This week, we're discussing the murder of political commentator Charlie Kirk. To do that, we have Cam Edwards from Bearing Arms on the show. While the full details and precise motivations of the killer are not completely known, the political nature of the attack--coming in the middle of one of Kirk's public debate events--is especially concerning. Cam agreed that the vast majority of people have reacted by condemning the attack. However, he was worried about the people who reacted by condoning or even celebrating the brazen act of violence. Cam recounted how a similar phenomenon played out in his own life after he lost his wife and son. He said some people reacted with vitriol because of his firearms advocacy. However, some of those who vehemently opposed Cam's views also reached out with genuine care. In the end, Cam said it would be easy to go down a hateful path--perhaps even lucrative. But he also said it would be corrosive for himself and for society. So, he chose not to respond with hate, and he believes that's the best way forward for everyone. They are still building something, and they most likely will be in for a long season next year.  News and Politics Charlie Kirk  I did not know who he was until yesterday, so this is what I know.  White Male, Shot and Killed in Utah he was 31 married with two kids.     He was talking on a Utah college campus, he was a right wing republican whose narrative was divisive.    He was not a political candidate but a pundit, who had a right wing conservative following.    His messaging especially on gun control is and I  quote "We must also be real. We must be honest with the population. Having an armed citizenry comes with a price, and that is part of liberty...I think it's worth having a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights."   In the simplest of analogies he believed that you had to break some eggs to make an omelet, and unfortunately he was one of the eggs.    I want to discuss that his life ceases to exist, but for those who were there at the event, have to live with that the rest of their lives and those who now have watched it also carry that burden. It is very widespread online and if you or people you know do not want to see it, turn off auto play on your applications that you view most to avoid seeing something you do not want to see. Charlie Kirk was a lightning rod ... of energy for the conservative base at the younger demographic the GOP sorely needed help with ... of controversy for those he targeted with his rhetoric ... and now, his assassination has exposed deep rifts within our society, empathetically, morally, politically and religiously.I, myself, didn't have a cogent response to share with anyone - for hours Wednesday afternoon. What I knew before he was killed hasn't changed much: he was anti-gay, vehemently anti-trans, some might argue antisemitic and made several insulting statements about black people (does that make him a racist or was he just tone deaf? I'll let others decide).I found myself watching as those on the right hailed him as being a wonderful young man (to whom?) and devout Christian (but is Christianity comfortable with his representation of their faith, with his rhetoric?) while the rest of the American spectrum mostly coalesced around the prevailing thought: no one should lose their life exercising their First Amendment right.Now, for me, it's ironic this occurred in Utah, an open carry haven where someone with a hunting rifle visible in their vehicle on the college campus parking lot elicits no reaction. Charlie did, infamously say "I think it's worth to have a cost of, unfortunately, some gun deaths every single year so that we can have the Second Amendment to protect our other God-given rights."Then there's this: how he was assassinated and that no suspect has been found gives me reason to suspect an outside influence.

Florida's ban on the open carrying of firearms is unconstitutional according to the 1st District Court of Appeal. The three-judge panel ruled that the 2nd Amendment to the Constitution guarantees the right to bear arms including the right to openly do so. In response Florida's Attorney General James Uthmeier stated: Florida's 1st District Court of Appeals just ruled that Florida's open carry ban is no longer constitutionally enforceable statewide. This Day in Legal History: Certiorari Granted in WindsorOn September 11, 2012, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a petition for certiorari in United States v. Windsor, setting the stage for one of the most consequential civil rights decisions of the decade. The case challenged Section 3 of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defined marriage for federal purposes as between one man and one woman. Edith Windsor, the plaintiff, had been legally married to her same-sex partner, Thea Spyer, in Canada.
