The CW network is undergoing a significant transformation in its programming lineup, with a notable rollback of its superhero shows that have been a staple for over a decade. During the network's Upfront presentation, Brad Schwartz, The CW's entertainment president, outlined the vision for the future of programming, highlighting a shift away from the superhero genre that helped build the Arrowverse and other series like “Riverdale” and the Nancy Drew reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schwartz acknowledged that while these shows had been the hallmarks of The CW for a long time, they are no longer resonating with the network's linear viewership. He attributed this change to the fact that the young adult audience no longer makes appointments to watch broadcast television. In an effort to attract a broader audience and increase profitability, The CW aims to go bigger and appeal to older viewers. The move is part of a broader strategy to meet the profit goal set by The CW's new owner, Nexstar Media Group. Nexstar primarily owns local TV stations across the country. Interestingly, Tom Carter, Nexstar's president and chief operating officer, shared in a conference call last August that the average age of the CW broadcast viewer is 58 years, as reported by TV Line. This revelation came just before the network's acquisition by Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global, both of which retain minority stakes in The CW. In the first half of 2022, several shows met an abrupt end, including “Legacies,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Batwoman,” the Charmed reboot, and “Dynasty.” Additionally, “Kung Fu,” the Supernatural prequel “The Winchesters,” and “Walker Independence” were also canceled ahead of the May 18 announcement. Last year, it was announced that both “The Flash” and “Riverdale” would conclude with their upcoming final seasons. The fates of “Gotham Knights,” “Superman & Lois,” and “All American: Homecoming” are still uncertain. Schwartz indicated that decisions regarding these shows would come “soon” as the respective companies analyze the costs of producing these “expensive” programs. “We have to be entrepreneurial in the way we look at content,” stated Schwartz. “We can't write a per-episode $10 million check for a show with dragons.” Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Schwartz unveiled upcoming co-productions, including “Joan,” a series starring Sophie Turner as an infamous jewel thief. He also mentioned “The Librarians: The Next Chapter,” a spinoff of the TNT drama, as well as the acquisition of “The Swarm,” a German eco-sci-fi series, and “Sullivan's Crossing,” a Canadian medical drama based on books written by Robyn Carr and starring Chad Michael Murray. Schwartz also expressed excitement about unscripted acquisitions, such as the Max castoff “FBoy Island.” He believes that a bold and impactful unscripted show like “FBoy Island” has the potential to break through and captivate audiences.
With the TV industry adapting to the ever-changing landscape of streaming services, viewers are often left wondering whether their favorite network TV shows are coming back or not. Recently, many network shows have been canceled or ended multi-season runs, while others received early renewals or surprise resurrections. ABC had a relatively modest number of cancellations this season. “Alaska Daily,” “Avalon,” “Big Sky,” “The Company You Keep,” and “The Goldbergs” all got the ax. “A Million Little Things” ended its multi-season run. In terms of renewals, “Abbott Elementary,” “American Idol,” “The Bachelor,” “Celebrity Family Feud,” “Claim to Fame,” “Dancing With the Stars,” “The Good Doctor,” “Grey's Anatomy,” “Press Your Luck,” “The Rookie,” “Station 19,” “Will Trent,” and “The Wonder Years” are all coming back. CBS was busy renewing its shows this season, with many getting the green light. Among those renewed are “48 Hours,” “60 Minutes,” “The Amazing Race,” “Blue Bloods,” “Bob Hearts Abishola,” “CSI: Vegas,” “The Equalizer,” “FBI,” “FBI: International,” “FBI: Most Wanted,” “Fire Country,” “Ghosts,” “Lingo,” “NCIS,” “NCIS: Hawaii,” “The Neighborhood,” “So Help Me Todd,” “Survivor,” “S.W.A.T.,” “Tough as Nails,” and “Young Sheldon.” “East New York” and “True Lies” were canceled, while “NCIS: Los Angeles” ended its run. Over at The CW, “Kung Fu,” “Tom Swift,” “Walker: Independence,” and “The Winchesters” were canceled, while “The Flash,” “Nancy Drew,” “Riverdale,” and “DC's Stargirl” all had their final season orders. “All American” and “Walker” were renewed, while “All American: Homecoming,” “Gotham Knights,” and “Superman & Lois” are still waiting to hear if they will return. Fox canceled “Call Me Kat,” “Fantasy Island,” and “Monarch,” while “9-1-1” moved over to ABC for its seventh season. “The Cleaning Lady,” “The Great North,” “HouseBroken,” “So You Think You Can Dance,” and “Welcome to Flatch” are all waiting to hear their fate. “9-1-1: Lone Star,” “Accused,” “Alert: Missing Persons Unit,” “Animal Control,” “Bob's Burgers,” “Family Guy,” “Grimsburg,” “Krapopolis,” and “The Simpsons” were all renewed. NBC had a mix of cancellations and renewals, with “Call Your Mother,” “Debris,” “Good Girls,” “Law & Order: For the Defense,” “Manifest,” and “Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist” all getting canceled. “Chicago Fire,” “Chicago Med,” “Chicago P.D.,” “La Brea,” “Law & Order,” “Law & Order: Organized Crime,” “Law & Order: SVU,” “Lopez vs. Lopez,” “Magnum P.I.,” “Night Court,” “Password,” “Quantum Leap,” and “The Voice” were all renewed. In conclusion, it's important to stay informed about the TV shows you love, but with the industry shifting toward streaming services, it can be hard to keep up. However, with reliable sources like Entertainment Tonight, viewers can stay on top of whether their favorite shows are canceled or renewed.

No new episode this week but this is definitely one of our favorite conversations. Did you all see Vax that thang up? Buff is not feeling it. Razi thinks it's bad, but he liked "Let me smang it" so we can't trust his taste. Razi and Ferg reminisce about Bagram Air Field as the US closes it down. We discuss All American Homecoming and the HBCU experience. As we jump into the Ferg asks have we ever done everything right in a relationship, what does the phrase "you can do everything right in the relationship and he will still cheat" mean, and how does it affect a relationship. He follows up with, "when is it time to cheat." Razi follows up the question and asks, "why don't women need men?" Buff anchors the questions with a cancel culture question. He wants to know is possible to disagree with a hot topic without the snippet being spun and you end up looking like you are hating. Then you end up cancelled in the wake and is that fair? Enjoy and we will talk to you all next week. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/threebrothersnosense/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/threebrothersnosense/support

Humans can easily distinguish between a zero-chance event (e.g., the Washington Nationals winning the World Series in 2022) and a sure thing (e.g., the sun coming up tomorrow). But in between those two clear outcomes, it turns out that we're not great at estimating odds.In this episode of Choiceology with Katy Milkman, a bias that affects the way we predict the likelihood of rare events.Katia Jordan had all the makings of a tennis star: a preternatural talent, an intense drive to succeed, top-tier coaches, and parents who supported her dream completely. She was certain that she would be the next Venus Williams. But along the way, she discovered that her path to tennis glory was not as straight as she imagined.Katia Jordan is a former Division 1 tennis player and is currently script coordinator on the television program All American Homecoming.Next, Katy speaks with UCLA psychology professor Craig Fox about how we tend to overweight the likelihood of small probabilities. Building on seminal work by his mentor Amos Tversky and Daniel Kahneman, Dr. Fox explains a bias in the way we imagine the odds of rare events and demonstrates approaches gleaned from his research that can help us better avoid distortions in the way we conceptualize risk and reward. Craig Fox is the Harold Williams Chair and Professor of Management at the UCLA Anderson School of Management. Finally, Katy gives examples of the areas in your life where you can save money, improve health, and avoid some anxiety by better understanding the true likelihood of rare events.Choiceology is an original podcast from Charles Schwab. Note: At the top of the episode, Sabrina says Tom Swift premieres on Monday. That's incorrect. The series premieres Tuesday, May 31 at 9 p.m. ET on The CW. Happy Tom Swift premiere day! Sabrina Reed, Michael Patterson, and Reed Gaudens are along for the ride with this Nancy Drew spin-off which means they've officially kicked off their Drew Crew era...kind of. They've seen his intro episode, but it's a start. Let them tell it, Tom's the new icon in town, The CW has a star in Tian Richards, and Ashleigh Murray is getting everything she deserves as Zenzi Fullerton. Also on deck: CW news including Charisma Carpenter's upcoming role on Dynasty, Michael and Sabrina are finally back to their The Flash reviews (Also, #LetIrIsBeGreat is a campaign they're promoting. All love always to Candice Patton), Reed has a Dynasty update, and Sabrina didn't catch up on All American and All American: Homecoming like she promised BUT she did watch the finales. Reed is living for confusing paternity drama happening at Bringston University while Sabrina's been left with questions. Good thing the show has a season 2! The All American spin-off All American: Homecoming debuts, taking place at a fictional HBCU and following rising tennis and baseball stars; Morena Baccarin and Ryan Michelle Bathé star in NBC's new thriller The Endgame, as a criminal mastermind and FBI agent, respectively — Bathé tells us what makes this series different from other cop-and-crime shows; and America's Got Talent is back, but with an Extreme spin, where contestants are engaging in dangerous, high-flying acts. Netta Walker, one of the stars of All-American: Homecoming and a stage actor who spent time in Chicago, discusses how her stage experience compares with her TV experience, and, amazingly, how one of her early formative experiences was with the Reduced Shakespeare Company (!). FEATURING: her debut on the stage of Lincoln Center; where she got her early professional experience; being blessed with supportive parents; the value of seeing Shakespeare performed (even by us) before studying it as literature; being part of the original cast of Lauren Gunderson and Margot Melcon's The Wickhams: Christmas at Pemberley; how to avoid the stress of trying to guess what a director wants in an audition; and where she gets her (for want of a better word) confidence. (Length 16:07) The post Netta Walker's ‘Homecoming' appeared first on Reduced Shakespeare Company.

Nadine Ellis is an in-demand actress who currently stars in the FOX series, Our Kind of People. In the soapy and thrilling drama, Nadine plays Leah Franklin-Dupont, a strong, confident, elegant businesswoman who sits at the top of the food chain of the wealthy, long-standing Black elite in Martha's Vineyard. The show follows a single mom, Angela Vaughn, who risks it all and moves her family to Martha's Vineyard with hopes of reclaiming her family's name by taking her natural hair care line to the next while infiltrating the African American elite in Oak Bluffs. Leah is wary of Angela and will do anything to protect her family's reputation and name. Prior to Our Kind of People, Nadine was a series regular on BET's comedy Let's Stay Together as Dr. Stacy Lawrence and Netflix's The Greenhouse Academy as Judy Hayword; and recurred on Showtime's Shameless as Dr. Brenda Williams. Earlier this year, Nadine starred in the backdoor pilot for the upcoming CW series All American: Homecoming, playing Ms. Sims, the mother of an up-and-coming college baseball player. The Queens-native got her start in the entertainment industry as a professional dancer. Throughout her successful dance career, Nadine performed with Beyoncé at the VMAs; starred in the film Hairspray as the lead of the Supremes-like group, the Dynamites; and was one of the original cat Dolls.
Daniel José Molina (who's appeared on the podcast discussing his performances of Hal in both parts of Henry IV and Henry V), discusses playing the even more difficult role of Edgar in the St. Louis Shakespeare Festival production of King Lear starring Andre De Shields. Daniel reveals the challenge of playing a purely reactive character; the value of recognizing that Edgar only realizes when it's almost too late what play he's in; the trick of honoring Shakespeare's intent to make ‘Poor Tom' a crude performance, not a Daniel Day-Lewis transformation; the tricky irony of when performed mental illness meets genuine decline; gives a shout-out to Leland Fowler, who played one of the best bastards ever; a special appearance from Netta Walker, one of the stars of the upcoming CW series All-American: Homecoming; a preview of Daniel's next Shakespeare challenge; and, ultimately, how Edgar is actually four or five characters in one. (Length 24:18) The post King Lear's Edgar appeared first on Reduced Shakespeare Company.
He follows up with, "when is it time to cheat." Razi follows up the question and asks, "why doesn't women need men?" Buff anchors the questions with a cancel culture question. He wants to know is possible to disagree with a hot topic without the snippet being spun and you end up looking like you are hating. Then you end up cancelled in the wake and is that fair? We dedicate the episode to Dr. Frederick Humphries. --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/threebrothersnosense/message Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/threebrothersnosense/support
