So you'd like to know if any of the Wailers played with Bob Marley? What happened to the Wailers after Bob's death? How many songs did the group have? And what was Bob Marley's biggest hit? We answer all of these questions and more in this episode. Bob Marley was born in 1945, in Saint Ann, Jamaica. His father was a Jamaican of English descent. His mother was a black teenager. Bob started his career with the Wailers, a group he formed with Peter Tosh and Bunny Livingston in 1963. Marley married Rita Marley in 1966, and it was she who introduced him to Rastafarianism. By '69 Bob, Tosh and Livingston had fully embraced Rastafarianism, which greatly influenced not only Marley's music but reggae music in general. It didn't take long for Bob Marley's music to come to the attention of Chris Blackwell, the owner of Island Records. Chris immediately signed the Wailers and produced their first album, "Catch a Fire". This was followed by "Burnin'", featuring tracks as "Get Up Stand Up" and "I Shot the Sheriff." Eric Clapton's cover of that song reached #1 in the US. In 1974 Tosh and Livingston left the Wailers to start solo careers. Marley later formed the band "Bob Marley and the Wailers", with his wife Rita as one of three backup singers called the I-Trees. This period saw the release of some groundbreaking albums, such as "Natty Dread" and "Rastaman Vibration".In 1976, during a period of spiraling political violence in Jamaica, an attempt was made on Marley's life. Marley left for England, where he lived in self-exile for two years. In England "Exodus" was produced, and it remained on the British charts for 56 straight weeks. This was followed by another successful album, "Kaya." These successes introduced reggae music to the western world for the first time, and established the beginning of Marley's international status. In 1977 Marley consulted with a doctor when a wound in his big toe would not heal. More tests revealed malignant melanoma. He refused to have his toe amputated as his doctors recommended, claiming it contradicted his Rastafarian beliefs. Others, however, claim that the main reason behind his refusal was the possible negative impact on his dancing skills. The cancer was kept secret from the general public while Bob continued working.Returning to Jamaica in 78, he continued work and released "Survival" in 1979 which was followed by a successful European tour. In 1980 he was the only foreign artist to participated in the independence ceremony of Zimbabwe. It was a time of great success for Marley, and he started an American tour to reach blacks in the US. He played two shows at Madison Square Garden, but collapsed while jogging in NYC's Central Park in 1980. The cancer diagnosed earlier had spread to his brain, lungs and stomach. Bob Marley died in a Miami hospital on May 11, 1981. He was 36 years old. This week we are joined by one of the original Wailers, Al Anderson - an American guitarist who became Bob's closest and most trusted friend. Bob had asked Al to make sure that his beloved music transcended his death and Al has obliged him all these years. Today, Al Anderson leads the group called The Original Wailers and their constant touring ensures that audiences everywhere still know and enjoy the incredible music of Bob Marley. For more information about Bob and the Wailers head to the website https://www.bobmarley.com/ I really hope you enjoy the story of Reggae's founder - Bob Marley. The DisruptorsWith Liz FarrCPA TrendlinesAl Anderson is out to change audit as accountants know it. Auditors, he declares, are spending too much time being busy instead of being valuable. Get the free preview of his forthcoming handbook: “The New Manifesto for Accountants," Instant Download (PDF) Anderson is preaching a revolutionary framework for audit leadership, described in his forthcoming handbook from CPA Trendlines.Auditors, he says, should be looking closer at transactions, instead of focusing narrowly on the balance sheet. The transactional approach, rather than a balance sheet approach, provides more value to the client because it reveals the bumps in the road that happen as a transaction rolls up to the general ledger so that it can be recorded correctly. For example, consider invoices that could go out earlier, which causes clients to lose a few days of cash flow. You're unlikely to notice it if you tie the receivable sub-ledger to the general ledger.
Atlantic bluefin tuna have been swimming in our oceans, and in the human imagination, for millions of years. Topping out at more than 1,500 pounds apiece, these apex predators face their greatest threat not from sharks or a dwindling food supply but from our unwillingness to stop overfishing them (to say nothing of the occasional catastrophic oil spill). But our understanding of how these majestic creatures navigate the ocean, defined by an imaginary line through the middle of the Atlantic, has been challenged by recent discoveries—and the life story of one tuna in particular. Karen Pinchin's new book, Kings of Their Own Ocean, tells the story of that fish: an Atlantic bluefin named Amelia, tagged in 2004 by the fisherman Al Anderson off the coast of Rhode Island and recaptured twice more before her ultimate death in the Mediterranean. Pinchin joins the podcast to talk about what Amelia's tale has to tell us about fishing and climate, science and commerce, and the future of the seas.Go beyond the episode:Karen Pinchin's Kings of Their Own Ocean: Tuna, Obsession, and the Future of Our SeasLet the Monterey Bay Aquarium's Seafood Watch do the work of choosing sustainable seafood for you (you can even download and print little pocket guides for each region—en español tambien!)In our Winter 2023 issue, Juli Berwald considered what coral might teach us about avoiding ecological catastropheJohn Dos Passos loved fishing for tuna just as much as Papa Hemingway didAnna Badhken spoke to us in 2018 about how overfishing and warming waters have devastated a Senegalese fishing communityTune in every week to catch interviews with the liveliest voices from literature, the arts, sciences, history, and public affairs; reports on cutting-edge works in progress; long-form narratives; and compelling excerpts from new books. "Bluegrass Vacation” With close to 20 albums under his belt, including Country Love Songs, Let's Kill Saturday Night, and his fabulous new one Bluegrass Vacation, Robbie Fulks has had quite a career. Over the last thirty years the Pennsylvania born singer-songwriter has collaborated with everyone from Steve Albini to Dallas Wayne to NRBQ's Al Anderson, worked as a country music songwriter for the Music Row publisher API and scored two Grammy nominations in 2016 for Best Folk Album and Best American Roots Song. There's a lot that's cool about Robbie Fulks—his flatpicking guitar style, his poetic turns of phrase, his unique sense of humor and his penchant to cover songs you'd never think he'd cover—he's knocked out versions of tracks by everyone from The Bangles to Shania Twain, so you pretty much never know what's going to happen. But what's really cool about Robbie Fulks is that he's an engine of creative power and that engine hasn't dimmed once in his 30 year career. His new album Bluegrass Vacation is a rollicking and joyful blast of sheer bluegrass bliss. From One Glass of Whisky to Old Time Music is Here To Stay, Bluegrass Vacation is a joyful romp that references the genre with a respectful tip of the hat that breathes new life into an old tradition. www.robbiefulks.com www.bombshellradio.com www.stereoembersmagazine.com www.embersarts.com www.alexgreenonline.com Twitter: @emberseditor IG: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

On part two of this two part podcast I chat with Sharon Vaughn, one of the international songwriting greats. We chat about the ingredients for songwriting success, Garth Brooks performing in her honour when she was inducted in the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2019, coming out of her genre and writing musicals and pop songs including three for this years Eurovision. She also spoke about her work with Irish artists including Kieran Goss, Brendan Murphy of THE 4 OF US, Paul Brady and even Jedward! Her big new project is co-writing a musical with another legendary songwriter, Desmond Child (of Kiss and Bon Jovi fame). There is also a very special live performance of "Right on Time", which she co-wrote with Al Anderson. I hope you enjoy this episode as much as I did! A good-timing, honky-tonkin’, band-leading, song-writing, love-song-singing, blues-harp-blowing, tradition-nurturing, genre-busting, crowd-carrying, full-hearted flag bearer for all that’s true about music. That’s Heidi Newfield. And on her new solo album The Barfly Sessions — recorded without heed to music business convention — she’s finally captured her full range. “No one was telling me what to do,” Newfield says. “No one put me in a box. Anyone asking me, what is the new music like? Ummmmm, it’s like me!” After recording three albums while fronting Trick Pony, charting eight singles and branching out for her first solo project with the platinum-certified smash “Johnny & June,” Newfield knows her way around a studio … and a stage. A bold stylist and true entertainer, she greets peers and fans alike with her small frame, big voice, friendly smile and a hug. Sharp and well read, she knows herself and her audience. She could be voted most likely to not give a damn about anything but the music by a stunning collection of collaborators and co-writers: Al Anderson, Randy Houser, Jim Lauderdale, Delbert McClinton, Jon Randall, Mickey Raphael, Rivers Rutherford, Leslie Satcher, Chris Stapleton, Matt King and Kenny Vaughan.
Y lo hicieron gracias canciones como "I’ll Never Get Over You" que cantaba sobre días más largos y barbacoas encendidas. My Favorite Picture of You. Escuchar audio

Al Anderson (The Original Wailers, Bob Marley). Al chats to Andrew ahead of The Original Wailers Australian tour in December 2017.
Following the end of World War II, the United States was in the midst of an intense Space Race with the Soviet Union. The American people were inspired to support the Apollo mission - to be the first to land a man on the moon. This goal to reach uncharted territory required Americans to push the boundaries of scientific knowledge and live up to their pioneering heritage. Many of those pushing the scientific envelope worked for the Air Force’s Aeronautical Chart and Information Center and the Army Map Service, both NGA predecessor organizations. Today, lunar exploration is still going strong at NASA. Listen up as NGA Historian Gary Weir, Ph.D., NGA alumnus Al Anderson and NASA lunar geologist Noah Petro, Ph.D. talk about the nation's journey to land a man on the moon, and how far lunar reconnaissance has come since then.
