A New Mexico refugee student trafficked by her sponsor family. Young women with no family support, taken advantage of on the streets of Albuquerque. It was personal stories like those and unforeseen encounters with human trafficking victims that led Shelley Repp to an unexpected calling - now leading the New Mexico Dream Center, a nonprofit in Albuquerque focused on outreach, services, and prevention for trafficking victims. Repp was recently recognized for Nexstar Media Group's 2025 'Remarkable Women' contest. She joins Chris and Gabby this week to discuss what led her to this work and how prevalent the issue of human trafficking in New Mexico is. She also offers insight into a part of society online that she claims parents need to know about. We appreciate our listeners. Combs asserts that these allegations are entirely fabricated and have caused significant harm to his reputation and economic interests.Combs' legal team contends that the defendants' actions were part of a deliberate effort to damage his public image and undermine his right to a fair trial, especially in light of his upcoming court proceedings on unrelated charges. Sean "Diddy" Combs' legal team has strongly criticized the Investigation Discovery (ID) documentary series "The Fall of Diddy," which features allegations of misconduct against the music mogul. In response to claims made by former Vibe editor-in-chief Danyel Smith—who alleges that Combs threatened her during a dispute over a magazine cover—Combs' attorneys have dismissed these accusations as "pure fiction." They argue that the narrative presented in the documentary misrepresents the 30-year professional relationship between Smith and Combs. Furthermore, Combs' legal representatives contend that the producers of the documentary failed to provide sufficient time or details for his team to address the unsubstantiated claims, many of which come from unidentified participants whose allegations lack context. They assert that by withholding this information, the producers made it impossible for Combs to present facts to counter these fabricated accusations, resulting in a one-sided and prejudicial narrative. Additionally, Combs' legal team has filed a $50 million defamation lawsuit against Courtney Burgess, her attorney Ariel Mitchell, and Nexstar Media Group, the parent company of NewsNation. The lawsuit alleges that the defendants fabricated and amplified false claims for financial gain, including allegations involving sex tapes with celebrities and minors, which were broadcasted by NewsNation without proper due diligence. Combs claims these actions have caused him economic and reputational harm and affected his right to a fair trial. featured Wiki of the Day

fWotD Episode 2498: KCPQ Welcome to featured Wiki of the Day where we read the summary of the featured Wikipedia article every day.The featured article for Thursday, 7 March 2024 is KCPQ.KCPQ (channel 13) is a television station licensed to Tacoma, Washington, United States, serving as the Fox network outlet for the Seattle area. It is owned and operated by the network's Fox Television Stations division alongside MyNetworkTV station KZJO (channel 22). The two stations share studios on Westlake Avenue in Seattle's Westlake neighborhood; KCPQ's main transmitter is located on Gold Mountain in Bremerton. The station signed on in August 1953 as KMO-TV, the television outgrowth of Tacoma radio station KMO. It was briefly an NBC network affiliate until another Seattle station signed on; the next year, KMO radio and television were sold to separate owners. The Seattle broadcaster J. Elroy McCaw bought channel 13, changed the call letters to KTVW, and ran it as an independent station. While KTVW produced a number of local programs, McCaw, a famously parsimonious owner, never converted the station to broadcast in color, and its syndicated programming inventory was considered meager. McCaw died in August 1969; three years later, his estate sold the station to the Blaidon Mutual Investors Corporation. While Blaidon tried several new programs and began color telecasting, the station continued to underperform financially. Two attempts to sell KTVW to out-of-state buyers failed because of its high liabilities. After a walkout by employees in January and the appointment of a receiver in July, KTVW was ordered closed on December 12, 1974.The Clover Park School District in Lakewood purchased KTVW at bankruptcy auction in 1975. The station returned to the air on a non-commercial basis as KCPQ in January 1976, serving as an effective replacement for Clover Park's UHF station, KPEC-TV (channel 56). Changes to the structure of school financing in Washington and the refusal of voters to approve bonds to rebuild Clover Park High School forced the school district to sell KCPQ back into commercial use. After being off the air for most of 1980 to relocate its transmitter, KCPQ returned under new owner Kelly Broadcasting, who rebuilt it as a more competitive independent station. During Kelly's 19-year ownership of KCPQ, the station became a Fox affiliate, relocated its studios from Lakewood to Seattle, and established its present local news department.KCPQ was sold to Tribune Broadcasting in 1999 as part of Kelly's exit from the broadcasting industry. As Tribune expanded the station's news output, it also had to fend off overtures by Fox, which had sought to own KCPQ on several occasions since the 1990s and at one point threatened to buy another station to broadcast Fox programming. Tribune was purchased by Nexstar Media Group in 2019; Nexstar then traded KCPQ to Fox as part of an exchange of Fox affiliates in three cities. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 00:46 UTC on Thursday, 7 March 2024.For the full current version of the article, see KCPQ on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm Justin Standard.

Narrated by six-time Golden Globe and two-time Primetime Emmy award winning actress, Sarah Jessica Parker, “Honorable but Broken” raises awareness of the systemic collapse of EMS and advocates for change. In this episode of the EMS One-Stop podcast, host Rob Lawrence chats with producer Bryony Gilbey about the documentary that is now completed and available for streaming. Gilbey hopes the impactful, hard-hitting documentary will serve as a briefing and education tool for our elected officials and members of the general public. As Gilbey notes, “It's no good any longer just throwing up your hands and saying that's just the way EMS is; it's no good saying it's someone else's problem; it's something we all need to work on, as a civilized society we need to address this issue and we need to do it quickly.” The 60-minute documentary is now available on demand, streamed by Prodigy EMS and it is hoped that it will be used at local, state and national levels to bring attention to the issues we are facing. Top quotes from this episode “I expected to tell a story; I did not think that it would have quite this reaction” — Bryony Gilbey “We now all have not many degrees of separation to somebody who has had some sort of PTSD, who has had to leave the job because of the pressures of work and dare I say ultimately taken their lives and that is incredibly sad.” — Rob Lawrence “It all comes down to three words – all in favor – if we don't get the vote, we don't get the money, we don't get the change.” — Rob Lawrence Episode contents 00:48 – Documentary teaser 01:18 – Introduction/Bryony Gilbey 02:16 – The “Honorable but Broken” back story 05:46 – How did Gilbey view EMS and its issues 08:15 – The finished product and how can we view it 10:24 – A federal screening on Capitol Hill 11:30 – Reaction from elected officials 13:16 – John Mondello/emotional trauma 14:00 – Eileen Mondello – John's mother 15:25 – Reaction to Eileen Mondello – “It never gets easier' 17:00 – He wasn't the first, he isn't the only and sadly he won't be the last 22:00 – Other featured speakers in the documentary and their powerful messages 22:30 – Recruitment, retention and retirement 24:35 – What is the cost of a human life to a politician? 26:25 – Educating the legislators and the public 28:00 – The cost of readiness 29:05 – Reimbursement doesn't add up 31:00 – The hospital side of things – Beckers Review on Hospital closures and adding to ambulance and hospital deserts 31:30 – Call to action and the legislative agenda 35:30 – Sarah Jessica Parker 39:00 – How and where to view via Prodigy EMS 39:50 – Final thoughts About our guest With a prolific career spanning several decades, Bryony Gilbey is a seasoned director, producer and freelance writer/editor, distinguished for crafting compelling narratives across various media platforms. The CW Is Shifting Away From Superhero Shows

The CW network is undergoing a significant transformation in its programming lineup, with a notable rollback of its superhero shows that have been a staple for over a decade. During the network's Upfront presentation, Brad Schwartz, The CW's entertainment president, outlined the vision for the future of programming, highlighting a shift away from the superhero genre that helped build the Arrowverse and other series like “Riverdale” and the Nancy Drew reboot. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Schwartz acknowledged that while these shows had been the hallmarks of The CW for a long time, they are no longer resonating with the network's linear viewership. He attributed this change to the fact that the young adult audience no longer makes appointments to watch broadcast television. In an effort to attract a broader audience and increase profitability, The CW aims to go bigger and appeal to older viewers. The move is part of a broader strategy to meet the profit goal set by The CW's new owner, Nexstar Media Group. Nexstar primarily owns local TV stations across the country. Interestingly, Tom Carter, Nexstar's president and chief operating officer, shared in a conference call last August that the average age of the CW broadcast viewer is 58 years, as reported by TV Line. This revelation came just before the network's acquisition by Warner Bros. Discovery and Paramount Global, both of which retain minority stakes in The CW. In the first half of 2022, several shows met an abrupt end, including “Legacies,” “Legends of Tomorrow,” “Batwoman,” the Charmed reboot, and “Dynasty.” Additionally, “Kung Fu,” the Supernatural prequel “The Winchesters,” and “Walker Independence” were also canceled ahead of the May 18 announcement. Last year, it was announced that both “The Flash” and “Riverdale” would conclude with their upcoming final seasons. The fates of “Gotham Knights,” “Superman & Lois,” and “All American: Homecoming” are still uncertain. Schwartz indicated that decisions regarding these shows would come “soon” as the respective companies analyze the costs of producing these “expensive” programs. “We have to be entrepreneurial in the way we look at content,” stated Schwartz. “We can't write a per-episode $10 million check for a show with dragons.” Looking ahead to the 2024 season, Schwartz unveiled upcoming co-productions, including “Joan,” a series starring Sophie Turner as an infamous jewel thief. He also mentioned “The Librarians: The Next Chapter,” a spinoff of the TNT drama, as well as the acquisition of “The Swarm,” a German eco-sci-fi series, and “Sullivan's Crossing,” a Canadian medical drama based on books written by Robyn Carr and starring Chad Michael Murray. Schwartz also expressed excitement about unscripted acquisitions, such as the Max castoff “FBoy Island.” He believes that a bold and impactful unscripted show like “FBoy Island” has the potential to break through and captivate audiences.

The CW is at a crossroads. Launched in 2006 by both CBS and Warner Bros, Nexstar Media Group is now the majority owner of America's fifth broadcast network.A lot of The CW's legacy shows -- Supernatural, Batwoman, Charmed, Legends of Tomorrow -- have been canceled. Longtime network head Mark Pedowitz has retired. The search was on for a new visionary leader.Enter Brad Schwartz, the clever Canadian who put the pop in Pop TV with the acquisition of CBC's Schitt's Creek. The Dan and Eugene Levy sitcom won nine Emmys in 2020, leading Pop to more wins that year than any other networks save HBO and Netflix. On the zoom call for this podcast, Toronto native Schwartz proudly showed his Canadian allegiance by sporting a Tragically Hip hoodie. He talks about interning on Saturday Night Live at 21 and learning from the master: Lorne Michaels. Schwartz later paid his dues as SVP and GM for the Much MTV Canada Group. Mentoring him there were Bell bosses Ivan Fecan and Susanne Boyce, with Boyce urging him to "Take Canada to the world."He took those lessons back to the States at the TV Guide Channel, helping to turn it into Pop TV. His new challenge: President of Entertainment Division at The CW.Does this mean more Canadian shows could soon be enjoying some southern exposure? Listen as Schwartz shares his thoughts.

Hiking trails include a self-guided nature trail and a 6.4-mile hiking trail that takes visitors into the surrounding wilderness to view wildlife such as deer, ducks and rabbits. During the winter months, wintering golden and bald eagles can be seen soaring overhead.   Wister is located in central Leflore County and in the northern portion of the Ouachita National Forest near Lake Wister, US Highways 271 and 270 pass through the town. This week I'm continuing a run of discussions with people operating the publications that sit at the nexus of power and politics. Punchbowl has had a successful launch as one of the new crop of publishers. Check out the episode, and if you're not already, please subscribe on Apple or Spotify. Also, please leave a rating and review if you use Apple. Washington D.C. has long been a company town, only the company in question is the sprawling federal government, its various apparatuses – and those who influence them. It's no surprise then that the once-sleepy media business around the government has become one of the most vibrant areas of growth in digital publishing. Consider:Axel Springer ponied up $1 billion to acquire Politico last August.Axios has pulled off one of the most successful early runs for a media company in its first five years, with a valuation of $430 million. The Hill was bought by Nexstar Media Group for $131 million last August.Grid News recently raised $10 million in venture funding.Add in Punchbowl, a year-old media startup founded by Politico veterans. Jake Sherman, a co-founder of Punchbowl, wrote Politico's flagship newsletter, Playbook, along with fellow co-founder Anna Palmer. (John Bresnahan, the former Congressional bureau chief for Politico, is the third co-founder.)While some digital media startups go to great pains to hang their differentiation on a new format or approach or business model, Punchbowl''s model is fairly straightforward. It is going to out-report its competition and be a must-read for those who need to keep up with the ebb and flow of legislation on Capitol Hill. While many outlets wander to focus on the White House, Punchbowl is squarely focused on the legislative branch.“We know we know the audience, we know what they're interested in, we understand the business model, we have ambitions,” said Sherman, speaking from his office at the Capitol during a week when the legislature was in recess. “We felt like we had the playbook, so to speak.”So far, so good. Punchbowl reached $10 million in revenue in its first year, with $1 million coming from subscriptions and the rest from sponsorships bought by trade groups and companies looking to get their public affairs messaging in front of those making and influencing policy. That's with a team of 10.Jake and I discussed how Punchbowl differentiates by using the Capitol as its lens, how being entrenched alongside the audience helped, and why ads and subscriptions can work well together. (Answers have been edited and condensed for clarity.)Focusing on the CapitolAs Trump and Biden have learned, the presidency's powers are limited when it comes to passing legislation that reflects the president's priorities. For Punchbowl, named after the Secret Service code name for the Capitol, the focus is on the legislative process, in particular the priorities of the leadership of both parties.“I'v
