Discover real-life stories of healing and how Catholics in Recovery supports those battling addiction through Catholic teaching and community. In my opinion an addiction to money ruined my first marriage. 21:20 – I had traumas in relationships at age 17. Now I'm 64 and I've been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder. He gets very angry and will not listen. Any advice on how we try to reach him? He is a junior in college and lives with us.

This is the last in a series of seven author interviews with the writers of our new book series, “Themes in the Doctrine and Covenants.” I hope you've caught them all, but if not, make sure you listen to all seven. Janiece is a terrific historian who has written about the religious experience of women converts to the Church and about how the earliest Saints understood the Book of Mormon and applied it in their lives. She brings all this historical expertise to her new book, titled simply Revelation.

The Day of Pentecost was one of the many feasts prescribed by God in the Old Covenant for His people to remember His mighty works on their behalf. All of the Old Covenant feasts were types that always pointed to something Christ would later fulfill. Today, we consider the fulfillment of Pentecost on the day of the birth of Christ's Church, His manifest Kingdom on earth as it is in Heaven. At Pentecost, we have been granted the opportunity to live a life as Moses who ascended the mountain, fellowshipped with God, and descended radiating from the glory of the God He has beheld in that blessed fellowship. We have had the fellowship with God restored to us that we lost at the fall of mankind.

Some conversations feel like a hug you didn't know you needed. This is one of them. SJR and Lisa Harper pull up to talk about the kind of grace that finds you in the middle of your mess, the love of God that never walks away, and what it means to grow through criticism without losing your softness. They unpack ministry wounds, performance-based faith, recovering from religious shame, and how to hold your calling without breaking your heart. This episode is a full-circle moment for the girls who've wrestled with not being “enough” for the Church but know they're still called. If you've ever felt like you're building something while battling what's behind you, go ahead and lean into this conversation.

In this episode of Catholic Answers Live, Karlo Broussard answers the questions: Why must Mary have been Immaculately Conceived—couldn't Jesus have been born of a sinner? How does addiction affect the conditions for mortal sin? Karlo discusses the Church's teaching on free will, grave matter, and culpability. He also addresses the claim of annihilationism—does the Bible really support eternal punishment in hell? Plus, is it accurate to call non-Catholics “Christians,” or should we still use the term “heretics”? Join The CA Live Club Newsletter: Click Here Invite our apologists to speak at your parish! Visit Catholicanswersspeakers.com Questions Covered: 12:08 – Why do we say that Mary “must have” been Immaculately conceived? It seems like Jesus could have been born from someone even if they had original sin. 17:00 – How do the three conditions for mortal sin relate to the area of addiction? Can the consent of the will be lessened by an addiction? 29:47 – What is real factual evidence that annihilationism is false, and wrong to believe? 39:23 – I struggle with calling non-Catholics Christians. It doesn't seem to fit with the old style of calling them heretics. 47:12 – My protestant friend has trouble with the idea of praying to the dead. When did the practice begin? And is it in the New Testament? 51:37 – Where in the Bible does it teach against contraception?

This week, Jake and Bob are joined by Fr. John Horn, co-founder of the Institute for Priestly Formation (IPF). Fr. Horn shares details behind how IPF was founded, the significance of St. Ignatius' spiritual exercises in priestly formation, and the beauty of how formation has evolved within the Church. The SSPX Podcast is produced by Angelus Press, which has as its mission the fortification of traditional Catholics so that they can defend the Faith, and reaching out to those who have not yet found Tradition. What is the SSPX? The main goal of the Society of Saint Pius X is to preserve the Catholic Faith in its fullness and purity, to teach its truths, and to diffuse its virtues, especially through the Roman Catholic priesthood. Authentic spiritual life, the sacraments, and the traditional liturgy are its primary means of bringing this life of grace to souls. Although the traditional Latin Mass is the most visible and public expression of the work of the Society, we are committed to defending Catholic Tradition in its entirety: all of Catholic doctrine and morals as the Church has always defended them. In this episode of The Cordial Catholic, I'm joined by Jannah Russell to share her remarkable Catholic conversion story. Raised in the Jehovah's Witness tradition, Jannah explains how her and her husband became disillusioned with the group, eventually leaving, and rediscovering faith on their own. Their journey, ever seeking the truth of Christ and His Church, led them into Evangelical Christianity where experiences around Communion, baptism, and the interpretation of Scripture set off some of the same alarm bells they'd heard as Jehovah's Witnesses – and that compelled them to begin their journey in the first place! Those alarm bells drove them deeper into Scripture, into Church history and the Church Fathers, and from there, the slow realization that maybe, despite their deepest reservations, they needed to explore Catholicism. This is a truly remarkable story and not only because Jannah managed to tell it while single-handedly taking care of 4 kids (because her husband had to work late!) but because it's a kind of microcosm of some of the same issues that comes up in Protestant Christianity writ large – playing out for two Christ-seeking believers leaving the grasp of a pretty intense Christian sect. As between the Septuagint (LXX) and the rabbinic text (MT), there are significant differences in many verses that deal with Christology. The MT is not always ‘less Christological', for that would have been a poor-quality trap, but the proper hermeneutic for determining the text of Scripture is not ‘more Christology'; rather, the right hermeneutic is quite simply: What is Scripture and what does it say? Christ, the Apostles, and the early Church all unanimously held that the Septuagint is, indeed, the very Word of God. In this fourth episode in the (now) nine-episode LXX series, we examine Christological differences between the LXX and the MT. This is the first of three episodes dealing specifically with the Old Testament differences between the LXX and the MT. This is, of course, not our closing argument, for we will be making that in the two episodes that deal with the New Testament and how it treats the Old Testament.
