On the Evolving Wellness podcast, host Sarah interviews her co-coach Becky about menopause and weight loss, focusing on simple behaviors that sabotage progress and the importance of addressing root causes. Becky shares her history of dieting (including Weight Watchers, keto, and 2.5 years of carnivore), a complete hysterectomy at 29 that put her into surgical menopause, intolerance to HRT, and struggles with insulin-resistant weight gain and Hashimoto's that did not improve on long-term carnivore. She describes improvements after reintroducing foods, implementing circadian practices, balancing macros (including adding carbs), focusing on nervous system regulation, and using lab work to guide medication changes, leading to Hashimoto's remission and nearly 63 pounds lost while maintaining muscle. They emphasize consistency over perfection, honest self-assessment, community support, and the roles of light, sleep, and adequate nourishment, and promote an info session and upcoming Blueprint cohort starting June 22.— THE BIO-INDIVIDUAL BLUEPRINT INFO SESSION - https://www.sarahkleinerwellness.com/blueprint-live-info-sessionConnect With Becky:Website / Coaching: https://beyondnutrition.mykajabi.com/becky-niles-coachingAffilate Links: https://beyondnutrition.mykajabi.com/coach-becky-s-affiliate-thingsCommunity: https://beyondnutrition.mykajabi.com/Becky Sarah Kleiner Wellness Coaching: https://www.sarahkleinerwellness.com/offers/roupFwau/checkoutSocial MediaX / Twitter: @nilesbecky Instagram: @iambeckyniles Facebook:Becky Niles CoachingThreads: @iambeckynilesTikTok: @iambeckynilesYouTube: Beyond Nutrition CommunityLinkedIn: Becky Niles Pinterest: @iambeckyniles_________Sponsored By:→ VivaRays | This episode is sponsored by VivaRays - VivaRays Blue - code YOGI https://vivarays.com/→ Bon Charge | Go to https://boncharge.com/products/demi-red-light-device?rfsn=8108115.26608d & use code SARAHKLEINER for 15% off storewide._________Timestamp:00:00 Hidden Sabotage Habits00:53 Show Intro and Guest04:27 Becky's Health Journey05:47 Surgical Menopause and HRT07:02 Carnivore Experiment Lessons10:57 Circadian Shift and Remission13:51 Blue Blockers Sponsor15:20 Labs and Individual Protocols21:59 Red Light Office Sponsor24:22 Nervous System and Honesty28:28 Light Stress and Willpower30:06 Morning Cortisol Levers30:26 Blue Light Risky Choices31:17 Accountability And Support32:23 Keto Carnivore Rebound33:46 Seasonal Eating Signals35:03 Consistency Over Perfection36:55 Community Beats Loneliness38:33 Menopause Weight Loss Truth44:54 Undereating Conservation Mode51:44 Circadian Rhythm Fat Loss53:04 Coaching Invite And Wrap54:52 Real Stories Final Message——— This video is not medical advice & as a supporter to you and your health journey - I encourage you to monitor your labs and work with a professional!________________________________________Get all my free guides and product recommendations to get started on your journey!https://www.sarahkleinerwellness.com/all-free-resourcesCheck out all my courses to understand how to improve your mitochondrial health & experience long lasting health! "For years I believed happiness lived in a smaller body. What I finally learned was that healing my relationship with myself was the real transformation." -Lauren Rojas What if the hardest part of weight loss isn't the food—it's the emotional story you've been carrying your entire life? In this powerful episode of Turmeric & Tequila, Kristen Olson sits down with wellness coach Lauren Rojas to discuss her 30+ year journey through diet culture, emotional eating, weight loss surgery, food addiction recovery, and ultimately finding peace with her body. Lauren shares what it was like growing up overweight, beginning diets at just 10 years old, and spending decades chasing the belief that happiness lived in a smaller body. From Weight Watchers and fad diets to food addiction programs, CrossFit, and bariatric surgery, Lauren reveals the lessons she learned along the way and how she now helps women transform their relationship with food, body image, and self-worth. Together, Kristen and Lauren explore the impact of reality television, The Biggest Loser, social pressure, emotional eating, body acceptance, self-awareness, and the importance of reconnecting mind, body, and spirit. This conversation is for anyone who has ever struggled with food, body image, perfectionism, shame, or the belief that they are somehow "not enough." In This Episode: • Lauren's lifelong battle with weight and dieting • Growing up in the height of diet culture • Why attaching worth to weight can be so damaging • Weight Watchers, fad diets, and food addiction recovery • The Biggest Loser and the impact of reality TV on body image • Emotional eating and the shame cycle • Weight loss surgery as a tool—not a solution • Intuitive eating and self-awareness practices • Breaking free from guilt around food • Building a healthier relationship with yourself TIMESTAMPS: 00:00 Welcome & Sponsor Shoutouts 01:18 Meet Lauren Rojas 02:35 Growing Up Overweight & Starting Diets at Age 10 05:20 Attaching Self-Worth to Weight Loss 08:00 Weight Watchers, Diet Culture & Childhood Experiences 11:00 Fad Diets, Food Rules & Extreme Weight Loss Attempts 15:00 The Moment Lauren Realized Dieting Wasn't the Answer 17:40 Food Addiction Recovery & Losing 100 Pounds 21:00 Gaining the Weight Back & Emotional Struggles 24:00 Weight Loss Surgery as a Tool for Change 27:30 Turning Pain into Purpose Through Coaching 30:00 The Biggest Loser, Reality TV & Body Image Expectations 34:00 Public Attention, Anxiety & Emotional Eating 37:00 Mindset, Awareness & Healing the Relationship with Food 41:00 Food Addiction vs. Food Freedom 45:00 Self-Love, Awareness & Sustainable Wellness 48:00 Lauren's Coaching Approach & Final Takeaways Lauren Rojas is a wellness coach for women who have used the tool of weight loss surgery or a GLP-1 to lose the weight, but know the real work is emotional and mental. Content warning: this episode includes a personal account of sexual assault. Most of us can pinpoint the exact moment we stopped feeling at home in our bodies and it's almost never about weight. Daffnee shares when she first became "aware of her body," and it reframes the entire conversation about why so many women grew up shrinking themselves. From looksmaxing in 2026 to Weight Watchers at 12, this episode goes deep on body image, where it actually comes from, and what it costs us. Daffnee and Torri also get honest about where they are right now: the peace, the progress, and the Greek yogurt they almost felt guilty eating. Plus, how they're talking to their kids about bodies differently and why it matters more than we think. This one's personal. Hit play. Stephen Lewis, who once made Time magazine's list of the world's 100 most influential people, was a humanitarian and ambassador who led Ontario's NDP before pushing the world to help millions of HIV/AIDS patients in Africa obtain life-saving medicine. His passing on Mar. 31 prompted an outpouring of tributes from global leaders and African grandmothers alike. Hours before Lewis died, at the age of 88, he was able to watch his son, Avi, continue the family's political legacy by being elected as the new federal NDP leader. Lewis is just one of several noteworthy Canadian Jews to have passed away recently. The CJN's obituary columnist, Heather Ringel, joins North Star host Ellin Bessner on today's episode to reveal how Lewis and this spring's four other featured “Honourable Menschen” gave back to their communities. The others include Wolf Bronet, the Auschwitz survivor who founded Montreal's “Wolf Pack” running club and helped raise funds for 14 ambulances for Israel through Magen David Adom; Sara Vered, who fought in Israel's War of Independence before helping bring Israeli and Jewish culture to Ottawa through education, the arts and philanthropy; Al Osten, the former singer who built a Weight Watchers empire in Western Canada and donated millions, alongside his late partner Buddy Victor; and Sondra Gotlieb, the Winnipeg-born journalist and author whose sharp observations made her one of the most recognizable Canadian voices in Washington diplomacy and media circles. In this episode of The Love Yourself Thin Podcast, Dara continues her powerful series on the hidden history of diet culture and weight loss. Last week, we explored the blueprint of shame. This week, we uncover the control trap. Why have so many women stopped trusting themselves around food? Why do we believe an app, a diet book, or a set of food rules knows our body better than we do? Dara walks through the history of weight loss culture—from the first diet book in 1863 to calorie counting, slimming clubs, diet pills, Weight Watchers, processed food marketing, and today's GLP-1 era—to reveal how the diet industry slowly trained women to distrust their own hunger, body, and intuition. If you've spent decades starting over every Monday, following someone else's rules, and feeling like you "fail" when you can't keep up, this episode will help you understand why. This conversation is especially for women over 50 who are tired of dieting, tired of obsessing over food, and ready to create permanent weight loss by healing the deeper patterns underneath emotional eating, perfectionism, procrastination, and people-pleasing. In this episode, Dara discusses: ✨ The first diet book and how weight loss became rule-based ✨ Why diet culture teaches women to distrust themselves ✨ The connection between control, shame, and food ✨ How calorie counting changed women's relationship with eating ✨ The rise of slimming clubs, diet pills, and public weigh-ins ✨ Why food rules often become emotional "buffers" ✨ The difference between external control and self-governance ✨ How emotional eating is often about safety, not food ✨ Why lasting weight loss starts with trust, not restriction Dara also shares personal insights about growing up as a people-pleaser, how food became emotional protection, and why learning to feel emotions instead of controlling them changed everything. If you're ready to stop fighting yourself and finally understand the real reason weight loss has felt so hard, this episode is for you. Brandy Lynn Hall was a 32-year-old firefighter and mother of two from Brevard County, Florida, who vanished on the evening of August 17th, 2006, after leaving her volunteer fire station in Malabar. The next day, her prized green pickup truck was found deliberately submerged in a nearby pond with a significant amount of her blood inside but no trace of Brandy herself. As time went on, scattered personal items surfaced miles away, but no body, no clear timeline, and no definitive suspect ever emerged. Despite connections to her husband's recent drug case, a long-term affair with a fellow firefighter, and a series of investigative missteps, Brandy's disappearance remains one of Florida's most mystifying unsolved cases. Mathilde shares her journey into intermittent fasting, which began in July 2019 after discovering the concept through a yoga group discussion. Initially skeptical due to her father's extreme fasting practices, Mathilde was inspired to try intermittent fasting after reading Gin's book Delay, Don't Deny. Her first 20-hour fast marked the beginning of a transformative journey, leading her to embrace the lifestyle fully.Mathilde discusses the cultural influences on her dietary habits, growing up in a French-influenced environment where being slim was emphasized. She recounts her experiences with various diets, including Weight Watchers, and how intermittent fasting offered her a sense of freedom and control over her eating habits. Mathilde highlights the mental clarity and energy she gained from fasting, as well as the ability to listen to her body's needs, which has helped her maintain her goal weight effortlessly.Throughout the episode, Mathilde emphasizes the importance of getting rid of the "diet brain" and trusting the process of intermittent fasting. She shares her advice for new fasters, encouraging them to breathe, be patient, and allow the magic of intermittent fasting to work. Mathilde's journey is a testament to the transformative power of intermittent fasting, offering listeners inspiration and practical insights into adopting this lifestyle.Join Gin in the new Fast Feast Repeat app for The Grown-Up Year: 52 Weeks to Listen, Play, and Nourish, as well as a growing collection of intermittent fasting resources. Hey friend—okay I know what you might be thinking…another weight loss story? But hear me out—this one is different. This is a real, raw, deeply human conversation with Julianne, one of my Yummy Mummy clients, and her story is going to hit you right in the heart.Because this isn't just about losing 24 pounds (which she did
What if you haven't failed at something once or twice — you've been failing at the same thing for decades? Last week was public failure. This week it's private, repeated, long-term failure. And it's harder in a different way. For me, that thing is weight. I've been trying to lose it since I was a child. And what I eventually figured out about all those attempts changed the entire way I look at failure.Private Failure Has Its Own WeightNo one sees you stepping on the scale at six in the morning. No one sees the attempt that was working until it stopped. The people in your corner see the headlines — a good week, twenty pounds gone — but not the daily private reality. Private failure is lonely. And the accumulation of it can start to feel like evidence that you are simply broken in this one particular way.The Fresh Start TrapOur culture loves the clean-slate story. But fresh starts often require throwing away everything learned from the last attempt. Jenny Craig out, Weight Watchers in — and you're back at the beginning, carrying nothing forward. After years of this, Jill realized: what if the knowledge from the last attempt was actually valuable? What if she didn't need to start over — she just needed to iterate?Building a Toolkit from Every AttemptEvery attempt gave her something: the trainer fourteen years ago taught fitness science she still uses today. Weight Watchers gave her a food framework she still applies. Every time she thought she was starting over, she was actually carrying something forward — a principle that had become second nature, a piece of self-knowledge she didn't have before, a habit that had quietly snuck in.The Wrong Question — and the Right One'Why can't I make this happen?' assumes the problem is willpower or discipline. But what if something else is actually going wrong — something metabolic, hormonal, or structural — that no amount of grit can fix? Changing the question from 'what's wrong with me' to 'what is actually going wrong' opens a completely different door.Iteration Is Not Failure on RepeatIteration is progress. It's what happens when you make small incremental adjustments and try again — not a complete overhaul, just a nudge here and a nudge there. Every attempt is a little better than the last. You're not the person who keeps failing at the same thing. You're the person who keeps iterating on a hard problem. And you are not done yet.ClosingWhen you look at a long history of attempts, the thing that's actually happening is not an unbroken record of failure. It's an unbroken record of getting back up. That stubbornness — the quiet, unglamorous stubbornness of refusing to stay down — is actually the thing. Next week we talk about what happens when those iterations finally reach the right conditions.Jill's Linkshttp://jillfromthenorthwoods.comhttps://www.youtube.com/@startwithsmallstepshttps://www.buymeacoffee.com/startwithsmallstepshttps://twitter.com/schmernEmail the podcast at jill@startwithsmallsteps.comBy choosing to watch this video or listen to this podcast, you acknowledge that you are doing so of your own free will. Christine spent 30 years trapped in the cycle of yo-yo dieting. She tried everything from Weight Watchers to a hospital-supervised liquid protein program. But nobody ever taught her why her body was working against her. In this episode, Christine opens up about growing up on the Standard American Diet (SAD), the childhood bullying that shaped her relationship with food, and how she reached 230 pounds. It was when she began to understand the role of insulin, carbohydrate intolerance, and emotional eating in her health struggles that her life changed. But Christine's story doesn't stop at weight loss. She shares how a renewed daily Bible practice transformed her spiritual life and helped her realize she had been filling the "holes in her soul" with food — and how that breakthrough became the foundation of her coaching methodology for Christian women.Find Christine's work here.To get personalized guidance to stop emotional eating and break free from sugar cravings, plus support and accountability... apply here to join the 90-day program, Freedom from Cravings Formula TODAY. The quality of calories matters to your health. (8:00) What you eat determines what your body does. (11:15) There is a limit to how much you should eat, however. (12:00) Natural foods trigger satiety; ultra-processed foods mess with the body's natural signaling hormones. There are three types of hunger: homeostatic (physical), hedonic (emotional), and conditioned (social). (17:00) Food companies, over the years, have developed ways to keep you eating, even when your body isn't truly hungry. (27:00) Many foods trigger a conditioned response. The term "food noise" is all over the place. Once you get your hormones working properly through low-carb, "food noise" goes away. (31:00) The process isn't overnight, but it will happen. Dr. Fung offers his thoughts on "food noise." (33:00) So much of our eating today is driven by conditioned responses and activities paired with food. GLP1s Are Not Magic GLP-1 naturally occurs in the body, and certain foods like protein and fiber will trigger it properly in your body. But the medical doses administered pharmacologically are massive and squelch all hunger signals. The biggest problem with exogenous GLP-1s is the loss of your body's ability to learn and respond to proper hunger signals. (36:30) Another issue is that it can also dull *everything* else in life, too. (40:00) They are a tool, not a magic bullet. Oftentimes, when a person stops the drug, they often gain even more fat than before. (42:00) There is, of course, the concern of muscle loss as well. If you are already fighting sarcopenia and add GLP-1s, there could be serious issues to follow. (43:00) Vinnie discusses "eating through" both bariatric surgery and now the GLP-1 meds. (46:00) These drugs can be effective, but there is always a cost. They discuss the transition Weight Watchers made when it entered the GLP-1 market. (54:00) They discuss other peptides and whether or not they are beneficial. (57:00) They discuss other "miracle cure" trends. What you *can* do is trust real food! At one point in time not too long ago, Weight Watchers was the legacy name in weight loss treatment. Armed with an endorsement from board member Oprah Winfrey, everything was turning up Weight Watchers – until it wasn't.. Usurped by powerful weight loss drugs manufactured by Eli Lilly and Novo Nordisk – along with ascendant telehealth firms like Ro, Hims & Hers, and Noom – Weight Watchers went into significant decline. Ultimately, even Oprah left the company and donated her shares. In May 2025, Weight Watchers filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in order to eliminate around $1.5 billion in debt. It emerged from bankruptcy in July and now has its sights set on repositioning itself as a key player in the GLP-1 age. But what is Weight Watchers' function in 2026? This week, managing editor Jack O'Brien is joined by Scott Honken, PharmD, chief commercial officer at Weight Watchers, for an update on the company's current standing in the GLP-1 landscape, where it's been and where it's going. In lieu of our Trends segment, we have some audio takeouts from Jack's time at SXSW, featuring leaders from Amgen, Marina Maher Communications and Compass Pathways. Why do so many diets seem to work at first… but still leave women stuck? In this episode, I'm breaking down the difference between following food rules and actually understanding nutrition. From Beachbody containers to Weight Watchers points and other simplified diet systems, I'm talking about why these methods can create short-term results while failing to teach women what their body truly needs long-term.I'm also sharing a personal realization I had while measuring food and looking at nutrition labels — and how understanding calories, macros, portions, and protein changes everything when your goal is real body change. If you are tired of bouncing between plans, feeling “good” only when you are on a diet, and starting over every time a program ends, this episode is for you.Episode Recap:Why diets work in the short term but fail in the long termMy experience with Beachbody containers and what they did not teach meHow Weight Watchers points and other diet systems do the same thingWhy following food rules is not the same as understanding nutritionWhy calories, macros, portions, and protein matter for body goalsThe difference between structure, education, and true food confidenceLinks/Resources:Join the Spring Mini-ChallengeGrab your FREE Body Recomp Meal Prep and get the UFYF NewsletterSHOP my favorite Protein, EAA's and Creatine!Listen to my other podcast: Girls with OpinionsJoin FIT CLUB, my monthly membership with workouts you can do at home or the gymPRIVATE COACHING is my 1:1 program (choose 3 or 6 month option)Connect with me on Instagram @kristycastillofit and @unfuckyourfitnesspodcast so we can keep this conversation going-be sure to tag me in your posts and stories!Join my FREE Facebook group, Unf*ck Your FitnessClick HERE for my favorite fitness & life things!Send me a text with episode ideas or just to say hi! This week Kelli and Troy decide to take a break from the rot and talk about the relationship between Ryan Seacrest and Julianne Hough. The two take turns reading very 2010s-coded articles about them “gushing” over each other. Honestly, they might have been the original Nick and Priyanka of the E! News era.
