Krystal and Dedric Polite are real estate investors and stars of A&E's 50/50 Flip, where they transform rundown properties while building generational wealth. Based in North Carolina, the couple launched their real estate journey with a single Airbnb and have since flipped over 100 properties. Their success blends Krystal's expertise in systems and marketing with Dedric's skills in acquisitions and finance. In Nehemiah 2, we see a man facing his greatest fears, carrying the weight of God's calling, and stepping into opposition while holding on to God's strength. From Nehemiah's courage before the king, to the reminder that “the joy of the Lord is your strength” (Neh. 8:10), we are invited to see how God's assignments for our lives carry both challenge and purpose.

Being An Influencer: Your Kingdom Assignment in a Social Media World

Focus Church

Play Episode Listen Later Sep 7, 2025 39:43

Most Christians believe they're living faithfully, attending church and maintaining personal devotions, but few understand their true calling as Kingdom influencers in today's culture. While secular social media personalities shape millions of lives with trivial content, believers often remain passive witnesses, missing their God-ordained opportunity to impact eternity. This episode challenges serious Christians to recognize that influence isn't optional—it's a biblical mandate that requires the same intentionality and strategy that secular influencers use to build their platforms. Todd delivers essential teaching on the believer's role as an ambassador for Christ, drawing powerful parallels between modern influencer culture and our biblical calling to be the light of the world. Through the remarkable account of Jehoiada, the high priest whose godly influence shaped King Joash and an entire nation, this sermon reveals how one faithful believer can transform kingdoms—and what happens when that influence is removed. You'll discover why Paul compared Gospel proclamation to the life-sustaining power of the sun, and how your strategic positioning in family, workplace, and community isn't coincidental but providential. This isn't about adding religious activity to your schedule; it's about recognizing that every interaction is an opportunity to advance the Kingdom of God through intentional, Spirit-led influence. These aren't abstract theological concepts but fundamental skills for faithful believers who understand their eternal assignment. Whether you're influencing in corporate boardrooms, neighborhood conversations, or family dynamics, this episode equips you with the biblical framework to maximize your Kingdom impact in an increasingly dark world.

We thought our story was set. For 13 years, we gave our age as a percentage of our income. It became who we were. People knew us as that couple. Our mortgage was paid off in 10 months. We wrote books about it. We spoke on stages about it. We shared the miracle everywhere. And then—God asked us to stop. This episode is not about numbers. It's about obedience. About what happens when the thing God once asked you to do becomes an idol. About the courage it takes to release your identity and follow Him into a new season. Here's what we cover: The story of giving our age, and the miracles we saw. Why it was harder to stop than to start. How God shifted us from radical giving to radical saving. The danger of clinging to formulas instead of clinging to God. The system we built from this new season (and why it might change the way you think about money forever). This isn't a “how-to.” It's an invitation. Europe's largest herd of wild horses, in north-west Spain, is under threat. Numbers have halved in the last fifty years. Now around ten thousand wild horses roam freely in the hills and mountains of Galicia. But they are facing a number of challenges, not least the loss of their habitat and the threat from their main predator, wolves. There are also legal demands imposed by the regional government which have placed added financial burdens on the local people who, in effect, “own” these horses. And yet Galicia's wild horses have been an integral part of the local culture for centuries, particularly during annual festivals known as “rapas das bestas,” the shearing of the beasts. The horses are also known as engineers of the landscape, credited with boosting the local flora and fauna and with helping to control forest fires.John Murphy travels to Galicia to hear what is happening to these extraordinary animals and why they are so important. This episode of The Documentary comes to you from Assignment, investigations and journeys into the heart of global events.

Immigration attorneys say they have not been granted proper access to clients inside; environmentalists claim the detention centre is harming the protected wetlands that surround it. Within the last few days, a judge has ruled that much of the detention centre must be dismantled and no new migrants taken there. In this week's episode of our #WorkWell series, I'm building on last week's assignment with a new one that is both simple and challenging. After taking time to reset, I started asking myself a critical question every time I felt the urge for a distraction: "What would actually restore me right now, not just distract me?" It's so easy to fall into mindless scrolling or shopping, but I've found those are just temporary fixes that don't address the root cause. True restoration takes intention, and the only real short-term answer to exhaustion is rest and recovery.  My assignment for you is to try what I did this week. Every time you feel that pull toward a distraction, pause. I would get up, change my scenery, take two deep breaths, and grab my journal. This practice helped me offload my mental clutter and understand what was really going on. I found my needs usually fell into one of three categories: depletion, which I answered with a power nap or meditation; restlessness, which I solved with movement like a walk; or disconnection, which I eased by texting a friend or hugging my husband.   It all comes down to asking: What does my body need? What does my mind need? And what does my heart need? I encourage you to try replacing distraction with true restoration this week; it was incredibly insightful for me.  Stacie More episodes at StacieBaird.com.

Is it possible to do independent journalism in today's Russia? “The short answer is no,” James Rodgers tells me in our conversation about his insightful and scrupulously researched book Assignment Moscow: Reporting on Russia from Lenin to Putin (Bloomsbury Academic, 2023). Rodgers is a former BBC correspondent in Moscow. We first talk about Western coverage of the Russian Revolution and the early years of the Soviet Union, when many foreign correspondents, famously John Reed, openly identified with the Bolshevik cause and cheered it on. We discuss, too, the dubious example of New York Times reporter Walter Duranty, who infamously denied the reality of famine in Ukraine in the Stalin period. And we close with a discussion of journalism in the Putin era and the challenges that all journalists, including Russians, face. As Rodgers acknowledges, much of the best reporting on what is happening inside of Russia comes from Russian exiles with good internal sources. Such reporting does not get wide attention in the West but represents a valuable dissident Russian journalism tradition that took root in the glasnost era of the 1980s and has endured. In the summer of 2015 tens of thousands of people left their homes in Syria, Afghanistan and Iraq in the hope of finding a safe haven in Europe. Tajikistan's last, lonely hyenas

For decades, conservationists in Tajikistan assumed that the striped hyena – a shy, less vocal cousin of the spotted hyena – was extinct there. But in 2017 a motion-sensitive camera trap in the country's south-western corner, near the borders with Afghanistan and Uzbekistan, detected the presence of a female with cubs. The discovery stunned local observers, and ever since, one man and his colleagues have struggled to find out more about the few remaining Tajik striped hyenas with a view to saving them from oblivion. The challenges are immense, including the international animal parts trade, competition between animals and humans for habitat, and often-negative public perceptions of the hyena itself. Eight years on, Antonia Bolingbroke-Kent travels to the grassy lowlands of Tajikistan to join the small team in their fight to save these elusive, persecuted mammals, and in doing so learns how vital hyenas are to both the ecosystem and human health. This episode of The Documentary comes to you from Assignment, investigations and journeys into the heart of global events.
