The author of Sex, Drums, and Rock 'n Roll... In Africa! Danny De Wet is full-time drama and one-time drummer for eVoid, Petit Cheval, Electric Petals, and Wonderboom. And he's the author of 'Sex, Drums and Rock 'n Roll... in Africa'. We caught up to chat all about his book, his career, and the one he holds most dear (spoiler alert, it's his son!) This episode is full of great stories of a life lived on the stage and on tour - with a touch of blunt honesty, dash of 'ex-sagittarriun', and a HUGE amount of heart. If you love South African music, and want to reminisce about a time when live music was REALLY well supported, then this episode is for you. And so is Danny's book! It's a great read, and you'll find things to delight, humour and inspire you. In this milestone 200th episode of Concerts That Made Us, Brian has the pleasure of welcoming Cito, the charismatic frontman of the renowned South African band Wonderboom. As they gear up for the release of their much-anticipated album "Hard Mode," scheduled to drop on March 22nd, Cito delves into the essence of what fans can expect from this latest project. The album is a testament to Wonderboom's impressive 28-year journey in the music industry, encapsulating an eclectic mix of genres that have influenced the band over the years. With their rock core sound at the heart of it all, "Hard Mode" also weaves in elements of punk, funk, hip hop, and the South African genre of kwaito, showcasing the band's versatility and dynamic range.Cito shares the creative process behind their single "Miss Demeanor," which they've crafted with the intention of capturing the energy of the dance floor and becoming a hit that resonates with audiences everywhere. The collaboration with esteemed producer Matthew Fink has been a significant part of their journey, especially as the band has strategically released singles in the lead-up to the full album since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic.Cito gives listeners an insider's view of the band's meticulous preparation for recording, their collective excitement for embarking on a nationwide tour, and their aspirations to connect with international audiences, with a special mention of their desire to perform in Ireland.Reflecting on the band's storied past, Cito recounts some of the most memorable gigs they've played, including the unforgettable experience of opening for the legendary Guns N' Roses. He also candidly discusses the evolution of the band's pre-show rituals, shifting from the wild partying of their early days to adopting a more disciplined approach to ensure peak performance.Beyond the music, Cito opens up about personal fan encounters that have left a lasting impression, his entrepreneurial venture into the coffee business, and his deep-seated admiration for musical icons such as Thom Yorke and Nick Cave. He also expresses his enduring love for the album "Dummy" by Portishead, highlighting its influence on his own musical sensibilities.Join me in this engaging conversation with Cito as we celebrate the 200th episode of the podcast, exploring the past, present, and future of Wonderboom, and the vibrant tapestry of sounds that define their upcoming album "Hard Mode."Find Wonderboom here:https://wonderboom.co.za/Find CTMU hereLinktreeNewsletter: https://concertsthatmadeus.aweb.page/p/f065707b-2e34-4268-8e73-94f12bd2e938Save 10% on Band Builder Academy membership by following this link https://bandbuilderacademy.com/Brian_Concerts/join and using promo code "concerts" at signup Become a member at https://plus.acast.com/s/concerts-that-made-us. S6E47 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 23 Nov 2023.  The live show was a bit of a disaster due to the fibre going down, I had to abort half way through.  The podcast however is great.  We kicked off with ‘Good Times' by Jimmy Barnes in a duet with the late great Michael Hutchins.  From there it was ‘all systems dogs' as Danie Maritz used to say.  We covered a wide range of rock and roll from around the world and across the decades.  See Artists featured below to check out who was on the show.   The Immortals track this week featured Guitar God Yngwie Malmsteen.   His Rising Force album left guitarists around the world gob smacked.  It was hard to believe anyone could play this fast with super human precision.  The Icarus Dream Suite is the prefect showcase of what Yngwie was all about.   This weeks Diabolical Challenge didn't get a lot of love.  It is interesting how many people that love rock and metal and know all the classic bands seemed to stop listening in about 2010.  I found it difficult to get any clear favourite out of these four.  Most people just had not listened to them: Foo Fighters – Concrete and GoldArch Enemy – Will To PowerKreator – Gods of ViolenceAccept – The Rise of Chaos  Artists featured:  Jimmy Barnes, Clutch, The L.A. Episode 12 of Season 6 went out live at 19h00 on Rebel Rock Radio on 23 March 2023.  Guns ‘n' Roses were first up with 14 Years, closely followed by Great White and a track off Hooked called ‘South Bay Cities'.  Megadeth's ‘Victory' off Youthanasia made it a bit heavier but them we mellowed out again with Free and a track called ‘Heartbreaker'.  We stayed mellow with Gov't Car's 'Kings Highway' and then picked up the pace with Danko Jones and Van Halen.   We got heavy with Annihilator and spent some time discussing the guitarist Jeff Waters and marvelling at just how great and overlooked he is.  There was also new stuff from Rival Sons and Buck Cherry.  Both albums are to be released in April from what I have heard.  The Jackson Colt interview was really cool, I loved talking to him and the new track 'Strangers' boasts an amazing solo, which is worth focusing on.  SA Rock is alive and well, we continued with another track from Second Chapter the new release from Jack Hammer Band, then Wonderboom with the uber classic 'Never Ever Ever Ever'.  From there we went deep on the lyrics with Arapaho and Wicked Wonder. This weeks Immortals track was 'Machine Gun' recorded Live at the Filmore East.  According to Classic Rock it is Joe Satriani's favorite Hendrix track, who are we to argue with Joe.  The Ultimate Challenge between Queen - Night At the Opera, Led Zeppelin - Physical GRaffiti, Kiss - Alive! and Bruce Springsteen - Born To Run ended up with led Zeppelin getting  a few more votes than the others.  Teh 20th century me would have taken Kiss bt the 21st century me picked Born To Run.  The highlight of the show was taking a listenn to the brand new Extreme track called 'Rise'.  A lot of people (Rick Beato, Phil X, Steve Lukather, James Daubeney:-)) are talking about Nuno Bettencourts solo on this.  It is so good we played it twice.  The end of the show was nice and heavy playing out with The Agonist, Arch Enemy, Hell Yeah and Malevolence.   Artists featured:  Guns ‘n' Roses, Great White, Deep Purple, Megadeth, Edguy, Free, Gov't Mule, Danko Jones, Van Halen, Annihlator, Buckcherry, Billy idol, Greta Van Fleet, Rival Sons, Bernie Tormé, Girish and the Chronicles, Tesla, Opink Floyd, ACDC, Jackson Colt, Jack Hammer Band, Wonderboom, Arapaho, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, KISS, Queen, Bruce Springsteen, Extreme, Joe Bonamassa, The Agonist, Arch Enemy, Hell Yeah, Kid Rock, MalevolenceThe Story of Rock and Roll. Episode 43 kicked off at 19h00 on 27 Oct 2022 live on Rebel Rock Radio.  We got straight into it with a track off one of the best live albums ever released, Bruce Springsteen's Live 1975 to '85, and a track called ‘Spirit in the Night'.  From there it was time for some Thin Lizzy followed by Aussie rockers Airbourne and a track called ‘No Way But the Hard Way'.  It was good to hear  Kim Mitchell's killer track ‘Go For Soda' again.  It should a staple on all those one-hit-wonder compilation albums.  From there we went to ‘Hear About it Later' off Van Halen's Fairwarning album, Dave Lee Roth at his languid best.   As always, it has to be said that Eddie Van Halen left a hole that cannot be filled.   Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown made a welcome return to TSORR with a track called 'Fuel' off their Pressure album.  Load shedding has hit internet radio hard causing one of TSORR's greatest supporters to be absent for a few weeks.  On this episode he was tuned in, so we caught up on a few of his besties, Space Lord by Monster Magnet, 'Dead Again' from Buckcherry and then some Marilyn Manson and Type O negative to round it out.  We stayed in the M's and went heavy with Machine Head and a stunning track off the new Megadeth called ‘Mission To Mars'.   There were a couple of birthdays to celebrate, Tom Petty would have been 72 last week, KK Downing is 71 today and SA guitar maestro Richard Pryor had a birthday yesterday.  We heard from all of them.  It was great to check out some vintage Iron Maiden in the form of ‘ Children of The Damned.  From there Diverted Disorder bought some heaviness to the proceedings.  Hailing from the Vaal, this 4-Piece are making waves with their awesome style of in their own words “Alternative, Rock, Blues blended with Trash, core, and Death Metal to create melodic perfection”.  We stayed in SA with Shadowclub and a track called 'Good Morning Killer'.  The aforementioned SA guitar maestro Richard Pryor's solo project Pebbleman got a look in with a track called ‘Searching'.  Halestorm, Thundermother, and an amazing bit of teamwork between Nita Strauss and Alissa White-Gluz gave the ladies some airtime.  The Nita and Alissa track is called ‘The Wolf You Feed' and it is really cool, check it out.Following on from last week's Crowded House track we had a listen to Tim Finn's big hit 'I Got You' when he was still with Split Enz.  The statute of limitations on God save the Queen is now over so we gave the Sex Pistols a chance and then checked out a brand new track from Blink 182, some Fall Out Boy, and a very moving track from My Chemical Romance called 'The Light Behind Your Eyes'.   Artists featured:  Bruce Springsteen & the E Street Band, Thin Lizzy, Stone Sour, Audioslave, Kim Mitchell, Van Halen, Warrant, Tyler Bryant & The Shakedown, Monster Magnet, Buckcherry, Marilyn Manson, Type O Negative, Machine Head, Megadeth, Wonderboom, Pebbleman, Tom Petty &the Heartbreakers, John Mellencamp, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Halestorm, Thundermother, Nita Strauss & Alissa White-Gluz, Queensrÿche, Diverted Disorder, Shadowclub, Split Enz, Sex Pistols, Blink 182, Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance, U2, Foo Fighters, Overdrivers, Hinder, In Flames  The Story of Rock and Roll. Episode 42 of Season 5 kicked off at 19h00 on 20 Oct 2022.  The show was live on Rebel Rock Radio and made up for last week's disaster after the lightning strike.  Apologies again for that little abortion, it's nice to be back in control and with a new inverter to keep the load shedding at bay.  The show kicked off with Accept and a track called “What's Done is Done' off The Rise of Chaos.  Mark Tornillo on vocals and Wolf Hoffman on lead guitar. Then we took a listen to a band that was new to me called Dead City Ruins and a track called 'Preacher'.  They've got four albums out and they hail from Australia.  The classic rock flag flew for a while while we heard from Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, and ACDC before chilling to Audioslave with ‘Like a Stone' and then ‘Rats' from Pearl Jam.  'Like a Stone' hit a billion YouTube views this week so that was worth celebrating.  We also checked out KISS with the seldom-played 'Do You Love Me'.  This was off Kiss Alive IV and has Peter Criss on drums and Tommy Thayer on guitar, check out the interview I did with Tommy Thayer in the podcast list on 28 Nov 2019.   What a nice guy.    The Johnny Kongos classic 'Tokoloshe Man', recorded back in 1971, sounded great and stands up well as did another South African classic from a band called Big Sky.  We got into the heavier stuff with Motorhead and UFO and from there it was guitar time and a track from White Lion called 'Fight To Survive' featuring the amazing Vito Bratta on guitar.  The story of Mike Slammer's involvement with Warrant and Joey Allen, was briefly covered then we got into some metal courtesy of Claymorean and South Africa's own Infanteria out of Cape Town and some more local music with Jasper Dan and Black Bone Nation.  This week the Punk came from the USA in the form of Green Day with 'Welcome to Paradise' off 1991's Kerplunk.  We also heard a track, relevant to the whole world right now called "The Economy Is Suffering' by  Anti-Flag.  Dave Hause with his track 'Bearing Down' off Kick was a highlight for me and is pretty deep.  In This Moment showed us all how good a rave could be if Maria Brink was running the show and we went heavy again with Parkway Drive and Megadeth.  the show closed with Lamb of God and a track called 'Ditch' off their new album Omens.  I said that we would play out with Slipknot but then changed my mind and did the LOG instead.    Artists featured:  Accept, Cancer Bats, Dead City Ruins, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, ACDC, Black Label Society, Joe Bonamassa, Audioslave, Pearl Jam, Godsmack, KISS, Judas Priest, Johnny Kongos, Big Sky, Motörhead, Warrant, Anti-Flag, Green Day, Claymorean, Infanteria, Black Bone Nation, Jasper Dan, Crowded House, Dave Hause, In This Moment, Marilyn Manson, Parkway Drive, Megadeth, Tribute To Leslie West, Wonderboom, UK Subs, My Chemical Romance, Lamb of GodThe Story of Rock and Roll. Plans progressing for 744 MW energy for alloys business – Merafe

Construction of the Swedish Stirling plant that converts off-gas to electricity will take place at the Lion ferrochrome smelter near Steelport starting in the second half of this year, Merafe Resources CEO Zanele Matlala said on Tuesday, when the ferrochrome company announced a dividend-yielding profit of R925-million for the six months to June 30. Merafe, which shares 20.5% of the earnings generated from the Glencore-Merafe Chrome Venture, is also at an advanced stage of considering on-site and off-site renewable energy solar and wind projects. Preferred power suppliers for the off-site plants have been identified, Matlala disclosed during the Johannesburg Stock Exchange-listed company's presentation of 68%-higher half-year earnings of R1 373-million. In response to Mining Weekly, Glencore Alloys CEO Japie Fullard described the venture's renewable energy strategy as being “well in hand”. “We've started with our cogeneration project at the Lion Complex with Swedish Stirling. That first block will be delivered within the next month,” said Fullard, with projects being looked at including battery storage technology. “We're busy with prefeasibility studies on quite a few behind-the-meter projects,” he said. These on-site projects will typically be photovoltaic (PV). “We're also considering starting some capacity at some operations, and also on the eastern side, close to the chrome mines. “Then if you look at our off-site projects, we've signed deals to take the off-site projects to feasibility stage,” he said. Making up the estimated combined total 744 MW are: 184 MW of off-site PV installation, for which permission has been granted to proceed to bankable feasibility, plus another off-site 300 MW, split equally between wind and solar at 150 MW each, being under consideration; 200 MW of on-site behind-the-meter PV projects, with a prefeasibility study under way in the Wonderboom smelter complex area; 50 MW under consideration for the Eastern Chrome Mines area; and 10 MW of cogeneration at the Lion smelter. CASH ON HAND Merafe FD Ditabe Chocho reported that improved earnings had boosted the company's cash position. “We started 2022 with a combined cash balance of R972-million. Net cash from operating activities increased the cash balance by R748-million,” said Chocho. Cash was used to fund half-year capital expenditure of R155-million as well as the 2021 final dividend of R549-million. The closing cash balance of the ungeared company was R1-billion, which includes Merafe's own cash as well as its share of cash held by the venture. Ninety per cent of the ferrochrome produced is used in stainless steel and speciality steels, with global stainless steel production in 2021 increasing from 51.5-million tonnes in 2020 to 58.9-million tonnes. ONE-YEAR PGM PAY BACK Capital of R44-million has been spent to date on the platinum group metals (PGMs) plant at the Kroondal mine, with R11-million more to come. Episode 29 of Season 5 kicked off live on Rebel Rock Radio at 7 pm on 21 July 2022.  I reckon this was one of the coolest starts ever and featured a little clip of Tom Petty telling the audience in Inglewood to clear the aisles.   The original idea to have a mellow start was blown to Smithereens by Therapy with ‘Trigger Inside' followed by Scorpions and UFO with ‘Blackout' and Lights Out' respectively.  Punches were being swung at the government and all was good.  We took a listen to Trivium, Matt Heafy's band and they have really grown on me.   This week is based on last week's aborted show but with some super-excellent enhancements.  I am in a far better mood.     We checked out Tindrum a band that I found on the Phil Wright Tapes,  in a continuation of what I call tracks from Tracks From The Grave,  we checked out a track called Street Fighter by Tindrum.  From there we had Welcome to the Circus, brand new from Five Finger Death Punch.  This time last week I was losing my rhythm, resetting streams, and generally pissing the listeners off so it was great to be able to do this show justice.  Some of it has changed, mainly the sentiment (happy, grateful) but most of it stayed the same.  Blue Öyster Cult hit the spot with a track called ‘Fight', which we must.  We then entered the ‘Belly Of The Best' with Sixx A.M., this bit got a bit personal with the current state of things in SA.  I experienced an armed robbery last week, 9 guys moved into our factory and took us prisoner, lie on the floor type shit you see in the movies.  We managed to outwit them and set off the alarm but it could have ended very badly.  The next two songs, Bastards by Machine Head and (Don't let Em) Grind Ya Down by Motörhead summed up the need to fight this shit.  We cannot let the bad guys win.  Things balanced out with Rival Sons and the stoic sentiments of Good Things and we let the power of great rock music do its work, Bad Company, and Foreigner were good medicine. We had the evolution of female vocals with Sheryl Crow, Lzzy Hale, and Alisa White-Gluz.  We sorted out the UK Punk with Stiff Little Fingers, Sex Pistols and The Stranglers, and US Punk with Fall Out Boy and The Distillers.   Brody Dale is such an iconic rock chick, she should do more albums.  We ended the show with a lot of SA music and started with Springbok Nude Girls, then Mark Haze, then Nibs Van Der Spuy.  People wanted more so we had Valiant Swart and we went out with Johnathan Martin's amazing track 'I Wish You Well'.   The highlight of the show for me was the shout-out to Danny De Wet and his awesome book Sex, Drums and Rock n Roll……In Africa.  I spent time with Danny last weekend and he managed to get my book into the hands of Lucien Windrich who took TSORR on the plane with him back to the UK after a very successful Johnny Clegg tribute gig.  We took a listen to Wonderboom with a cover of eVoids 'Shadows', two bands Danny was an integral part of.   Artists featured: Therapy?, Scorpions, UFO, Trivium, Black Label Society, Warrant, Tindrum, Smith/Kotzen, Five Finger Death Punch, Blue Oyster Cult, Sixx A.M., Machine Head, Motörhead, Rival Sons, Saxon, Wonderboom, Arapaho, Bad Company, Foreigner, Slade, Mott The Hoople, Dire Straits, Jimi Hendrix, Sheryl Crow, Halestorm, Arch Enemy, Upon A Burning Body, Megadeth, Volbeat, Stiff Little Fingers, Sex Pistols, The Stranglers, Fall Out Boy, The Distillers, Springbok Nude Girls, Mark Haze, Nibs Van Der Spuy, Valiant Swart, Johnathan Martin

Episode 27 of season 5 aired on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 7 July 2022.  The show kicked off with a live track from Volbeat called 'Maybellene I Hofteholder'.  It was a nice way to start actually and it sort of set the tone for a mellow (by TSORR standards) beginning.  From there we had a band called Austin Gold with the title track off their debut album Before Black Clouds.  Next up California Breed, that's half of Black Country Communion, plus Ozzy Osbourne producer Andrew Watt.  After that, we smashed some of that Southern Rock action with Blackfoot and Rhino Bucket.  Rhino Bucket is out of California so while not strictly Southern Rock, you can hear the influences in the music.  The track we played was 'Going Down Tonight'.  We also had some of SA's own Jasper Dan which is a band I really dig.   Danko Jones let off a bit of steam and offered up some good advice on what to do when people cross you.  We also said farewell and RIP to Manny Charlton, guitarist and founder member of the beloved 70's juggernaut known by the name of Nazareth.  'Hair of the Dog' was a fitting tribute to a great guitarist and songwriter.  Mannie was 80 so that's pretty good for rock and roll, well played sir.  We listen to Queensrÿche and Rush, two giants of prog according to some, but I figure it's not prog because I really love it.  Carlos Santana had a collapse on stage this week and was rushed to hospital, he's OK, a bit of dehydration (the dude is 74) so to wish him well (because he never misses TSORR lol) we played his version of 'Whole Lotta Love' feat. Chris Cornell.  Overall it was a fairly balanced show, we were light on Aussie and German stuff and only managed 4 SA tracks, one of which is my latest discovery, a band out of Cape Town called Infanteria, check them out they are great.  The classic '80s stuff came from Kiss, Dokken, and Dio and Asking Alexandria, Testament, and Amon Amarth brought the metal to the party.   We ended super mellow with The Stranglers and 'Don't Bring Harry' and a beautiful track from Wonderboom called "Night Falls Like a Grand Piano'.   I managed to tone down the doom and gloom a bit although we are still on Stage 5 load shedding in South Africa and it really affects the number of listeners that catch the show. This in turn affects the energy of the whole thing., see if you notice.   Artists Featured:  Volbeat, Austin Gold, California Breed, Blackfoot, Rhino Bucket, Danko Jones, Nazareth, Jasper Dan, Queensrÿche, Rush, Dio, Forbidden, Santana feat. Chris Cornell, The Dead Daisies, Stone Sour, Testament, The Police, Pixies, Foo fighters, Mastodon, Infanteria, Kiss, Dokken, Bad Company, Deep Purple, Steve Morse, Joe Bonamassa, Fall out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Asking Alexandria, Amon Amarth, Warlock, Pretenders, The Stranglers, Wonderboom.

Episode 33 of Season 4 aired on 19 August 2021.  We kicked off with my current favorites Chrome Division and then spent some time in the '70s with Grand Funk Railroad and Kiss.  From there we got right back to the present day with Seether's new EP Wasteland - The Purgatory.   In general, it was a pretty balanced show we checked out John Mellencamp and Kid Rock and got as heavy as Anthrax and King Diamond.  The Punk came from Die Toten Hosen, The Jam, and The Clash.Aussie was represented by ACDC and Airbourne and SA by Wonderboom, Government Car, The Uninvited, and Lithium.  We also risked the wrath of a world of haters by playing Nickelback and we countered the sexism of the song with an equally sexist viewpoint from the ladies in the form of The Donnas and 'Take Me To The Back Seat'.  The highlight of the show for me was back-to-back Led Zeppelin and The Cult with 'Tangerine' and 'Edie (Caio Baby)' respectively as well as Cold Chisel's live long-form version of 'Bow River' featuring the very underrated Ian Moss on guitar and vocals.  Artists featured:  Chrome Division, Grand Funk Railroad, Kiss, Seether, Soundgarden, Airbourne, Trouble, Philip Sayce, The Lazys, Led Zeppelin, The Cult, Nashville Pussy, ACDC, Greta Van Fleet, System of a Down, Blink 182, Shinedown, Cold Chisel, Iron Maiden, King Diamond, Die Toten Hosen, the Jam, the Clash, Anthrax, Coheed & Cambria, The Rolling Stones, The Who, The Uninvited, Government Car, Kid Rock, John Mellencamp, Clutch, Judas Priest, Last In Line, Y&T, The Offspring, Wonderboom, Lithium, Nickelback, The Donna's, Hell Fire.

Episode 21 of Season 4 kicked off on Rebel Rock Radio at 7 pm on 27 May 2021.  We started with Yngwie Malmsteen and Jeff Scott Soto's wonderful cover of 'Magical Mystery Tour' off Butchering the Beatles.  It's probably one of the best ways you can possibly start a radio show.  From there it was Five Finger Death Punch, and then a detour down 'Copperhead Road' with Steve Earle and some Dire Straits before we unwittingly ended up in a sort of Aliens theme for a few songs courtesy of Journey, Blink 182, and The Misfits.  The back-to-back Iron Maiden and Judas Priest with 'Blood Red Skies' bought us back to earth. The Doors with 'Riders on the Storm' really went down well, it's such an incredible song, or as one listener put it "for my soul".  SA bands included Mark Haze, Wonderboom, Arapaho, The Color Blew, and near the end, what I consider to be the best metal band in the country, Sunken State with a new track called ' Separation Has Begun'.  Mark my words this band is going to be huge as far as metal bands can be huge in today's world.  Highlights for me were listening to The Mayfield Four with 'Summergirl' and around 4 min in where Myles Kennedy just takes his vocals to a new level, absolutely incredible.  Whitesnake with 'Still of the Night' sounded amazing and Arch Enemy with Alissa White-Gluz on vocals and Michael Amott on guitar rounded out the highlights with 'You Will Know My Name' off War Eternal.   Artists featured:  Yngwie Malmsteen, Dangerous Toys, UFO, Slash, Five Finger Death Punch, Steve Earle, Dire Straits, Anthrax, Journey, Blink 182, Ramones, The Misfits, Whitesnake, Skid Row, Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Rammstein, Metallica, Shinedown, Mark Haze, Wonderboom, Arapaho, The Doors, LA Rats, Arch Enemy, Megadeth, W.A.S.P., Thin Lizzy, Sinner, The Mayfield Four, The Pretty Reckless, Temple of the Dog, Biters, Van Halen, Sunken State, Venom, The Color Blew

S3E15 aired at 7 pm on 26 Nov 2020.  It was pretty painless, to be honest,  we started with Halford and ended with Sixx AM, as usual time flew and many songs ended getting left out.  According to the Rebel Rock Radio app data Asking Alexandria got 4 times more likes than anything else which I was surprised but happy to see.  Other noticeable mentions were John Cougar, Nirvana, Wonderboom, Rose Tattoo, Scorpions, and ACDC with Code Red off the new Power Up album.  It's the first time I have looked at those stats so that was quite interesting.   On the local front, we had The Burning, Koos Kombuis, Wonderboom, and The Black Cat Bones with an amazing track called The Hunter, this was off an album in my collection called SA Blues Breakers.  There was a nice bit in the middle with Tool's Aenima and Faith No More with Ashes to Ashes.  They went down very well.  The new Armored saint album Punching the Sky is also very good and we took a listen to Standing On The Shoulders of Giants.   Artists featured:  Halford, Armored Saint, Led Zeppelin, Scorpions, Rose Tattoo, ACDC, Warrant, Ted Nugent, The Clash, Stiff Little Fingers, The Jam, Slipknot, Asking Alexandria, The Black Cat Bones, Wonderboom, Nirvana, Koos Kombuis, Accept, Megadeth, Tool, Faith No More, Jimmy Barnes, Powderfinger, WASP, Metallica, Marilyn Manson, David Bowie, Emigrate, Extreme, Dokken, Rainbow, Green Day, John Mellencamp, Bruce Springsteen, Kiss, Def Leppard, Guns ‘n' Roses, and Sixx AM

Season 3 Episode 2 of The Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show was broadcasted live on Rebel Rock Radio between 7 and 10 pm on Thursday 27 August 2020.  It took place from behind the bar in Planet Rock and it was one of the most enjoyable shows I have done in ages.  The music was really great we had everything from Slayer to Lita Ford.  Most of the technical problems have been resolved and the odd mistake is rooted in stupidity more than anything else.  For example, I have sorted out the monitors and can listen to the show without the headphones but there is a delay so when the song ends on the monitors its already been over for a few seconds in the headphones, you may hear one or two of those lapses, but I the words of the Who I “Won't get fooled again”.   The show kicked off with Iron Maiden and a Live version of 'The Number of The Beast', and the front row was filled out by ACDC and Metallica with 'The Thing That Should Not Be'.  Tyler Bryant and the Shakedown sounded particularly cool as did Dino Jelusic's outfit Animal Drive.  The new Bush album got another airing with a track called ‘Send in the Clowns' which reminded me of parliament.  Oasis made a welcome return as did Alice in Chains with 'Rain When I Die'.  It was also lekker to catch ZZ Top's 'Big Shiny Nine'. I am still not happy with the microphone and I'll have to do a bit more work, it's better but not right.  As I said last week, I suspect you are here for the music not to hear me talk kak and the music sounds great so it's all good.  The highlight of the show for me was Heaven Shall Burn with their epic dual-language masterpiece Expatriate.  I advised pulling up the lyrics before I played it, the German part, in particular, is powerful as Thanos.  Other than that we had Johnathan Martin, The Uninvited and The Springbok Nude Girls representing South Africa, Scorpions for Germany, Oasis for the UK and plenty of USA in the form of Mötley Crüe & Megadeth.  There is so much here, a 3-hour show is fantastic.  The big trick was to get the ending right because the show kicks out at exactly 10 pm and it will cut off even the lord's prayer.  I nailed that sucker and you get the full song.   Artists featured:  Mötley Crüe, Halestorm, Scorpions, Manowar, Bruce Springsteen, Animal Drive, The Uninvited, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Tom Petty, Johnathan Martin, Soundgarden, Adrenaline Mob, Megadeth, Tyler Bryant & the Shakedown, ACDC, U.D.O., Sebastian Bach, The Gaslight Anthem, My Chemical Romance, Lita Ford, Avenged Sevenfold, ZZ Top, Queensrÿche, Slayer, Oasis, Cinderella, Bush, Trouble, Wonderboom, Springbok Nude Girls, Blink 182, Heave Shall Burn, Texas Hippie Coalition, We Are Harlot, Joe Jackson, Alice in Chains, Neil Young

Episode 27 was recorded at midnight on 12 July 2019.  As always the show contains an eclectic mix of Rock, Metal, Ballads and Blues.  It was pretty diverse and had a good flow, the only technical hitch was an annoying little problem where the recording cut off some of the talking at the beginning of the show.  Maybe it's trying to tell me something, anyway you may hear a couple of bits where it jumps.  I don't like to edit the show, it's important that it goes out as is but I am looking at a solution to this little source of irritation.     One of the highlights was the local slot where I put Wonderboom and Van Coke Kartel back to back and it just sounded amazing, such good energy from these two amazing South African bands.  The show features 26 fantastic artists including ZZ Top, Godsmack, Iron Maiden, Rory Gallagher, Ozzy Osbourne, The Uninvited, Black Label Society, Fastway, Judas Priest, The Doors, Roadkill Ghost Choir, Halestorm, Van Coke Kartel, Clutch, Rammstein, Wonderboom, Cheap Trick, Jimmy Barnes, Crash Car Burn, U.D.O., The Uninvited, The Quireboys, Slipknot, Tom Petty, The Gaslight Anthem, Tom Keifer & The Stranglers. Cheers, #TSORR:  It's All About The Music m/

It's even waterproof and mudproof, so you can take it rafting. All that for $200. But that's still too much Bitcoin for most people.
