[originally published on Patreon May 14, 2023] Today I'm joined by John Brisson of We've Read the Documents (@weve_read) to discuss one of the most notorious groups in parapolitical history: the Finders. To understand the events of 1987, we need to understand Marion Pettie, his milieu, and ultimately his network. Brisson walked me through his exceptional work digging up that information. We begin with a high level overview of the group and then drill down into Pettie's early life, anomalous military career, and strange rise to prominence in the counterculture. From there, we discuss Barbara Marx Hubbard and the World Future Society generally. All of this contributes to a more robust understanding of the events of 1987. Are we at a turning point in our evolution? Through crisis, transformation can occur. Quantum transformation is nature's tradition, according to our guest today, visionary futurist Barbara Marx Hubbard who discusses her video series called “Humanity Ascending: A New Way Through Together.” Barbara discusses the meaning of Divine Intent and possibilities. When we see things not working, such as destruction of ourselves and our planet, we must know that it is possible to transform. We are destroying thousands of species, and this sets the evolutionary scale back, but Planet Earth is giving birth to a new species through this crisis. Thousands of people are now emerging with a creative consciousness. It is now possible to address challenges by shifting consciousness through focusing on cooperation, creativity, and sustainability. We can evolve beyond this condition through more conscious connectivity with each other. We can co-create new systems. Society will be restructured. It's deep within human nature to want to dominate, but Barbara believes that a New Human is emerging. There's a new pattern of social organization that is more synergistic and cooperative. Each of us carries within an image of something we haven't fully seen – very similar to the imaginal cells which aid the transformation of a caterpillar into a butterfly. Each person has a higher intelligence, and we can tune in to these higher frequencies. Barbara also talks about inspired politics and how the New Politics relate to the New Person. This can be a time of an uprising of the spirit of impulse and creativity. If you feel the desire to express more, affirm it as good, then reach out to others. Express your desire to create until you can find a team. She also talks about being 15 years old and seeing the atomic bomb. That started her on her quest for understanding and the study of world religions. The meaning of our power is to gain consciousness and expand evolution. We must connect conscious humans and their projects and determine what is working. Evolution is the expression of universal intelligence. Barbara has been called “the voice for conscious evolution of our time” by Dr. Deepak Chopra and is the subject of Neale Donald Walsch's book “The Mother of Invention.” A world-renowned visionary futurist, evolutionary educator, and inspiring speaker, Barbara is the author of six acclaimed books that communicate the new worldview of conscious evolution. She is the co-founder and chair of the Foundation for Conscious Evolution, and additionally co-founded many progressive organizations, including The Association for Global New Thought, and The World Future Society. Barbara's latest book at the time of this interview is “Birth 2012 and Beyond: Humanity's Great Shift to the Age of Conscious Evolution.” Info: barbaramarxhubbard.com.

For the Summer of 2023, a dozen futurists talk about what life will be like for humans in 30 to 50 years. Each guest is asked to paint a picture of the changes that we will experience between now and 2053 or 2073. Then they are asked what mistakes we are making today that the people of 2073 will look back at in disbelief. The goal of these episodes is to spark the imagination of listeners about the future we have the ability to create. In this episode, futurist Sohail Inayatullah paints a picture of life in 2073. He describes a peer-to-peer economy moving at lightning speeds that will lead to incredible abundance. He talks about nation states giving way to bio-regions and cultural regions. He shares examples of how leaders in Abu Dhabi and New Zealand are thinking about and designing their futures. Sohail finishes the conversation with his thoughts on what we are doing today that the humans of 2073 will look back at in disbelief.Dr. Sohail Inayatullah, a political scientist, is Professor at Tamkang University, Taipei (Graduate Institute of Futures Studies), Visiting Academic/Research Associate at Queensland University of Technology (Centre for Social Change Research); Adjunct Professor at the University of the Sunshine Coast (Faculty of Social Sciences and the Arts); and, Associate, Transcend Peace University. Alvin Toffler coined the phrase "electronic cottage" in the 80's. Futurist Frank Ogden carried the concept further. From his high-tech houseboat in Vancouver harbour, he is wired to the world by computer, phone, cable and phone modems, satellite, infra-red transmissions and CD-ROMs. The Financial Post describes Frank as a "20th Century visionary" and calls his ideas "outrageous", an ideal combination of qualities for a life of profitable nonconformity. From Papua New Guinea to the high-tech jungles of silicon, satellites and photons, Frank has a reputation for innovation and originality. In 1979, he began monitoring 200 satellites and 2,000 data banks, to provide a video clipping service for forward thinkers wanting information on new and relevant business developments. Now Ogden circles the globe as consultant to companies and countries, preparing people to trek along the fast track. "A bulldozer of change is charging over the planet," he says. "And if you're not part of the bulldozer, you'll become part of the road." Born in 1920, Ogden was educated in Canada and the United States and served as a flight engineer during World War II. Unflaggingly energetic and curious, he graduated to a dizzying array of jobs flying airplanes and helicopters and selling aircraft (He is currently checked out as Pilot-In-Command in 55 different flying machines), real estate and housewares. During the 1960s, he joined a medical team researching LSD at Hollywood Hospital, and he crossed Canada by helicopter to celebrate the country's centennial. He also helped found Canada's first think-tank, taught at the Ontario College of Art and the New England School of Art in Boston, and managed a Montreal radio station, leading it boldly into progressive rock. He was also a founding member of the World Future Society in Canada. While studying voodoo in Haiti and establishing a think-tank for the Prime Minister of the Bahamas, Ogden recognized the link that exists between primitive thinking and high tech. "Everything in life is information. So-called primitive cultures have known this for thousands of years," he explains. "Voodoo priests get their information through a hierarchy of gods; we get ours through a hierarchy of technology." Such concepts as these have made Frank a celebrity speaker on the conference circuit, where he outlines the electronic and information revolutions of the current and coming decades. Frank suggests a future of teleports, limited labour unions, as more people become self-employed, and body implants to make cyborgs of us all. Alan Hald is an inspiring and successful futurist. He co-founded and served as chairman and president of Micro Age, which he helped grow into a multi-billion dollar Fortune 500 company. He has an MBA from Harvard, with an emphasis in entrepreneurship, and he is the founder and manager of American Law Firm Funding. More than two decades ago, Alan was one of my advisors when I was a 25-year-old CEO of a publicly-traded SaaS company. In today's episode, we are going to discuss Alan's entrepreneurial journey and how he found success through identifying business tectonic shifts. Alan's Entrepreneurial Journey When Alan was newly married, he could not get a job for six months, so he and a friend followed their passion for future studies and started the Phoenix Chapter of The World Future Society in 1973. “The idea of passion is a strong motivator and extremely important to being effective and successful in business,” Alan said. “The key thing to me is to identify something you do have passion for.” While Alan had a passion for futurism, he realized he also had to look for patterns in the marketplace if he wanted to prepare for his future as an entrepreneur and earn a living. “You really have to look at underlying patterns that might give you a hint as to how the world is changing and how new opportunities because of that might be created. In other words, you must change the way you look at the world by identifying patterns and then project those patterns into the future,” Alan said. In the early seventies, Alan watched the market and identified several patterns relating to social behaviors and technology creating unique emergent needs and capabilities which, as they converged in the near future, foresaw a business tectonic shift. The first pattern he noticed was the coming of age of baby boomers. This generational shift meant more people that were growth-oriented individuals were entering the workplace. Baby boomers wanted to work with others in society and were very involved in communication. That led Alan to notice the second shift of microelectronics. He did not quite know what it meant yet, but he knew microelectronics was changing everything. Alan saw the emergence of new, personalized communications capabilities enabling many-to-many communications which later became social media and near-instantaneous access to all information which he called the playground of information; today it is called Wikipedia. The enabling pattern catching his attention was the microtechnology revolution and the 1975 introduction of the personal microcomputer kit. It was a eureka moment, the dawning of the computer revolution and the information age, the birth of a new market, a tectonic shift that would transform the economy and society unlike any other. Alan made a commitment to engage with those shifts and started a computer store with a business partner in 1976, the first computer store in Arizona called the Byte Shop, which became Micro Age. It grew 10 fold over the next three years, stumbled in the 1980-81 recession, recovered by 1983, and nearly doubled in size each year for nine years breaking $1 billion in 1992, which ultimately became a $6 billion company with 6,000 employees when Alan left the company in 1999. As entrepreneurs, we can follow a similar path as Alan. We can identify our passions and motivators, look for emerging patterns, and apply our current knowledge and skills to a new industry or opportunity. Find Motivators Many times, we may hesitate to act on our ideas because we feel we have no resources, but really, we are lacking motivation and passion. “[Entrepreneurship] is not a resource-constrained activity. It's a motivation constrained opportunity,” Alan said. “You may feel you can see an opportunity you know you can engage in, but if you don't have the motivation to actually take action, it's [just] an idea, and 20 years from now you will regret having never done it.” What propels us to act on our ideas? Alan explained that passion is one of the greatest motivators. If we are passionate about our businesses and enjoy working every day, we will be more likely to pursue an idea and take advantage of an opportunity. Instead of pursuing something we hate, we should strive for opportunities we are passionate about. We do not need a lot of resources to make an idea successful. For example, Steve Jobs started Apple by building the first computer in his bedroom and garage. “[Success] doesn't require a lot of resources. It requires a lot of motivation, and the ability to address failure and view it as an opportunity to succeed,” Alan said. For Alan, his motivation was his passion for involvement in dramatic business shifts and his desire to make a change in society. For others, their motivation could be providing for a family, a desire to innovate, to help others; Whatever the case, we need to find something that motivates us to act. Without action, our ideas will only remain ideas. Identify Emerging Patterns and Shifts We should reexamine the world and see if we can find emerging trends and patterns around us that could create new tectonic shift opportunities, large or small, provided the endeavor can be self-sustaining as the market develops. Alan created a billion-dollar company because he was able to identify and leverage patterns and tectonic shifts in the marketplace. He noticed the coming of age of baby boomers, a generational shift, and the trend towards microelectronics. Based on these two shifts, Alan took his background in business and started a computer store that eventually became a $6 billion company. I did something very similar with Adoption.com. I had some background with adoption, and then the Internet came out. I saw a tectonic shift that could help my business community if I put the two things together. I found a way to take the internet and leverage it to help the adoption community. When we are looking for tectonic shifts, we can take something that is transforming a different industry, and find a way to leverage that same shift to transform our industry. The first step to identifying tectonic shifts is to consistently look for them. How do we change our mindsets so we can recognize them? The patterns are there, but it's all about how we perceive the changes. The trick is to step out of our box and look at things differently. One of the key ways to find these tectonic shifts is to look at failures, problems, or challenges, and then flip them on their head and find the opportunity that exists in those challenges by finding and creating a solution. We do not need to find a shift that is earth-shattering and world-changing, but it needs to cause large transformations. We can ask ourselves, “Is there a need that isn't being met?” This could be a current need or an anticipated need. It should impact a group of people, or even better, an entire industry. Once we recognize the needs, we need to do the research to understand them and find a solution we can offer. Apply Current Skills to New Projects After we identify the shifts happening in the marketplace, we must act. “Once you see [patterns] you're going to have to evaluate them in some way, but don't be discouraged if you think you don't have the skills or the experience or the understanding,” Alan said. “What you know now can be completely applied to something new in the future, if you only spend some time to understand how that works. Once you understand how something works, all kinds of traditional skills, experience, understanding, and knowledge can be reapplied to emerging future activities.” Even though Alan knew nothing about computers or electronic kits, he used his passion and vision to drive him forward to act and pursue an idea he was not 100% sure about. Instead of sitting on his idea, he started to figure out how he could use his current knowledge to help him. “I really knew nothing about computers. I knew nothing about building computers, but I was excited about it, so I was open to learning,” Alan said. “I didn't really have to create new skills. I had the skills ready; I just had to reapply it to how things were changing.” Alan took the knowledge and skills he developed in growing a business and applied it to a new emerging industry to help propel him towards success. Key Takeaways Thank you so much Alan for sharing your stories and insights with us today. Here are some of my key takeaways from this episode: Sometimes we may hesitate to act on our ideas because we feel we are lacking resources, but really we are probably lacking motivation and passion. Passion is one of the greatest motivators. If we are passionate about our businesses we will be more likely to pursue an idea and take advantage of an opportunity. We should look for underlying patterns and business tectonic shifts in the world and other industries that might give us a hint as to how the world is changing. One of the key ways to find these tectonic shifts is to look at the biggest failures, problems, and challenges, and then create a better solution. We can take our current knowledge and skills and apply them to a new emerging industry to help propel us towards success. Dr. Amy Zalman is the former CEO and president of the World Future Society. While she was there, she repositioned the World Future Society for renewed future global impact — helping a transformational organization transform itself. She’s also the founder of Oryx Communications and chair of information integration at the National War College, where she’s introduced new ways of understanding information to future senior leaders so they can better inform their perspectives on the ways the world is changing — not just technologically, but also culturally and geopolitically. She’s currently the founder of Prescient, a foresight consultancy that helps leaders and companies anticipate new opportunities, markets and threats before the competition does. In Prescient’s words, “Our clients manage the future by creating it.” Amy Zalman talks about anticipation: Is it a skill, a mindset, or a bit of both? How does it differ from critical and strategic thinking? How can we tell if we’re moving fast enough? And how should we start reimagining this profession going forward? It’s a fascinating and essential conversation with one of the world’s true deep thinkers in this space.

Audiences praise him because "he shakes people up and gets us thinking about the future!" - www.drtomorrow.com
Thank A Wounded Vet & Save an Injured Pet - In the spring of 1992, a Maine Coon stray cat visited Bob Harvey and changed his life forever. Though firmly rooted in his middle-years, he had never had a pet before, ever. The homeless feline adopted Harvey and he named the cat You Too. Little did Harvey know that this new-found love for animals would ultimately lead to a career as an author. You Too turned Harvey into an animal welfare advocate which led to the adoption of more strays, the investment in Tailwaggers Pet Sitting Service, and part-time volunteer foster care for a blind cat. In 2004 he accepted early retirement from the award-winning international firm he helped launch when he received the devastating news that his best friend of 10 years, a rescued Shepherd-wolf named Bravo, had cancer. Harvey took on the full-time job as Bravo's homeopathic caregiver. The time Harvey dedicated to Bravo's final year of life sparked an interest to share his fascination with pet cohabitation and animal sense perception. The experience birthed Catalyst, Harvey's first novel in the Me & You Too series, which follows the tale of a stray cat and a neighborhood of town-home tenants whose fates intertwine after their community is destroyed by a mysterious fire. The reluctant heroes join forces to create the first eco-Homestead where 'No People Are Allowed Without Pets'.Catalyst breaks new ground in illustrative storytelling as the first full-color novel produced in Harvey's trademarked KaleidoScript™ format. With colorized words, energized multi-font text, and 62 unique chapter-specific background images, Harvey's pioneering presentation engages the imagination while enhancing the reading experience. After graduating from the University Of Bridgeport in Connecticut, Bob Harvey traveled extensively around the world as a line builder/designer for U.S. fashion importers. His wide universe of contacts and entrepreneurial spirit evolved into numerous enterprises culminating in his participation in Austin-based Calendar Club, a company he helped launch in 1993 that became a multi-concept chain of over 1,000 seasonal retail shops. Harvey has a degree in graphic design, a unique hobby of designing interpretive Native American artifacts, and an endless love for the great outdoors. His affinity for nature has sent him on sailing excursions from the Caribbean to the Galapagos Islands as well as on photographic safaris to Africa and the Amazon. He is a member of the Humane Society, the World Future Society, and active in the Writers' League of Texas. He is now working on the second book in the Me & You Too series, Dogma, while surrounded by adopted strays at his Texas Hill Country home. Harvey is also the founder of the "Thank a Wounded Vet & Save an Injured Pet" Donation Program

This latest installment of Boardroom Hustle is a must-listen, featuring your host, Paul Smith, interviewing Marianne Cooper, PhD. Marianne is a hugely influential woman and an absolute powerhouse of information, and it was an absolute honour to have her on the show. Marianne is a sociologist at Stanford University, and was the lead researcher for Sheryl Sanberg’s incredible book Lean In: Women, Work and the Will to Lead. She’s also an author, a contributing writer to various news outlets like The Atlantic, and an all-round expert on gender, women’s leadership, diversity, inclusion and economic inequality. Marianne isn’t afraid of answering the hard questions. And in this episode, Paul serves her with some big ones. They discuss things like: What is Marianne observing about inequality during the COVID19 pandemic, that she hasn’t seen before? The high level of inequality on a global scale, and how COVID19 acted as the kindling that dragged these inequalities out on the global stage What’s caused the obvious lack of much-needed infrastructure surrounding healthcare and women’s rights? How will this pandemic affect the mental health of not just us, but our children as well? The devastating circumstances of domestic violence and family abuse that quarantine has forced many women and children to experience on a chronic level – all around the world What is Marianne’s hypothesis about what comes after this? Will we eventually slip back into our old ways and return to the status quo, or will we take this rare opportunity to advance to the next phase and level up as a society? And, perhaps most importantly, what role will the corporation play after this pandemic? Marianne encourages everyone to be their biggest, best, boldest selves. And after listening to this episode, you’ll be feeling that way too. Boardroom Hustle is back! After over a year of hiatus, we’re back and better than ever. We’ve got some amazing episodes in the pipeline, with guests that will provide you with wise insights, inspirational encouragement, and the answers to some incredibly profound questions. So if you’re a conscious leader, aspiring or experienced board director, seeking to become more influential, or just plain crazy about all things board governance, then hit the subscribe button to make sure you’re one of the first to hear the latest installments. Our first episode kicks off with a bang, with host Paul Smith chatting across the Pacific with guest, good friend and host of his own podcast (Boardroom Bound), Alexander Lowry. Alex is a Professor of Finance who also acts as a Board Member and Advisor for various fintech and financial services companies. He holds a unique perspective of what makes for the best board practice, is truly a fountain of information and inspiration! Alex has been in the boardroom for decades now, and has been through a wealth of different experiences during that time. In this episode, Alex shares what got him into governance, and the big realisation he had that led him to it. Alex and Paul also get into topics like: The difficulties people have getting into big-time board roles – especially if it’s early days in their professional career Why is it more typical for younger people to head down the NFP track? Learning to think about things on every level, plus how to challenge that thinking AND other people Throughout his years of experience, who has Alex recognised to be the most helpful person in any boardroom? How to think about what’s coming ahead and using foresight wherever possible The benefits of having both a fresh perspective and a mentor The fine line that boards need to balance on, juggling healthy scepticism with an encouraging culture Why trust is the currency of the boardroom, and how you can promote more of it The one big issue with how board roles have (usually) been filled in the past That growing sense of diversity on a governance level, and why it’s just so important How to stop being reactive and start being proactive instead And, perhaps most interestingly, what will the world look like post COVID19? Hubbard inspires us with a vision of possibility as we move into a new era of conscious evolution. She says we are at a choice point, and describes a tipping point of people who are collectively becoming excited by the changes. By joining together in small groups we are connecting up our creativity and our genius, which can ultimately lead us to a life-sustaining planet. She says, “Small fluctuations in a sea of social chaos can jump the system to a higher order.” She goes on to describe how we could connect with one another in a celebration of a global birthday party on December 22, 2012. With emerging technologies constantly in development, the face of business is ever-changing. Understanding that is critical to your business’ future. Amazon’s executive team lives in the future, you need to live there too. If you only live in the present, your business is at risk! Horses gave way to gas-powered vehicles, then to electric cars, travel agents became Kayak, taxis became Uber, Sears became Amazon, CDs became Spotify, paper books became Kindle. What will your business become if you don’t dive into the future now?Dr. Michael Petty is currently a member of the World Future Society and The Association of Professional Futurists. My guest this week has 25 years as a technology entrepreneur and venture capitalist. Nowadays he also advises large corporations, the European Commissions and various non-profits. He’s a founder, a funder and a futurist. For me he’s an interpreter of trends and we find out all sorts of amazing things that are going to be happening in our future and that are happening already plus we get to meet Ripley! Please enjoy, Nicklas Bergman. Bio Nicklas Bergman has spent the last 25 years working as an entrepreneur and technology investor, mostly focusing on investments and business development in emerging markets, IT, instrumentation, nanotechnology, computing, new materials and new media art, currently through more than 10 direct and indirect investments. Nicklas is the strategic advisor to European Commissioner Carlos Moedas and the European Innovation Council, working on a new innovation strategy for Europe. He is also Scandinavian representative of the TechCast Technology Think Tank in Washington and member of both the World Future Society and the Long Now Foundation. Nicklas is a futurist and is optimistic about the promises emerging from new technologies but is equally concerned that society isn’t ready for the upcoming techstorm. We’re entering an era in which technology will redefine who we are, and it’s no longer a question of what it can do for us, but what we should allow technology to do. Technology in itself is pointless, it’s the applications and ability to improve people’s lives that’s important. Digitisation is highly relevant but only the warm-up. True disruption will come from a combination of new digital technologies such as AI, blockchain and the Internet of Things in combination with a deeper understanding of nanotechnology, neuro technology as well as biotechnology and genetics. In a couple of decades, this will create a world that’s totally different from the one we’re living in today… In 2016 Bergman published a book on how to deal with new technologies from a business perspective: Surviving the Tech Storm – Strategy in Times of Technological Uncertainty. With the conviction that technology is probably the strongest driver of change today, it’s obvious that anyone in a management position, or aspirations to eventually be in that position, must understand how technology is changing business from the ground up. Nicklas Bergman is also part of Nordic Ways, the 2016 project at the SAIS Center for Transatlantic Relations at Johns Hopkins University in Washington D.C., USA. The final result is a compilation of essays on how Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden are facing economic and social challenges through what has been known as the “Nordic Model”. Authored by people from the Nordic countries with backgrounds in politics, academia, design, arts, business, technology, and civil society, the book was released in the US in October 2016. Nicklas is co-founder and investor in several companies including the Volvo trucks and buses distribution network in Romania, that grew into a E300 million business and was acquired by Volvo in 2006, and an electron microscopy company with a unique patented technology for movement and interaction on the atomic scale. With close to 150 high-profile customers in more than 30 countries worldwide, the technology was acquired by FEI in 2013. Nicklas Bergman’s keynotes are technology and innovation focussed, sometimes with a specific industry perspective and based on his 25 years as an entrepreneur and start up investor. As a futurist, Nicklas is not telling you what will happen, he is observing, providing tools, drawing conclusions and changing mindsets. Today's Flash Back Friday comes from Episode 109, originally published in October 2012. Author and businesswoman, Elaine Smitha joins Jason Hartman to talk about her book, Screwing Mother Nature for Profit: How Corporations Betray Our Trust – And Why the New Biology Offers an Ethical and Sustainable Future. Elaine shares her experience with the natives in Papua, New Guinea, that are affected by pollution from mining companies, which led to the writing of her book. She turned to Mother Nature herself to find solutions for sustainable growth and cleaner air and water. Elaine feels that the start to solving these problems begins with individual consciousness, awareness, and restoring a sense of community. Elaine Smitha is a Drake University graduate and mother of four. In 1969, to expand the influence of art in the community, she created, organized and chaired the first Fine Arts Week in West Des Moines, Iowa, which today is still celebrated. Forty countries include the UK, Middle East, North Africa, Far East and South America, tracing the evolution of humanity 10,000 years from Papua New Guinea to China. As author of the self-healing handbook, If You Make the Rules, How Come You're Not Boss? Minding Your Body's Business (Hampton Roads, 2003), with foreword by Bruce H. Are there methods or a framework that can help us to have meaningful conversations about where we want to go as a country and as a global civilization? The concepts that we build our society on over the last 250 years are needing to shift as we face new challenges and environmental collapse. In 1945 the United States dropped atomic bombs on Japan, and the world caught its breath. This pivotal event deeply impacted the young Barbara Marx Hubbard, who found herself asking President Eisenhower, "What is the meaning of our power that is good"? Barbara's 40+ year inquiry, and the answers she has found, offer invaluable assistance to us all at this time in our history. Despite the state of the world, we are truly on the threshold of great possibility, of our own conscious evolution. In this inspirational conversation, Barbara and I discuss the revised and updated edition of Conscious Evolution: Awakening the Power of Our Social Potential (New World Library), her seminal book first published in 1998, which laid the foundation for the significance and impact around the world of the idea of conscious evolution. About: Barbara Marx Hubbard has been called "the voice for conscious evolution..." by Deepak Chopra. She is the subject of Neale Donald Walsch’s book The Mother of Invention. And many would agree she is the global ambassador for conscious change. At her heart, Barbara Marx Hubbard is a visionary, a social innovator. She is an evolutionary thinker who believes that global change happens when we work collectively and selflessly for the greater good. She realizes that the lessons of evolution teach us that problems are evolutionary drivers, and crises precede transformation, giving a new way of seeing and responding to our global situation. As a prolific author and educator, Barbara has written seven books on social and planetary evolution. She has produced, hosted, and contributed to countless documentaries seen by millions of people around the world. In conjunction with the Shift Network, Barbara co-produced the worldwide "Birth 2012" multi-media event that was seen as a historic turning point in exposing the social, spiritual, scientific, and technological potential in humanity. In 1984 her name was placed in nomination for the Vice Presidency of the United States on the Democratic ticket, calling for a "Peace Room" to scan for, map, connect and communicate what is working in America and the world. She also co-chaired a number of Soviet-American Citizen Summits, introducing a new concept called "SYNCON" to foster synergistic convergence with opposing groups. In addition she co-founded the World Future Society, and the Association for Global New Thought. Barbara Marx Hubbard is not an idealist, nor does she believe that social and planetary change is simple. But she does believe that humanity has the tools, fortitude, and resolve to take the leap towards conscious evolution. To learn more about Barbara and her work, visit: http://evolve.org.
Gray Scott's mission is to bring the concerns of the future to the public - and with recent coverage in Psychology Today, New York Post, and the World Future Society, he's picking up steam. In this interview, Gray and I discuss the most important societal shifts that he believes are opening up our generation and culture to take issues like life extension and brain-machine interface. We discuss how modern skepticism of religious dogma plays a role in the social shift towards transhumanism.
Are you ready for the new paradigm? Elliott Maynard, Ph.D., a brilliant neo-renaissance consciousness scientist, gives us a glimpse of the astonishing reality emerging, as revealed in his new book Brave New Mind: Living in a Future-Science World. A conceptual designer and visionary, Dr. Maynard has researched and developed 25 keys to personal and planetary evolution, making the quantum field accessible to everyone seeking expanded consciousness and lives of personal fulfillment and enlightenment. Dr. Maynard believes the integration of traditional science with consciousness technology can unlock the quantum solutions we need to finally shift beyond the global problems we face on Planet Earth. He invites us to transcend a reactive, revolutionary mindset and embrace an interactive, "re-evolutionary" state of being, unfolding quantum transformation on this planet and in our personal lives. With a Ph.D. in Consciousness Research, Dr. Maynard's beautifully diverse background encompasses advanced graduate work in global ecology and oceanography, serving on the faculties of Adelphi University and Dowling College. A certified managerial consultant, he has held top leadership roles in multiple corporations, currently Founder and President of the Arcos Cielos Foundation. He is active in the Aerospace Technology Working Group, the Humanitad International Leadership Foundation, The U.S. Psychotronics Association, the World Future Society and the Kepler Institute for Space Philosophy. Brave New Mind: Living in a Future Science World with Elliot Maynard Elliott Maynard believes his new master paradigm [Future Science Technology] is the quantum-field science for the future. He is convinced that integrating traditional, linear science with non-linear consciousness technology will yield new breakthrough solutions for the global problems we face as citizens of Planet Earth. Future Science Technology is a unique system which supports the development of a new and superior human mind - a master paradigm containing 25 keys to personal and planetary enlightenment. To this end, Dr. Maynard has invented an entirely new paradigm format, which - unlike linear paradigms of the past - is flexible, evolvable and timeless. He calls his living paradigms “enlightened pathways into the future.” Although he admits that opening Pandora's Box entails accepting responsibility for dealing with the gifts inside, and that any pioneering effort will have its share of detractors and unintended consequences, he quips, “Even the turtle will not get ahead unless he sticks his neck out.” Elliott Maynard is a leading-edge consciousness scientist and conceptual designer. His background spans the fields of Zoology, Coral Reef Ecology, Oceanography and Tropical Rainforest Biology. He earned his Ph.D. in Consciousness Research and served on the faculties of Adelphi University and Dowling College in New York. He is also a Certified Professional Consultant to Management (CPCM). Dr. Maynard is Founder and President of Arcos Cielos Foundation in Sedona, Arizona and has been active with the World Future Society, the Aerospace Technology Working Group (ATWG) and the London-based Humanitad International. Hank Pellissier--[Part 4]--(writer, editor, speaker, producer, futurist and transhumanist). Topics: Human Intelligence--is it a product of our culture or our genes? Are some of this world's cultures more effective, more useful...maybe even more valuable? Should having babies be licensed and regulated, and not a right given to everyone? Features of Confucianism. Artificial Intelligence and the Technological Singularity. Ideas in the movie Idiocracy--a lighthearted science fiction movie in which the entire population of the world, in the far future, becomes very stupid. And I ask Hank if I am accurate in sizing him up as "an activist who feels comfortable using people's negative emotions to get the word out on topics he feels are important." I tell him that I think he views argument and controversy as useful and important tools. And I ask him if I am wrong. Hank Pellissier is a writer, editor, speaker and producer, especially on futurist and transhumanist topics. He has written 22 articles for HplusMagazine, and 30 articles for IEET.org - the Institute for Ethics and Emerging Technology. Seven of his articles placed in the Top 12 in 2011 hits. In 2012 he was appointed the Managing Director of IEET. He continued to write for the site, finishing the year with 4 articles in the Top 12. He left IEET in October 2012 to start Transhumanity.net. He gave that site to Zero State in February 2013, and started ImmortalLife.info. He sold that site to Giovanni Santostasi in June 2013, and started the website BrighterBrains.org. At this site he started producing the TRANSHUMAN VISIONS conferences in the San Fransico Bay Area. He is the author of three e-books, Brighter Brains-225 Ways to Elevate or Injure IQ, Why is the IQ of Ashkenazi Jews so High?, and Invent Utopia Now. As a journalist, he was the "Local Intelligence" columnist for the New York Times (San Francisco edition) and he's a frequent contributor to GreatSchools.org. Past work includes a daily column for Salon.com titled "Naked World," two columns for SfGate.com titled "Urban Animal" and "Odd Barkings," and dozens of articles for other publications like San Fransisco Bay Guardian, World Future Society, and Acceler8or. He has also performed as a solo performance artist and Slam Poet, under his nom de plume, "Hank Hyena." Hosted by Stephen Euin Cobb, this is the June 11, 2014 episode of The Future And You. Hank Pellissier--[Part 3]--(writer, editor, speaker, producer, futurist and transhumanist). Topics: Trends going on in education, especially online sources of education such as the Khan Academy, which I enjoy a great deal, and which is completely free to all users. (I've especially enjoyed their mathematics, history and biology.) We also talk about: the gamification of education; Hank's recent magazine article about learning through music videos; and the power of the Internet to reconnect people who, for decades, thought they would never see one another again. Somewhere in the middle of this episode, I describe, in some detail, the innovative and interactive method used by the Khan Academy to teach mathematics. Their method makes it easy, painless, and astoundingly more efficient than any traditional classroom. Note: A listener named Rainer sent links to three lectures which are videos on YouTube. I watched the first one: a one hour lecture about the paleolithic diet by a medical biochemist. It was excellent: full of well-researched science. All three videos make a case for the paleolithic diet. Here are the second and third videos. Announcement: For a limited time, one of my novels is on sale. The Kindle edition of Skinbrain (Cerebrodermus Fantastica), my most recent and most futuristic novel, has been reduced to just $2.99. That's right, under three bucks for what I consider my best novel. Skinbrain description from Amazon.com: On an earth-like planet far from Earth the remains of a long dead alien civilization have been found, but this news has not reached the authorities—nor will it. Fourteen murderers—a mixed bag of human and alien criminals—have seen to that by killing the team of forty scientists who discovered the remains. These professional criminals combine their talents to search through the rubble for a hypothetical alien super-weapon. One under-age street-tough thinks she's got what it takes to rub shoulders and bump heads with the worst of them but soon realizes she's in way over her head. Worse, as conflicts struggle to tear it apart, she learns just how unstable a team of criminals can be. Call it anything you like: treachery, betrayal, or just reducing the number with whom one must share the final spoils. Here, as in all of life, cowards and the dead reap nothing. If you like science fiction, especially science fiction which involves strange alien worlds, strange alien species, strange alien cultures, and strange alien criminals. Check it out. If you enjoy reading Skinbrain a hundredth as much as I enjoyed writing it, you are in for wonderful experience.
