Show Notes On this week's podcast, Dan and Kris fire up this year's Halloween Special! What's so special about it? They didn't prepare anything, so they just made it up on the fly. They talked a lot about scalpers though. And what's more terrifying than that?    Then, in Week Old News, Blizzard unionizes some more, an old Resident Evil phone game has been saved, Mario goes to Macy's, and Microsoft breaks the record for most awful news in a single week.  Finally, in the Checkpoint, Dan and Kris talk about the show's eventual move to video, Kris talks about another eventual move to his desk, and Dan, well, he's pissed.           Enjoy! Silent Hill -pääsarjan pelejä on julkaistu tähän mennessä yhteensä kahdeksan, joista viimeisin SIlent Hill f kuluvana syksynä. Sarjan seuraava osa Resident Evil: Requiem julkaistaan ensi vuonna. Remedy-pelitalon Alan Wake ja Control -pelien lisäksi oululainen Korpi Games on pian julkaisemassa Shifting Chambers -peliään, jossa seikkaillaan taskulampun kajossa pimeässä alati muuttuvassa kauhukartanossa. Videopelien kauhusta ja kauhupeleistä Kulttuuriykkösen studiossa ovat keskustelemassa elokuvatutkimuksen opiskelija ja peliasiantuntija Juho Lipponen, pelisuunnittelija Tuuli Mäenpää, kauhupelien musiikkiin erikoistunut väitöskirjatutkija Enja Heikkilä sekä pelitoimittaja Johannes Valkola. With Xbox's famous ringworld officially arriving on PlayStation 5 in 2026, we can rest assured that Sony's longtime rival has finally conceded the console space for good. Halo: Campaign Evolved -- clever! -- is a ground-up remake of the smash-hit 2001 Xbox launch title, and it comes with some new bells and whistles, including fresh content and a four-player online-enabled campaign. Microsoft even trotted Halo's community manager out in a PlayStation shirt, promised all upcoming Halo content is Sony-bound, and yielded perhaps their last meaningful franchise to the competition. This gives us much to discuss! Plus: Helldivers 2 dev Arrowhead begins work on its next project, Horizon's live-action movie is slated to film next year and launch in '27, Resident Evil 0 Remake rumors are percolating, we may be waiting a while longer for Starfield's PS5 debut, Electronic Arts scores a renewed deal with the NFL to continue the Madden franchise, and more. Then: Listener inquiries! Why does anyone care about Photo Mode? What's our dream PowerWash Simulator 2 DLC? Is it okay to play a game without delving into its greater meaning and themes? Welcome to the final battle of Dan's season of video game movies, where we tackle the quintessential 90s movie adaptation of Midway's hyper-violent fighting game, Mortal Kombat (1995). We're closing out the season in style – or perhaps lack thereof – with the second appearance of director Paul W.S. Anderson (see our episode covering Resident Evil at the beginning of the season). Dan admits this computer game adaptation is effin stupid but still finds it fun and iconic. Meanwhile, Sarah is glad it's over for fear of any more video game movies potentially invoking mental illness upon her. This cheesy 90s action film was a massive box-office success, grossing over $120 million on a $20 million budget. We discuss the perplexing decision by New Line Cinema (who built their brand on Freddy Krueger!) to water down the signature violence and force a PG-13 rating, denying the R-rated fatalities the source material demands. Dan defends Anderson's work, noting that the director adapted his methods on set as advised by proficient martial artist and star Robin Shou (Liu Kang). We marvel at how much dedication Christopher Lambert (Raiden) had for the project and celebrate the fact that the film features some of the first major Hollywood wirework. However, we can't stop asking: What exactly is Goro, the animatronic monster that ate 5% of the film's budget? We scrutinise the confusing plot, the jarring CGI and why the usually badass Sonya Blade (Bridget Wilson Sampras) gets sidelined and forced into a dress. Listen as Sarah unleashes a final FATALITY on the season's terrible musical selections, citing the theme song as the worst soundtrack of the season–a claim Dan aggressively disputes. What to expect from this episode: We explain why the movie adaptation was forced to go PG-13, despite the game's hyper-violent reputation. Dan and Sarah argue over the iconic (or headache-inducing) movie soundtrack. We discuss the complex animatronics required to bring Goro to life, which cost $1 million and required 13-16 operators. Critique of the film's messy opening, where characters like Liu Kang, Sonya Blade and Johnny Cage are introduced haphazardly. Sarah shares some interesting trivia about how Kano's character was adapted in the game's following the release of Mortal Kombat (1995). We praise the decent fighting choreography, noting the early use of wirework in Hollywood inspired by Hong Kong action films. We discuss how Christopher Lambert's casting as Raiden was influenced by his love for the original fighting game. And finally, we thank our podcast pals Chris and Joel at Just the Thing podcast for the shout-out on their Resident Evil: Afterlife episode, which is an excellent companion show for our Resident Evil episode. Sadly, that concludes Dan's season of video-game adaptations but fear not, for we will return on November 24th for a brand new season and a brand new theme, as chosen by Sarah. Be sure to listen right to the end of this episode to find out what she has in store.  If you would like to find out the full lineup for the next season, sign up to Patreon as a FREE member to see the schedule when it drops, in a few weeks. Released in the United States 20 years to the day, the PS2 version of Resident Evil 4 marked a major first in the Biohazard series - the first subsequent re-release with a major canonical add-on in the form of the wonderful Separate Ways campaign. At the time whilst such a notion greatly annoyed GameCube owners, many saw Separate Way as the extra that "saved the game" in terms of connection to the overall Resident Evil lore. 20 years on, REP once again make their way back to Spain to replay this short and sweet Ada adventure beginning to end. We recount our tales with tips and tricks from various platforms - that is if Neptune does not have any issues playing with a WaveBird controller. News includes the surprising revelation that Switch 2 is getting a Requiem release - as well more updates from Survival Unit - much to STARS TyranT's dismay!

Sorry to say, no Alex today. We that remain will do our best.Chamberlain hates what he thought he would like, tolerates but eventually abandons what he thought he would hate, gets emotionally involved with a 4 legged lighthouse, then settles in with Ninja Gaiden 4, a game so difficult he can only play it sober. And Chance can't find a place to be comfortable, stating at least two play throughs of Resident Evil 4, one of Baldur's Gate 3 and even a multiplayer session of Ghost of Tsushima before giving up and just watching movies. 2025 may have peaked.

Mit Resident Evil (2002), Resident Evil: Apocalypse (2004) und Resident Evil: Exitinction (2007) beginnt der Zombie-Actionhorror jedenfalls vielversprechend …

I couldn't put it down and now I get why so many say it set the bar for remakes all those years ago.The OG Resident Evil is one of the most important (and fun) games ever made IMO, and Remake improves on practically every aspect of it. INCREDIBLE graphics, better controls, slightly less cheesy voice acting, and more. It takes all the ingredients in a great bowl of soup and someone makes them even greater. I don't know if I'd call this the place for newcomers to the series to start because of the tank controls, but I think it's an absolutely must-play for horror fans and one of the best in the series.RTG's resident evil, my buddy Patrick, is my guest this week. We have different opinions on some entries in the Resident Evil series, but we both agree this remake is top shelf. One of us doesn't care for the mansion setting though, and the other thinks that's crazy. And before we kill zombies, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks what Nintendo needs to do to stop being a villain? After their horrible year, do I still like Xbox more than PlayStation? And why didn't I launch the indie game podcast I was considering??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! This one features 3 of the lesser-known Resident Evil entries: Survivor, Outbreak, and The Umbrella Chronicles.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.

Anderson (except for an in-name-only producer credit), but hey, we've got a crap-ton of 1998 references to make up for it! That's because Resident Evil: Welcome to Raccoon City promised to be a more faithful adaptation of the original video game source material, condensing the first two games into one movie. And yet, even with this allegedly more accurate representation of the beloved video game series, Welcome to Raccoon City clearly did not spawn the same sort of long-running, financially successful franchise that Paul W.S. Anderson's less faithful adaptation did. But...why? We pull out our Palm Pilots and investigate. Our Twitter Our Facebook Our Instagram Our YouTube Trev's Letterboxd Chris' Letterboxd

In today's Daily Fix:Microsoft is saying the controversial price of the ROG Xbox Ally X wasn't set by them, but rather hardware maker ASUS. The Xbox Ally and Xbox Ally X are $599 and $999 respectively, and feature Xbox-themed UI and connect to the users' Xbox accounts, but are technically ASUS products under the ROG brand. Despite the price, Microsoft claims the devices have sold out on the Xbox store and other retailers, and the critical response has been overall positive, despite the steep price. In other news, Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 3's co-director is saying that the game's combat system is not yet decided, despite calls for the series to return to turn-based roots. This comes after the surprise success of Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, which features many game mechanics popularized by JRPGs like classic FF titles. And finally, a leak about more Resident Evil remakes may prove to be real, with reports saying Resident Evil 0 and Code Veronica are next on Capcom's to-do list.

This time they tackle the first 3 of the series, Resident Evil, Resident Evil: Apocalypse, Resident Evil: Extinction. While some of our crew holds a soft spot in their heart for this franchise there our others who might not hold these movies in high regards.   It's zombie killing season this month for Loose Cannon. Nemesis is awesome, but the gameplay gets under my skin and just sets 3 up to be the weakest of the trilogy, IMO.That doesn't mean Resident Evil 3 is a bad game. It's certainly no Resident Evil 6. I replayed it for the first time in years to get ready for this episode and actually like it a little more than I did on my first run. There's a lot to like here, it's just surrounded by frustrating and tedious combat.RTG's Nemesis, my pal Tyler, is my guest this week. I'm writing this before we talked so I don't actually know how he feels about this game. But I bet he likes it.And before we run from Nemesis, I put together another edition of the Infamous Intro! This week someone asks if I've changed my opinion on horror themed media? Where should a JRPG noob start? And which retro games needed trophies/achievements??Plus we play another round of 'Play One, Remake One, Erase One', too! It's such a joy to introduce everyone to my delightfully knowledgeable work buddy Pat King (aka PK), who's a veteran bookseller at Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, AZ. One of our most beloved employees with decades of experience, PK is a Book Ninja, in that you can walk in, tell him what you're interested in or the kind of stuff you like & he'll find you your new favorite read. This week, I brought him on to discuss another one of his passions beyond Science Fiction & Horror. As a video game enthusiast & collector, PK is the perfect person to inject the pod (& this heavy year) with a little bit of nostalgia. Sharing our early memories of our first video game systems & favorite games, we move on to discuss the film adaptations of LARA CROFT: TOMB RAIDER (2001), the first RESIDENT EVIL film (2002), SONIC THE HEDGEHOG (2020), & the recent animated SUPER MARIO BROS MOVIE (2023).Originally Posted on Patreon (10/14/25) here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/141220694Shop Watch With Jen logo Merchandise in Logo Designer Kate Gabrielle's Threadless ShopDonate to the Pod via Ko-fiTheme Music: Solo Acoustic Guitar by Jason Shaw, Free Music Archive
