Send us a textRemember the Arnold Schwarzenegger film "The Running Man" from 1987? Remember how cool it was? We sure do. A reality TV series where the contestants have to run through an earthquake-ravaged Los Angeles while being stalked by actual killers with names like "Buzz Saw", "Sub Zero" & "Fireball" who were actually trying to kill you, it's no wonder this was a childhood favorite. Can this Sci-Fi, big-budgeted Arnold action from the '80s still be good? We're hoping for big ratings from the Ultra-Violent reality game show.Do You Remember Liking This Movie?
Send us a textRemember "Predator" starring 80s Action Hero Arnold Schwarzenegger? This was a childhood favorite that was rented on the regular from the local video store when hanging out with friends. From what we remember, this was the definition of 80s Sci-Fi Action. Every character was ripped and badass. Guns never ran out of ammo. Laws of physics took a back seat to "Looking Cool" and even the explosions were over exaggerated for entertainment purposes. We don't know if this movie will be as good as we remember but we can't wait to find out. Do You Remember Liking This Movie?

After last week's thorough breakdown of Happy Gilmore, it's time to run it back with the 2025 update, as Ryan Castle dissects the brand new Adam Sandler comedy that's got the whole world buzzing - Happy Gilmore 2! Did it live up to the hype after 30 years in the making? We break it down with 3 simple categories: What worked? What didn't work? And what the F*ck was that? Was there a different way it could've been produced? Who made the best cameo? What was the funniest scene? It's a full dissection of Netflix's brand new feature film, and it's coming up NEXT!
Send us a textWelcome back to DMRThis week, we break down Happy Gilmore 2 exclusive to Netflix—a sequel decades in the making that's equal parts nostalgic tribute and overstuffed spectacle. While it brings back familiar faces and some laugh-out-loud moments, the film often feels more focused on cameos than character. Longtime fans may enjoy the nods to the original, but newcomers might be left wondering what all the fuss is about. We explore whether the movie captures the heart and chaos of the 1996 classic, or if it plays too safe with recycled gags and modern distractions. Does it earn its place in the Sandler legacy—or just ride the wave of nostalgia? Tune in for our mostly spoiler-free take on the hits, the misses, and where this sequel lands in the comedy hall of fame.Enjoy - DMRSupport the showThe audio clips used in this podcast, including excerpts from movie/series/documentary trailers, are used under the principles of fair use and fair dealing for the purpose of criticism, commentary, and review. Lock, load, and prepare for a ballistic ride. This week, the Born to Watch crew take on the movie that brought Keanu Reeves roaring back into the action spotlight and set a new standard for gun-fu carnage with their John Wick (2014) Review.Whitey, G Man, Damo, and returning guest Bones gather in the "Red Circle Russian Baths" to break down this lean, mean revenge machine. The premise is simple: they killed his puppy, they stole his car, and now John Wick is going to kill absolutely everyone. What follows is 101 minutes of exquisitely choreographed violence, ruthless headshots, and underworld world-building that's as fascinating as it is stylish. The boys kick things off with an "overs and unders" rewatch count, Bones leading the charge with a double-digit tally, Damo admitting he was late to the Wick party, and G Man revealing this was only his second full viewing. Whitey takes us back to his last days running a video shop in 2014, when he first discovered the movie on DVD and immediately knew it was something special. From there, it's a high-calibre conversation covering the sequels (John Wick 2 gets big love, John Wick 3 cops a length warning, and John Wick 4 is called out for testing bladders at nearly three hours). They crunch the numbers on the original film's body count, 84 kills for Wick alone, and swap favourite takedowns, from the Red Circle massacre to the infamous knife-to-the-chest finisher. But John Wick isn't just about spraying bullets. The team dive into what makes it different: the cool, calculated underworld mythology of The Continental, the gold coin economy, and the assassin's code that adds sophistication to the chaos. They agree that the "no business on Continental grounds" rule is a masterstroke, and that Ian McShane's Winston brings the perfect mix of charm and menace.Keanu Reeves' career gets its own spotlight, with nods to Point Break, Speed, The Matrix, and even the roles he almost played (Platoon, Starship Troopers). Supporting cast members also get their flowers: Michael Nyqvist's quietly menacing Viggo, Alfie Allen's punchable rich-kid villainy, Willem Dafoe's sniper guardian angel, and a surprise cameo from wrestling giant Kevin Nash.In true Born to Watch fashion, the chat spirals into side quests: hot takes on Taken's influence on modern revenge films, debates over whether Russians are cinema's ultimate gangsters, and an oddly passionate discussion on Japanese onsens and Russian bathhouses (including the etiquette of washing before soaking with strangers). They also unpack critical reception, David Stratton's dismissive "all gun battles" take versus The New York Times' praise for its style, wit, and box office performance, noting how word of mouth turned a modest $86 million return into the launchpad for a billion-dollar franchise.Signature segments return in force:Hit, Sleeper, Dud, Swinger – with Interstellar and Edge of Tomorrow as hits, Frank as the sleeper, Dumb and Dumber To as the dud, and Pompeii roasted as a "swinger" that belongs in cinematic ash.Snobs Report Special – veering gloriously off-topic to Alexandra Daddario's career-making scene in True Detective.Question Time – covering everything from the realism of Wick's "magic pills" to whether Iosef's death was anticlimactic, and what exactly makes a headshot so satisfying.Through it all, the crew's affection for John Wick is undeniable. They celebrate its stripped-back storytelling, grounded stunt work, and unrelenting pace, while acknowledging its few stumbles. It's the perfect mix of 80s-style simplicity and modern fight choreography, proof that a revenge story, told well, never goes out of style. If you're a fan of tight, furious action films with a killer lead, a colourful rogues' gallery, and a fictional criminal underworld you want to explore (but not live in), this is the Born to Watch episode for you.JOIN THE CONVERSATIONIs John Wick the best modern action franchise or just a stylish headshot marathon?Which kill in the Red Circle nightclub is your all-time favourite? Is killing the puppy the single most effective way to make an audience cheer for revenge?Drop us a voicemail at https://www.borntowatch.com.au and be part of the show!Listen to the full episode now on Spotify, Apple Podcasts, or wherever you get your pods.#JohnWick #KeanuReeves #MoviePodcast #ActionMovies #BornToWatch #GunFu #RevengeMovies #CultAction #FilmReview #PopCulture #borntowatchpodcast

Eyes Wide Shut is on trial this week. Does it rise to the occasion or is it a complete flop? Alex argues that Stanley Kubrick's last film is a gripping exploration of sexual desire and fantasy, with strong lead performances and an unnerving plot making this a hit. Gav and Mike say there is very little here to sustain a long runtime, with meandering scenes and themes that go nowhere. All this with an impression of a busy Tom Cruise and a quiz all about the legendary Stanley Kubrick. www.filmsontrial.co.uk/273 Special Guest: Mike.

A wide range of reviews, plus we're delighted to be back with movie news, on this week's Breakfast All Day podcast. We begin with a movie that we know so many of you are excited about: "Weapons," writer-director Zach Cregger's follow-up to "Barbarian" from 2022. This is a spoiler-free review, because one of the best parts of "Weapons" is not knowing anything about "Weapons." Just trust us when we tell you it's nuts, and you should see it. We'll have a LIVE spoiler chat at our YouTube channel at Noon Pacific time on Tuesday, Aug. 12, so come back then and we'll get into it. In theaters. Next up is a movie the whole family can see and enjoy: "Freakier Friday," which comes 22 years after "Freaky Friday," which was itself a remake of the 1976 Disney favorite. Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis are back for more body-swap shenanigans. We laughed a lot more than we expected. The pacing is lively and the cast is game. In theaters. Then we catch up with the documentary "Billy Joel: And So It Goes," which we missed when it came out because we were both traveling. This is a two-part, five-hour exploration of this enduring musical artist, and it will make you appreciate Joel's songs on a deeper level. So many hits, and the stories behind them are fascinating. Streaming on HBO Max. Finally, it's our first Movie News LIVE! in a long time. Lots to talk about, including "The Wizard of Oz" at Sphere in Las Vegas, "Hamilton" playing in theaters, Dean Cain trying to be an ICE agent and more. We promise to be more consistent with these now that we're both back in town. Thanks to everyone who joined us! * Subscribe to Christy's Saturday Matinee newsletter: https://christylemire.beehiiv.com/

Amy talks, slurps martinis, and just wants to go home. Oh, she's also a gorilla. Behold a movie from the team behind Jurassic Park (well, except for that Steven guy) that begs us to consider who would win: a hundred gorillas or Laura Linney with a laser gun? Don't let Amy drink alone as we discuss outrageous accents, questionable plot devices, and the very niche subgenre of ape movies - the racially repugnant ones of the 1930s/40s and the curiously kooky ones from the 90s. Send us a textRemember The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad? We thought it was hilarious when we were kids. However, we also watched Pee-wee's Playhouse regularly and got excited when Knight Rider came on. So what did we know? We have some predictions. One, it might be a tad offensive, and two, it might be a little 80s-centric, which is okay with us. So join us as we go back to 1988 and watch Leslie Neilson and O.J. Simpson in The Naked Gun.Do You Remember Liking This Movie?
We. Are. Back! After a quick hiatus (358 days to be exact) only a story as grand as War of the Worlds could get us back to discuss bad movies. But was WOTW ('25) starring Ice Cube as bad as they say or are we just getting bad data? Listen to find out! Music courtesy of Manic Honey. Check them out on Spotify!

Send us a textWelcome back to DMRWrestling icon Hulk Hogan, born Terry Bollea in 1953, skyrocketed to global fame in the 1980s as the face of WWF's golden era. From his legendary showdown with André the Giant at WrestleMania III to starring in Rocky III and headlining Hogan Knows Best, Hogan blended sports entertainment with pop culture like no one else. His larger-than-life persona, catchphrases like “Whatcha gonna do, brother?” and his role in launching the nWo in WCW cemented him as a true disruptor in the wrestling industry. Hogan also broke the mold as a crossover celebrity, starring in films like No Holds Barred and Suburban Commando, all while battling in-ring legends like Macho Man, Ultimate Warrior, and The Rock. His second WWE Hall of Fame induction in 2020 as part of the nWo was a full-circle moment, marking a legacy that defined the modern wrestling narrative. But behind the spotlight was a man facing mounting personal and health challenges. A highly publicized scandal in 2015 led to his WWE exit and the loss of key endorsements, though he later returned amid controversy. In his final years, Hogan underwent over 25 surgeries, battled blood cancer, and dealt with strained family ties—all while trying to launch a new wrestling league, Real American Freestyle. Tragically, on July 24, 2025, he passed away at age 71 following a cardiac arrest, with atrial fibrillation and leukemia contributing to his death. Yet even in his final moments, Hogan stayed focused on his next big idea. Tributes poured in across the world, and Florida officially declared August 1st Hulk Hogan Day. Love him or hate him, Hulk Hogan was a content machine, a branding genius, and a viral force who redefined what it meant to be a wrestling superstar in the age of spectacle.Support the showThe audio clips used in this podcast, including excerpts from movie/series/documentary trailers, are used under the principles of fair use and fair dealing for the purpose of criticism, commentary, and review. Mister Fantastic, Invisible Woman, Human Torch and the Thing face their most daunting challenge yet as they defend Earth from Galactus and Silver Surfer. Does it do a good job setting up the next phase of the MCU, what was lacking in the story and who stole the show. In the Trailer Park, Mike talks about Mortal Kombat 2 starring Karl Urban as Johnny Cage who is an actor forced into the role of champion of Earth in a universal fighting tournament to the death.
