What happens when you combine the brilliant mind of Ryan Coogler and a bunch of blood-thirsty vampires? You get SINNERS, one of the most original and entertaining films of the year. A theatrical feat at the box office, it's grossed over 285 million dollars since its April 16th release. It was my absolute pleasure to talk to producer Sev Ohanian about how this monster movie gem came to fruition. Sev is a homie and we go way back to our baby producer days, so it is really special for me to reconnect with him after so many years. Our meet cute story is also one for the books! Sev is Armenian-American screenwriter, producer, and founder of Proximity Media alongside Ryan and Zinzi Coogler. He co-wrote and produced (alongside his wife and producing partner Natalie Qasabian who was on the podcast back in 2019!), SEARCHING, released by Sony Screen Gems in 2018. The film grossed $75 million worldwide and sparked the sequel, MISSING. Ohanian also co-wrote and produced RUN for Lionsgate, which became Hulu's most-watched film upon its premiere. During our time together, we talked about his first foray into filmmaking - an $800 micro-budget film shot on his dad's home video camera, how his working relationship with Coogler came to be, and the trials and tribulations of shooting on location in the swamps of Louisiana. xx cg

Mike and Kenny review and spot faith reflected in the latest film from writer / director Ryan Coogler which stars Michael B. Jordon in dual roles as Elijah "Smoke" and Elias "Stack" Moore, twin brothers returning from a mysterious time Chicago to their Mississippi Delta home town to start again. Set in the 1930's "Smoke" and "Stack," flush with cash and mystery on how they made it, seek to start again by opening a Juke Joint for the black community in their town.  Amidst the challenges they were expecting such as from the Klan, their biggest threat is supernatural evil.    Faith Spotted: The destructive power of temptation and greed, whether for riches, power, influence, or eternal life. Although sin and the brokenness of the world impact all of creation, people have freedom and choose to invite or let sin and unrighteousness into their lives. As taught in Scripture, God offers people the freedom to accept relationship with, and righteousness of, God. Likewise people choose to accept or invite sin/the Devil into their lives, rather than it invading or taking over.  Life outside the grace and love of God is not a blessing but a burden that imprisons the body and destroys one's spirit.  The film depicts the teaching of Jesus in Matthew 10:28 that one should not fear that which can kill only the body, but fear that which kills the soul.  The vampire /Dracula mythology and symbolism that dates back thousands of years depicts the struggle of evil against good.  The place and role of music in black culture and the black church.

Cathey Tributes Following Backlash https://www.cbr.com/disney-plus-punisher-luke-cage-stan-lee-tribute-restored-marvel/ Disney+ has restored tributes to the late Stan Lee and Reg E. Cathey in The Punisher and Luke Cage, respectively.   Earlier in April 2022, it was discovered that the streaming service had removed the two tributes from their respective appearances in the second season finales of The Punisher and Luke Cage. When fans caught wind of the decision, they were displeased, to say the least. Following the backlash, the two memorial tributes once again adjoin these two series in "The Defenders Saga."   Whether these series will see any sort of revival remains to be seen. For a moment, it seemed that Daredevil was officially canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe being that Matthew Murdock's live-action biography on Marvel's website was updated to include both the events of the series and the character's appearance in Spider-Man: No Way Home. However, Marvel has since removed the mention of No Way Home from Murdock's television timeline.   While Daredevil star Charlie Cox is rumored and reported to reprise his role in numerous upcoming MCU projects, there is no word on whether actors Mike Colter and/or Jon Bernthal will return as Luke Cage and Frank Castle, respectively. Bernthal did react to The Punisher landing on Disney+, but there has been no word from the actor on whether he has been asked to return any time soon. As for Colter, the actor revealed back in late 2020 that he had not been approached about returning, but that he'd "love to."   ‘Moon Knight' Directors Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead on Joining the MCU, Helming Episodes 2 & 4, and ‘Loki' Season 2 https://collider.com/moon-knight-directors-justin-benson-aaron-moorhead-interview-loki-season-2-disney-plus/   Marvel's ‘Ironheart' Finds Its Directors While Ryan Coogler Boards as Executive Producer https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/marvel-ironheart-show-directors-ryan-coogler-1235128280/ Ryan Coogler and his production banner, Proximity Media, have joined the creative team of Ironheart, Marvel's Disney+ series featuring the titular Iron Man-adjacent character.   At the same time, the show has firmed up its filmmaking talent, hiring Sam Bailey and Angela Barnes as directors.   Dominique Thorne is toplining Ironheart, playing Riri Williams, a brilliant teenage inventor who, in the comics, builds her own version of the Iron Man suit in an MIT dorm.   Disney+ Removes The Defenders' Post-Credits Punisher Teaser https://www.cbr.com/disney-plus-removes-defenders-punisher-teaser-marvel/ The Defenders on Disney+ seems to be missing its post-credits teaser for The Punisher.   When the show originally aired on Netflix, The Defenders featured a teaser trailer for The Punisher as its post-credits scene. The trailer saw Frank Castle/Punisher (Jon Bernthal) using a sledgehammer to smash his logo into concrete while revealing footage from the show. As Twitter user Ian Cardona notes, that teaser for The Punisher no longer appears at the end of The Defenders. CBR has verified that this change was made in both the Canadian and American markets.   She-Hulk Reportedly Bumped Back on Marvel's Disney+ Schedule https://www.cbr.com/she-hulk-reportedly-bumped-back-marvel-schedule-mcu/ A leaker on Reddit with a proven track record in regards to WandaVision suggested She-Hulk could arrive in very late 2022 or even early 2023 as various VFX houses hustle to complete post-production. This information lines up with a report from March about She-Hulk facing some behind-the-scenes difficulties. (https://www.cbr.com/she-hulk-creative-issues-report/)   https://www.reddit.com/r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers/comments/u2qblb/shehulk_pushed_to_late_2022/   FEEDBACK [1:01:44]   TWITTER Dr. Gnome to you @MrParacletes @LegendsofSHIELD So 2 things I'm wondering from this most recent #MoonKnight episode. First, if every time Ammit determines goodness before they commit evil, & the concept of preventing future evil occurs, would everyone need tested again given the butterfly effect principle? Dr. Gnome to you @MrParacletes Second, and this may be a serious reach, is Steven's use of "Laters gators," perhaps a reference to the Egyptian God Sebek who has a crocodile head but he thinks it's a gator or doesn't know the difference?   OUTRO AND BONUS AUDIO [1:05:48]   We would love to hear back from you!
