The top AI news from the past week, every ThursdAI

Hey, this is Alex,Ok let's start with the big news, holy crap this week was a breakthrough week for speed! We had both Groq explode in popularity, and ByteDance release an updated SDXL model called Lightning, able to generate full blown SDXL 1024 images in 300ms. I've been excited about seeing what real time LLM/Diffusion can bring, and with both of these news release the same week, I just had to go and test them out together: Additionally, we had Google step into a big open weights role, and give us Gemma, 2 open weights models 2B and 7B (which is closer to 9B per Junyang) and it was great to see google committing to releasing at least some models in the open. We also had breaking news, Emad from Stability announced SD3, which looks really great, Google to pay Reddit 200M for AI training on their data & a few more things. TL;DR of all topics covered: * Big CO LLMs + APIs* Groq custom LPU inference does 400T/s Llama/Mistral generation (X, Demo)* Google image generation is in Hot Waters and was reportedly paused (refuses to generate white people)* Gemini 1.5 long context is very impressive to folks (Matt Shumer, Ethan Mollick)* Open Weights LLMs * Google releases GEMMA, open weights 2B and 7B models (Announcement, Models)* Teknium releases Nous Hermes DPO (Announcement, HF)* Vision & Video* YoLo V9 - SOTA real time object detector is out (Announcement, Code)* This weeks Buzz (What I learned in WandB this week)* Went to SF to cohost an event with A16Z, Nous, Mistral (Thread, My Report)* AI Art & Diffusion & 3D* ByteDance presents SDXL-Lightning (Try here, Model)* Stability announces Stable Diffusion 3 (Announcement)* Tools* Replit releases a new experimental Figma plugin for UI → Code (Announcement)* Arc browser adds "AI pinch to understand" summarization (Announcement)Big CO LLMs + APIsGroq's new LPU show extreme performance for LLMs - up to 400T/s (example)* Groq created a novel processing unit known as the Tensor Streaming Processor (TSP) which they categorize as a Linear Processor Unit (LPU). Unlike traditional GPUs that are parallel processors with hundreds of cores designed for graphics rendering, LPUs are architected to deliver deterministic performance for AI computations.* Analogy: They know where all the cars are going when everyone wakes up for work (when they compile) and how fast they all drive (compute latency) so they can get rid of traffic lights (routers) and turn lanes (backpressure) by telling everyone when to leave the house.* Why would we need something like this? Some folks are saying that average human reading is only 30T/s, I created an example that uses near instant Groq Mixtral + Lightning SDXL to just create images with Mixtral as my prompt managerOpen Source Weights LLMs Google Gemma - 2B and 7B open weights models (demo)* 4 hours after release, Llama.cpp added support, Ollama and LM Studio added support, Tri dao added Flash attention support* Vocab size is 256K* 8K context window* Tokenizer similar to LLama* Folks are... not that impressed as far as I've seen* Trained on 6 trillion tokens* Google also released Gemma.cpp (local CPU inference) - AnnouncementNous/Teknium re-release Nous Hermes with DPO finetune (Announcement)* DPO RLHF is performing better than previous models* Models are GGUF and can be found here* DPO enables Improvements across the boardThis weeks Buzz (What I learned with WandB this week)* Alex was in SF last week* A16Z + 20 something cohosts including Weights & Biases talked about importance of open source* Huge Shoutout Rajko and Marco from A16Z, and tons of open source folks who joined* Nous, Ollama, LLamaIndex, LMSys folks, Replicate, Perplexity, Mistral, Github, as well as Eric Hartford, Jon Durbin, Haotian Liu, HuggingFace, tons of other great folks from Mozilla, linux foundation and Percy from Together/StanfordAlso had a chance to checkout one of the smol dinners in SF, they go really hard, had a great time showing folks the Vision Pro, chatting about AI, seeing incredible demos and chat about meditation and spirituality all at the same time! AI Art & DiffusionByteDance presents SDXL-Lightning (Try here)* Lightning fast SDXL with 2, 4 or 8 steps* Results much closer to original SDXL than turbo version from a few months agoStability announces Stable Diffusion 3 (waitlist)Uses a Diffusion Transformer architecture (like SORA)Impressive multi subject prompt following: "Prompt: a painting of an astronaut riding a pig wearing a tutu holding a pink umbrella, on the ground next to the pig is a robin bird wearing a top hat, in the corner are the words "stable diffusion"Tools* Replit announces a new Figma design→ code plugin That's it for today, definitely check out the full conversation with Mark Heaps from Groq on the pod, and see you next week!

The critical elements for a strong and healthy relationship are mutual Respect, Understanding, Communication, Compromise, and Trust. We should first understand the person and respect their opinions; giving them a chance to speak and putting in their shoes is important too. Being an 11-year-old child, I have never experienced a broken relationship, but let me tell my story with my best friends. My parents and I have lived in Bangalore since my birth. Over there, I met Ridhi and Tanishka on the first day of school. We became best friends. They were kind, affectionate and caring. They would cheer me up when I was not in a good mood. One day, my father said we had to shift to Hyderabad for his job there. I was distressed to leave my friends and head for a new life. Listen to my story on repairing broken relationships. “If something is broken, then learn to repair it. If someone is angry, then learn to convince and please them. Akanksha and Shivangi talk about their ground reports from Dausa and Alwar in Rajasthan about vaccine hesitancy, lack of health infrastructure, increase in child marriages, and the revival of "nata pratha" where a woman is married to a man from the same family after her husband's death. Comparing the Rajasthan government's response to Covid to Uttar Pradesh's, Akanksha argues that the Ashok Gehlot government made smarter policy decisions which found appreciation in the mainstream media. In this episode of Reporters Without Orders, host Akanksha Kumar is joined by Newslaundry's Shivangi Saxena and Tanishka Sodhi.Shivangi talks about her experiences with Akanksha in reporting on Covid from eastern Uttar Pradesh. At Gorakhpur's Sadar Hospital, she says, they watched people coming in from villages 200 km away. Despair was all around them, as family members were unable to procure beds and oxygen cylinders, or even get a doctor to see the patients.“They were afraid that if they speak against the administration, they might refuse their families' treatment,” she says. She herself was denied entry to the hospital as people were worried that negative news reports would lead to a backlash from the government.Shivangi also explains how rural areas face the additional burden of poor connectivity and a crumbling healthcare infrastructure. Tanishka talks about her report on why Modi is getting such negative coverage from the international media. On the increasing number of editorials criticising India's handling of the pandemic, she says the international press doesn't hold back in the way the Indian media does.“Modi's silence over the past two weeks about what's happening is also very embarrassing,” she says. “Because even Donald Trump had conferences everyday.” On why everyone's reporting on India, Tanishka says, “This virus doesn't care about borders. Prateek had interviewed Bastar police chief P Sundarraj on the attack, and says, “The army had clear input that battalion number 1 of Naxals has movement in the South Bastar region.” He thinks the incident cannot be blamed on an intelligence failure and adds that the attack shouldn't be compared to the 2010 Dantewada attack.Tanishka and Diksha discuss their report on daily wage workers employed on the sets of Mumbai's film city. The workers had described their lockdown ordeal last year and how they're worried about a second lockdown. “Since it was not work from home, the workers had to be present on the sets, be it spot boys or assistants,” Tanishka explains. Tanishka Teaches Us How To Create A Sacred Union Within Sharing unique insights into how women function from a groundbreaking feminine perspective she transcends the age old question of ‘what women want' by offering an innovative and natural solution as to how women can meet their needs through simple and effective strategies. Tanishka seeks to empower women so they can transform their lives in powerful and positive ways. =============================== In 1996 Tanishka got down on her knees & asked the Universe to send her some female role models. Within 2 weeks she was invited to a Goddess workshop with Jennifer Powell which inspired her to leave her fledgeling career as a stand-up comedienne (putting herself down for laughs!) & spend a year in the mountains studying ancient women's wisdom, after which she returned to pioneer a unique series of ‘Awaken Goddess' feminine archetype seminars & channelled readings. She then spent 12 years serving as an intuitive Tarot reader & facilitating empowerment events for women. These included Goddess workshops, Red Tent women's circles, residential retreats & ceremonies for lunar & seasonal celebrations & rites of passage for adults, teens & children. Her first book, ‘The Inner Goddess Makeover' was released June 2007. In 2008, she started also working with men as well as women offering private Sacred Union sessions for individuals, couples & workshops for men & women to trial the Sacred Union teachings she was channelling in her book, Creating Sacred Union Within. In 2010, following guidance she created a You Tube series of videos to educate women about the ancient custom of the Red Tent, titled, ‘Operation Red Tent' this also included a fact sheet with basic instructions on how to create a circle. She later expanded this vision in 2013 by launching an online course which gave women a far more comprehensive training in group facilitation, lunar cycles, working with the shadow, sacred space & women's mysteries. This course has now trained women in 43 countries. In 2011 one of her students, Natasha Odnoral was intuitively guided to offer her the Facebook page, ‘The Moon Woman' she had created which had 7000 followers. Tanishka's daily lunar guidance blog became an instant hit & the numbers have soared to over half a million followers. In 2012 she released her second book, ‘Creating Sacred Union Within' & did her first national speaking tour around Australia to public & critical acclaim, decoding of the Holy Grail from the perspective of the sacred feminine. In 2014 she did her first international speaking tour in the US & ran her first international‘Inner Goddess' retreat in Bali which has been a sell out annual event ever since. In 2014 she launched her Sacred Union online course, guiding singles & couples through the ancient practice of the Hieros Gamos which she decoded. She also launched her first two oracle decks based on work as an intuitive Tarot reader for 12 years as well as 3 x double meditation CD's & her third book, ‘Creating Sacred Union in Partnerships'. In 2015 she launched her fourth book, ‘The 28 Day Happy Challenge' in the US to raise funds for the rehabilitation of women & children affected by human trafficking. In 2016 she did her first UK speaking tour & was asked to write the book, ‘Goddess Wisdom' for Hay House which is to be released June 2017 along with her ‘Goddess Wisdom' online course. Tanishka has been a popular keynote speaker at conferences & events worldwide & her articles have been published in various national magazines. Her work is distinguished by her gift for channelling ancient wisdom & making it relevant & accessible with her down-to-earth humor.
