carlson has not shied away from directly challenging or critiquing leaders on his platform, a dynamic that continues to shape debates over the nature of conservative media influence ahead of the 2026 U.S. midterms. No significant legal actions involving Carlson have been reported in the past several days, nor have there been any confirmed professional disputes apart from the Trump disagreement and ongoing media scrutiny. His most recent activities have centered on high-profile interviews and commentary, consistently making him a focus of news coverage and political debate. Thanks for listening to the Tucker Carlson News Tracker podcast. “Our job is to recycle so that we can recover all of that scrap and goods that you and I are recycling in our garbage bins every week or recycling as we get new cars. And our job is to recover that because we make steel in a very clean and efficient process through what's called an electric arc furnace. So, we take all of that scrap, we melt it down, and we make new steel. It does not degrade. It has a continuous reusable life.…Depending on the different products of steel, that actually determines the recycled content that goes into them for the finishes and the quality of the steel that's needed.” Tabitha Stine on Electric Ladies Podcast With tariffs on steel and the Nippon Steel-U.S. Steel merger back in the news, we wanted to replay this important conversation on the impact of steel on the environment and how “recycled steel” works. “The production and use of materials such as cement, steel, and aluminum have a significant carbon footprint,” according to the UN, with construction 37% of emissions. But is recycled steel safe? Listen to Tabitha Stine, General Manager of Energy Solutions and Services at Nucor Corporation, which says it's “North America's largest steel manufacturer and recycler.” She'll explain how recycled steel is made and more in this fascinating conversation with Electric Ladies host Joan Michelson. They also share insightful career advice. You'll hear about: How recycled steel is made and where the steel comes from that is recycled. How structurally sound recycled steel is and how it's tested to make sure and meet building codes. Which industries use recycled steel, why, and how the demand and supply line up. How the steel industry is adapting to ensure automobiles and buildings are resilient to the ravages of climate change, including innovations in the works. Plus, insightful career advice, such as… “Usually what holds people back is, people are not willing to raise their hand. And then you go 10 years and you haven't had guidance because maybe you have a manager that doesn't give you feedback. You have to advocate for yourself. You are your advocate. There are no others. You've got to assume nobody else will except for yourself and you go for it. And I would also stress that if you're also not mentoring others at every stage along your career, you're missing out on a big opportunity,” Tabitha Stine on Electric Ladies Podcast Read Joan's Forbes articles here. Southeastern 16's Chris Lee and Jay Greeson preview the South Carolina Gamecocks for the 2025 season. Topics include: LaNorris Sellers was so outstanding in the second half that he's now considered a future NFL first-rounder. The Gamecocks' hopes revolve around one of the NCAA's fastest-rising stars. The Gamecocks need mega-talent Nyck Harbor to step up. South Carolina has a very experienced offensive line, including some off-season transfer additions. Mainstream expectation is that the defense will take a step back, but Dylan Stewart is one of the country's top defenders and coach Shane Beamer has done an outstanding job of developing defensive talent recently. Carolina has a special-teams rebuild, but that's an area where Beamer excels. Mason Love will be the rare kicker-punter leading the way.

The Jeffrey Epstein news cycle is here to stay. And that's increasingly frustrating President Donald Trump, who has grown accustomed to being able to exert control over the news cycle for much of the past decade. There's a policy side to this, of course, as a number of prominent Republicans and MAGA figures are calling for a special counsel to investigate the files and the DOJ's handling of them. But there's also a pop cultural aspect to this, as the story has spilled over into the zeitgeist. Contributing author Adam Wren and chief Playbook correspondent Dasha Burns discuss how we got here and what comes next.
Future Proof, which holds one of the industry's largest wealth conferences, invited me to hold a live podcast earlier this year with Blue Owl Co-President and Global Head of Real Assets Marc Zahr. Marc is a pioneer in the real estate space, building Blue Owl into a market leader in the triple net lease strategy, a commercial real estate investment strategy that is becoming increasingly popular for real estate investors, tenants (think large corporates like Amazon, Walgreens, Dollar General), and investors alike.Blue Owl's Real Assets business has over $67.1B AUM, owning over 5,600 assets and partnering with over 800 tenants. Marc founded Oak Street, the predecessor firm to Blue Owl, in 2009 with $17M AUM. Listening to Marc talk about the evolution of his career, building Oak Street, and running Blue Owl's Real Assets platform, it's no surprise to see why Marc and the firm have had success. His “myopic focus … perfecting his craft,” as he discussed in our conversation, his clarity of vision, and his ability to so clearly articulate his investment strategy and market opportunity have led to tremendous success for Oak Street, and now, Blue Owl.Marc and I had a fascinating and thought-provoking discussion that covered everything from the evolution of his firm, how and why he sold Oak Street to Blue Owl, the market opportunity in triple net lease real estate investing, why data center investing is a large market opportunity, how to build a high-performing investment culture, and much more.We discussed:The story of how Marc built Oak Street from a $17M real estate investment firm and grew it into Blue Owl's $67B AUM Real Assets platform.Breaking down the triple net lease real estate investment strategy. Why the industry “isn't even in the first inning” in the $20T addressable market in triple net lease real estate investing. Why data centers are a “once in a generation opportunity” due to capex supply / demand imbalance. How a bigger platform can help an asset manager scale its business. Why an evergreen structure can make sense and the story of how Blue Owl did so well with its triple net lease product on a private wealth platform that the private bank created their own product. The hardest part of educating the wealth channel on real estate and evergreen structures. Why private wealth is the biggest opportunity in the future. The advice Marc would give to someone trying to build the next great asset manager. Thanks Marc for sharing your wisdom, expertise, and thoughtful and nuanced perspectives on private markets and real estate.

Hey everyone, James Scully here, producer and host of Breaking Walls, the docu-podcast on the history of US Network Radio Broadcasting. I wanted to let you know about a new webinar I'm doing this Thursday July 17th, at 7PM on Orson Welles' early career of Orson Welles through the end of 1941. If you can't make it live this Thursday July 17th at 7PM, don't worry, I'll be emailing every person who registers a video of the webinar once it's over. Here's a link to register: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/orson-welles-career-part-1-from-boy-wonder-to-trouble-maker-webinar-tickets-1445315741289?aff=oddtdtcreator Some more information: Throughout the last one-hundred years of American entertainment, few people have gotten as strong a reaction as Orson Welles. A rare quadruple threat: writer, director, actor, producer, Welles found immense success on stage, in films, on television, and in radio. In fact, he took center stage in the United States on more than one occasion… and not always to a positive reaction, but always with pushing the creative envelope in mind. Welles managed to alienate the newspaper industry, the Hollywood studio system, and occasionally even the broadcasting networks, but he rarely had a door closed in his face. Welles was known to work himself to the bone, and party even harder. He had romances with some of the most famous and attractive women in the country, including Virginia Nicholson, Dolores del Rio, and Rita Hayworth. He was hailed as a genius, a charlatan, a magician, an incredible friend, an a***hole, a hard-driver, a steady worker, and a man who drank too much. Welles liked to joke that he began his career on top and spent the rest of his life working his way down. Such a strong-willed, creative person deserves an in-depth look. In Part 1: From Boy Wonder To Trouble Maker (1931-1941) we'll explore Welles' early life, through his explosion of success in the 1930s all the way to the end of 1941, complete with audio clips and highlights including: • Beginnings in Illinois and China — How they helped shape Orson • The Todd Seminary School — His first exposure to theater and Radio • Connections and Early Breaks — How his mentor Roger Hill, Thornton Wilder, Alexander Woollcott, and Katharine Cornell helped Orson get to Broadway • Orson meets John Houseman and Archibald MacLeish, and first appears on the March of Time • 1935-1937 — From the March of Time to the Columbia Workshop, and how Irvin Reis taught Orson how to create for radio • How the US Government shaped the opportunity for Orson to write, direct, and star in Les Misérables on the Mutual Broadcasting System in 1937 • The Shadow Knows! — Agnes Moorehead and Orson Welles' one season on The Shadow • The birth of the Mercury Theater on the Air as First Person singular. How its success led to the most infamous night in radio in October of 1938 • Mainstream success with Campbell's Soups • Orson goes to Hollywood, and signs the greatest autonomous film contract in history at 24 • Citizen Kane — How William Randolph Hearst and RKO shaped the film • Lady Esther Presents — Orson comes back to radio in the autumn of 1941 • Pearl Harbor Day and collaborating with Norman Corwin • How Joseph Cotton introduced Orson to Rita Hayworth Afterward, I'll do a Q&A — any and all questions are welcomed and encouraged! Can't attend live? Not to worry! I'll be recording the event and sending the video out to all guests who register so you can watch it later. See you (virtually) there!

With the last major holiday celebration of summer out of the way (no one really decorates for Labor Day), retailers are now fully embracing the "Summerween" season, stocking Halloween-themed products earlier than ever before. As reported in last month's newsletters, stores like Michaels, Target, and Lowe's took advantage of Friday, June 13th, to begin to release their spooky items. Now, even more stores are pushing the Halloween season forward into summer. Read more here.

Economy 43% of Americans Near Poverty Place Essential Purchases on Credit The PYMNTS Intelligence report “Financial Lifestyles Shape Credit Reliance” revealed that American consumers are struggling to afford the basic essentials. The study found that 43% of American households who are a paycheck away from poverty cannot afford the essentials without using credit. The report surveyed 2,298 consumers and categorized them into three financial brackets: those who do not live paycheck to paycheck, those who live paycheck to paycheck comfortably, and those who live paycheck to paycheck and struggle to pay bills. The 43% of households living paycheck to paycheck with difficulties are eight times more likely to depend on credit cards for the essentials. This group was also six times as likely to rely on credit cards for non-essential purchases. Consumers in this category are placing 41% of all essential purchases on credit and sinking deeper into debt. Around 56% of Americans who do not live paycheck to paycheck are also purchasing essentials with credit, albeit many are using credit cards for points and incentives offered through their credit agencies. Struggling households are far more likely to rely on personal or payday loans, with 31% reporting taking out a loan for the essentials. As we've been examining over the course of Country Week, country music has found a larger audience, in part by widening its sonic palette. For the final episode of this series, we take a look at a genre on the outskirts of country – Americana music – and how it's being used to connect to the scene's musical roots. Historically, Americana has embraced an acoustic sound, traditional repertoire, and an appetite for virtuosic technique. In bluegrass artists like Billy Strings and roots musicians like Sierra Ferrell, Nate and Charlie see if there's an antidote to be found for the issues that plague modern, mainstream country music. Songs discussed: The Punch Brothers – Rye Whiskey Sierra Ferrell – In Dreams Dolly Parton – Jolene Sierra Ferrell – I Could Drive You Crazy Sierra Ferrell, Zach Bryan – Holy Roller Billy Strings – Dust in a Baggie Billy Strings, Willie Nelson – California Sober Tyler Childers – In Your Love Tyler Childers – Phone Calls and Emails Tyler Childers – Rustin' In The Rain Don Gibson – Oh, Lonesome Me Waylon Jennings, Willie Nelson – Mamas, Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys The Chicks – Long Time Gone The Steeldrivers – Higher Than the Wall Beyoncé – Texas Hold'em I'm With Her – Espresso Learn more about your ad choices.
