Today, I am blessed to have Dr. Thomas Seyfried here with me. Thomas N. Seyfried received his Ph.D. in Genetics and Biochemistry from the University of Illinois, Urbana, in 1976. He did his undergraduate work at the University of New England, where he recently received the distinguished Alumni Achievement Award. He also holds a Master's degree in Genetics from Illinois State University. Thomas Seyfried served with distinction in the United States Army's First Cavalry Division during the Vietnam War and received numerous medals and commendations. He was a Postdoctoral Fellow in the Department of Neurology at the Yale University School of Medicine and then served on the faculty as an Assistant Professor in Neurology. Dr. Seyfried argues that cancer is a metabolic disease, not a genetic one, and suggests that lifestyle factors play a role in its development. He highlights that if you wanted to get cancer, you would adopt a sedentary lifestyle, consume highly processed foods with long shelf lives, avoid fresh food, experience high levels of emotional stress, and deprive yourself of sleep. He notes that many people engage in these behaviors unknowingly, leading to increased rates of cancer, diabetes, obesity, and other chronic diseases. Seyfried's point is that to prevent cancer, individuals should focus on maintaining metabolic health through exercise, proper diet, stress management, and quality sleep. Dr. Seyfried highlights that the current medical understanding of cancer is rooted in the idea that it is a genetic disease, a concept taught in medical schools and upheld by oncologists. These professionals are trained to use traditional treatments like chemotherapy and radiation, focusing on managing toxicity rather than addressing the root cause. Seyfried argues that cancer is a metabolic disease driven by glucose and glutamine, but this crucial information is missing from training. He emphasizes the need for metabolic therapy, which targets the fuels cancer cells depend on while keeping healthy cells thriving, notably through ketosis. He expresses frustration at the medical community's resistance to acknowledging this approach despite mounting evidence that metabolic interventions could starve cancer cells and slow tumor growth. Tune in as Dr. Seyfried explains that while animals are hardwired to eat for survival, humans, with conscious awareness, can override this instinct, which can lead to disorders like anorexia. He highlights that modern diets, full of processed carbohydrates and fats, are far removed from what our ancestors ate, causing health issues like obesity, type 2 diabetes, and cancer. Additionally, he critiques the financial burden of cancer treatments, calling the system immoral, especially for the economically disadvantaged. From February 29 – May 18, 1944, a thousand troopers of the First Cavalry Division, a few United States Navy destroyers and a handful of “Fighting Seabees” defied the odds and seized the Admiralty Islands, making it possible for General MacArthur to keep his promise to return to the Philippines. The Admiralty Island Campaign was the boldest action of MacArthur's forces in World War II. Some contemporaries called it reckless, others brilliant. MacArthur Memorial historians Amanda Williams and Jim Zobel break down the operation and discuss MacArthur's decision to accelerate a planned invasion of the islands. Major John T. Pelham IV Well, thank you for having me. Host You take a step back in your article from Joint force capabilities and focus instead on analyzing recent US Army operational experience and security force assistance and security cooperation in US Indo-Pacific commands. What problem in the Indo-Pacific does your article address? Pelham I think it's a couple of problems ma'am. First of all, I think it's how do we compete with the pacing threat as outlined in the interim National Security Strategy and the recently published National Security Strategy in terms of how do we compete with China and other adversaries in Indo-Pacific Theater—preferably below the level of armed conflict? Moreover, how do we as an army contribute to the Joint force in a theater that is roundly dominated by the air and maritime domains? This project actually came about from a conversation with Brigadier General Lombardo of Army G 3 5 7 Training. When I was writing my SAMS monograph, I had written my Master of Military Arts and Science thesis on the role of the SFAB and future Army strategic deterrence. And from that conversation, he said, "You know what I would be interested to know is what is the Army's contribution to multi-domain competition, particularly in the Pacific theater?" And that stems also from a conversation I had with the Chief of Armor, in a Q&A session with him. I said, "You know, hey, sir, what do you feel is the armor branch's role in the Indo-Pacific given the physical constraints of that domain for land force, particularly heavy mechanized forces?" And he said something to the effect of, well, most of our allies and partners in the Indo-Pacific Theater, they have armies, and most of those armies have a competent mechanized component. That is where the armor branch can make its contribution because even if it's not our armor that is serving as a flexible deterrent or enabling competition in the theater below the level of armed conflict, we can leverage our expertise and our ability to work by, with,

Professor Thomas Seyfried has published over 150 peer reviewed studies in biology and cancer biology and has verified Nobel Prize Winner Otto Warburg's assertation that cancer is a metabolic disease of the mitochondria, not a genetic disorder. If we misunderstand the origin of the disease, the treatment is going to be wrong as well, and this is exactly what has happened. Ever think about why the cancer rates have tripled in the past 40 years? Well, this is why. Thomas N. Our goal with The Vietnam War: The Music is to honor the fallen and the survivors with the music that got them through “just one more day”. Our shows are broadcast around the world. They say thank you & “welcome home” to all Vietnam Vets. ***** As we close season three, the theme is centered around a military cadence call, “Jody's Got Your Cadillac”. Cadences are used by soldiers during marching or running maneuvers. They are sometimes called “jody calls” or “jodies”, after Jody, a recurring character who figures in many traditional cadences; Jody refers to the man with whom a serviceman's wife/girlfriend cheats while he is deployed. Jody stays back home, drives the soldier's car, and gets the soldier's sweetheart while the soldier is stationed elsewhere. ******  ***** In this episode you'll hear two songs, by soldiers who served there. ******** One is Saigon Warrior by Saul Broudy (lead) & Robin Thomas (back-up vocal) **** SAIGON WARRIOR is a military folksong about rear echelon personnel. It descended from a British Army World War I song entitled "The Lousy Lance-Corporal." It circulated widely in Southeast Asia in both Army and Air Force tradition. *****SAUL BROUDY served as a platoon leader, in the 96th Quartermaster Battalion, 1st Logistical Command, at Phan Rang, 1966-1967. *****The second song, GRUNT, was written & performed by in-country soldier Bill Ellis. This song is a detailed description of the "little things that mean a lot" in the daily life of the combat infantryman—mail from home, a drink of cool water, sharing what you have with your buddies. ***** BILL ELLIS was drafted out of a rock band in San Francisco in 1968. He became known as the "singing rifleman" of the First Cavalry Division. In March, 1969, he was pulled from field duty as a rifleman with A Company, 1st Battalion, Fifth Cavalry, and reassigned to Special Services. He toured the Cav area of operations, performing for grunts on the fire support bases. ***** Both are available on the CD “In Country: Folk Songs of Americans in the Vietnam War” (Rounder Records, https://store.rounder.com/) - - - - - - For a look at in-country soldier musicians, watch the video at: ***https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mLgkMqt_Bw-----Join the conversation on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008232395712    ------ or by email at dannymemorylane@gmail.com   ------ In this episode, you'll hear: -- 1)     Every Picture Tells a Story by Rod Stewart2)     Drive My Car by The Beatles3)     Welcome Home by Country Joe McDonald4)     Wanted (A Solid Gold Cadillac) by The Aquatones (w/ Lynne Nixon, vocals)5)     Who's Making Love by Johnnie Taylor6)     A Letter From Sherry by Dale Ward7)     Hoochie Coochie Man by The Allman Brothers Band8)     Wild One by BR5-499)     Saigon Warrior by Saul Broudy (lead) & Robin Thomas10) Bitch by The Rolling Stones11) Long Live Our Love by The Shangri-Las12) Kentucky Rain by Elvis Presley13) Have You Seen Her by The Chi-Lites14) When a Man Loves a Woman by Wolfman Jack15) You Can Have Her by The Righteous Brothers16) I Put A Spell On You by Creedence Clearwater Revival17) Please Mr. D.J. by Merle Haggard18) Stoned At The Jukebox by Hank Williams Jr.19) Requiem For The Masses by The Association20) The Devil Went Down To Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band21) Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da by The Beatles22) Grunt by Bill Ellis23) Come See About Me by Junior Walker & The All Stars24) L.A. My guest today, Nick Russell, has one of the most interesting life stories I have ever heard.  I think when you are done listening to this episode, you will agree. Nick comes from a cop family, his dad was a deputy sheriff, then became a Border Patrolman (his dad rode a horse to work every day), and when he retired from that he became a city cop in Ohio. He also had two uncles and an older brother who were LEOs.He joined the Army right after high school and served in Vietnam with the First Cavalry Division, got banged up a couple of times (three Purple Hearts), and when he was back stateside and was fit for duty, was a firearms instructor at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. After the Army, he was a reserve cop in Ohio until dad talked him out of it and told him he should pursue his dream of being a writer. He was also a criminal investigator with the Arizona Attorney General’s office for a total of six years where he investigated everything from police-related shootings to crooked city officials. Nick also ran small-town newspapers on the Pacific Northwest coast and in Arizona. In 1999 Nick and his wife Terry became full-time RVers, spending the next 18+ years wandering around the country in a motorhome publishing the Gypsy Journal RV travel newspaper. Nick Russell is a proud indie-author of 45 books, including the Big Lake mystery series, the John Lee Quarrels series, the two-book Dog’s Run series, and the Tinder Street family saga. He was very fortunate that his first novel, Big Lake, made the New York Times bestseller list. You will never guess how the story came to him, and how long it took him to hit the "publish button." In October of 2016, Nick and his wife Terry bought a house on the central Florida coast midway between Daytona Breach and Cape Canaveral. They can watch the rockets launch from their yard.Trust me, this is a story you will not want to miss hearing!Visit Nick's blog that he publishes every day!Check out Nick's Amazon Author Page!Enjoy the Cops and Writers book series. Please visit the Cops and Writers website. If you have a question for the sarge, hit him up at his email.Come join the fun at the Cops and Writers Facebook groupSupport the show (https://patreon.com/copsandwriters)

They say thank you & “welcome home” to all Vietnam Vets. ***** As we close season three, the theme is centered around a military cadence call, “Jody's Got Your Cadillac”. Cadences are used by soldiers during marching or running manuvers. ****** Ain’t no use in lookin’ down, Ain’t no discharge on the ground, Ain’t no use in going back, Jody’s got your Cadillac. ** Ain’t no use in calling home, Jody’s got your girl and gone, Ain’t no use in feeling blue, Jody’s got your sister too. ** Ain’t no use in going back, Jody’s got your Cadillac. ***** In this episode you’ll hear two songs, by soldiers who served there. ***** SAUL BROUDY served as a platoon leader, in the 96th Quartermaster Battalion, 1st Logistical Command, at Phan Rang, 1966-1967. ***** The second song, GRUNT, was written & performed by in-country soldier Bill Ellis. ***** Both are available on the CD “In Country: Folk Songs of Americans in the Vietnam War” (Rounder Records, https://store.rounder.com/) - - - - - - For a look at in-country soldier musicians, watch the video at: *** https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mLgkMqt_Bw ----- Join the conversation on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100008232395712 ------ or by email at dannymemorylane@gmail.com ------ In this episode, you’ll hear: -- 1) Every Picture Tells a Story by Rod Stewart 2) Drive My Car by The Beatles 3) Welcome Home by Country Joe McDonald 4) Wanted (A Solid Gold Cadillac) by The Aquatones (w/ Lynne Nixon, vocals) 5) Who's Making Love by Johnnie Taylor 6) A Letter From Sherry by Dale Ward 7) Hoochie Coochie Man by The Allman Brothers Band 8) Wild One by BR5-49 9) Saigon Warrior by Saul Broudy (lead) & Robin Thomas 10) Bitch by The Rolling Stones 11) Long Live Our Love by The Shangri-Las 12) Kentucky Rain by Elvis Presley 13) Have You Seen Her by The Chi-Lites 14) When a Man Loves a Woman by Wolfman Jack 15) You Can Have Her by The Righteous Brothers 16) I Put A Spell On You by Creedence Clearwater Revival 17) Please Mr. D.J. by Merle Haggard 18) Stoned At The Jukebox by Hank Williams Jr. 19) Requiem For The Masses by The Association 20) The Devil Went Down To Georgia by The Charlie Daniels Band 21) Ob-La-Di, Ob-La-Da by The Beatles 22) Grunt by Bill Ellis 23) Come See About Me by Junior Walker & The All Stars 24) L.A. Sergeant Major Reginald Wayne Butler, U.S. Army, a native of Oklahoma, graduated from McAlester High School in 1992. He received a B.S. in business from Mount Saint Mary College in Newburg, New York in 2007; an M.B.A. in information technology management from Trident University International in Cypress, California, in 2010; and is currently pursuing a D.B.A. in leadership from Walden University, Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was raised in poverty by a single mother of five children, who had a loving heart and faced many obstacles but never complained. She blessed Butler with a warm heart, good manners, and inspired him to follow his passion and intuition. As a child, Butler had behavioral problems, a speech impediment and was fitted with leg braces. Numerous Pediatric Doctors informed his mother that he would never be able to run or overcome the fear and tension in stuttering. Kids called him names such as Frankenstein and Stutterbox until the age of 9 when he decided to overcome his challenges. Butler removed the leg braces, tossed them in a dumpster, and took off running, very much similar to Forrest Gump. By the 4th grade, Butler was the fastest kid in elementary school and later went on to win Regionals in track and field. Butler attended speech therapy throughout middle school, and he now enjoys inspiring people to overcome their obstacles and fears. In 1991, toward the end of his junior year of high school, Butler joined the Oklahoma Army National Guard as an Infantrymen. He was the only African American in a 240-man company and had to overcome adversities related to racial discrimination but maintained a positive state of mind. Butler continued to break down obstacles within the organization and sought out the presence of younger soldiers who trusted him, believed in equal opportunity, and practiced dignity and respect. Butler found the resiliency to overcome the boundaries set before him and knew after graduating from High School the military life was going to be his destiny. During his 25-year military career, Butler achieved the highest enlisted rank of Sergeant Major. He completed the rigorous U.S. Army Ranger School in 1998, which is the Army’s most rigorous course related to premier small unit tactics and leadership. In 2001, Butler accomplished the Bradley Master Gunner course, to become a trained expert on the weapon systems housed within military fighting vehicles. He values the attribute of leading from the front and ultimately gained the respect of his subordinates. Butler deployed to the Middle East, the Pacific, Europe and Continental U.S. stations. During Operation Iraqi Freedom, Butler was a platoon sergeant of the Army’s First Cavalry Division from Fort Hood, Texas, when a platoon-size element was ambushed in Sadr City, Baghdad, on April 4, 2004, also known as “Black Sunday.” Eight soldiers were killed and more than 70 injured during the attack. Butler’s Humvee gunner paid the ultimate sacrifice, and 17 out of 37 soldiers in his platoon were severely wounded. Butler had the hardest hit platoon with 20 soldiers remaining in the fight. His unit remained in sustained combat for 80 consecutive days. Butler is portrayed in the National Geographic Channel’s “The Long Road Home,” an eight-part miniseries based on journalist Martha Raddatz’s 2007 book of the same title. He was mentioned on several occasions including one during which the Secretary of Defense recognized Butler in a lecture to more than 5,000 cadets and faculty members at the U.S. Military Academy in 2008 as a hero with real-world experience and wisdom in and out of the classroom. He has a passion for helping military members and people around the world to find their inner abilities to overcome daily challenges and to live a healthy, memorable and appealing lifestyle. Butler seeks to inspire, motivate and challenge audiences to lead an authentic and inspired life.

Although many books on Gettysburg have addressed the role played by Brig. Gen. John Buford and his First Cavalry Division troops, there is not a single book-length study devoted entirely to the critical delaying actions waged by Buford and his dismounted troopers and his horse artillerists on the morning of July 1, 1863. Award-winning Civil War historian Eric J. Wittenberg rectifies this glaring oversight with "The Devil's to Pay": John Buford at Gettysburg. A History and Walking Tour. This comprehensive tactical study examines the role Buford and his horse soldiers played from June 29 through July 2, 1863, including the important actions that saved the shattered remnants of the First and Eleventh Corps. Wittenberg relies upon scores of rare primary sources, including many that have never before been used, to paint a detailed picture of the critical role the quiet and modest cavalryman known to his men as "Honest John" or "Old Steadfast" played at Gettysburg. Eric J Wittenberg is an accomplished American Civil War cavalry historian and author. An attorney in Ohio, Wittenberg has authored over a dozen books on Civil War cavalry subjects, as well as two dozen articles in popular magazines such as North & South, Blue & Gray, America's Civil War, and Gettysburg Magazine. His first book,Gettysburg's Forgotten Cavalry Actions (Thomas Publications, Gettysburg PA, 1998) won the prestigious 1998 Bachelder-Coddington Literary Award.
