Dr. Matthew DiLallo, is a licensed Chiropractic Physician who graduated from Palmer College of Chiropractic. As the Vice President of the Sports Council Club, Dr. DiLallo collaborated with local athletic event organizers to provide treatment for competitors, showcasing his commitment to sports-focused chiropractic care. Before pursuing chiropractic education, Dr. DiLallo contributed his expertise as a Strength & Conditioning Coach for the Pittsburgh Pirates, working with their minor league teams in Bradenton, Florida. He has had several opportunities to work with athletes at the top of their sports! I appreciate having him on because he goes deep in his practice. It's very easy too stop bringing value to clients in the world we live in today , nd resting on our laurels when we're pursuing a discipline. However, I see Dr. Matt as a beacon of healing for the community and showing more people every day what's possible for human performance and abilities. My biggest take away from this conversation was the 3 T's! It's funny it always comes back to the simplest solutions. Sometimes we don't need teaching as much as we need reminding. I don't know about you, but when the world feels overwhelming and stressful, I know it's time to step back and take a mental health break. We all know how challenging life can get, and sometimes, the best thing we can do for ourselves is take a breather. In this episode, I dive into how to recognize when you need a break and, just as importantly, how to permit yourself actually to take one. It's so easy to get caught up in the hustle and bustle of daily life, but taking a moment to pause and recharge is vital for our mental and emotional well-being. I also talk about the impact of constantly consuming news and social media. It's no secret that the news can be heavy and often leaves us feeling drained. So, I share some tips on taking breaks from these sources or being intentional about following accounts that bring positivity and uplift our spirits. Our social media feeds can be a source of inspiration and joy if we curate them mindfully. Another key point is the importance of connecting with others. Whether it's family, friends, or support groups, surrounding ourselves with positive and supportive people can make a world of difference. It's about finding that balance and protecting our mental health. So, if you're feeling like the weight of the world is on your shoulders, or you just need some tips on how to take better care of your mental health, this episode is for you. As I aired this episode, I was wrapping up my radiation treatment and it got me thinking about the significance of acknowledging our milestones and triumphs, big or small. But here's a thought: Why do we often link celebrations with foods or drinks that might not be in line with our health aspirations? I'll open up about my personal experiences and the internal debates I've had around the best way to celebrate. My revelation? The real celebration is in continuing the practices that got us to where we are. For me, that means cherishing the nutritious meals I prepare, sticking to my health regimen, and investing in my well-being. Celebrating is all about embracing what makes us feel alive and vibrant, and I want to encourage all of you to see caring for yourself from a fresh perspective. So, today's episode is about redefining rewards and acts of self-love. Listen now and learn to celebrate your successes while you care for yourself. The most common concern I hear after breast cancer is what should I eat? Closely followed by: How do I lose weight? How do I motivate myself to exercise? But it's rare for people to focus first on managing emotions and reducing stress. Maybe it's because we don't realize the powerful impact that the mind has on the body. Or maybe we think life is supposed to be stressful, hard, and full of challenging people and relationships. Whether it's one of those reasons or any other, it's important to realize that supporting your best health MUST include managing your mind. That's not only a real and necessary thing, but there are proven strategies and benefits to doing so. In this episode, I'll talk about those benefits and strategies and offer some simple ways to start the important practice of training your brain. Think of the results you see when you train the body consistently and imagine how beneficial it will be to your mental and emotional health to be able to train your brain. It's simple, it's free, and it's worth the effort. The Beginner's Guide to Water Fasting for Personal Development Welcome to the beginner's guide to water fasting, a powerful tool for personal development. In this guide, we will explore the different types of fasting, discuss the optimal duration of fasts, and provide step-by-step instructions for beginners. Whether you're a listener of the Join Up Dots podcast or someone seeking personal growth, water fasting can be an excellent practice to integrate into your journey. So let's dive in! Section 1: Understanding Water Fasting Water fasting is an ancient practice that involves abstaining from food while consuming only water for a specific period. This process allows the body to rest, detoxify, and rejuvenate. There are several types of fasting, including: 1.1 Intermittent Fasting: This involves restricting your eating window to a specific time frame each day, typically 16-20 hours of fasting with a 4-8 hour eating window. 1.2 Extended Fasting: Extended fasting usually lasts for more than 24 hours and can range from a few days to several weeks. 1.3 Modified Fasting: Modified fasting allows the consumption of limited calories or specific types of food, such as juice fasting or bone broth fasting. Section 2: Determining Optimal Fasting Duration The optimal duration of a water fast varies from person to person, and it's important to consider your goals, health condition, and experience level. Here are some general guidelines: 2.1 Beginner's Fast: If you're new to fasting, starting with shorter fasts, such as 24-48 hours, is recommended. This allows your body to adjust and helps you gauge your tolerance. 2.2 Intermediate Fast: Once you're comfortable with shorter fasts, you can gradually extend the duration to 72 hours or even up to a week. Listen to your body and seek medical advice if needed. 2.3 Advanced Fast: Longer fasts, such as multiple weeks, should only be attempted by experienced individuals under medical supervision. Remember, the primary focus of water fasting is personal development and not solely weight loss. Always prioritize your health and well-being throughout the fasting journey. Section 3: Step-by-Step Instructions for Beginners Now, let's outline a step-by-step process for beginners to embark on their water fasting journey: Step 1: Preparing for Your Fast Consult with your healthcare professional: Discuss your intention to start water fasting and ensure it is safe for you, considering any pre-existing conditions or medications. Educate yourself: Read books, listen to podcasts, and gather information to have a good understanding of water fasting. Set clear intentions: Define your goals for fasting, whether it's for detoxification, mental clarity, or spiritual growth. Step 2: Gradually Adjust Your Diet Transition to a healthier diet: Prior to your fast, gradually reduce processed foods, sugar, and caffeine while increasing your intake of fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. This will ease the transition into fasting. Step 3: Start Your Fast Choose the fasting method: Decide on the type of fasting that suits you best. If you're a beginner, intermittent fasting or a 24-hour fast can be a good starting point. Begin the fast: Start your chosen fast by consuming only water. Stay hydrated throughout the process and listen to your body's needs. Step 4: Support Your Body during Fasting Rest and relaxation: Allow yourself ample time for rest and relaxation during the fast. Engage in activities that promote calmness, such as meditation, gentle walks, or light stretching. Hydration: Drink an adequate amount of water each day to stay hydrated. Herbal teas or electrolyte supplements can be beneficial, but avoid adding sweeteners or flavors. Monitor your body's response: Pay attention to any symptoms or discomfort. If you experience severe symptoms or are unsure about anything, consult your healthcare professional. Step 5: Breaking Your Fast Ease into refeeding: When breaking your fast, start with easily digestible foods like vegetable broth, juices, or smoothies. Gradually reintroduce solid foods over a few days to allow your body to readjust. Conclusion: Water fasting can be a transformative practice for personal development, offering physical, mental, and spiritual benefits. Remember to listen to your body, seek professional advice if needed, and approach fasting with patience and self-care. By incorporating water fasting into your personal growth journey, you can unlock new levels of self-awareness, discipline, and overall well-being. Best of luck on your fasting adventure!
Women's health and the menstrual cycle is pretty misunderstood. After the menstrual cycle basics episode went over so well with everyone, I wanted to continue creating more content about women's health, especially menstrual health. It breaks my heart that so many of us, self included, don't truly learn about our physiology and our body's natural cycles until our 20s or 30s, sometimes even later, or until we're dealing with some kind of reproductive health issue. When we can learn how to work with our bodies instead of constantly trying to drop kick them into submission, not only can we live healthier lives, but we can actually make more fitness progress. I've seen it time and time again both in myself and in clients: when female physiology is operating as female physiology is meant to, i.e. we have a healthy, reliable period, we perform better, build muscle and lose fat more easily, and overall experience a higher quality of life. Today I want to talk about one of the biggest “offenders” in the health and fitness space. Today, we're going to be talking about Energy Availability, amenorrhea, and how chronic dieting, aka chronically under-consuming Calories, negatively impacts the menstrual cycle. I have been in this industry since I was 16 years old and I cannot imagine anything more important that I could have dedicated my life's work to.In the mid 80s, I opened a health food store in the heart of the LGBT community in Toronto. Shortly after, the HIV crisis hit and my store, Supplements Plus, was in the heart of the epidemic. I learned a lot at that time – I was doing my best to help those affected and watched the community around me in crisis as friends were lost. It was an important time in history and it was an important time in my life, as it created the value system of what became Genuine Health. At Genuine Health, we are so fortunate that we have the opportunity to change people's lives every day, and we take that responsibility very seriously. What we do matters, what we put in the bottle matters, how we treat the planet matters, and providing you with the latest credible information matters, so that you can make the best choices for your health. We're passionate about looking at the latest research in nutritional science to drive innovation in our products. The most important thing to me is that the products that we create make a difference in your life, by giving your body the nourishment it needs to bring you more energy, vitality and overall health and wellbeing. When you have all these things, you can live your life to its fullest expression.

People who love wearables often complain that their biomarker data that gets collected in one app stays in that app, and the apps don't talk to each other. Kyriakos Eleftheriou, CEO and Co-Founder of Terra, shares with Ben Grynol how he's building Terra to standardize biomarker data and translate it into one language. By doing this, Terra could enable users to connect their data from wearables to non-health-tech companies like Spotify or Netflix, providing real-time recommendations that would help give a certain mood based on a person's physical state; for example, an uplifting movie suggestion during a stressful time.
