Episode 37 of Season 6 went out live on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 14 September 2023. Once again, the airwaves were cooking thanks to The Rock Doctor's Rock Power Hour Turbo edition that precedes The Story of Rock and Roll radio Show. We kicked off with Kiss, basically the band most responsible for TSORR as it was the band that melted my brain 12-year-old brain and changed everything. That story is in the book The Story of Rock and Roll which you can find on Amazon as a Kindle edition. We had a good selection as always, pretty much something for everyone with a build-up to the heavy stuff at the end. Check the artists featured to see who got a look in. The Immortals slot was ably filled by Pink Floyd. We took a listen to Sorrow off the delicate Sound Of Thunder album. After Simon Wright's career with AC/DC 'blows up', he goes on to sit behind the drum kit for even more rock 'n' roll heroes, including Ronnie James Dio, Rhino Bucket, Michael Schenker & UFO, John Norum of Europe, Geoff Tate's Queensryche and Metal Gods with Tim "Ripper" Owens, the ultimate ode to Dio & Judas Priest. Through divorce, death, and decades of drumming, Simon's musical journey continues.
Certain people and bands from heavy metal's distinguished history are considered untouchable.Band like Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Dio and Rainbow have helped shape the metal scene into the all encompassing genre of music that it is today, pioneering a sound that has become a way of life. While many outfits have covered any or all of these bands and countless tribute bands have toured the world making a living from someone else's name and music, fans and music lovers of all ages have been generally accepting of their actions because it allows them to revisit a period in time that would have died out with the end of such bands. But every so often a tribute act manages to rope in an ex member from the original bands, adding authenticity and nostalgia to the package and therefore justifying its existence on a wider scale.Seldom, if ever, has a tribute band been assemble that boasts more than one member of the band(s) they are paying homage to. It just doesn't happen for logistical reasons – usually the passing of one or more of the original members or the fact that the old members simply don't get along any more.Enter the newly formed project Metal Gods which is set to play a run of Australian shows this coming November.Legendary Australian bass player James Morley – who has assembled a number of high profile projects over the years, including Bon But Not Forgotten – came up with idea to bring two of his collegues together to perform songs by famous bands that they had actually been part of during some of the original band's glory years. His vision was to bring to life the music of Judas Priest, Dio, Black Sabbath and more but to do that he needed members who would not only be able to pull it off, but, more importantly, draw a crowd that would usually remain faithful only to the original versions of the bands. He first approached former AC/DC and Dio drummer Simon Wright before completing the quinella by successfully pursuing former Judas Priest vocalist Tim ‘Ripper' Owens. It was a masterstroke that has already generated mountains of enthusiastic response despite not having performed as yet in this country.Simon Wright sat down with HEAVY earlier this week to discuss Metal Gods and the upcoming run of shows."My friend James Morley had the idea,” he reiterated about how Metal Gods came into being. “We did some shows in 2017 or 2018 - I can't remember - but we did a little run with Tim with us doing a Priest set, but this time James came up with the concept of lets do some Dio and Priest. I was like, do you wanna throw in some UFO and Rhino Bucket as well or what (laughs). It seemed like a really good idea. It's such a massive... you can delve into a huge catalogue there with the Priest stuff and the Dio stuff and Ronnie's back catalogue as well with Black Sabbath and Rainbow, and that's exactly what we're doing. It's gonna be a great night with some classic songs in there."In the full interview, Wright discusses how Metal Gods pays tribute to their former bands, the importance of having original members in the band, how the set list will be structured, containing his emotions when playing songs written and performed by now deceased former bandmates, his time with AC/DC, leaving them to join Dio and more.Intro track THE POOR 'Payback's A Bitch'
Episode 27 of season 5 aired on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 7 July 2022. The show kicked off with a live track from Volbeat called 'Maybellene I Hofteholder'. It was a nice way to start actually and it sort of set the tone for a mellow (by TSORR standards) beginning. From there we had a band called Austin Gold with the title track off their debut album Before Black Clouds. Next up California Breed, that's half of Black Country Communion, plus Ozzy Osbourne producer Andrew Watt. After that, we smashed some of that Southern Rock action with Blackfoot and Rhino Bucket. Rhino Bucket is out of California so while not strictly Southern Rock, you can hear the influences in the music. The track we played was 'Going Down Tonight'. We also had some of SA's own Jasper Dan which is a band I really dig. Danko Jones let off a bit of steam and offered up some good advice on what to do when people cross you. We also said farewell and RIP to Manny Charlton, guitarist and founder member of the beloved 70's juggernaut known by the name of Nazareth. 'Hair of the Dog' was a fitting tribute to a great guitarist and songwriter. Mannie was 80 so that's pretty good for rock and roll, well played sir. We listen to Queensrÿche and Rush, two giants of prog according to some, but I figure it's not prog because I really love it. Carlos Santana had a collapse on stage this week and was rushed to hospital, he's OK, a bit of dehydration (the dude is 74) so to wish him well (because he never misses TSORR lol) we played his version of 'Whole Lotta Love' feat. Chris Cornell. Overall it was a fairly balanced show, we were light on Aussie and German stuff and only managed 4 SA tracks, one of which is my latest discovery, a band out of Cape Town called Infanteria, check them out they are great. The classic '80s stuff came from Kiss, Dokken, and Dio and Asking Alexandria, Testament, and Amon Amarth brought the metal to the party. We ended super mellow with The Stranglers and 'Don't Bring Harry' and a beautiful track from Wonderboom called "Night Falls Like a Grand Piano'. I managed to tone down the doom and gloom a bit although we are still on Stage 5 load shedding in South Africa and it really affects the number of listeners that catch the show. This in turn affects the energy of the whole thing., see if you notice. Artists Featured: Volbeat, Austin Gold, California Breed, Blackfoot, Rhino Bucket, Danko Jones, Nazareth, Jasper Dan, Queensrÿche, Rush, Dio, Forbidden, Santana feat. Chris Cornell, The Dead Daisies, Stone Sour, Testament, The Police, Pixies, Foo fighters, Mastodon, Infanteria, Kiss, Dokken, Bad Company, Deep Purple, Steve Morse, Joe Bonamassa, Fall out Boy, My Chemical Romance, Asking Alexandria, Amon Amarth, Warlock, Pretenders, The Stranglers, Wonderboom.
Another fun episode of TSORR, this one went out on Rebel Rock Radio at 19h00 on 23 June 2022. It was episode 25 so we are nearly halfway through Season 5 already. Kicking off with Dee Snider and ‘Mask', and then Lita Ford with ‘The Mask' we symbolically said cheers to wearing masks in SA at last. Or until the next pandemic in 2060 but I don't think flu will be around by then anyway, or me for that matter. Moving on. We checked out Autograph with a very fresh sounding 2017 live version of ‘Turn Up The Radio' and then got down to business with some Megadeth, Saxon, and Guns 'n' Roses. The new Megadeth called The Sick, The Dying and the Dead is on pre-release but we took in a track off United Abominations called 'Washington is Next. The G 'n' Roses track came off Chinese Democracy, just for a change. To rebalance for a Guns 'n' Roses without Slash we played a track off his It's 5 'o Clock Somewhere album. There was a call for some metal so I played Asking Alexandria which was met with Oom-ish howls which a stated with Metallica's 'The Thing That Should Not Be'. More howls, so we got back to old-school metal in the form of ACDC and Rainbow. The world has changed a lot. Other than that we paid tribute to Clarens Clemons who died 11 years ago this week. 'Born to Run' did the honours there. We heard the obligatory Tom Petty track and some Marilyn Manson with 'New Model No 15' off Mechanical Animals. Rammstein hit us with 'Haifisch' which means shark in English and then we celebrated a historic victory in which the forces of good triumphed over the forces of evil at the CCMA, Slayer with 'Richard Hung Himself' marked that spot.No SA music in this episode!!! can't believe it, it just got too busy. Next week I promise. Other than that there were two good releases this week Machine Head with a track called 'Unhallowed' and In Flames with 'State of Slow Decay', heavy metal is alive and kicking ass. We went out quietly with Judas Priest's beautiful ballad titled 'Never Forget' which reminds us that they will keep going until they no longer can and that they will never forget the support from the fans, it's a bitter-sweet reminder of the fragility of it all. Tomm Waits closed the gate with 'Gun Street Girl' off raindogs. Artists featured: Dee Snider, Lita Ford, Kris Barras Band, Autograph, Bad Company, Megadeth, Praying Mantis, Rhino Bucket, Saxon, Dangerous Toys, Guns ‘n' Roses, Asking alexander, Metallica, ACDC, Rainbow, Slash's Snake Pit, Soil, Slayer, System of a Down, Soundgarden, Bush, The Jam, The Damned, Marilyn Manson, Rammstein, Windowpane, Skid Row, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen, Cold Chisel, Uriah Heep, Motörhead, Machine Head, In Flames, Judas Priest, Tom Waits

Terry Manning may not be a household name but he's had an incredible journey that started at the age of 13 when he sat in with Bobby Fuller at a Junior High Dance. From there he went to work at the legendary STAX RECORDS when he was just 15 years old! We couldn't possibly cover everything so some things we talk about in this hour and a half interview are : Bobby Fuller, Stevie Nicks, Stax Records, Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin III, NME magazine, Martin Luther King Jr., Chris Blackwell (founder of island records), Photography and more! It's an interview you have to hear to believe Terry's incredible stories. A man who seemed to be at the right place at the right time and more than once. ABOUT TERRY: Terry Manning is a music producer, songwriter, photographer, recording engineer and artist known for work in rock, rhythm and blues, and pop music genres. Manning began in the music industry in El Paso, Texas, where he played guitar and sang with several local bands, notably The Wild Ones, and on a couple of occasions sat in with his friend Bobby Fuller. Upon leaving El Paso, he moved to Memphis, Tennessee, where he worked for years at both Stax Records and Ardent Studios as an engineer and producer, recording and mixing such artists as Isaac Hayes, Ike & Tina Turner, Booker T. & The MG's, Eddie Floyd, Al Green, Rufus Thomas, Sam & Dave, Billy Eckstine, Otis Redding, The Boxtops, Percy Sledge, The Staple Singers, Johnnie Taylor, Leon Russell, Ronnie Milsap, and many others. Manning was a principal part of Stax owner Al Bell's production team for The Staple Singers, responsible for such hit records as “Respect Yourself,” “I'll Take You There,” and "Heavy Makes You Happy.” In 1970, Manning licensed release of his own solo album, Home Sweet Home, on Stax's Enterprise label (re-released with extra tracks by Sunbeam in 2006, and in original configuration on Four Men With Beards vinyl label in 2012). Later working as an independent, Manning produced or engineered recordings by Joe Cocker, Wattstax, Alex Chilton, Big Star, James Taylor, Leon Russell, Led Zeppelin, ZZ Top, Jason & The Scorchers, Rhino Bucket, George Thorogood and The Destroyers, Joe Walsh, Johnny Winter, The Rainmakers, The Fabulous Thunderbirds, Molly Hatchet, The Angels, Johnny Diesel and The Injectors, Lenny Kravitz, Jimmy Buffett, Shakira, Crash Test Dummies, Shania Twain, Bryan Adams, Widespread Panic, and many others. In the mid 1980s Manning moved to London, and worked for a year out of Abbey Road Studios. As a photographer, Manning began with black and white in the mid-1960s, capturing street scenes and topics of his interest. He has continued his photography to this day. Adding color photography to his repertoire in the1970s, Manning amassed a large collection of private works over the following years. With the beginning of Gallery and Museum presentations in 2015, Manning's photography is now being presented in Exhibitions across the US, as well as world locations. Musically, he also photographed Chuck Berry, Terry Reid, Steppenwolf, Janis Joplin, Jimi Hendrix, Dusty Springfield, Procol Harum and many other musical artists of the rock period as both an independent and as a writer/photographer for New Musical Express. Manning was one of the last to photograph his acquaintance, Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., on the day before the tragic assassination. 1991 saw him founding Lucas Engineering, a boutique audio company which makes professional audio recording gear; this company expanded in 2008, adding microphones to their arsenal of products. Lucas Microphones, under Manning's guidance, have since become amongst the top high end recording devices in the audio world. In 1992, Chris Blackwell of Island Records fame sought out Manning as a partner to revitalize Blackwell's famous Compass Point Studios in Nassau, Bahamas, which Manning operated successfully for over 20 years. Manning's newest music as an artist are the 2021 single "What's the Use", the ECR Music Group/Lucky Seven Records releases of Manning's newest (2019) live album “Playin' In Elvis' House,” 2015's “Heaven Knows,” an emotional look into human emotion, and “West Texas Skyline,” A Tribute To Bobby Fuller, released in October 2013. This week marks the 30th anniversary of Wayne's World! Not only was this movie spun off from the wildly popular sketches on Saturday Night Live, but Wayne's World was instrumental in reviving Queen's popularity with its iconic "Bohemian Rhapsody" sequence. It hit #1 on the Billboard charts for two straight weeks. It had video games, board games, halloween costumes, and even a roller coaster! But for as big a deal as Wayne's World was, the soundtrack kinda fumbles the ball. We've got Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody", naturally, but aside from the requisite Alice Cooper and Jimi Hendrix tracks, there's very little to recommend here. Tia Carrere gets to perform a couple of decent cover tunes, but that's about it. You wanna hear about Rhino Bucket? Or BulletBoys? Then this is the podcast for you. Party on! SHOW NOTES: Wayne's World is available to stream here! Wayne Campbell's first TV appearance Mike Myers in the film Bohemian Rhapsody MUSIC VIDEOS: "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen "Hot and Bothered" by Cinderella "Ballroom Blitz" by Tia Carrere "Feed My Frankenstein" by Alice Cooper Have a soundtrack you'd like us to cover? Episode 3 of Season 5 aired at 19h00 on 20 Jan 2022 on Rebel Rock Radio. We started with a nice little instrumental before diving into the strange waters of Legend of the Seagullmen and their song ' Rise of the Giant'. Following that we went back to 1989 and took a track off Badlands, a fantastic album released in 1987 by the band of the same name. That album was the first CD I ever bought, it is a seriously good album and belongs in every rock fans collection. This episode contained a higher percentage of the lesser-known bands than normal, I think it worked out pretty well. We took a heavy dose of what I would call Classic UK Punk; The Stranglers, Stiff Little Fingers, and Sex Pistols. It is interesting to reflect on just how things have changed. In the sanitised world of 2022these songs are even more incendiary than they were in 1977. Or, am I just getting old? The early stuff was covered by Uriah Heep and Jethro Tull, The newer stuff by Ayron Jones and Me and That Man. The heavy came from Venom and Architects. We raised the issue of Valiant Swart's fundraiser and efforts to raise some cash so that his wife Lanelle can get treatment for a seriously debilitating condition that will need some support to sort out. TSORR wishes Valiant well in this effort and supports the initiative. As usual, we ran out of time just as we really got going and Neil Young closed the show with a track called 'Canerican' of his new album Barn. Artists featured: Bewitcher, Legend of the Seagullmen, Badlands, Devil's Train, Buckcherry, Alter Bridge, Glenn Hughes, Rhino Bucket, Seether, Nirvana, Volbeat, Thin Lizzy, Uriah Heep, Jethro Tull, Architects, Motörhead, Skid Row, Guns ‘n' Roses, W.A.S.P. Coheed & Cambria, The Stranglers, Stiff Little Fingers, Sex Pistols, John Mellencamp, Kid Rock, Adrenaline Mob, Five Finger Death Punch, Pirates of Radio, Drowning pool, Ayron Jones. Great White, ACDC, Queensrÿche, Valiant Swart, Me & That Man, Kadavar, Venom, Warrant, Neal Young & Crazy Horse
Brian Forsythe is the guest on today's podcast. Brian is most know for his work in the bands KIX and RhinoBucket. Kix was formed in Maryland and rose to popularity in the early 1980's; signing their first record deal in 1981 with Atlantic Records. Throughout the 80's, KIX pumped out platinum records culminating with the hit 'Don't Close Your Eyes' off of the 1988 album Blow my Fuse. KIX reunited in 2003 and has been touring ever since and recently re-released third album, Midnite Dynamite. Hear Brian talk stories from the road, past and present, recording albums, and so much more. In this episode, Brian Forsythe of Kix talks about leaving the band in the early 90's, deciding to get clean and healthy after jail, being recognized, and the origin of the "Damage" nickname. Plus, getting back together with Kix, joining Rhino Bucket, playing cruises and what it means to be in a "legacy" band. For many musicians, separating themselves from their past is nearly impossible, especially when the past includes a successful career as a founding member of an 80's funk metal band like Bang Tango. The old hits and looks are almost inseparable from their current art, despite the clear differences and the years in between. Many become stuck in a limbo of who they were and who they want to be, but Mark Knight has only been spurred on by the challenges of what's in his rearview mirror and who he is now as an artist. In 2013's Road Sick Eyes, Knight smashed through the glass ceiling of his past and unabashedly displayed his frustration with his former image and triumphantly revealed himself to be a roots rock, Americana singer, songwriter, and guitarist to be reckoned with. Now, with the success of Road Sick Eyes, several other solo efforts and a divorce under his belt, two teenage daughters, and life being rebuilt in progress, Mark Knight finds Knight presenting an album; a unified collection of stories more daring and personal than ever before. All songs were composed solely by Knight, who also played most of the guitars, both acoustic and electric, on the record.Mark Knight is filled with wrenching solo acoustic songs and Knight's signature roots rockers featuring his longtime collaborators including Matt Abts of Gov't Mule and Planet of the Abts, Tony Marsico on bass, Mark Tremalgia (formerly of Bang Tango) on guitar, Reeve Downes of Rhino Bucket on bass and Tigg Ketler (formerly of Bang Tango) on drums. Mark Knight was produced by Tom Lavin, who also produced Road Sick Eyes, and recorded swiftly in a private studio in which “raw” remained the battle cry. Knight approached the record with a desire for rawness and simplicity, creating a gripping, unflinching account of his trials and tribulations. He doesn't cheat himself or his audience with the raw emotion, doubts, courage, and honesty he displays.“Since Road Sick Eyes, my life has changed dramatically and those personal challenges and triumphs naturally came out in the music,” says Knight. “I wanted to be honest with and about myself and uncompromising, even if I had to lay myself on the line.”Knight's time has come to grow into himself as a songwriter and musician, and in listening to Knight's growth, we also hear ourselves, reflect on the years and feel the innate desire to stretch out of our own skins.

A Hard Rock Band from the Oberland Region in Zurich been playing together as aband for 30 years, selling more than 6000 copies of their CD's, performing at over 400 concerts and never lost sight of their "Long Live Rock and Roll" vision. They are truely real and authentic and true to the core, they celebrate their music with their signature riffs, wonderful hooklines and killer vocals. As supporting act of SOTO (Scandinavien Tour), Molly Hatchet, DORO, Krokus, Jane, Don Dokken, Rhino Bucket and many other well-known established groups, they grew to learn at the feet of the masters, polishing their live act to soon become the talk of their peers and many fans. The band name stands for "All for one and one for all"; Three men and a woman - all focused on "one goal, one family, one band". Each band member is simultaneously me and the rest. It is clear for all in this 'family' that there is no place or room for egocentricity. They stand both close and true to the fountainhead of Rock music. Rock'n'Roll leaps instinctively from the guts of each member. Their love of the art form and its message clearly envelopes everyone that hears their music. The spirit of Rock feeds the audience as well as the band itself and is reflected in both their music and words. Driving anthemic riffs, bodies drenched in sweat, they live their lives for that hunger and that fire. That's what Rock'n'Roll truly is all about. Explicit permission has been granted by the artists to play their music --- Send in a voice message: https://anchor.fm/neil-clark10/message
Season 3 Episode 8 of The Story of Rock and Roll Radio Show aired at 7 pm on 8 October 2020. It was a particularly special episode due to the sad death of Edward Van Halen on 6 October 2020. Eddie was very special to me and to pretty much all my friends and acquaintances. The show was dedicated to him but it wasn't as much to showcase his work as to point out why Eddie was so special. So, in the spirit of that, we kicked off with the traditional Dr Who intro and went straight into Eruption. As I said the idea was to celebrate Eddie and rock and roll and not to get fucking morbid so we had some Judas Priest and Accept and then hit the new tracks. ACDC have a new release coming up and the first track ‘Shot in the Dark' was released yesterday at 12h00 so we played that and then the brand new Bruce Springsteen track called ‘Ghosts'. There was so much good stuff it's hard to know where to start, we had lesser-known bands like Rhino Bucket, The Answer and The Horrible Crowes, we had South African music from The Fismits, The Black Cat Bones, Pilgrim South, Piet Botha & Valiant Swart. We played a fair amount of blues with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, SA blues god Dan Patlansky and Stevie Ray Vaughan's version of Voodoo Chile. Punk was taken care of by The Professionals and Anti-Flag, Australia by Rose Tattoo, the heavy stuff by Sepultura. Another notable mention is the Brendon O'Brien remix of Pearl Jam's classic album Ten. It simply called Ten (Redux) and it's incredible, it just brings the guitars to life. We'll be playing everything off it in the next few weeks. We ended off pretty much-saying cheers to Eddie with ‘Little Dreamer' because that's what he did, he turned a world of young guitar urchins into little dreamers and because of him so many people really got stuck into this instrument. The show closed with the sobering sounds of Avenged Sevenfold with ‘Seize the Day', Ozzy's ‘Under the Graveyard' and finally cheers to Ed the way he would have wanted it, he would have wanted us to ‘Dance The Night Away'. Artists featured: Van Halen, Warrant, Piet Botha, Judas Priest, Accept, The Answer, Rhino Bucket, ACDC, Greta Van Fleet, The Michael Schenker Group, Dan Patlansky, Valiant Swart, Avenged Sevenfold, Faith No More, Q5, Seether, Pearl Jam, Peter Frampton, Anti-Flag, The Black Cat Bones, Alice In Chains, The Damned Things, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Y&T, Bruce Springsteen, The Horrible Crowes, Aerosmith, Guns ‘n' Roses, The Fismits, Ozzy Osbourne, The Professionals, Sepultura, Pilgrim South, Rose Tattoo & Therapy?

DBG VIP and Decibel Geek writer, Steven Michael, joins Chris and Aaron for Under the ACDC Influence; a deep dive into bands that were influenced by the Australian hard rock giants. Steve and the guys discuss their love for ACDC, the evidence of their influence on rock and roll history, and spin a bunch of tracks by a bunch of bands that were influenced by Angus Young and company. Many fads come and go, and with them so do many bands. What is the flavor of the week will soon be a punchline to a joke told decades later. ACDC never fell into that trap. Through numerous trends including Prog Rock, Punk Rock, Disco, New Wave, Glam Metal, and Grunge, the Australian-born legends stayed the course; continuing to pump out headbanging, hooky rock n roll. This consistency has produced an influence that has transcended multiple generations of fans. Under the ACDC Influence In this jam packed episode you'll get tracks from Jackyl, Four Horsemen, Voodoo Piston, Ugly Kid Joe, The Treatment, Rhino Bucket, Koritni, Black Aces, Airbourne, Dirty Looks, ACCEPT, Guns N Roses, Rose Tattoo, 77, and Krokus! Back in March of 2013, Decibel Geek writer Rich "Meister" Dillon attended the Monsters of Rock Cruise. But, his reporting on the events and artists of this tour-de-rock on the seas goes back further than that. Remembering how great a time he had on the 2012 Cruise, Meister started his "Views of the Cruise" series in advance, interviewing artists that would be aboard as well as giving previews of the bands playing. Of course, while on the cruise, Meister kept a diary and reported back to us at DBG headquarters. In all, the Views of the Cruise series swelled to 19 volumes! Aaron and Chris were so impressed with Rich's amazing documentation of the MOR Cruise that we wanted to give our listeners a first-hand account from Meister himself. So, Rich sent us his Monsters of Rock Cruise Top 20 Memories and we got him on the horn (ie. Skype) from Canada to recount his days of debauchery on the high seas. Below you will see the actual Top 20 that Meister sent us so you can read along with us as we recount his Monsters of Rock Cruise Memories. 20-The whole damn thing! 19-JSRG(Vixen)-The biggest pleasant surprise of the cruise. They were astoundingly awesome at the pre party show. I did not expect them to rock like that! Gina is an excellent guitar player and there was a decided absence of the keyboards that make the records kind of flaccid. Their pool stage set was the same although you could see they were tired (it was a 1am show). These girls kicked my ass! 18-The guy at the pool party who started at a $20 offer for my 20 year old Four Horsemen t-shirt and was up to $115 when his wife dragged him away. Talking to same guy at Saxon pool deck show, laughing about shirt I pass him a card and he stops and looks at me and says "are you The Meister? I've been following your blog!" Holy crap....lol 17-Helix-my fellow countrymen always put on a great show and they rocked the Zebra Lounge Set on the last day. 16-Keel-both of their shows aboard ship in the Theatre and Zebra Lounge. Awesome band live. Other performers often join the stage for Right to Rock-Zebra was Steve Riley and Lita Ford, theatre was Oz Fox, Brian Vollmer, Ted Poley and Jason McMaster. Many pics from all players too and autographed set list. 15-Making tons of new friends in the rock & roll party environment and meeting and chatting however briefly with performers like Jason McMaster, Share Ross, Nikki Blakk, Russ Dwarf, Brian, Kaleb and Fritz of Helix, Lorraine Lewis, Courtney Cox, Graham Bonnet, Nigel, Biff, Doug and Paul of Saxon, Dave Meniketti, Gina Stile, Georg and Brian of Rhino Bucket, Maz Mazza, Pat Fontaine and of course Ron, Dwain, Geno, Brian and Marc of Keel. 14-Alcatrazz-also a surprise. They were quite good both shows in the theatre and the Zebra. I would certainly go see them again if I had the opportunity. 13-TNT-their show in the theatre was surprisingly awesome. I was not sure what to expect and they were great. I caught a bit of their second set another day in the Zebra Lounge and they were not as good. Singer Tony Mills looked angry or drunk not sure. 12-My "in progress" sleeve tattoo-a guitar case with all my favourite band logos. Keel, Saxon, Russ Dwarf and Helix all took pictures of their logo and asked for pics when it's finished. Dave Meniketti looked unimpressed, but he was extremely drunk at the time. 11-Having the pleasure of introducing Dwain Miller (Keel drummer) to his hero, Nigel Glockler (Saxon drummer). A fun night drinking with Nigel and Biff and Doug of Saxon, Dave Meniketti, Ron, Geno and Dwain of Keel. Watching the two drummers chat and also watching Ron Keel interview Biff Byford for his radio show. 10-DangerousToys-closing the pool stage. Many are putting them up as the best show on the boat, incredible, yes but I think Saxon was better. I was distracted by beers and a young lady during this set however, so I may not have been paying full attention. 9-The Mojito Bar-on the top deck this is the spot to be late at night after all the performances as cruisers and performers alike drink until the wee hours, especially on the last night aboard ship. 8-Loudness-I only caught half to 3/4 of this show on the pool deck and I'm not a huge fan of their newer material, but they were unbelievably tight and Akira Takasaki's solos were blistering. They sounded awesome. Also a highlight-Akira Takasaki's hair! 7-Breasts-A young lady asking me to autograph her breasts before the first Saxon show. I don't know if she thought I was someone important, but I happily obliged. Also another young lady in a teal blue bathing suit exposing her magnificent breasts to a crowd of male onlookers during Cinderella and friends! 6-Y&T-their show the first night on the pool deck is something I have long looked forward to, tragically missing them last year. They were blistering and as their latest album says, Facemelting. Also leaning on front of stage for this show. 5-The AC/DC Beer Can Guy-this is a bit of nonsense, but still fun and a cool idea. AC/DC marketed a beer and this guy has started a FB page and is taking the empty AC/DC brand beer can to see the world. I met the can and had my pic with it. It has been as far as the south pole to date. 4-RhinoBucket-both of their shows in the small Zebra and Pigalle Lounges were flawless. Straight ahead rock, no gimmicks, call themselves "The last real rock & roll band". Got Forsythe pics and drumstick at Zebra show. 3-The island of Coco Cay-I'm not an overly "beach type" of guy, but this place was beautiful and quiet, private for our cruise ship. It was great to see stars like members of Helix, Keel, Queensryche, Wendy Dio, Loudness, Femme Fatale and others enjoying themselves on the beach. 2-Keel-riding in a limo with 3 of them to watch their rehearsal prior to cruising and singing a line of Speed Demon with Ron and later Right to Rock with Brian Jay. Totally incredible day! 1-Saxon-their show on the pool deck on Sunday-I was front row, leaning on the stage and lost my voice after that show. They were awesome, borderline erotic! The Police broke up due to internal differences in 1984 after the trio completed its last major tour. After that, they re-united briefly for a tour in support of Amnesty International in 1986, for lead singer Sting's 1992 wedding and once again in 2003 for the ceremony at which the three were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Then at Sunday night's Grammy show, when the Police performed the opening act with a well-received rendition of their Reggae-influenced classic hit "Roxanne." Some representatives of the band have been quoted in recent months as saying a reunion tour would be fabulously lucrative. Sting, the only one of the three to have enjoyed major success solo after the breakup, is 55, while guitarist Andy Summers is 64 and drummer Stewart Copeland 54.
