Wildfires are becoming increasingly common in a world struggling with climate change - and they sadly also make the situation even worse. Kseniya Lenarciak is CEO at Sly, a startup based in Italy and San Francisco, with a mission to detect and mitigate wildfires using sensors, AI and a software platform. Through their solution, land owners and systems providers can be notified in the exact right moment, before a fire potentially becomes unmanageable. // Podcast host: Christian von Essen // Recorded at The Tech Arena 2024 in Stockholm. // Learn more at hejaframtiden.se

I've been looking forward to dropping this episode with one of my dearest friends because it is JAM PACKED with so much gold - from the inception of the well-known & beloved community healing center in Scottsdale, Arizona 'Abundant Space' to the birth of her adorable baby boy, Kseniya holds NOTHING back as we dive into the juicy details of motherhood, entrepreneurship, her PRIMAL birthing story, personal healing, sobriety & so much more. Let's just say this was a very ABUNDANT episode - we covered ALOT I'll be honest and say Kseniya is one of the most kind, generous and HILARIOUS people that I know. She has brought so much love, joy, healing & laughter to every single person in our community and I seriously cannot imagine life without her. She's facilitated breathwork ceremonies at multiple retreats I've hosted and has been such a huge support as a friend, sister & fellow business owner. Abundant Space - has been home to countless Warrior Women gatherings and cacao circles over the years and its been beyond special. And then there's Prince Theo, who we all love so so much. Just like his mama, this handsome baby boy has brought so much beauty, love, and laughter into our lives and I appreciate how much he teaches us all. Hearing the story of how Theo came into this world was so sweet. I am forever fascinated by miraculous experience that is birth. Growing up in Byaroza, Belarus, sports were a big part of Kseniya Poznyak's childhood. Starting with basketball, she later found her calling in volleyball due to limited opportunities in her small town. Despite initial doubts, she embraced the sport and excelled, leading her to Azerbaijan and opening doors to a world of exploration. Competing across Europe and the Philippines, Kseniya's love for volleyball eventually took her to Canada, where she found a new purpose in mental health advocacy for athletes. After retiring, she is courageously grappling with the mental and physical adjustments of returning to a "normal life". In our inspiring chat, she also opened up about the emotional journey of supporting her child through untapped potential and finding solace in their unique path.

Silence was born at £1.7, pigeon-toed and with a lazy right eye and hole in his heart. For the last six years, Silence has survived on the streets of Salt Lake City. I had the privilege of meeting him through one of my previous conversations Kseniya. I asked her if she would do the honor of introducing silence. Kseniya [00:02:00] It's an honor to introduce Silent is one of the first friends, the Nomad Alliance, met on the street on Christmas Eve 2020. It wasn't until third grade when he skipped to fifth grade that people really realized that he was an autistic savant. He hasn't 187 IQ, and yet he has spent the last six years unhoused and broken. And we are so proud to say that Silence has been sober now for nine months. He is employed in construction and he finally believes in himself as much as we always have. When I met him, his hair was to the shoulder. He was peeking out from a pile of blankets. The homeless man sleeping on that sidewalk just down the street. Brian [00:02:42] Before jumping into my talk with silence, I need to give you a little more information. First, today's episodes contains all the trigger warnings. If you've had experience with domestic abuse, sexual assault, drugs and suicidal ideation, please proceed with caution. Second, this is an important enough conversation that I believe everyone needs to hear the entire story. In silence, his own words. Third, there is a lot of information about Silence that didn't make it into this episode. Cassini recorded a follow up interview with Silence in her car that shares his thoughts about our conversation that I would love everyone to hear. She has posted it on her organization's website at NomadAlliance.org. There is a separate, shorter conversation that I recorded with Silence and Kseniya, where he shares additional information about his namesake and how he tracked God's love for him through a series of peanut butter sandwiches. It's another story that you want to hear. I will post that interview separately on Facebook. On Our Strangers, you know, podcast community page. Next Silence posed for a Nomad Alliance calendar. Last year, he was Mr. July to see that picture, as well as current photos. Members can visit his episode page on strangers, you know, podcast scam or you can buy the calendar for a minimal donation on Nomad Alliance dot org. How tightly do we grip our core beliefs and values, and why do we provide any room for intellectual curiosity? How often do we seek to understand individuals and viewpoints that are radically different from our own? How did we come to our version of certain knowledge, and what does it really cost us to consider different perspectives and opinions? These questions make up the backbone of this podcast, and I hope today's conversation pushes us all out of our comfort zone and foregone conclusions. Kacee was born in a country that no longer exists. She came to the United States at eight years old when her mother became a mail-order bride. She has a unique perspective on mental health as she has been arrested and held in prison and mental institutions in multiple countries. Kacee also runs a nonprofit called Nomad Alliance that works closely with the homeless population. A talented writer, she talks about the book she is writing, discusses declining empires, and leads us in a brief meditation. Also, beginning with this episode, Kacee and I both invite you to join our conversation by posting questions and comments on the new Facebook community page of Strangers You Know. Support the show

On this Episode of Rehash: a web3 podcast, we sat down with Kseniya and Nich, contributors at Meta Gamma Delta DAO. MDG started as a parody of sororities and has evolved into a grants DAO for women-led projects in web3. We kick off the episode getting to know Kseniya and Nich, and their journeys into web3. We discuss how MGD started and how it has evolved. We talk about the choice to use the Moloch DAO structure, pros and cons of using DAOhaus on mainnet, and they leave us with some advice on choosing an L2 or sidechain for your own DAO. Next, we get into the community side of things, discussing how MGD fosters its community (a community of mostly women) and how other DAOs can adopt some of their best practices. Lastly, since MGD is now primarily a grants DAO for women-led projects in web3, Kseniya and Nich share the process for how MDG distributes grants, how MDG gets its own funding, and shout out some past projects that MGD has funded. Kseniya and Nich were nominated by Zayi (@ZayiRey) and some of the questions asked in this episode were submitted by DAO members Zayi and Carsten (@carstenpoetter).To continue this conversation and stay up to date on all things Rehash, you can follow Diana on Twitter @ddwchen and Rehash @rehashweb3. Topics Discussed and Key Points:● Using the power of design for social impact● Why Kseniya reframed the Belt & Road Initiative as a “sociospatial set of challenges” in her thesis● How Ballistic Architecture Machine factors into the New Silk Road● China's strengths and weaknesses in architecture and urban design Episode Summary:Today on The Negotiation, we speak with Kseniya Otmakhova, a Schwarzman Scholar and Director of Public Relations at Ballistic Architecture Machine. Her role as a PR manager comes with a focus on furthering research on the New Silk Road with the goal of developing it into one of several of BAM's unique “Urban Initiative” projects.“I have a strong desire to use design for social impact,” says Kseniya, describing what initially motivated her to study urban planning at the Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands. She also helps us understand that proposing concepts is not enough; the key is in convincing stakeholders by understanding the outcomes they desire.Kseniya was thus drawn to the Schwarzman scholarship, not only for the professional opportunities the program would bring but also for the access she would get to sharp minds around the world (including over 100 fellow scholars) to be able to have conversations on global issues with people from a variety of backgrounds.Listen in as Kseniya explains her thought process behind reframing the Belt & Road Initiative as a “sociospatial set of challenges” in her thesis and the three themes that anchor her research. She then describes the mission-vision of BAM, the multidisciplinary design studio based in Beijing and Shanghai, and how the studio's focus on urban landscape design guides its research on the development of the New Silk Road. Finally, Kseniya discusses the incredible speed and agility of development China is known for, particularly in the world of architecture and city planning, and why this can be both a strength and a weakness for the country's urban development. Key Quotes:“The Schwarzman program is a one-year Master's program in Global Affairs at Tsinghua University in Beijing. It's a very young program—six years old. It's a scholarship that was created specifically to respond to the geopolitical landscape of our current times. That means China's growing interactions with businesses around the world and also the realization of the founder, Stephen A. Schwarzman, that there is not enough understanding of this region in the West.” “The Belt & Road Initiative is at the scale of an entire continent. My question was: ‘What does it mean to build infrastructure for win-win collaboration—a structure that will create new people-to-people bonds?'” “I truly believe that the success of the Belt & Road Initiative depends on the built environments and the on-the-ground conditions that are created through ‘Happy Cities'.” “Just building a new highway that will bring your country money is not enough to create people-to-people bonds; to foster collaboration; and to create new, vibrant environments.” “One of the main aspects that brings a lot of professionals—from the best architects, urban planners, and the like—to China is the speed of developments. Things get built very quickly and, as such, an architect working in China for five years might see one or two projects completed; whereas back in Europe, they might as well spend ten years behind the drawing board.”

Kseniya's background is in business and finance, and after about 7 years in accountancy and finance, she found her passion for technology. She attended an introduction to web development night-school and fell in love with building things. Conversation with an independent investigative journalist from Russia currently living in America, Kseniya Kirillova, about how Russia, which right now does not have an official ideology or a set of common beliefs that appeals to its own populace outside of Fear & Money, is instead creating ideology specifically to appeal to the fringe elements in the West, regardless of whether it has any connection to Russian reality. The conversation also addressed how Russia engages in informational warfare against the West and the United States.
Ask most pilots, and they will tell you that learning to fly was one of the most rewarding and challenging things they have done in life. And while similarities exist, each pilot's journey is unique. Something that can be depended on are the many challenges that will be faced throughout the training process. This week's episode of SimpleFlight Radio has Marc and Al talking with Kseniya Polinsky, a friend of the show, who recently earned her Private Pilot certificate. Like all of us, Kseniya, had to answer the questions of how to go about getting started, finding a school, a CFI, and establishing a timeline that made sense for her, while life around her continued to change. Kseniya's story serves as a reminder that the path is not always straight, but it is within the student's ultimate control. The crew enjoyed hearing about her strategies for understanding and navigating both the human and technical factors that come into play during the process. Of course, establishing, and when necessary, reestablishing momentum is a topic we can all identify with. We hope you you enjoy the conversation as much as we did. As always, we love hearing from you and ask you share your ideas with the entire SimpleFlight Facebook and Instagram community @simpleflightradio Thanks for being a part of the SimpleFlight Family!!!

With half of the Newspaper/Detention Club AWOL, the rest deals with their neuroses as old friends drop by and new friends regard them strangely. Amidst dealing with their scientist teacher's latest freakout (typical with a usually-shackled killbot AI from the future), Kseniya tries to split the difference between Kasey and Regicide, Kevin finds that fame doesn't translate to teaching skills, Malcolm gets a taste of what it's like to be a superhero and Michael continues his fall. DJ KSENIYA KESS weekly radioshow
Our guest Lisa Hanawalt has her fingers in many pies. She is a published artist/author, hilarious film critic for The Hairpin, co-host of the Baby Geniuses podcast, and co-producer & production designer of the Netflix show BoJack Horseman. Her sneakily feminist views have been been available in a variety of mediums but we were especially excited to speak with her about Hook, the 1991 Peter Pan reimagining starring Robin Williams. Is it a kids movie or an erotic masterpiece filled with genderfluid characters that inspire the imagination? You may be surprised. The episode also includes Lisa's theories on gender bias in animation, why she loves working on BoJack, and a quick overview of Great Horses of Cinema.--Additional viewing:BuzzFeed's list of 136 Hidden Jokes You Probably Missed On "Bojack Horseman"Season 2 of BoJack Horseman premieres July 17!A still from Julie Doucet comic "Heavy Flow" (originally published in Weirdo #26), referenced by Kseniya.
Guy Maddin ("National treasure of Canadian cinema") may be less familiar to casual cinema lovers in the States, but once you see his work, you won't be able to forget his bizarre characters or dreamy imagery. In our second mom-cast, we invite Kseniya's mother, Tatiana Watson, to discuss portrayal of parenthood in Maddin's Careful (1992) and Brand upon the Brain! (2006) and how film has bonded the mother and daughter over the years.Outro Music: "The Nightingale and the Rose" by Rosa Ponselle, as featured in Guy Maddin's short film, A Trip To The Orphanage (2004)Previously released episode with Eleanor's mom, Dr. Paula Kagan, discussing Rosemary’s BabyReferenced in the episode: Slums of Beverly Hills 15-Year Reunion
Kseniya Melnik was born in Magadan, Russia and she moved to Alaska in 1998, at the age of 15. She received her MFA from NYU. Snow in May was short-listed for the International Dylan Thomas Prize and long-listed for the Frank O'Connor International Short Story Award. Kseniya Melnik's book, Snow in May, is comprised of a surprising mix of newly minted professionals, ex-prisoners, intellectuals, musicians, and faithful Party workers, the community is vibrant and resilient and life in Magadan thrives even under the cover of near-perpetual snow.
Eleanor and Kseniya chat about what inspired them to put together a witches-focused variety show and which (ha) aspects of the theme they find most intriguing.Kseniya opens the evening by taking a second look at her favorite witch from childhood reruns, Samantha from Bewitched, and considers how Elizabeth Montgomery's portrayal might have been more progressive than the sitcom setting would suggest.Plus, chamber pop singer AK performs a gorgeous cover of "Bewitched, Bothered, and Bewildered." Follow AK at ak-ak-ak.com, and @thebandak. --"All of Them Witches," recorded on 10/13/2014 at the Bell House in Brooklyn, NY, was a one-night-only variety show hosted by Bonnie & Maude's Kseniya Yarosh and Eleanor Kagan, that explored portrayals of witches and witchcraft in pop culture, film and television.
The Drunken Odyssey with John King: A Podcast About the Writing Life
On this week's show, I talk to the fiction writer Kseniya Melnik, Plus Matt Berman writes about Jean Craighead George's My Side of the Mountain. TEXTS DISCUSSED
Hated by most critics upon its 1999 release, The Woman Chaser is a lost gem, available only on VHS or bootleg. Patrick Warburton (Seinfeld, The Tick) is a car salesman craving artistic release as an independent filmmaker in this neo-noir that walks the line between comedy and tragedy. The film hits every mark on the misogynist checklist in its path to illustrate masculine discontent. Despite its many wrong turns, Kseniya and Eleanor were mostly charmed by the unusual tale of a cinema-loving lug and were intrigued by our guest Caroline Golum's surprising personal connection to the film. Viewing it as a child on late night television, free of feminist judgment, this tale of a man chasing a cinematic dream provided an erotic charge for young Caroline and artistic inspiration for her future filmmaking and film programming.---Live Show Alert! We discuss Drop Dead Gorgeous (1999), a darkly hilarious mockumentary about a small town beauty pageant that turns violent. Kirsten Dunst once again flexes her comedic muscles, alongside Ellen Barkin and Allison Janney as "the white trash Laverne and Shirley." Amy Adams tries out the sexpot character long before the success of American Hustle or the awkwardness of Cruel Intentions 2. A terrific female cast all around and an unusual script by Lona Williams, who we hope to see more from in the future.Joined by guest Rommel Wood, potentially the movie's #1 fan (she has pretty much the entire film memorized!), Eleanor and Kseniya explore the upsides of black humor, the downsides of pageant and small town life, and the rare instances of when violence against women is actually funny...to women.Closing music: "Drop Dead Gorgeous" by New Mystery Girl
The final frontier: women surviving space by way of fearlessness, wit, sex, and a prominent stripping scene. In one of our laugh-iest episodes ever, Eleanor and Kseniya discuss Gravity (2013), Alien (1979), and Barbarella (1968) with I Love Bad Movies co-editor Matt Carman. We debate whether Ripley is a cat lady, the concept of the "final girl," and Sandra Bullock's frequent vehicle troubles.End credits music: Leonard Nimoy, "Music To Watch Space Girls By"
An epic tale of the horrors of motherhood. And who better to discuss this with if not one of our very own mothers? Eleanor, Kseniya, and Eleanor's mom, Dr. Paula Kagan, delve into the surprisingly funny and spooky aspects of Polanski's classic film and our own early scares.Dr. Paula Kagan is an author, radical nurse, Associate Professor of nursing, as well as an affiliated faculty member of Women & Gender Studies at DePaul University in Chicago.
Spoiler Alert. Recorded the morning of the penultimate episode of Breaking Bad, Kseniya and Eleanor take a look at television's most riveting anti-heros--Breaking Bad's Walter White, Mad Men's Don Draper, and Sopranos' Tony Soprano--through the wives who must deal with them. Skyler White, Betty Draper, and Carmela Soprano, often the recipients of Internet ire, are in need of exploration and your hosts, with the help of Pop Culture Happy Hour's Mike Katzif, are here to do so. (For spoilage purposes, Orange Is The New Black, Orphan Black, Nurse Jackie and Enlightened are also briefly discussed.)Music: "Nasty Gal" by Betty DavisRelated reading:Anna Gunn's Op-Ed in the New York Times, I Have a Character Issue - August 23, 2013That Mind-Bending Phone Call on Last Night’s “Breaking Bad” by Emily Nussbaum - September 16, 2013Anna Gunn And 'Breaking Bad's' Skyler White: Just The Tip Of A Very Big Iceberg by Maureen Ryan - August 25, 2013
Kseniya and Eleanor return after a long summer of either getting married or avoiding a sunburn, respectively, so it's high time to catch up on the movies and TV, new and old, that were consumed. In addition to a chat about Orange Is The New Black, Kseniya brings A League of Their Own, Marie Antoinette, Magic Mike and Dogfight to the table, while Eleanor talks In A World, Bringing Up Baby, and All That Jazz.
What good is sitting all quiet in your room? / Come hear the podcast play. / Life is a Cabaret, old chum, / Download our episode 10! This week we're joined by Chicago artist, performer, projectionist, film archivist and movie lover, Lyra Hill. From her earliest memories of watching a broken Costco DVD of Cabaret, Lyra has been fascinated with the Bob Fosse--directed and choreographed musical. Eleanor and Kseniya had never seen it until now, but through a discussion of the grungy aesthetic, the love triangles and the sinister historical context that hangs over this twisted romance, they come to appreciate it as well. Outro Music: "Cabaret" as sung by Liza Minnelli on Cabaret & All That Jazz: the Liza Minnelli Anthology -- Find out more about Lyra Hill and her many projects at LyraHill.com and BrainFrame.Tumblr.com
Last June we started the Bonnie & Maude podcast with a discussion of Lena Dunham's feature film Tiny Furniture and the opening three episodes of her then-brand-new show Girls. In this episode we continue our conversation with an overview of Season 2 of Girls, sharing how our opinions have changed, evolved, or stayed the same. Listen in as Kseniya shares her Lena Dunham nightmare, Eleanor reveals this season's Rorschach plotting, and we both contemplate why this show is worth your time. Outro Music: "Girls" by the Beastie Boys Bonus: Check out Part 2 of this episode, as we continue the Girls debate with writer Chris J. Kelly.
We talk Mermaids (1990, Richard Benjamin), which combines the magnetic talents of Cher, Winona Ryder and Christina Ricci as a family unit as they move to a sleepy New England town in 1963. In many ways, this is the ultimate coming-of-age film, as young Charlotte (Ryder) deals with her eccentric mother (Cher), her major crush on the cute boy up the road, and her intense Catholic guilt. We both relate to her, in some ways more than others, and this movie's collection of quiet, hilarious moments is what keeps us watching it again and again. Kseniya recommended the book Swimming Studies by Leanne Shapton. Eleanor recommended an essay about the state of the modern romantic comedy, by Linda Holmes on NPR. Join us for a screening of Mermaids at 92Y Tribeca in NYC on Thursday, March 14th. Tickets and info here!
