“There was no way I was going to sign a statement saying that I was racist or that all white people were racist or that all of any race was anything. So I refused to sign it.” Nicole Levitt, an attorney who represents domestic violence survivors, recently filed a discrimination complaint against her employer, Women Against Abuse, for, among other things, asking white staffers to sign declarations that all white people are racist, including themselves, she says. She shares her story with us, and why she believes woke ideology has corrupted the mission of her employer, one of the largest domestic violence nonprofits in America. “There were a lot of discussions about defunding the police … [but] our clients need the police to stop the abuse. … What is the social worker going to do in one of these violent situations? A panel discussion on domestic abuse and the services availbale post-COVID with Katie Young-Wildes of Women Against Abuse, Katie of Laurel House and Toby Fraser of the Lutheran Settlement House. They spoke about defining the types of abuse, how to approach the topic, planning for leaving and the resources available to victims and their families. We talked about timing, not everyone is ready or willing to leave an abusive relationship and they spoke of counseling programs – including programs geared toward the abusors – shelters and legal services available throughout the process, and they gave advice for those witnessing a problem relationship, how to offer support. Toby discussed the ‘agressive male' in popular culture as a potential problem for future relationships and Katie discussed teen partner abuse, both boys and girls can bully then abuse. They also discussed what to do in an emegerncy and suggested that not all families feel safe with police involvement through a 911 call, in a non-life threatening situation they suggested leaving the house to de-escalate, code-words for children to tell them to leave, and to keep a ‘go-bag' of cash, a mobile phone and important documents ready. Host and KYW community affairs reporter Cherri Gregg asks the burning questions about intimate partners abuse following the recent murder suicide of beloved City Hall staffer Linda Rios Neuby. In America, half of all homicides of women were committed by an intimate partner. However, most of those relationships started out loving. So when does love become abuse? Jeannine Lisistski, executive director of Women Against Abuse joins Tony Lapp, Co-Director of Menergy and Bill Muth, a member of the Board of The Men's Resource Center who has participated in intervention programs. The panel takes a deep dive into the minds and understanding of those most likely to abuse and examine the culture that supports it. Davenport AKA General Rezzy. He was slated to perform in the "Stop the Violence Tour" but was shot during a drive by on August 8th. The 32 year old rapper, as well as 34-yera-old Neisha Cooper died in the incident, four others were injured. More than 800 have been injured and more than 140 have been killed in shootings in Philadelphia this year. Quality Promotions' Chris Jones and rapper Ronny Alright discuss the tour, which begins in Philadelphia the weekend of August 25 and is going regional at area colleges. Finally, the Changemaker of the week is rising U-Penn freshman Morgan Bacon. The Masterman grad saw a problem in Philadelphia Schools-- the lack of fresh water- and went to city council and presented a solution.
