What happens when a strong, healthy woman is still labeled “overweight”?In this powerful and honest conversation, Robin sits down with her longtime friend Bridget Lolli, a wellness professional, strength athlete, and advocate for redefining health, to unpack the moment that sparked a deeper conversation about body image, BMI, and the messages women receive about their bodies. After being labeled “overweight” in a medical chart based solely on BMI, Bridget began asking a bigger question: Are we actually measuring health, or just weight?Together, they explore: Why BMI is an outdated and often misleading measure of health The cultural pressure for women to be “strong", but still small How strength training can improve metabolism, longevity, and injury prevention The impact of body image messaging on girls and young athletes Why female athletes often underfuel and fear building muscle How to advocate for yourself in medical settings And how to redefine health in a way that honors both body and purpose This episode is especially meaningful for: ✔️ Women navigating midlife body changes ✔️ Anyone frustrated with the scale or BMI labels ✔️ Moms and granddaughters raising daughters in today's body image culture ✔️ Women of faith seeking freedom from body perfection Health is not a number. Strength is not a problem. And your body is not something to shrink. If you've ever felt like your body didn't “fit” the standard and need to be reminded that you are fearfully and wonderfully made, this conversation is for you.Special Guest: Bridget Lolli is a public health professional, Certified Health Education Specialist, and School Wellness Coordinator for Columbia Public Schools with academic training in Nutritional Sciences, Nursing, and Public Health. She also holds a CrossFit Level I and Precision Nutrition coaching certificates, with over a decade of strength training experience.Bridget is passionate about redefining how we measure health by challenging outdated metrics like BMI and advocating for more accurate indicators such as muscle mass, physical performance, and metabolic health. Her perspective is shaped not only by her professional background but also by her lived experience as a strength athlete navigating injury, recovery, and weight bias within healthcare.Through her work in school wellness, youth athletics, and fitness, she focuses on helping adults and young athletes understand that health is not defined by thinness, but by strength, function, and resilience. Her recent social media post on muscle bias has sparked conversations about weight stigma, particularly its impact on women and youth athletes.Bridget is also the co-host of the podcast The Crooked Compass. https://www.youtube.com/@crookedcompasspod

Active and athletic women can be hit hard by the menopause transition. Many of us have become accustomed to our bodies responding in a predictable way to our training and nutrition, only to have that sense of control slip away during the menopause transition. That can leave us feeling desperate for solutions–and vulnerable to predatory marketing. That's where mindset, especially acceptance, becomes an essential tool in our midlife toolbox. While there are steps we can take to feel and perform our best at every age and stage of life, there will always be some changes outside of our control. Accepting that isn't “giving up”, it's freeing yourself to stop battling your body and to truly appreciate all it does for you. This week we talk all about movement and mindset during midlife and menopause with fitness expert Maria Luque, PhD, menopause coach with Respin Health.Dr. Maria Luque is an energetic and accomplished fitness and menopause expert, former health science professor, and USAF veteran. With a PhD and MS in Health Sciences and over two decades of fitness experience, she combines academic expertise with practical insights. Managing testicular cancer demands resilience that men often don't realize they possess. Michael J. Rovito, Ph.D., an associate professor at the University of Central Florida, adds another factor to resilience: connectedness. He shares some insights from his investigatory project on connectedness or disconnection, which could be defined, he says, as "no one really knows me." This feeling of social isolation becomes even more palpable for young men navigating testicular cancer. Dr. Rovito talks about the challenges young people face, often without the realization they are disconnected from people and social interactions. A familiar voice on the Don't Give Up on Testicular Cancer podcast, Dr. Rovito, has shared his research outcomes and interests before with our listeners. He specializes in testicular cancer self-examination and testicular cancer in general, male health, behavioral change, and informative research that includes theory, instrument development, and intervention design. The Salty Sex Cast is a sexual education podcast, recording from Utah, built around sharing positive messages around sex-related content. Their mission is to end fear and stigma and allow others to find their optimal level of sexual wellness. Host, Mariah, wants to save others from being 'salty' about their lack of sex education. ABOUT THE TEAM: Mariah (she/her) grew up in a strict religious home and the sex education she got was abstinence-only sex education in school. She was raised Mormon, where sex is not openly talked about and heavily shrouded in shame and feelings of “unworthiness”. Mariah is a Certified Health Education Specialist and a National Board Certified Health and Wellness Coach with a graduate degree in Health Education. She is taking her educational background and personal experience to share positive, empowering, and entertaining messages around sex, sexuality, relationships, and all things sex-related. Her mission is to minimize the fear and stigma around those things and create more awareness and understanding for others to reach their optimal sexual wellness. Mariah is bisexual and has been happily married to her husband for 12 years. The two of them are raising 3 wonderful kids with their sweet dog, Daisy. Mariah currently works full-time as an educator for an online university, adjuncts for another local university, and runs her coaching business, Balance Your Wellness. Brady (he/ him) was born and raised in Utah and with the combination of a nurse for a mom and the prevalence of love lines on late-night radio he realized early on that the sex education he was getting didn't tell the whole story. With a brief background in radio and a passion for projects, he joined Salty Sex Cast shortly after it started, which bloomed into the creation of Murdershack Studios (murdershackstudios@gmail.com) while Brady loves to joke he is really passionate about learning more and more and growing his understanding toward his fellow human beings.
