In today's episode we're reviewing the scientific evidence, as well as our own experiences, taking Magnesium as a sleep aid.  As parents, many of us are short on sleep, whether it's from kids keeping us up, waking us up, or simply just wanting some time to ourselves.  That said, we know sleep is one of the most potent ways we can maintain or improve our health, so Dr. Garrett and I are always on the lookout for tools we can use to improve that aspect of our lives. One of those tools is Magnesium, which has been shown to have a relationship with both sleep quality and duration.  In this episode we get into the mechanisms for how magnesium can influence sleep, the research support for its use as a sleep aid, recommended protocols for intake, and our own results and recommendations for better sleep.  We hope you find this information useful and as always, thanks for listening!   Nothing in this episode should be considered medical advice, please consult your physician prior to taking any supplements.   Mentioned in this episode: Thorne Magnesium Bisglycinate: https://amzn.to/3TaRpZS Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index Calculator: https://snoozeuniversity.com/psqi/ Oral magnesium supplementation for insomnia in older adults: a systematic review and meta-analysis: https://bmccomplementmedtherapies.biomedcentral.com/articles/10.1186/s12906-021-03297-z   If you found this podcast valuable, the best way to say “thank you” is to share it with others and leave us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.   Want to be a part of the show? Today we sat down with Dr. Nate Klemp, author and co-founder of Mindful Magazine. Nate and his wife Kaley co-wrote The 80/80 Marriage, a book that we found to be full of practical insights about how to avoid resentment and replace it with radical generosity between you and your spouse.  Nate also explains how to visualize the true priorities in your marriage, practices for modeling a healthy marriage for your kids, and five habits you and your family can implement to create more time for what really matters to you. We are excited to put the Klemp's practices into play in our own marriages and we hope you find this conversation as valuable as we did.  As always, thanks for listening!   Follow Nate Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/nate_klemp/ Nate's writing at Mindful: https://www.mindful.org/author/nate-klemp-phd/ YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpncjN_woj6Xrth0i-bGp7w Bedtime yoga nidra/mindfulness for kids: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JUmB6pHnpzw Website: https://www.8080marriage.com/ Buy Nate's book: https://amzn.to/3wGY3Pd   If you found this podcast valuable, the best way to say “thank you” is to share it with others and leave us a 5-star review on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.   Want to be a part of the show? This episode is another in our book review series of discussions.  Today we discussed In Defense of Food by Michael Pollan.  This book is a great look at the current problem we find ourselves in globally as a result of the "Western" diet and the chronic diseases that tend to result from over-consumption of ultra-processed foods.  A return to a whole-food based diet is the theme of the book and our conversation, and we hope you find value in what we discussed.  We will be reading The Life of King David by J.S. Park during the month of October and would welcome you to read along and offer any questions/comments you have.
