What Socrates taught is, of course, the wrong question. For, if there is one thing that Plato is quite clear about, it is that Socrates taught nothing. Something else is going on when you encounter this figure. So what is it?In this talk I look first at common errors concerning Plato, such as that he pitched body against soul or thought poets were best banned. Other mistakes include treating his philosophy as a training in eudaimonia and reading his dialogues as stages in his philosophical development - the early ones being close to the historical Socrates, the middle ones being the mature Plato, the late ones being the disillusioned Plato. Similarly, Socrates did not seek definitions. The irony, given the sensitivity to this charge often from philosophers who misread Plato, is that this is a colonial reading of Plato. Scholars like Julia Annas have shown that reading Plato changed during the period of the British empire, when texts like Plato's Republic came to be treated as a manifesto for young minds in public schools being preparing to rule the world. Before that, Plato Plato was understood not to have a message but instead a path. Roughly speaking, the aporetic dialogues - the ones that end in radical uncertainty - offer a preparation in the form of an undoing. Then, next, into that space, the visionary dialogues speak. I'm indebted to the scholar Sara Ahbel-Rappe for so clearly stating that Socrates stands for a mode of being, thereby imparting a taste for it, stirring a love of it. Socrates can't give that presence, because it is already within you. This awareness actually already belongs to us, and we sense a distant yearning for it because of feeling separate from it, through ignorance or forgetting. The way back is to clear the space that makes us more ready to know it once more. This is the meaning of the message Socrates received from the Delphic oracle: knowing yourself means knowing yourself, at base, to know nothing because all your theories or assumptions or certainties will turn out to be limited or straightforwardly wrong. Take that on board and then, regarding yourself as poor, come to know the richness of life, which is not eudaimonistic but rather theotic: a participation by contemplation, or theoria, in God.That divine end, stressing the inadequacy of an isolated sense of our humanity, must be the fundamental reason why Plato is so widely dissed. He ready does offend, though in Socrates saw why that disquiet is so wonderfully worth undergoing.

One of the Delphic maxims (engraved on the sacred temple of Apollo at Delphi in Greece), and probably the most well know is "Know Thyself". There are many interpretations, but you could say in a nutshell that it is about reflecting and developing a greater understanding/awareness of who you are, could be and/or who you ought to be, and in turn an awareness of others and your relationship towards them and they to you. Throughout her career, Dr Nia Thomas, has been interested in the working relationship: the dynamics between people and the impact both good and bad relationships have on individuals and their ability to effectively deliver their work. This led her to develop an interest in self-awareness, leader effectiveness and leadership at all levels which became the focus of her doctoral research. In this episode she discusses the experiences which led to her interest in self-awareness, leader effectiveness and leadership at all levels. She further talks about the 3 layers she sees as embodying self-awareness - reflection, recognition and regulation and touches on the difference between someone who just manages (the focus is on their technical skills) and others who manage but have self-awareness (whether it is inherent or one of the skills they have developed). About Dr Nia D Thomas Nia spent over 20 years working in the public sector across local government, the NHS and civil service, predominantly in Wales and in the last few years, moving to England. Her passion is for children and family support: ensuring that babies and children have the opportunity to thrive and flourish, supported by adults who care for, nurture and love them. She currently works as an Assistant Director in a children's charity. Throughout her career, Nia has been interested in the working relationship: the dynamics between people and the impact both good and bad relationships have on individuals and their ability to effectively deliver their work. This led her to develop an interest in self-awareness, leader effectiveness and leadership at all levels which became the focus of her doctoral research. Her website (Knowing Self Knowing Others) was launched in 2018 and was accelerated by a need to keep the little grey cells active during the COVID lockdowns of 2020 and 2021 and the desire to share her research finding alongside her experience of the world of work, with others. Nia launched her 'The Knowing Self Knowing Others Podcast' in September 2022 to take her research from academia to the office. It also establishes a body of exploration into self-aware leadership. https://www.linkedin.com/in/nia-d-thomas/ https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/the-knowing-self-knowing-others-podcast/id1640336716 https://knowingselfknowingothers.co.uk

This week's episode is a wonderful conversation from our archive of live events here on The Buddhist Centre Online, featuring our host Paramananda and his guest Maitridevi, Chair of Taraloka Buddhist Retreat Centre for Women in Wales. Starting from a poem by W.S. Merwin, an initial conversation about gratitude for life despite all our knowledge of sorrows blooms into a shared set of reflections on impermanence, on our lack of centrality as a species, and on meditation as an exchange of gifts between us and the earth. How do we activate a sense of everything being alive? Maitridevi evokes ideas of a 'Buddhist Animism', and of the personification of the earth as Green Tara, derived from Dridha, the ancient Indian earth goddess. She and Paramananda explore the shamanic, the punk, the Delphic and oracular; all in the service of uncovering how genuinely sacred wisdom and energy might be said to come up out of the earth. This is an intimate, ultimately encouraging exchange about the great conundrum and tension there to be experienced in anyone's spiritual practice: that the world is a mess, and yet the world is always awakening. The words of the Delphic oracle had rung true, the rising empire founded by Cyrus the great, the Persians had just destroyed a mighty empire, in that of king Croesus and his Lydians. The Greeks of Ionia had stood by idle only having been subjected to the Lydians a generation earlier. Cyrus had tried to incite the Greeks to rebel, though they would wait to see which way the winds would blow. With the Persian victory the Greeks now sought to arrange favourable terms with the new power in the region. Though, their fence sitting would find their attempts met with anger and distain from Cyrus. With Sardis captured and only mopping up operations left in the west, Cyrus departed back into the empire leaving his commanders to finish the job.As the Persians absorbed the Lydian system into their own, resistance would develop with one last effort of the Lydians attempting to regain control. Cyrus would learn of the Lydian revolt and detach an army to head back to stamp it out as quickly as possible. With the revolt under control measures were now taken to punish those regions involved. This would see all of the Greek cities along the Anatolian coast now fully integrated into the Persian Empire. After a generation living under Persian control, dissatisfaction in the Ionian Greek cities would begin to make itself known. The Greeks were living under tyrannies acting in the interests of the Persians, though they had not been particularly popular before this time also. A combination of tyrannical rule, Persian tribute pressures as well as personal ambitions would all end up seeing a revolt develop in Ionia. The Ionians would take the initiative and launch an attack on Sardis, though it would fail and the revolt would drag on for a number of years. In this interview I am joined by Dr Thomas Clough Daffern, poet, historian, philosopher, educator, and peace officer for the Council of British Druid Orders. Thomas recounts an unusual upbringing, a love affair with classics and poetry, and dropping out of school at 15 to pursue philosophical enquiry. We learn of Thomas' immersion in study of the world's religious and mystical traditions, and his early tantric and druidic initiations. Thomas discusses the Ancient Greek mystery schools, the cultural consequences of their closure, and what it would take to revive them in the world today. Thomas reflects his time as a celibate, why every student of the mysteries should have a brahmacharya phase, and why a sense of duty and civic responsibility eventually saw him marry and start a family. Thomas also talks about reconciling the schools of Islam, compares Eastern and Western enlightenments, and reveals the inspiration behind his relentless intellectual curiosity. … Video version at https://www.guruviking.com/podcast/ep132-student-of-the-mysteries-dr-thomas-clough-daffern Also available on Youtube, iTunes, & Spotify – search ‘Guru Viking Podcast'. … Topics Include: 00:00 - Intro 01:07 - Dr Daffern's family and educational background 03:51 - Discovering classics and poetry 05:50 - Dropping out of school at 15, discovering philosophy, and first love 09:34 - LSD, first druid initiation, and intensive self-study of world religions 15:08 - Psychedelic experiences as a mystery tradition 18:17 - About the Ancient Greek mystery schools 21:51 - Eastern and Western enlightenments 23:33 - What are the essential ingredients of a mystery school? 26:24 - Music and the mysteries 29:53 - Kabbalah and verbal fluency 30:56 - The importance of a brahmacharya phase 33:02 - Thomas' philosophical enlightenment 35:10 - The consequences of the closing of the Greek mystery schools 39:21 - The Delphic games 40:50 - The influence of Thomas' mother 51:16 - Baháʼí and interfaith activities 54:42 - Reconciling the schools of Islam 57:24 - Relentless intellectual curiosity 01:01:53 - Writing a sequel to Newton's ‘Principia Mathematica' 01:06:39 - The secrets of Thomas' prodigious work ethic 01:09:50 - Enlightenments, the book of Enoch, and Comparative Diabology … To find our more about Dr Daffern, visit: - http://www.educationaid.net/ … For more interviews, videos, and more visit: - www.guruviking.com Music ‘Deva Dasi' by Steve James

Delphic is an adjective that means obscure or ambiguous. The Delphi in Greece was the site of a temple of Apollo. An oracle, or fortune teller, resided there. Her prophecies were often ambiguous and difficult to interpret. Today when we use the term Delphic to describe someone or something we're not suggesting they have prophetic powers, but rather, that they are unclear or muddy. Working with Tammy has been great, but I often wish she would be more direct and clear in her instructions. Last week's orders were downright Delphic. We weren't sure if she wanted us to deliver eight bottles of root beer or drink them.

“Beauty is only the start of bearable terror”. These lines are uttered, by Jean-Luc Godard himself, in 1983’s Prenom Carmen. Wild of hair, cigar to his lips. A Delphic oracle treading a tightrope between madness and cinema. In the years between 1983 and 1993, Godard turned his camera away from the screeching confections of his revolutionary period, and began to ask bigger and more transcendent questions. Like God. Like the relationship of man and woman. Like love (be it blue-balled or consummated). Languid, soft, graceful. On the surface, these films - Prénom Carmen (1983), Hail Mary/Je vous salue, Marie (1985), and Hélas pour Moi (1993) - look more like film-films; proper ‘arthouse’ stuff. And people have a tendency to disregard them because of this. Hitting middle age, what was Godard really aiming at? And does this period of his prolific filmmaking career still carry the banner of his earliest and most well remembered films? Naturally, Owen and Ralph take up the task of finding out.

Today we will be looking at the delphic maxims, as a whole. We will be talking about how to apply them to our every day life as modern worshippers, and looking at the historical context to some of them and how we can bring them into our lives as people who do not live in ancient times. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/katheryn76/support
EPISODE 17, APOLLO'S FAITHFUL.Welcome back to Spartan History Podcast, we're back on the Spartan narrative this time and taking a look at the early religious practices of the city's inhabitants.Although often understated, the Spartans were an incredibly pious people, even by the standards of piety set by the ancient Greek world of the day. Herodotus recorded in his histories that they placed more faith in the words of the gods than they did in those of men. I'll be stepping through all of the major festivals and celebrations of their religious calendar, paying special attention to the dualistic nature of varied deities revered to tease out the origin stories buried within the holy rites. Still in the very early part of the archaic phase, the fast solidification of the Olympic Pantheon supplanted the many forms of indigenous worship that were there before. Rather than discard and abandon ancient practice, the Spartans' in many instances amalgamated it with the more popular and homogeneous Olympian deities. Lastly, we'll see the largely reciprocal relationship had between the Delphic oracle and Sparta, one that stretches back to the very beginning of Spartan dominance in the Peloponnese.I hope you all enjoy and take care.*No special content this time, photos for website updated. **If you hear lightning and thunder during the episode it isn't just Zeus' rage at being left out of the story, its been thunderstorming most of the week here and I couldn't squeeze a record in between lightning strikes. Introduction - Providence simply means that God is God. - The Creator is never taken by surprise. “God’s works of providence are his most holy, wise and powerful preserving and governing all his creatures and all their actions.” (Shorter Catechism #11) 1. A Providential Meeting (v16-18) - A Spiritual Showdown is coming. - The ‘python spirit’ of the Delphic oracle (Greece). - The slave girl was a pythia, channelling the serpent’s power. - Satan tries to disarm the truth by attacking the messengers. - Be warned: these things really do work – don’t go there! - You can’t blame God for the wicked things you do. (WCF 5.4). 2. A Providential Arrest (v19-24) - God uses ‘ordinary means’ in this case. - Paul and Silas are going to jail! - In the stocks. - Miserable? No – praying, singing praises to God! 3. A Providential Earthquake (v25-30) - Doors open, chains off … but no one ran away! - ‘Don’t harm yourself! We’re all here!’ (v28) - ‘What must I do to be saved?’ (v29) - ‘Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved – you and your household.’ (v31) 4. A Providential Salvation (v31-40) - ‘Then they spoke the word of the Lord to him and to all the others in his house.’ (v32) - He washed their wounds. - They were baptised immediately. - Salvation’s joy: A midnight meal. - Pressing home the authority of God – Paul’s ‘sit in’. Conclusion ‘Sin would be a very remarkable achievement, if by it we could remove ourselves from God’s sovereign and absolute power! … But it is not so.’ - God is never taken by surprise by His creation. - The greatest example is the cross. Five Practical Applications of God’s Providence: (1) Anxiety (2) Prayer (3) Complacency (4) Endurance (5) Joy
EPISODE 15, LYCURGUS, THE WOLF WORKER.Welcome back to the Spartan History Podcast, this time we return to the Spartan narrative and sink our teeth into the most mercurial being of their legend, Lycurgus.A liminal figure, striding over the threshold of the dark and archaic ages, the Spartans of the classical period were unsure of his status, divine or otherwise. An early Delphic oracle was even recorded expressing similar doubts as to his position between the world of man and Olympus. Regardless, the attributions assigned to his life and his policy of reform weighed heavily on Spartan law and custom for centuries.I'll be starting with a biography of his life and take a detailed look at some of his greatest achievements as lawmaker. Then, breaking down the sources I'll look to debunk some of the more outlandish events tied to his legend and set them in their proper place chronologically. Finishing with my own hypothesis relating to the creation of his myth and hopefully leaving a well rounded picture of his acts, deeds and their significance to classical Spartan history.I hope you all enjoy and take care.*Special content this month is a small article on the life of Plutarch, available free to members. Welcome to episode 26, “The High Priestess of Delphi,” featuring composer, choreographer, master weaver, and Sapphic feminist, Eva Palmer-Sikelianos (1874-1952). After almost founding a lesbian artist colony on the Greek island of Lesbos with fellow Sapphic pioneer, Natalie Barney, Eva wedded renowned Greek poet, Angelos Sikelianos. Fusing their reverence for ancient Greek tradition with the Universal brotherhood of Theosophy, they settled in Greece, and brought about the Delphic movement, for which Eva provided traditional hand-woven costumes, choreography, and music, as well as funding a microtonal organ customized for Byzantine tuning. Through Eva’s fascinating and under-regarded life, we’ll explore sapphic feminism, Theosophy, and the Delphic movement, while this episode offers the most extensive overview of her scarcely available recorded music. Additionally, he has written over 50 original scores for film including his first, the Sundance-Festival-winning CAPTAIN ABU RAED. Outside of games, Austin also maintains a busy concert composing schedule, with regular appearances throughout the world. Austin Wintory's most recent original score is for the interactive murder mystery game, ERICA, developed by Flavourworks and released by Sony Entertainment. In the game, you become Erica, a brave young lady plagued with nightmares of your father's murder. With the traumatic events that have haunted you as a child dragged back into the light of the present day via grisly new clues, it's up to you to unearth the shocking truth behind this devastating tragedy. Apollo & Me with Cate Montana American author Kathryn Adams has a last-minute plan: chill out on a Greek island and recover from her latest book launch. Apollo, the devastatingly handsome ancient Greek god of wisdom and light, has an agenda he's been cooking up for over a thousand years: Come back to Earth, obtain redemption for his betrayal of Kathryn in her previous life as a Delphic temple priestess, rekindle their love and get her to join forces with him in a desperate gamble to save humanity from the evil doomsday plot of one of his fellow gods. A cross-time tale of deathless love, magic and sexual healing, Apollo & Me explodes the myths around older women and sex, the relationship between the gods and man, man and woman, and the very nature of the world itself. sweat in for listening this way Dragon will put it in the description of the episode like we always do to help you out here that'll refute that's what the point of this podcast is do to do is like were trying to help people out mattering to help you here like one thing one little thing we should do like up to copy Pete Holmes podcast I think we should do like a free shot up he calls Pete's pics I like that I like doing little shot out to read we were to be used so many apps and like productivity things that I I came across trim you know what trim is a OEA that is a dad is yeah when you called buffer trimmed in total dad like you can sum up breath yeah I'm a divorced dad will know what that means dad that trend I think it's from.co want to say but basically it's a bot that it scans through your yet to input all your accounts so I did with our business credit card okay what it does is at the main hook that got me and was like will look at your your Internet provider deal and will see if we get you better deal oh right planning on about the states and maybe something everybody's doing so they get a cut of the commission if they make a deal right it's it it's like all artificial intelligence stuff it's just a bot and are they negotiating quote unquote up a new deal on whatever because that's all that stuff isn't like a salesman thing it's like these Internet providers or any company they just go we can give a promotion of this if the customer asked for right I love how it's always like all we can do that you totally can do that easily right type it in your little computer there you totally cancel it it's cool I I like this kind of stuff up and focusing on personal finance a lot lately so it's it's helping in that direction words like you're paying a lot on this credit card you may want to think of these options which a lot of people might think is intrusive but I I volunteered to get that can help there's no one called Ernie with FICA not IE but a Y okay but Bert I link it up to my it to link it up to Amazon my Amazon account business account is an account and it will show us if we got worked on a price it can go back and try to get that lower price you get that refund oh if you paid too much on something right we pay for new Meebo camera which we need to do at some point) the price goes down in the next like 60 days and they give a 60 day guarantee it'll hook that up in that's like a bot as well it's like that old Circuit City commercial remember that with a kid brought that you bought the Walkman and then he brought it back in music in this later it was this militantly given the cash yeah and I don't brothers trying to do that it was like now. Now that you even get here ethic the boss what no I did I wrote my puffy 5 miles is pretty dangerous is to present Veria. Like friendly by the city in the 90s were your parents they don't know where I so we'd be getting a little hottie toddy and if you want to close your eyes we getting up pad it daddy it's a sweat equity podcast that was that was good I'll take a shower when that if I gave you a shorter one this thing II couldn't I know you look like you had a rough day I've doing a lot of coding oh my God computer codes are so stupid nothing makes sense really hard to learn on the fly we get that analysis paralysis, then going all really try to make a rule in office or if were working on something like intensely for 45 minutes we take a break and try to talk to the other person yeah the problem is like that's good if you you're not making any progress all I need is a little bit of a little knowledge of progress okay now I can get back into it and it's just that's never ending yet but we had a look back and goes that the best way to do it I know you saying like that's enough to get me godly nose drive me crazy to not get the puzzle figured out the Callaghan opiate addict looking for Vicodin you little bit like okay you know that guys mom got some in his house let's go steal some and you just here to keep your on the mat here on the make mad crickets probably at Circuit City right now yeah well you know it, back to do not what Circuit City is the why I know that's crazy why is it of recognizable brand everything from the 80s and 90s is going to come back because we go all auto that yeah because then people our age are the ones were certain make money and then we can spend that money was twice yummy shed reboots right is like oh this is familiar that's bankable I don't know what Circuit City's and a BS in entity I just I read something on LinkedIn is light Circuit City's using Brandon to come back what if it was a circuit city act like a city they could go visit and visit its glow to circuit its merger inside really on granite right that would be need roller coasters address the people dressed up like no computer chips walk around what was its is RadioShack still around I feel like 10 years ago you like now and now they been around for so long someone told me the way they stood around because I've never seen anybody buy anything from RadioShack since maybe 95 and we are FICA done 10-year-olds right I think they made money off like warranties like that was their jam yeah if you bought something there is gone forever it was always weird like a lot of remote control stuff like for like cars and airplanes and all that stuff which it it should emerge with Spencer's gifts and just become like the Virgin store forever it does have a topic of weird creepy feel to it stuff that they're selling nothing that you really want but you could use it but they saw the website looking at right now pretty awful well I mean as silly as it is these things have brand equity like yeah we were talking about him and I bet people are listening right now they're like yeah our budget right I was around I had my LA gears on is running in their Ellie Geer could make light of any my addressing batteries on was the old joke that every standup told you had something to touch on before you get into the did you wanted productivity stuff oh will I was a saying we could talk about her oh yeah personality questionnaire thing again just because it's not something that we just didn't know and it went away once we started to like talk about it and think about it's like man is so much more to this thing than we realize yet so it's for those that don't know go back you can listen to the episode probably about two months ago Eric and I took the advance personality questionnaire it's basically like an employment assessment test right would say our mentor with co-mentor urges to do it I don't know well he dispenses advice and we take that's true about light on I have more I don't think he and he accepted that role yet but were to calm that for now latching on Sage I don't know what I know he's giving us advice and taken it right he's successful the route we we took it man's foot down and I probably thought about every day since you yeah I mean once we figured out exactly what it was doing in overall what it's doing is teaching you what church telling you what you're good at and what your bad which sounds obvious but when you can start to take what you're good at and put more energy into that instead of worrying about improving something that your personality is not necessarily going to allow you to be good at you know like for us it was administrative things neither of us want to do that could we suck at it and there it right what yeah it so it's like so if your manager are your own of business this is a really good cheat code because it's it's a pretty reliable exam you been around for a long time now might Mike my big beef with it is just because I don't love doing it or have a proclivity for administrative does mean I can't do it right right so I think it's kind of a long term, looking at employee hiring right I might hire might hire someone that sucks that like us at the administrative but they can do it right yeah but I know down the line the third really good a project managing yeah but I'm sure this does two things are related but I don't think you to be good at one without being good at the other probably but yeah it's it's it's definitely something you can use to target specific if you have a very specific job that needs to be done that requires a certain personality trait you can have these results look at them and you'll see somebody who's good at it you know and and we can target them more than another person there's variations of this test there's there's there's another one I'd I just took for fun these recently does 138 questions the one the that a PQ the one were talking about that we took that once 40 right thing was more than that sounds 8080 yeah and then like the first the first 20 were like aptitudes so it was like some basic arithmetic staff were like it was like this persons in line Mary's in line this person's ahead of him this person is behind him where is worst jab yeah you like all right I guess I'll write this out like a falcon for traders and then it has the wrong with writing it out you write it out was it was it timed that one turned the AP Q was time I believe yeah so that stress that always stresses me out because I don't read very well well that's part of the test my reading comprehension was always love songs like I would sweat that out to connect to a minimum of time to read it because I read a lot of stuff without reading the whole thing later everyone's emails if you want to email us at law Atoka works Ellie WTO CO WR Katz or Eric Atoka works TOC owed WORKS.com to get some emails and I get bullet points are nice notes bullet point for us so AP Q it's like you answer is your actual self and a question and you answer as like the best job interview version of you right you answer in a way that you think a job interview were would want them right minutes are right if that makes sense yeah like what what what the biggest brown nose right because I did exactly and that was where we were discussing legal we couldn't we never matched up with the brown nose leaves me I don't think my answers I don't remember honestly we both scored highly independent yeah we have is just good but right now we could use some Soviet teamwork taking taken thumb through it thumps are a bunch of sales profiles at thumbs through a bunch of a bunch of management profiles right right I'm looking at what what was yours like what was your best one I think I know my worst one was I think project-management was like in 19 but it's, like I guess I don't know I don't I don't find myself hating it like I hate admin for sure right client my highest was the need to serve at a 95% yeah which is to make sense yeah it makes sense for somebody like me I'm not exactly driven by money like a more driven to make somebody else happy or you know help out in a way sort of thing that's good it's it really shine the light on these things that you might not even realize about yourself it's tough youth because you have confirmation bias up obviously going into it right I'm stubborn when I get notes about me doing anything so it's tough it was tough for me to cut it bite my tongue and just take will take this test and what the results were back yeah it's weird because I think for both of us humor or creativity like is like a big part of who we are yeah thing is that it doesn't really count for that you know ethic yeah I'm in I can say now what is its intensity drive is is a good way to put the drive is like drive is incentivize right so like I guess no work ethic it doesn't need to be incentivized the drive is like all selfish usually but why are you working hard it's to make yourself feel better in the end right whether you're making money or building at table I believe that's called psychological egoism maybe I don't know how to be will have to look that one up that that I'm pulling out of a psych class from college from like 10 years ago yeah I probably got that wrong definite but it is it is like it's a good Chico I think it gives you if you if you have to if you hire quickly Adam at a higher level I think it's a good way to go okay this person probably better for this long-term yeah this I mean that if you're using it for hiring again use it higher level situation for sure you're not you McDonald's employees aren't necessarily doing this test you will need to now it's like that but for yet for somebody you invest a lot of money and definitely worth 150 bucks yet because I mean that's mean that hiring secret cost that people don't realize I think they just think every office eventually just sucks over time and I think the tech people kinda get it in a way I don't like the ping-pong tables and ship but I like that they are good about the psychology of making good work environment what's the most efficient what's the best flex hours or you know you can have as many days off as you want as long as you get work done I think you're seeing a lot more of that stuff so I think a lot more of this is due to be commonplace going forward even though this is 100-year-old tester some of that right will I mean it's getting easier to quantify things that in the past have not been quantifiable you know like your personality or whatever you and those been around for hundred years but something you will come along you know I don't know what they do at Google were phone companies whatever you read Google questions now David will do that maybe next pod that those questions are like there's no right answer kind of thing is how you figure figuring it out eight those are difficult my wife is tell me some of them when she had my job interview she's like I've heard these other guys like cheating yeah you know you know how to answer this if she's doing for fun but I guess if you're proactively doing for fun you're not ready ready to win score high on the nerd right scale, yeah your near my boo love you and are it so I I was hit you up on Friday because I was like oh I didn't even look through every one of these job titles and the highest when I had was what we were looking to move her mentor is scared straight on who we are basically and it was that thing of like I think we skipped one and I don't know if it's on purpose or if it was a or if if it just was a skeptic is going really quick but my highest score was 88 with the dynamic CEO yeah and I got a lot of stuff works like I'm a best fit for ops and I was like yeah I mean okay yeah I get it I get it's one of the center it's hard to take that and go I yeah sure right you can't just be a CEO couldn't do the other jobs first my conservative Seo score was 69 and then conservative that high six never the yet we didn't even realize we first talked about this the different things that it it rate you want in terms of it'll it'll break down what kind of different managers there are and how you would work as that sort of manager I knew got really bummed because you thought you scored so vanilla light will I scored low basically I should be homeless that I shouldn't have a job there's nothing this like that's not true at all you got bunkers of the crosshairs right there for the four quadrants right expressive communicator direct driver whatever they are with us to more but yeah I mean you got Scott I know what were going with this in it then in the middle you're just kind of a good your good average of all of those which is good right that's a good and it's accurate to I would consider myself adaptable I think that's the biggest thing for digital services in consulting by far can you come in learn it on the fly and learn to work with people to that you don't know that well yeah become fast friends with them and figure out how to extract what you need from them yeah I me for what I'm doing now is it's perfect because I'm sit here googling stuff every day that I have no idea how to do it until I figured out right in adapting and that should get it gets easier to to figure out how to find stuff because you proactively go when you're looking up something else you might find an answer that to something you may need in the future kind of thing yeah and you'll start checking them off because it just saves you so much time speaking saving time do you have anything more on the snow by letting people should take something like this one of these tests I'm sure there's a free version out there of something something close to this it's not were not completely off-topic with this because you can take the time to take this test and streamline either yourself or you know what you're doing or if you're hiring somebody can streamline that way so it all comes together a lot of the stuff you need to take time in the beginning to sort it out and then it'll help your life later on if listeners to have taken this test tell us what you got what you got back in what you do actually doing now like I did that become interested yet for sure what were doing Facebook group thing we need to start engaging little bit more I think that be fun I want to engage with the listeners I did this being an interactive show eventually would be I think out be something that so interesting to cut be able to because will talk to everybody if it's a good question you know yeah that's a weird thing about podcasts is not a lot of interactive with listener podcasts it's a lot of you could talk that and then maybe you sent something and then the next show they're talking about a sort of thing but we need to think about that yeah I mean I would love a slack group is there there are I know I push like a lot but there's a lot of slack like groups that are just for chatting about stuff like this yeah so maybe one day that but right now Facebook groups is easiest because we can just add all her friends know once if we want working to get you you can't room from then pages may be dying a little bit so I think I talked to a bunch of people I was in the is a pirate in what Tempest, Mardi Gras code Gasparilla and you know what's funny is I talked to probably three people individually that like I listen to every episode what you never told me that all your friends, so I would tell them tell your friends and all helps we've got some good inertia we can't talk about it with the show but some stuff that may happen that's big or may take us a lot of sweat equity in a couple years to yeah he's the titular yes phrase in their to get to that next level so we could get it soon with a little oomph for me all you want to know the chief code rate review five-star write funny but funny one it will read it I look like that your name me I look like Nicolas Cage and Conair like you can write that do it my job I look like I might Joe Pesci after he gets his hair blown off in a blowtorch and Malone nice yeah, the patchy yeah or Michael Stipe when he had days the DM is run all well I wasn't doing insults for you so love man it's all love so ticket I got to hug the Stanley Cup and then I yell talk to people wire which is so drug like thank you for thank you for like listen that's awesome but what you tell me where doesn't tell other people like us like rambling so let's get into this new little list of the productivity stuff okay make work life little bit easier you been working with Zap here yeah that's a good one that beer connects different apps that don't normally connect so go on their Z API AER.com they have a whole list of I haven't come across an app that I can't find on there that like in need 500 yeah in the directory right all the big guys yet it acts as a if this happens then do this sort of thing so it will connect your different accounts like we have a forms account that we use cold cognitive forms and Chuck are due in the you can connect when somebody submits a form middle go through that beer and then it'll go to another for example sales lead company forward bore everybody look to set the cell on this is how much of your time on this blue marble do you want to spend doing duplicate of ship that's all I got about half that's why get back to the like just do it a little take time in the beginning and then it will be streamlined later on yeah don't you can't automate everything in your life for your business what you can do a lot of stuff that's like okay forms are a big one for us so if you have a website it's like whatever your intake form is whatever you just signed someone and they gotta fill some out anything that has some kind of interaction were you don't need to be there right the customer client can fill it out on their own I called Dana routing I don't know if that's right long-term sense but they fill out the form and instead of it just be in the form that it all that data goes to you can take it and integrate it with like your email system like MailChimp right so to pull that email out and now it's going to this form that you needed this intake form and MailChimp and it's going to snow the phone numbers going over your CRM like salesforce or write pipe drive we use as a sales and marketing CRM so my thing about this is twofold with the forms on on websites a big on these because a people that use paper forms just the flicking convoluted all right you printed out you signed a list to send it back it's yet your Creole else is half and others and in the ADD era like if you don't get them right then on the phone doesn't work on the phone like it's good it slows you down many of the double back yeah her hatred for admin actually helps with this so or the other part is less human error yet we had a lot of law firms that do paper intake forms and then there fill them out and like you can't be the person tailoring the left yeah like talk yet 09 pages in it and then transcribing it to so it was error there are two Yep it mean anything that is tedious and small you can almost always find a way to streamline an online can't streamline playing with your kids but not yet up that's you know well we get that a RVR so zap your it's you make zaps and there like you can make a recipe yeah I think they call respite or to triggers I believe so just yeah it's it's it's that programming language if I do this this will happen right so zappers more business associated some people like to do a lot of the Google's G sweet stuff connects with all that stuff you it it's just one of the century like if you're frustrated by like administrative staff this is kind of the best thing for it wheat we should be utilizing a little bit more on the communication so if someone comments on any social media we should have is that the taking slideshow yeah I mean we do for clients but notes one of the things where we should be utilizing slackers or communication hope for all these things, right and then you have I have TTT and that's gonna work and life stuff stands for if this then that yeah that one has an app on iOS I don't think Zappa has a nap early which Dixon shouldn't be a big deal but Connie is as I do a lot of that I have TTT stuff like kinda like the kids are font to sleep but I can't get up yeah so I can like about have my phone on me for 20 minutes I'll try to do something productive and so like I have the Phillips smart home stuff yeah so if the fire goes off our smoke detectors go off those those hues will turn red which is like little stuff like that you can do yeah super handy I need to do it I have one set up that stupid home every screenshot I take it'll back it up over Evernote and notebook so it's nice to cousins like my wife lost her phone and didn't save everything and even if you your good about saving stuff you know sometimes it just hasn't backed up yet yeah and you take a picture you got kids pictures and stuff and I don't know it's it's a good thing to have backup systems like that coverage will they do of the iCloud so give it sometimes doesn't sink as you decide my steps to full of like old-school porn I download all my yeah Brighton does a lot of video lot of hard drives around out to be surprises VHS is they don't they don't compress it they the pink ones especially rim of the pink cassette die never meet either on me neither a VHS I had good parents who about what I watch so I didn't ever get access to that always went to the parent the kids that had should he parents house they always have the cool Lego cards and like yes it does let you just do whatever you want only that helmet to do nunchuck fights all day okay just don't bother me yes so the real thing wish I could get there mentally rewatch glory your nine years old the outside the school glory sounds nice using Lori know it's pretty pretty gruesome Who's Who stars and that Dinsdale Mike 90s movie about Civil War swimming Denzel Washington yeah but it didn't cells are there exactly so I would say zap your the take away from this episode should be like go check it out we don't work for zap your eye if TTT were trim or Ernie or Asher's strategies that does the personality quiz were just trying to get stuff right yet check out a mean if you are starting a business and you had a bunch of different apps you wanted to play with go to zap your first and see what because if you're going to if your goal between one app or another that to the basically the same thing check it out on here check out the integrations that has an upbeat zap your integrations but just see if it's compatible and then choose add that into your your line of thinking yeah I do that I do that was slack if it if it purely integrates the slack it's like a reverse engineering yet okay we need a we need a cloud accounting software like I don't know should be used fresh books let's see if it integrates only to slack Delphic exactly or we know we need a project manager I did I I trimmed it down to the ones that already integrate with slack because that evolve so much stuff going back and forth I didn't want to have happier in their so it was, that thing but we can use after your put it in their to like it like be monkey in the middle and cut a pull out stuff as well yet for coverage but like we chose Reich and I haven't learned it's easy to learn is to take the time to do it got it diners on the one that's the problem Rose internally funded better one will wonder this is great for tasks I was using is and do but once it blew up once I didn't once I didn't stay on it for like a week it was so hard to read it was so hard to regroup everything really yeah I just the way that at work because it was like for some reason it kept everything you did in their and I was like I had to like chat message the guys is like and we cannot reset this how do I do this like a charts blow it up start over Leica we keep it all and then I had it for another couple months of sitting there and subscription land in trim, cut it off, and I hate to use this she's is a lot actual these for for the listeners but like all this stuff is like yeah you got it's like you want to be healthy the first two months going over the flock and suck right you want to be more productive and streamlined ship it's going to be like a couple nights of just sitting down and trying to hammer out like sitting there watching YouTube videos to save you time later yeah we call the ski slope of hours work more pitching hours were like a retainer it was a huge ski slope and then it kind of peters out right because of all or all the most the hours are dedicated in the beginning to on sort of organizational things yet we want to learn the client when on boredom and then we got a set you up and it's a lot of set up work and then fades out same thing with almost everything everything you do in life is like that right yet you set it up in the beginning your you're better off I don't know if you have a hankering to bow hunt like I do but I know it's going to suck really bad what does it have to suck and was in suck people born bad or do they become bad or some like that or they inherent our people are inherently good yes like old philosophical questions yeah but I swore I answered it that they are inherently good maybe it makes with maybe that's what got you to seven you got that one was for that one question so you got anything else anything on your mind now not really we got a heart out anyway as I got Transcript: Socrates was an enormously influential Greek philosopher even though he wrote nothing down. Socrates was not a scientist. In fact, he speculated that the most important thing to do was to understand your own thoughts and motivations. As he said, “The unexamined life is not worth living,” and he gave the Delphic injunction to “Know thyself.” Although he was not a scientist, Socrates’ questioning nature is at the heart of modern science because he believed that it was not worth taking people’s opinion just because they were senior figures in the community or your elders. His idea of questioning everything that you hear is the basis of logic in the scientific method, and it got him into sufficient trouble that he was killed for it.

During a dinner with King Delphic, Alex learns that the Talpids have captured Seth and are torturing him for information. Delphic threatens to bring Seth to the castle. Alex goes back and tells this to Bryna and Jake, who are at a loss, not sure if they should go back. Tory and Neal figure out how to use the spellbook and quilt in tandem, which gets them closer to the Delphic Kingdom, but not quite where they intended.
Garten brings Alex to the Delphic castle. Alex meets his father, King Delphic, for the first time in many years. Reveling in capturing Alex, Garten traps him in the castle, making sure he can't escape. Tory and Neal, still in the Last Kingdom, work out a way to get back to everyone else and, possibly, save the day using the now found spellbook.
Lilia convinces Neal and Eli to go get the spellbook from Zahava's cottage. Neal is initially reluctant, not sure what will happen. Tory sets out with the two men, a bit surprised that she must, due to her possession of the story-quilt.Forest and Alex get themselves into the Delphic city, but without any money. Not quite sure what to do, the two of them wander around the city, towards the castle, trying to figure out a way in.While exploring Hildegarde, Jake and Bryna find the library.
Making their way through to the Delphic Kingdom, Alex and Forest try to figure out how to get into the castle. In the new kingdom Tory becomes frustrated after a fight between Neal and Eli leads to sulky silence. Once getting them up and moving, Tory runs ahead and meets a woman in a small nomadic village who reveals a unique and useful secret.
Alex, Forest and Marina make their way back to the tower in the Inland sea. Tory comes up with a plan of escape, allowing Eli, Neal and herself to get to a completely different kingdom. Jake is joined by Bryna and Seth on his journey back to the Delphic kingdom.
Alex convinces Forest and Marina to take him out of the Cloud-Jumper Kingdom Tree, by talking with them about his dreams. Jake gets to the village and meets up with Karen, Paul and Bryna. He learns about the Talpid attack, and the destruction of Bryna's troupe. In the Delphic kingdom, the King explains to his captors what he plans to do with the spell that Neal originally started.
Continuing on his journey, Jake is shown the way towards the village by the farmer and his wife. Norlis, Tory and Eli make their way into the Delphic capital city by pretending to be street performers. By scaring the guards they get themselves arrested and sneak into the Delphic Castle.
Tory and Norlis are captured by a rough group of people living outside of the Delphic capital city. While in their care, Tory empties out her pack to figure out what's in it. As she pulls things out, she finds a story quilt. King Delphic comes and interviews Neal about the spell which bound him to the Westover Castle, Hildegarde. The spell allows him to communicate with the Delphic castle as well.
Delphic speaks with Linden about stopping Tory and her friends from retrieving the objects they need to break the spell. Tory, Seth, Alex, and Marina follow Micah to the Cloud-Jumper Kingdom Tree. Alex accidentally poisons himself with some berries. Micah informs Tory of how the Kingdom Trees work, to a certain extent. Luckily, they soon get a chance to see exactly what one looks like.
Trying to piece things together, Neal again thinks back two hundred years. While protecting the castle of Westover, Neal finishes a picture of a village and a man with an ox-cart full of fruit. With Marina's help, Tory gets to the Tower where she meets Alex. The two of them 'enjoy' a dinner with Alex’s mother. Alex decides that he and Tory should continue together. As part of his preparation of their journey, Alex gives Tory a knife for her own protection. Tory introduces Alex to Marina, and Alex is smitten. Marina tells Tory and Alex that the three of them must get to Delphic's city.
Alex's mother is very worried about Jake - and with reason. Alex cares too, but he's there and Jake isn't. It feels unfair, somehow. After Jake and Neal are captured, Bryna takes Tory and Jeremy into her troupe. Tory begins to perform with Bryna’s dance troupe as they make their way to the tower where Alex lives. Neal flashes back to when he was a painter for the Queen of Westover. He witnesses the Queen declare war on the Delphic kingdom. Once she declares war, the Queen asks Neal if he can protect the kingdom.
