When I was sixteen years old, still in high school, I had three little lines in a film called The Sniper. I hardly remembered doing it, a soda fountain scene, a telephone booth, nothing remarkable, but that tiny job paid enough to earn my membership in the Screen Actors Guild. Only years later did it strike me that the film had been produced by Stanley Kramer. He helped launch my career without ever knowing my name. This podcast is powered by Pinecast.
Luke 13:10-13: “On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, ‘Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.’ Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.” Ya’ll this woman had been crippled for 18 years and with the touch of Jesus, she was immediately healed. WooooHoooo, that’s my Jesus right there. Boom! Now where is our focus on this story? The miracle right? We focus on the miracle. But I want you to focus on something else. I'll read the scripture again, let's not focus on the miracle, let's focus on what LED to the miracle. If you need a miracle in your life, learn from this woman’s miracle and see exactly what brought her to it. “On a Sabbath Jesus was teaching in one of the synagogues, and a woman was there who had been crippled by a spirit for eighteen years. She was bent over and could not straighten up at all. When Jesus saw her, he called her forward and said to her, “Woman, you are set free from your infirmity.” Then he put his hands on her, and immediately she straightened up and praised God.” The miracle did not begin when Jesus touched her. The miracle story began when she got out of bed that morning and made her way to the synagogue. Before there was a healing, there was a decision. Before there was a breakthrough, there was obedience. Before there was a miracle, there was a woman who showed up. Here's what we've been missing in this miraculous story of healing. This poor, crippled, bent over woman, GOT UP AND WENT that day. She showed up. In order for her to be at the synagogue where Jesus was teaching, she first had to get up and go there. The miracle didn’t begin with healing; it began with showing up. Notice something remarkable. The woman did not come to the synagogue because she knew she would be healed that day. She came because that’s where God was being worshiped. She showed up without a promise of a miracle. She showed up without evidence that today would be different. She showed up because faithfulness does what it knows to do even when feelings say otherwise. I bet she didn't feel like getting up that day. I bet she was aching and hurting. I bet she was even embarrassed by her condition. BUT SHE GOT UP ANY WAY. That's exactly what we need to do. We can't sit around doing nothing. You have a responsibility in your story. Your responsibility is to get up and position yourself. Do what you can with what you have right now. Stop focusing on what you can’t do, and girl, do what you can do. This woman got up and went even when she didn't feel like it. Even when it was HARD FOR HER. Even when it had been hard for her for 18 years! Eighteen years is a long time. Eighteen years of disappointment. Eighteen years of pain. Eighteen years of waking up with the same problem. Yet somehow she refused to let a long season become a permanent mindset. Her condition lasted eighteen years, but she refused to let hopelessness last eighteen years too. Ahhhhh, sister will you bring your 18 year struggle to an encounter with Jesus? Or will you give up thinking your miracle will never come? Have you bought into the lie that it will always be this way? One encounter with Jesus could radically change your life but you must position yourself for the encounter. Jesus performs the miracle, but the woman positioned herself for an encounter. There are some things only God can do. Healing is God’s job. Deliverance is God’s job. Miracles are God’s job. But positioning ourselves for an encounter with Him is our job. We cannot create a miracle, but we can create the opportunity to meet with the Miracle Worker. But may I take you even deeper? Can I take you deeper this morning? There's one more thing we may be missing in this story. How did this crippled woman make herself get up and go even when she didn't feel like it? How do you make yourself do what you know you need to do when you plain ol’ don’t feel like it? What you don’t see in this story is what made this woman get up and show up for her encounter with Jesus was she had been THINKING. Yes, she had been thinking. Her thoughts didn’t heal her. Jesus healed her. But her thoughts influenced her actions. Her actions placed her where Jesus was. And there, in the presence of Jesus, everything changed. WHAT YOU THINK DOES MAKE A DIFFERENCE. Your thoughts are the seeds, your actions put those seeds in the ground, and your results are the harvest. You get a harvest because you grew some plants and those plants first began as seed. Your results today are because of your actions. Your actions first began as thoughts. Your thoughts today will grow something … will you be pleased with that harvest? What if this woman would have THOUGHT she was too sick or tired to go see Jesus that day? Ahhh, she would have missed her miracle. I wonder how many times she had been to this place before? How many times had she gone bent over, then walked back home bent over? How many times had she struggled though her day and came to the end of the day no better, with no change? Likely a lot. Likely 18 years. If she would have been thinking “well, what’s the point of even going there today, it’s never done anything for me” what would have happened? NOTHING would have happened because she wouldn’t have even been in the position to encounter Jesus. Does it feel like nothing is happening in your life? Nothing has ever changed and therefore nothing will ever change? That must have been how this woman felt too. But she had been thinking. She had been thinking, “I'm gonna get up and go even if I don't feel like it. I'm gonna see what I can do. I'm gonna go even if people look at me. I'm gonna walk in there all crippled like even if people talk about me. I'm gonna get myself there. I'm gonna get up.” The woman could not straighten herself up, but she could get herself there. And it was her THINKING that led to her ACTION. It was her ACTION that led to her ENCOUNTER. It was her encounter that led to her MIRACLE. We all want the miracle. God please save my marriage. God please change my child. God please heal my body. God please bring that job. God please just hand deliver it all to me as I sit right here on my couch because I really don't feel like getting up. God, you’re gonna have to bring it to me because I gave up on showing up. What good place have you stopped going to? What prayer have you stopped praying? What act of obedience have you postponed because eighteen years feels too long? The woman could not heal herself. But she could get up. She could take a step. She could show up. And that was enough for Jesus to meet her there. Maybe your next miracle isn’t waiting on God’s ability … Maybe it’s waiting on your willingness to get up and go. Woman, STRAIGHTEN UP. You can't get the miracle without the encounter. You can't get the encounter without the action. And you'll never take the action without first THINKING. What are you thinking today? Do your thoughts align with your doubts or your faith? Are you focused on what you CAN do or what you can’t do? Straighten up. You've felt sorry for yourself too long. You've been letting people run over you too long. You've been wallowing in this too long. You've been worried about this too long. Straighten up. In the words of Jesus, “woman you are set free.” Start thinking like it. Start talking like it. Start acting like it. Your thoughts lead to an action. Your action leads to an encounter. And that encounter brings you to your miracle. The Israelites stood trapped — the Red Sea in front of them, Pharaoh's army thundering behind them. No path forward, no path back. By every human measure, they were finished. Drowning or destruction seemed like their only options. But they cried out to the Lord. And the God who hears, sees, and delivers stepped in. He didn't just make a way — He created a path no one had ever seen before. He parted the Red Sea and led His people through on dry ground, silencing every threat behind them.

Faith is defined in scripture as "the confidence" of what is hoped for, and the "assurance" of what we do not see. Faith is never defined as something that comes as a consequence after an experience, but often times, before or despite not having the experience. This was the case for the disciples many times over. However, even after witnessing the great miracles done by Jesus, they still did not quite grasp His mission: it was never about miracles, but about who the One is Who does the miracles. Why should we chase the miracle, when we should be chasing after the Miracle Worker? We hope this message gives clarity in your understanding of faith!

Garrison landmark has hosted hundreds of shows A rare bird has reached a milestone. The Philipstown Depot Theater, co-sponsored by the town and operated by a nonprofit, is celebrating 30 years in the second grand old depot at Garrison's Landing. The first depot, moved across the street in the 1890s, is now a part of Antipodean Books. Over three decades, The Depot Theater has staged 90 plays and musicals, more than 180 youth productions, the long-running Depot Docs series, musical performances, storytelling and modern dance. Its latest production, The Heart Sellers, opens tonight (May 1); Amy Dul, the Depot's executive director since 1998, says that over the past two years it has been the most-produced play by theater groups in the U.S. Two weeks from now, on May 17, the theater will host its annual gala and highlight the past and future: It plans to soon build a 6,000-square-foot storage, rehearsal and education center near the town Recreation Center on Route 9D. The theater will pay for and construct the structure, then dedicate it to the town, which will provide a 99-year lease. Built like a tank, the former depot at Garrison's Landing has 16-inch-thick granite walls and exquisite woodwork. It's one of the most ornate stations along the Hudson Line because four railroad tycoons who lived in Philipstown during the Gilded Age wanted to wait for their elaborate private cars in style. After closing in 1956, the depot fell into disrepair until the newly created Garrison's Landing Association purchased it from New York Central in the early 1960s for $3,000 (about $33,000 today). In 1966, a group of residents, including Russel Wright, the designer who lived and worked at Manitoga, envisioned a railroad museum and poured another $2,000 ($20,000) into sprucing up the space. The following year, the Hand to Mouth Players began presenting productions at the depot, a run that continued for 29 years. Remember These? (2021) The Cake (2022) God of Carnage (2023) In 1996, Jean Marzollo and Carolyn Copeland wanted to expand their summer teen musical program from an annex at St. Philip's Episcopal Church in Garrison, recalls Claudio Marzollo, who would serve as president of the newly formed Philipstown Depot Theater for 14 years. The Garrison's Landing Association ended its lease with the Hand to Mouth Players, which it said was behind on its rent, and the new troupe asked the town for funding. Philipstown came through, but "didn't know anything about running a theater, so we formed what became the nucleus of our board of directors," says Marzollo. Today, the town covers the modest rent paid by the theater to the Landing Association and assists with other expenses. Taxpayers provide about 9 percent of the budget, says Dul; the rest comes from grants, donations and ticket sales. Send us Fan MailThe mind loves to insist that what happened “out there” caused what we feel “in here” but ACIM turns that whole chain of causation upside down. From Lake Wacom in Washington, I walk slowly through A Course in Miracles, Chapter 3, Section 2 (Special Principles for Miracle Workers) and follow the argument to a conclusion that can feel shocking at first: wrong-mindedness does not create real effects. Its real effect is emptiness, and that emptiness is exactly why projection is so seductive. We explore what it means to call the world of form “empty form” and why the body, money, relationships, ageing, diagnosis, and events have no inherent meaning until the mind assigns content. When something feels heavy, lonely, or threatening, we look for the projected meaning that is being energised right now and ask what it would feel like without that meaning. From there, the miracle comes into focus as a level adjustment: healing is not a form upgrade, it is corrected perception and the end of level confusion. Then we bring it home to forgiveness. Forgiveness is an empty gesture unless it entails correction, because forgiving while still believing someone's mistake tarnished their identity is just judgment in disguise. We unpack “Father forgive them for they know not what they do” as a model of miraculous forgiveness that does not evaluate outcomes, does not pardon guilt, and makes a simple appeal for minds to be healed. If you're ready to question the outcome you can't stop replaying and test a gentler, cleaner way to heal, press play.Subscribe for more ACIM deep dives, share this with someone stuck in a grievance loop, and leave a review so more listeners can find it. Send a textYour mind keeps insisting there isn't enough: not enough time, not enough space, not enough money, not enough safety. We slow that whole reflex down and look at a line from A Course in Miracles that cuts straight through it: “The miracle abolishes the need for lower order concerns.” Not the circumstances. The need. The inner urgency that makes the world feel like a threat. We explore what “lower order concerns” really are (schedules, health anxiety, finances, logistics, status, outcomes) and why the miracle is a perceptual correction rather than a form-level fix. From there we move into the Course's radical view of time and space: a miracle is “out of pattern,” not logically caused by the past, which means the script can break. When we choose right-mindedness, we stop treating limitation as primary, and the next practical step becomes cleaner, calmer, and often surprisingly obvious. We also unpack the essential distinction between what is created (eternal spirit) and what is made (the body, the world, identity stories), plus a sharp warning for every would-be miracle worker: never confuse right-mindedness with wrong-mindedness. If we meet miscreation with anything but a desire to heal, we reinforce the confusion. The miracle denies the error and affirms the truth, without repression and without spiritual bypassing. If you want grounded spiritual practice, forgiveness that actually reduces fear, and a more peaceful relationship with “not enough,” press play. Subscribe, share this with a friend who's drowning in urgency, and leave a review with the one lower order concern you're ready to release.Support the show

We kicked off our new series: Elisha - The Making of a Miracle Worker this week. We are excited to see all that God has in store for us with this series!
Back to the garage this week for a five-pack of versions of "I Ain't No Miracle Worker." The Annette Tucker/Nancy Mantz penned tune (they wrote "I Had Too Much Too Dream Last Night) was originally waxed by The Brogues in 1965. The Everyman, gruff vocals will put hair on your chest and the precise playing will make you think these guys can move mountains. An even more macho take comes from Canada's Great Scots, and we can attest to Canadian masculinity, can't we?The singer of this one might have turned into The Hulk (TM) later ... Podcast faves The Chocolate Watchband slow the tempo down and had some exotic touches - is that a balalaika? Dave Aguilar's vocal performance is more pained and we like the nuances. In the early 80s, British retronauts The Barracudas did the tune & it's jangly, power-poppy, and even a little post-punk in the vocals. Nice one, that. Finally, fast forward to 2023 for a postmilennial version by The KVB that draws out the no-hope message of the song and our times! Just take them for what they are!!!

Miracle Workers is a TBS comedy series that aired from 2019-2023, created by Simon Rich and based on his book What in God's Name. The first season is set in Heaven, where God (Steve Buscemi) has grown bored and cynical about humanity and decides it might be time to wipe Earth off the board entirely. Standing in the way of total annihilation are two low-level angels—Craig (Daniel Radcliffe) and Eliza (Geraldine Viswanathan). The result is a workplace sitcom filtered through divine bureaucracy, with Heaven run like a deeply inefficient corporate office. Critics responded positively to Miracle Worker's absurd premise and offbeat tone, praising its willingness to commit fully to big swings and philosophical jokes wrapped in dumb humor. While later seasons reinvent the series entirely, the first season stands out for its tight concept and clear emotional stakes. Listen as the S1E1 boys deep dive the pilot episode, "2 Weeks". Starring: Daniel Radcliffe, Geraldine Viswanathan, Karan Soni, Jon Bass, Sasha Compère, Lolly Adefope, Angela Kinsey, & Steve Buscemi www.S1E1POD.com Instagram & X (Twitter): @S1E1POD
What do you do when you can feel the pain of the whole world? In this episode, Jennifer Hadley shares what happened when she sat down to read the news and found herself crying — not from despair, but from feeling the collective fear, worry, and anxiety so many people are experiencing right now. This led her to one of the most powerful sections in A Course in Miracles: the Special Principles for Miracle Workers. Jennifer explores the difference between "pushing density" (trying to fix things in form) and "working in the invisible" (shifting consciousness at the level of the mind). She unpacks why responding to error with anything except a desire to heal keeps us trapped in confusion. Are you believing for a miracle but struggling with doubt? In this powerful message, we look at what it truly means to have a faith that honors God—a faith that believes even when it can't see, persists when nothing changes, works when it doesn't make sense, and seeks the Miracle-Worker above the miracle itself.Through stories from Mark 9, Mark 5, and powerful truths throughout Scripture, we're reminded that everything is possible for those who believe. God still moves. He still heals. He still demonstrates His awesome power.

Exorcisms on the big screen are terrifying – but what did exorcisms mean in first-century Palestine? Join Helen and Lloyd in the Biblical Time Machine as they uncover the strange world of Greek magical papyri, the Dead Sea Scrolls and charismatic figures viewed as magicians. Joining them in the Time Machine is Professor Graham Twelftree, a leading Jesus historian, who argues that Jesus was perceived in his own lifetime as an exorcist. Graham H. Twelftree is Professor Emeritus of New testament Theology and Early Christianity at the School of Divinity, Regent University in Virginia, and Professor of New Testament and Early Christianity at the London School of Theology. His many works include Jesus the Exorcist: A Contribution to the Study of the Historical Jesus (1991), Jesus the Miracle Worker and Paul and the Miraculous, and edited volumes such as The Nature Miracles of Jesus: Problems, Perspectives and Prospects and The Cambridge Companion to Miracles. As we read about the many miracles Jesus performs in today's readings from Matthew, Fr. Mike asserts the objective reality of those miracles and reinforces that Jesus is truly the Son of God who has power over matter. We learn that in Jesus, we too can do things that we could never do on our own. Today's readings are Matthew 14-17, and Proverbs 19:9-12. A Nice Indian Boy (Now on Hulu!) is one of our favorite films of the year, and on today's episode, we talk to power couple Karan Soni and Roshan Sethi, the star and director of the film respectively! We hear about their relationship roles when they started dating, and how those roles have inverted over time; Karan tells us about his pre-Roshan dating life, Roshan talks to us about his run-ins with cops and Gen Z residents, and a TON of other stuff including medical shows' biggest deception: that there are white doctors!
