You don't need a corner office or fancy title to lead; all you need is a little courage and a lot of self-belief. It's all about finding your voice and stepping into your power, whether you're running a team, working behind the scenes, or just navigating your everyday life. Leadership isn't about calling the shots—it's about taking charge of your journey, lifting others up, and being the CEO of your own story. Each day we face discouragement, problems from all sides from which we cannot hide, change, fear and failure are but amongst the few. However the challenges we face reminds us we are human and helps us face our weaknesses. Right now that Challenge could be a sore point, something you wish to avoid and who knows time might not be on your side however seek advice from a trusted friend. Seek God. And though at times you feel like throwing in the towel, give up, but then a word, a song, or advice from a trusted friend comes in. Ask Knock and Receive for at times others see another view of what God can do. So before you feel like quitting and giving up thank God for the challenges that draws your attention to things that needs great Spiritual effort which therefore tests your and my ability. Do you. Be you and Be Comfortable with You. So as I felt challenged this week, I thank God for His lead. When things look like there's no way out, in pops a song - and might I add one of my late dads favourite songs, 'I Trust In God I Know He Cares For Me On Mountain Bleak of on the Stormy Sea, though Billows roll, He keeps My Soul. My Heavenly Father watches Over Me. So on that Promised Note, don't Despair fof God Does take Care. Be Blessed. Be Encouraged by this word.

It's easy to work your way up to the state of a ‘fairground barker'[1] announcer, but less easy to pull back, step back and sit back, relaxing into a conversational tone. (We have more on how stress affects the voice and how relaxation in your mind and body also relaxes the voice, later in the book/series.) A lot of ‘sounding good' is down to confidence. Hello? Hello, this is Caroline Schafer, your host at The Vitality Feed.  Today, we're going to talk about fashion, to help men with their style which is not usually on my agenda, but I am having a challenge in January.  Today's  podcast is geared towards that challenge. So I hope everybody enjoys. Please help me welcome Sarah D'Arcy. Sarah is a celebrity stylist and I personal stylist. She has experienced in editorial work as well as commercial and her website is SarahDarcey.com. Welcome Sarah! Thank you Caroline for having me. Absolutely. I'm so excited. I think this is kind of a perfect timing to do this with all the holiday parties right now. Hopefully people can utilize this and maybe especially the men who I'm going to focus on more today and get some good tips to, to knock it out of the park with their style. So give us a little backstory about how you got involved in the whole fashion thing. And I know this is audio. Sarah is so styling right now. Hopefully you can see the snippet on Facebook, but she looks great. . So Sarah, how did you get involved in fashion? So I always knew I wanted to work in fashion and I, I initially really wanted to be a buyer, but I really discovered that I was terrible at math and buying as much about math as it is about, you know, choosing great things. So I fell into styling and I went to George Brown college in Toronto and I interned for Dress For Success. And that's where I really discovered my love for helping people find confidence through what they wear. Fast forward a few years, I moved back to Vancouver where I'm originally from, and I opened my own styling business. And I've worked with celebrity clients. Like you mentioned, I work with people of all walks of life to help them find confidence, you know, through what they wear. that's awesome. I'm a firm believer in this. I don't think most of our listeners know that I actually have a fashion background, but I also love fashion. And I do think that when you put on nicer clothes and you do your hair and your makeup. I feel better than throwing on those leggings in a big sweatshirt and just a messy bun, you know. So I know you've been working with some clients. Tell us about a client story. I worked with the really amazing client recently. His name is Alex . He is in the new Marvel series with Jeremy Renner called Hawkeye and cool. Oh, he was fabulous that he was actually a really I wouldn't say difficult fit, but he had really, he has really interesting measurements, so he's six, five 250 pounds. And he, his measurements were just, when I first got them, I, I had a little bit of concern, especially in Vancouver because, you know, it's more geared to kind of a street style market. And so we worked together to do a magazine cover. I, I just really enjoyed working with him and the challenge of bringing in clothing and finding clothing that we're really going to fit fit his frame and also really accentuate and look really beautiful because he told me at the outset, oh, you know, I have a really hard time finding clothes, just so you know, I'm not an off the rack kind of guy and, you know, through preparation and finding some really great pieces through some partners the magazine cover turned out really great. And so the magazine will come out in February. So I'm excited for that. I think that's so cool that you get to have something tangible for your work. You know what I mean? Like most people that they do, the work and stuff, and a lot of it's remote, but you actually can like go by the magazine cover.  View it online. You're like, Hey, I did that. That's really neat. That's really interesting to walk by, you know, a store and see your work or online and see it out there. And, you know, know the process that happened behind what, what went in exactly into that, that work. And I'm sure it's much more lengthy than most people have any clue. It certainly is. And with that project, lots of research, lots of ordering things in and lots of you know, just really hoping and praying it would look fabulous and it did. Fantastic.  So I know the holidays are coming. And I would especially like to target the men out there, women can usually resource things a little bit better, but what are the top three things that men can do, to put their look together? Absolutely. So the first thing that I always tell my clients, including the men, is that they really need to set a foundation for their wardrobe. When you have this foundation in your wardrobe, you're able to go in and pull out those key pieces with ease and you're not scrambling, you know, to get to that party. So the first thing that I always say is that you need to edit your closet. So that includes donating, or consigning anything that you haven't worn in over a year. When you do this, you'll edit out all the stuff that doesn't work and you'll only see the things that do. And then as well in that process, if you take your measurements, when you go in to drop things off, to have them tailored, it'll be a very seamless and easy process because you know, your proportions. That's genius. Absolutely because it's just really important that people know what their body type is and how clothes fit them. So you have self-awareness when you take your measurements and you're able to go into your tailor and have really have a conversation about what clothes tend to fit you best. I always say as well, when people are starting out on this process with setting the foundation, it's important to focus on developing more of a classic style to set yourself up for success before you really delve deeper into what could be your personal style. Because when you have these classic pieces that are in your wardrobe, it just sets that foundation. So if you tend to like a trend that's out there, you can move one or two pieces in, but you still have that classic set of your foundation. You made me think of home decor and always liked the concept of keeping the big pieces classic, like the furniture and maybe the throw pillows or the throw blanket make that more trending, like a pop a lime green and red. So do you think that's the same thing like with dressing? Do you think that the trendy could come in with the accessories and to keep the classic part that, like you said, the standard basic pieces that you keep in your closet, the good suit and the good pair of khakis and a crew neck and things like that, the white shirt and all that. Absolutely. It's a brilliant comparison, you know when you think about it through throw pillows you can change up your throw pillows. Maybe you go for a lighter, more pastel color for spring, but then you get into maybe a more tartan hue into winter. It's exactly like that. So when you have those core investment pieces and then you add in You know, accessories like a belt or you know, a pocket square. It's just a really brilliant way to for it to be one economical. And you're not having a lot of garments that are just sitting in the closet. So therefore it's good for your pocketbook and it's good for the environment. Perfect. I love that you hit on those three things and I like fun socks. I love, I think it's such a good conversational starter too. Cause there are some, and there's sock companies, I saw one little boy and he's like killing it and he produces this whole sock line and it does a charitable thing attached to it. I love that. I think can also be like a little personalized touch to your wardrobe. So maybe. Really cool, positive things. So what are some big don't do's? Some definite big don't do that, I see out there all the time.  Is men wearing gym shoes when they're not in the gym and it's not, you know, the fun, new balance casual you know, that athletes are trend is, are white sneakers that you see men out there wearing with with their regular wear. Having the right footwear is really something that will elevate your look and leaving those white gym shoes for the gym.  So I was a formepr commuter in New York and it was commonplace to run to your job in your sneakers, and then change at work to legit shoes. But today there seems to be this whole, I see it in catalogs and every. The white sneakers with dresses, which I find is a little bit odd and even suits, you know, formal suits, the button up suit with, with sneakers. So what do you think about. I think if it's the right sneaker, it can look, it can look really, really nice. It just depends on also again, knowing your body type, knowing your proportions. Say for example, a man wearing a beautiful suit and say he's a goddess sneaker. If the sneaker is in the right style, it's more of a casual but elevated option. It can look really cool, but if it is actually intended for training or it's those kinds of, you know, white guy speakers that we all kind of know. So it's really important to look at what is the cut of what you're wearing and how do you tie that shoe in and. There are a lot of great examples on, you know, places like Pinterest, magazines, a lot of celebrities wear kind of an elevated sneaker on a red carpet now, but elevated sneaker. That's a cool term! And that's true. You can look at resources out there. Absolutely. And I kind of, what do you think about the concept of. Personality and pulling things off because sometimes don't you feel like some people can get away with that and then other people put it on. And you're like, I think when you try to wear sneakers with a suit, you have to have like that definitely extrovert outgoing kind of personality to pull that off. Absolutely. You really have to own it. And when I say to my clients, when they, I really like to ask them, you know, what do you like, what do you like to wear? When, how do you feel most comfortable? And a lot of them say to me, you know, I don't know if I have the confidence to wear it and what I always say back to them.You know, if you really like something. Wear it, but you really have to own it. And so you really have to have that, that confidence behind what you're wearing. And on the flip side, if you don't like something don't wear it or don't buy it. That's, you know, that's absolute too. I don't even think about that because you can tell, especially men, like if they never wear a collared shirt and a tie and they're like at an outing and they have that. They look like somebody like hanging them. They're like pulling at it and they're moving their neck and head around. Like, they're like somebody get me out of this straight jacket soon. So that, that is true. So, what's a second thing people can do. So he had gym shoes. So the second don't that I always say, and I always see men out there doing this is wearing a backpack when  they're businessman. Wearing a backpack to carry all your files, whether it's your lunch or anything. There's so many beautiful briefcase options, kind of shoulder bag, and it's really. Great way to also, again, I'm all about elevating a is to elevate their look, to really look the part. If you're a CEO, you have the means to get a great briefcase or right. And I think it's important too, to look at the, yeah, I agree. I think when you got that full look, I think people look at you differently and you know, people say don't judge a book by a cover, but I'm sorry, BS on that. It just, is what it is and people do it, whether you want it to be that way or not. It is what it is. And that's what the whole fashion industry and Hollywood are all about. fashSo yeah have your whole put together. I don't see that very much, but I got that image in my head and I'm like, yeah, that would look really bad. I think I felt, so you think about the pandemic and a lot of people are very casual and you know what they normally might not wear.They did where, and now they're tired of wearing these casual outfits. They're looking to say, how do I go back and be the best version of myself and what do I wear to do that? And I think just completing the look, whether it's a man or a woman having the right pieces to fill out that whole look is so simple. So you're not a proponent of the pajamas underneath the table and that golf shirt for zoom calls. I have to say, I may have done it. We got the dirt now. That's awesome. I know a lot of people do that and I've even seen people stand up and be humorous about it, which I think kudos that's that's cool, but it is a whole new era that we're dealing with. All right. Number three. Don't. So number three, I always tell my clients don't wear anything that's a bad fit. If you have done an edit to remove all of these pieces from your closet, you, you likely won't be able to write. So many of the time we have, we see pieces that are either too big they're too small. They're, they're old. And a great example of it is I see a lot of men wearing belts that are long past their prime. That they're crap is so true. Oh my gosh. And yeah, they, they like you take them off. They naturally make like a C you know, Absolutely. And then you see also where a lot of men haven't taken the time to go into their shoe person, and they've made their own holes. They were in a pinch and we certainly can understand, but that is a huge don't wear a belt that's past due.  Absolutely the belts and wallets I think are in that too. A lot of people take wallets out and they're like, okay, they're really past their prime. They needto get replaced. And you know what other one gets to me too. And I guess maybe because I have spent some time in New York city, and this was so accessible, which now that I live in the Atlanta suburbs, it's not so accessible, but shoes shining. I like wearing the shoes that are clean and polished, and there's nothing worse to me. And people throw on dress shoes that are full of dust on top, or they're all scraped up. And even women I've seen. With the heels, just look like their dog got at em and that does not look okay. And the other thing that I find and I've actually left comments on like videos, I did one the other day. Really cool dancer. He wore a a men's jacket. He's very young and I'm sure he had no idea, but men especially and I used to work in events and I used to do it there too. Men, some women do it in skirts, but men, especially with the the vents in their jackets, they don't clip the basting  stitch. That's just for packaging and getting it to the store, you need to clip that. You don't wear that out like that. And one lady I saw, she literally could hardly walk because she had this skirt , you know, the slit in the back was closed and she's like, oh, it's like, wow. There's no excuse because we had the internet. There's the land of YouTube. Like just spend 10 minutes. It's something you have to do every day. You got to get up and get dressed every day and you feel like you said, you feel really good when you get, you know, all your pieces lined up and you know, you look good and everybody knows when they look good. You know, you put something on. Get that extra energy! Comment to that. It's kind of in line with the belt. Tip is we all know Seinfeld and George Costanza and immense wallet. And I always say every week, take some time to clean out your wallet every week, because how it sits, whether you put it in the breast pocket of your suit or in your back pocket, it has a big effect on how the clothes look. So take that time to clean out your wallet. And it'll also be easier when. I purchased something. I think that's just a great hack for life just to get in the habit. Some people keep like two years worth of receipts in, in, on their person. And I'm just like, there's no need for that.  And when you pull that out in public, I just don't think it sets a good look either. And it's like, I'm disorganized, I don't have any kind of system in place here, but that is a very good point. And I appreciate that. And so, okay. Hopefully our listeners. That's awesome. So my last question is my signature question. If there is one thing in this world that you could eliminate forever, what would it be and why? If there was one thing I would eliminate, I thought about this a lot and because this is my industry and I'm very passionate about this is I would eliminate fast fashion. Fast fashion. That's a new one for me. You always have fast food but fast fashion. So explain what that is. So that is companies that are using an ethical practices to create garments, whether that's the, the, how they're producing the clothes the materials they're using, the unethical labor practices that they are using. I really believe that fast fashion has such a effect on consumerism and also our environment. And we're seeing, especially now such a, a crisis with the environment. And so I just really believe in supporting local business people using ethical practices. My whole mantra is to create and curate a closet of fewer better things. So quality over quantity. And that's also another tip that people can use for their holiday ware. And so not having all those practices and all of those clothes that spend so much time in landfills, like  so much clothing goes to landfills and. That's true. That's true. I always tried to donate my clothing and there's an orphanage, not too far. With COVID, it's been a little bit problematic, but there are people out there who could use clothing who have nothing. So yeah, please always donate. I love that idea. Actually when I had a corporate job, I did a thing and I think it was called Dress For Success and yeah, and we pulled together all usedclothing that was corporate or business oriented. So like belts and suits and dresses and things like that. And high heel shoes  and whatnot and, and did like a fair and also had people come and we help them with their resumes, and interviewing skills. It was really cool. But yeah, I am a firm believer in recycling it's just a good idea. Like you say, there's no reason to fill the landfills like that. I love it. Oh, Sarah, you've been a wealth of information and I hope everyone can take these tidbits that you offered. Through their holiday parties and the holiday season, even for themselves, even if you don't go to a party, just do it for you. It's always better to overdress than underdressed, that's always my theory. A lot of times people like you don't have to get dressed up for this and I'm like, I don't get out much. I'm going to get dressed up in here. Absolutely. I love to wear sequence out just in the day. There you go. Alright, so I'm good. McGinnis once again to talk about the next phase of FOMO, also known as the “Fear Of Missing Out.” Patrick is a venture capitalist, a speaker, a writer, and the creator and host of the hit podcast FOMO Sapiens, which has surpassed 3 million downloads. He coined the term FOMO and the related term FOBO or “Fear Of a Better Option” in a 2004 article in the student newspaper of Harvard Business School. FOMO has since been added to the dictionary, and FOBO has become an increasingly popular framework to describe choice paralysis. Today, Patrick also shares his experiences on how FOMO has evolved during the pandemic and how you can make decisions right now, given the new normal we have today. There's a lot to unpack, so stay tuned and enjoy the show!Be Comfortable with Missing OutDecision-making has become a big focus in Patrick's framework to dealing with FOMO. After all, the Fear of Missing Out is, at its core, a decision-making problem. We make tons of decisions every day, but not every decision leads to the life we want. And with the world today, we are spoiled for choice so much that we often get overwhelmed by them. As a result, we end up making decisions based on fear rather than actual logic. Even when we get into analysis paralysis, choosing nothing is still a decision based on fear. And so, in a world of overwhelming choice, we all need practical decision-making. On today's episode, I share an alternative to hospital birth with a very different approach to prenatal and postpartum care.  LaNette McQuitty is a certified professional midwife and the owner of Authentic Birth Center and Wellness Collective in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin. When she opened Authentic Birth Center and Wellness Collective, she had a vision to empower women to experience physiological birth in a quiet, peaceful setting and wanted to create a place that women are treated with warmth, patience and respect.  On this episode, we talk about all things related to physiological birth and ways you could incorporate this natural birth method into your birth plan in addition to how we can better provide collaborative care to women as healthcare providers. This episode is for anyone pregnant or considering having children and is not just for those considering a natural birth.  Show Notes [4:20] Learn what the term “physiological birth” means and how the midwives at Authentic Birth Center get to know their families very well in order to allow for this instinctual birth process called physiological birth[6:00] LaNette talks about the importance of staying in a dimly lit room while laboring in order to work with your nervous system to help the cervix dilate [9:30] There are four midwives at Authentic and they are all alittle bit different but able to prescribe if needed so this allows their patients to have everything done right there [11:35] A milk bank is now offered at Authentic with donor milk for those that are in need of breastmilk [14:10] So many people wonder what happens during a water birth so hear from LaNette how water births work and why they can be beneficial to mom and baby[17:55] We talk about how both of us focus on patient-centered care but hear about how LaNette does her prenatal visits differently than what the typical medical model is like in order to provide patients with the time they need.[23:10] Hear one of LaNette's favorite birth story with one of the largest amount of people she has had during a birth[25:20] Most women ask “what if” something happens when birthing at a birth center so hear the criteria that LaNette has put into place in order to keep birth as safe as possible for her patients[30:00] We discuss how we can both do better with providing better postpartum care within the fourth trimester[34:20] I talk about a new research study that I had just read about diastasis recti and how things do not change after 8 weeks postpartum without some type of treatment[39:00] Collaborative care is much needed within healthcare but is difficult to get in most places so we talk about how we both work together to collaborate for our patients and continue to push the envelope in providing that[43:20] I pick LaNette's brain about any type of prenatal care helping decrease birth trauma as we prepare for the launch of our pregnancy research study and she talks alot about the benefit of myofascial release of the pelvic floor prior to delivery[51:15] LaNette's biggest piece of advice for pregnancy and childbirth is to “Be Comfortable” and how that happens throughout those different aspects[53:05] Hear LaNette's current favorite way of practicing self-care Subscribe and Review in Apple Podcast Are you subscribed to my podcast?  If you're not, I want to encourage you to do that today.  I don't want you to miss an episode. We all have fears that stop us from stepping into our potential. It's what we've come to call the comfort zone - the place where fear is minimized to allow for daily life functioning. But we don't always realize just how much we give up for the sake of comfort. In an effort to minimize our greatest fears we can be sacrificing our heart's deepest desires. In the name of comfort we sacrifice potential. It reminds me of a quote by Tony Robbins that says (paraphrasing), the dance of life happens between our greatest fears and our greatest potential, which translates into life happens outside your comfort zone. Sounds good in theory, but how do we move through our terrifying fears to break free of limitations and embrace our true potential? Here are a few of my thoughts around 3 tips to master life outside your comfort zone. Tip #1: Every Person Experiences the Same Human Struggle With every person born there is a basic human struggle between ego and potential. The ego operates much like a computer operating system - it has a set of rules and programs that is the basis of its function. That's great if it's operating from an effective set of rules and programs - but it doesn't always do so. It's no secret we are a product of our environment: the beliefs we are exposed to as children often set the tone of a lifetime of experiences. In other words, the operating system most of us are functioning from was created long before we had conscious choice to reject the limiting beliefs that came from other people. (That's the kicker - Most people don't even realize their limiting beliefs aren't theirs!) The struggle comes in when we're operating on limiting beliefs that tell us one thing, when we crave another. We crave individual expression and expansion, yet our operating system tells us it's dangerous - or we'll fail - or we'll face rejection or criticism. We crave something better, but the fears that make up the boundaries of our comfort zone stop us from going for it. I believe this is the struggle that every single human faces to some degree or another. We all have fears. Yet, only the ones who have achieved great things have decided that their potential (life outside the comfort zone) was more important than listening to the fears (life inside the comfort zone). Tip #2: To Change the Results You Must Change the Actions If you're not operating from possibilities, you're operating from limitations - there is no in between. If the results you're currently seeing are not pleasing or satisfying then you must change the actions to bring about different results. This often means you must begin making choices from outside your comfort zone. Think of it this way - everything you have already experienced (and may not like) is the result of making decisions from inside your comfort zone. You've been there, done that and the results may be disappointing. To create different results, you must do something different. Remember, the comfort zone is based on limited beliefs. To create a different experience, you must take action from different beliefs…the beliefs that exist outside your comfort zone. Tip #3: It's About Learning to Be Comfortable with Being Uncomfortable Let's go back to expanding on the struggle that every human being experiences: it's the struggle between ego and potential. The ego only wants to have experiences that it knows how to deal with because its main concern is to keep you safe, healthy and whole. Your true potential, which is limitless, is the contrast of the ego. Anyone who has ever accomplished anything great has done so with great risk. Not necessarily physical or emotional danger, but at great risk as far as the ego is concerned. See, the ego doesn't know how to deal with new situations based on new beliefs - it only knows how to handle situations it's experienced. The process of doing something you haven't done before is the great risk because you are stepping out of your comfort zone and stepping into your true potential. If it feels a lot like stepping out into mid-air - it's because it is. You are literally stepping into new territory. To create different results you must step out of your comfort zone so you're taking action from a different set of beliefs. Stagnation is comfortable….growth is uncomfortable. All that you are and have experienced is the result of beliefs that have built your comfort zone. Mastering your life and fulfilling your true potential comes down to how willing you are to get uncomfortable. Session 8 While I'm doing mock interview with students, I often hear from students that they weren't prepared for the question or they haven't formulated the response for that question. As you go through this process of preparing for your medical school interviews, you are never going to prepare for every or any question that can be asked during the interview process. Even if you have prepared for a question, the interviewer may ask it in a way that's different than what you've prepared for. This is going to throw you off the game. You're going to stumble and you're going to trip. So what is the goal of doing mock interviews? Also, listen to our other podcasts on MedEd Media. [01:14] The Goal of Practicing If you're going to the interview thinking that you have prepared for everything possible. My book, The Premed Playbook: Guide to the Medical School Interview contains 600 questions. Understand that the goal of the questions is just to give you an idea of what possibly could be asked. I got a review on Amazon for this book saying you don't need to buy it. You'll be better off practicing, doing mock interviews. Plus, they went on saying they give you a false sense of hope that all you need is the book. Funny thing, the book basically tells you to practice and practice. The goal of that practice is not to be prepared for every question possible. The goal of practicing is to understand how you respond, how you're going to handle being that stressful environment. Number two. it's to help you think on your feet and be comfortable thinking on your feet. It's for you to be confident in knowing that the answer is in your head. "Everything is in your head, always has been, always will be." [02:58] Trust Yourself The difference between being prepared and not being prepared is being comfortable enough to let that information come out of your head. Versus being so practiced on what you think is every question that can be asked. Then it comes off rehearsed. And if a questions is asked a different way, you stumble. If the interviewer stops you, you lose your train of thought at one point. Then you start freaking out because you don't know where to start off again. You need to trust yourself in these interviews. "You have to be comfortable with who you are so that in these interviews, you just relax. You have a conversation." [03:49] Different Ways to Practice This is like an analogy of going out on a first date with somebody. You're sitting across your date and the first thing out of your mouth is this rehearsed, memorized things. You've thought you need to get across to the interviewer. Instead, just sit down and look at that person in front of you and talk from your heart. This is easy as long as you practice and that's why you need to practice. Whether that's one-on-on practice with your premed advisor or a mentor or a family member. Or use my mock interview platform. It's a monthly access to it with 600 questions, which are all the questions from this book. I've recorded myself. Then you sit in front of a webcam and you just talk. Too many students keep in their head and then when they say it loud for the first time, they realize it's not what they meant to say. That's why you need to practice. "There are lots of options to practice, But you just need to practice." My mock interview platform is a great way to practice since you're recording yourself and you get assessment as well. You get the chance to give yourself feedback and have other people give you feedback based on that assessment. Then you can also do one-on-one mock interviews with me or others. [06:17] Be Comfortable with Who You Are You don't need to prepare for every specific question out there. You just need to be comfortable with knowing that you're going to be able to talk. You're able to give your opinions and give your thoughts on whatever may come up. And if for some reason you don't know how to answer the question, just say you don't know enough about that subject. It's just a conversation. It's just getting to know each other during the interview. So have fun and don't stress so much about it. Just prepare and be comfortable with who you are.
