[1:01] The RIMS-CRMP is the only competency-based risk management credential. That matters because earning the certification shows employers and recruiters that you have the skills necessary to manage risk and create value for your organization. [1:17] Several Exam Prep virtual workshops are coming up. On March 19th and 20th, this two-day course will be presented with PARIMA. The next RIMS-CRMP-FED Exam Prep Virtual Workshop will be held from April 2nd through the 4th and led by Joe Mayo. Visit the certification page on RIMS.org for more information. A link is in these show notes. [1:47] If there is a full group of employees in your organization who should earn the RIMS-CRMP, visit RIMS.org/webinars and register for the complimentary webinar, How Deloitte Leveraged the RIMS-CRMP: A Fireside Chat. A link is on this episode's show notes. [2:06] We will have leaders from the RIMS-CRMP Commission as well as leaders from Deloitte, who will speak to why they supported several of their employees in earning the RIMS-CRMP. It will be a relaxed, informational session and a lot of fun. Mark your calendars for March 15th and register! [2:26] On March 20th at 9:00 a.m., Eastern, we have another informational session about Recertification: Keep Your RIMS-CRMP Active. I will be hosting that session, along with RIMS VP of Professional Development, Denise Osorio. If you have the CRMP and you don't want the credits to lapse, find out how to keep it active! The link is in the notes. [2:53] We are looking forward to RISKWORLD 2024 in sunny San Diego, California, from May 5th through May 8th, 2024. Public registration is open. Register today at RIMS.org/RISKWORLD and the link in this episode's show notes. Early registration rates are available through February 29th, 2024, brought to you by RIMS and leap year! [3:19] I'm so pleased to present an interview with our RISKWORLD 2024 Opening Keynote Speaker, Peter Diamandis. He's a successful entrepreneur several times over, a thought leader, and a New York Times best-selling author of four books, including Abundance: The Future is Better than You Think.  [3:39] Peter Diamandis was named by Fortune as one of the world's 50 great leaders. He is also the Founder and Executive Chairman of the XPrize Foundation, which leads the world in designing and operating large-scale incentive competitions. He is also the Executive Founder of Singularity University. [3:55] Peter Diamandis has a lot of experience with risk and risk professionals. He's going to be one of the standout opening keynote speakers in RISKWORLD history. We'll hear about his risk philosophy, what it will take for risk professionals to become organizational leaders, and a preview of his May 6th RISKWORLD 2024 Keynote. [4:19] Peter Diamandis, welcome to RIMScast! Peter has aerospace engineering, molecular genetics, and medical degrees from MIT and Harvard. He started numerous companies in the space world and the exponential technologies world. For the last decade, his focus has been on longevity, adding decades of health to a person's life. [5:33] Peter has written several books he's proud of, focused on optimism and abundance. Abundance: The Future is Better than You Think, Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth and Impact the World, The Future is Faster Than You Think, a few books on longevity, and exponential organizations. [5:59] Peter has a large venture fund, Bold Capital, which has six or seven hundred million dollars. He's investing heavily in AI and longevity. A lot of his work is helping people to change their mindset, which is one of the most important and relevant things we can talk about in the realm of risk. Peter asks you to consider your mindset. [6:31] Imagine the most extraordinary leader on the planet, whomever you consider that to be. Ask yourself what got them there. Was it the money they had, their friends, technology, or was it their mindset? Peter posits that their mindset is what enabled them to be such an extraordinary leader and success. [6:58] The next question is what mindset do you have, where does it come from, and what mindset do you need for the decade ahead in this period of extraordinary accelerating exponential change? [7:41] There are a multitude of risks on the horizon at all times. Pandemics have been and will continue to be a global risk. We have risks on that scale from asteroid impacts. We have risks that are mounting in the realm of AI. We have risks from manmade biological disruptions. [8:26] People don't take into account the accelerating countervailing forces. We live in a day when individuals can come up with new strategies and technologies to combat problems. Individuals can also cause problems. [9:20] Peter defines entrepreneurs as individuals who find juicy problems and solve them and the more entrepreneurs empowered with more powerful technologies, the more problems get knocked down. Then we are left with only first-world problems. [10:02] The fundamental problem is, humans have a hard time truly judging risk accurately. The amygdala scans all of our sensory data. If it sees something that's potentially dangerous, it puts you on “red alert.” It raises your blood pressure, narrows your pupils, and gets you ready for your fight-or-flight reaction. [10:58] We tend to be easily tipped into fight-or-flight even though the chances of real danger are orders of magnitude lower. Peter describes loss of life through the violence of warfare or crime, through time. People would think from the news that we are living in the most dangerous time in history but we are living in the most peaceful time in history. [11:46] The Middle Ages were disastrous. We romanticize the past. Today, your chance of dying from a violent act is minuscule compared to what it used to be. [12:05] RIMS plug time! RIMS Virtual Workshops: Visit RIMS.org/virtualworkshops to see the full calendar. On March 6th and 7th, our friend Elise Farnham hosts Applying and Integrating ERM. On March 12th and 13th, former RIMS president Chris Mandel hosts, Captives as an Alternate Risk Financing Technique. [12:31] Information about these workshops and others is on the RIMS Virtual Workshops page and a link to the full calendar is in this episode's notes. [12:39] On February 29th, Hub International sponsors Ready for Tomorrow: Protecting Your Profits in the Property Market. On March 7th, in celebration of International Women's Day, Origami Risk leads the session Women of Risk & Compliance: Leading & Learning One Step at a Time. [13:01] Visit RIMS.org/Webinars to learn more about these webinars and to register! Links are in the show notes. Webinar registration is complimentary for RIMS members. [13:14] Quick shout-out to our friends at the Spencer Educational Foundation, which funds the education of next-generation risk management and insurance talent. Spencer's scholarship program is open but coming to a close on March 1st for Ph.D. applicants. [13:29] Students and risk management and insurance faculty with interest can visit Spencered.org for additional details. [13:54] Leading risk managers who are data-driven decision-makers would make good organizational leaders. Peter believes that depending on the human “gut” is no longer viable. Gut feelings based on years of experience are irrelevant. What is important is what the data shows. [14:47] Peter states that risk managers who can gather the data, analyze it, and make data-driven decisions are going to be great leaders. [15:12] Storytelling is how we convey means and ideas. We evolved as humans to tell stories and receive stories around the campfire. As long as humans are involved in a decision process, which they will be less and less in the future, an emotional connection is going to sway an individual. Great stories connect you with individuals. [15:56] If you tell a great story and connect with a person emotionally, you can sway them pro or con, yes or no, on the decision that you want. So storytelling is fundamental. All day long, Peter seeks investments. Investments are selected by an investment committee that believes in the entrepreneur and the company and what they're doing. [16:33] When you're trying to raise money, it's super important to tell a great story about “Why me? Why this? And why now?” The data will sway at least equally, if not more but today, as flesh and blood, hearts and minds, storytelling is still critically important, whether you are selling or being sold. [17:23] Peter is the opening keynote speaker at RISKWORLD 2024 on Monday, May 6th in San Diego, California. Peter says the world of risk assessment, risk balancing, and risk-taking is more important than ever before. Peter's job is to tell stories to the audience to help them understand the role they have to play. [17:44] Doing anything big and bold in the world is risky. If we take the risk out of everything, then we're stuck, stagnant, and moving backward. There needs to be a way that entrepreneurs, companies, and even governments, can take risks that have the upside potential to transform society for the better. [18:14] Peter wants to infect people with the positivity of this increasing world of abundance. A key area Peter wants to hit is that the world is getting better; we need to take risks to transform insurance. Fire insurance should prevent fires. Health insurance should keep you healthy. Life insurance should keep you alive a lot longer. [19:17] The most exciting thing about all these exponential technologies is the reinventing of business models. How do we reinvent business models not only to financially protect against the risk but also to use technology to remove the risk, if at all possible, and change the way we think about all these areas? [20:06] Peter loves Q&A. The more questions, the better. He wants to make several points. First, he wants people to see the data that the world has been improving at an extraordinary rate in terms of increased access to food, water, healthcare, and education; with reduced child mortality rates, maternal mortality rates, and violence. [20:41] When you look at the numbers, they're awesome. The question becomes … why is the world getting better on all these different dimensions? … It's not that we're getting smarter or that we have better politicians; it's the impact of technology. Peter wants to share that to begin. The next point is to talk about what's going on in the meta trends. [21:03] Meta trends are the forces that are heading our way and changing everything. The meta trend in energy is from whale oil 100 years ago to fusion energy in the near term; looking at reinventing transport with flying cars and autonomous cars; and humanoid robots coming. [21:23] Looking at longevity and the ability to add 10 to 30 healthy years to your life, and how that will impact society. Where we are with AI today and where it's going; what are the challenges? How do we think about these challenges? Everything we've ever known is about to change. [22:01] Artificial intelligence, in its current use and capabilities and how fast it's evolving, and where it's going needs to be a conversation in your board room, at your dinner table, and with your children, everywhere! [22:28] Peter's parting words: “I think the world of risk is about to be transformed and it's going to be transformed by exponential technologies, sensors, networks, AI, robotics, all of these areas; AR, VR, and blockchain, and I want to show you what's possible today and where these technologies are taking us in the next two to five years. It's awesome!” [22:49] “It's an amazing time to be alive and I think that business models, companies, and the future of the entire risk industry are going to be refined and transformed. So that's our conversation; I'm looking forward to it!” [23:07] Thank you so much, Peter Diamandis! Looking forward to seeing you! [23:11] Special thanks to Peter Diamandis for joining us and giving us a preview of his RISKWORLD 2024 Keynote which will be on Monday, May 6th. Peter has had a long and storied career, starting over 20 companies in the areas of longevity, space, venture capital and education since he graduated MIT in the early ‘80s and subsequently completing his Doctor of Medicine studies at Harvard Medical School. Peter's entrepreneurial spirit, fascination with space travel and thirst to innovate are central to his core business philosophy and approach of “exponential thinking”. He advocates that technology and innovation progress exponentially and that disruptive technologies and entrepreneurial approaches can solve humanity's most significant challenges and create a future of abundance. Peter is focused on the idea of leveraging technology and market forces to drive positive change and encourages individuals, business owners and budding entrepreneurs to think big, take risks, and embrace failure as an essential part of the learning process. In the mid ‘90s, Peter founded the XPRIZE Foundation, a non-profit organisation with the goal of bringing about radical breakthroughs for the benefit of humanity through incentivised competitions. The foundation gained global attention with its first competition, the Ansari XPRIZE, which resulted in the flight of SpaceShipOne in 2004, firmly establishing the viability of private space travel. In 2008, Peter co-founded the Singularity University, a benefit corporation that aims to educate, inspire and empower leaders to apply exponential technologies to address humanity's grand challenges. Peter also oversees Human Longevity Inc., Futureloop, Bold Capital Partners and Celularity among many others, in a diverse and wide ranging portfolio of businesses. As an author, Peter has teamed up with former London Real guest Steven Kotler to write the bestsellers “Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Think“, “Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth, and Impact the World“ and “The Future Is Faster Than You Think“. He has also worked with Tony Robbins to pen the powerful and transformative book, “Life Force”. His most recent project is “Exponential Organisations 2.0: The New Playbook for 10x Growth & Impact”, which Peter has co-authored with Salim Ismail and is a deep dive into how organisations can achieve exponential growth and impact by leveraging technology, innovation, and creativity. Peter believes the future belongs to those who can harness the power of exponential technologies and innovate at a very high pace, and those businesses that collaborate, embrace AI and all it brings will see huge success. As for the rest… well they'll get left behind. To underline just how significant the technological change that's coming is, and the unquantifiable impact it will have on our everyday lives, Peter explains that we'll experience more progress in the next decade up to 2033 than we've seen in the past century from 1923. Peter says the convergence of exponentially growing technologies, especially artificial intelligence, will reinvent every business model and accelerate the global pace of change. This is going to be a fascinating conversation and I can't wait to explore the ways Peter is looking to leverage AI and a whole host of metatrends that are going to shape the next decade. Peter is a really knowledgeable guy, incredibly successful, and fiercely passionate. He is also unwaveringly optimistic and cares deeply about the future of humanity and the planet. “We are witnessing a new breed of organisation that is scaling and generating value at a pace never before seen in business. It's important to understand why this is happening and how unprecedented this shift is.” Don't miss this one, especially if you want to learn about how our future world will look and more importantly how to prepare and profit from this technological revolution. The most important story for you to understand, right now in 2023, and moving forward, is THE EXPONENTIAL STORY. The meaning of that statement has everything to do with dinosaurs. The dinosaur was king of the Cretaceous Period of planet Earth. That was few years ago. 66 million years to be exact. It was a very hot humid world; most land was submerged under massive oceans. Can you guess how many years the dinos dominated the earth? If you guessed 100 million years, you are BINGO, correct! With that kind of staying power, you'd think Dino Dino would be around forever. Oops! An asteroid suddenly appears in the sky. This is one mother of a flying fragment. 10 km wide! Just slightly smaller than San Francisco. This extraterrestrial intruder decides to land in the Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico. Not a gentle landing. It explodes with a blast that releases 2 million times more energy than the largest nuclear bomb ever exploded. This is literally a killer landing.Megatsunamis, earthquakes, firestorms, and volcanic eruptions swallow the Earth. The sun disappears behind a huge dust cloud and peeps its rays out only 10 years later. That dramatic fanfare was King Dino's last stand. It was bye-bye Dino, and hello nimble resilient Homo Sapiens. Your ancestors and mine became the new kings of the Earth. Throw a party whydonchya, we're still in charge. Really? You probably guessed it. The party is about to end. Correction. The party has ended, but most of the guests don't know it. And unless they wake up right away, they will join the dinosaurs in extinction. The new asteroid has already struck our world. It's called Exponential Technology. Hey, don't believe me. Go directly to the source of the information I'm sharing. You can take a deep fascinating dive into the subject in a factual book that reads like a great adventure novel. The title is Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth, and Impact the World, by Peter Diamandis and Steven Kotler. This book is not just an eye-opener. It's an alarm call to the 21st century. It's also a playbook for the openminded to reinvent themselves and experience levels of abundance and wealth that they haven't even dreamed about yet.Bold is a call to action for you to write a new story and live into it.If you only take one thing from this podcast today, let it be this. Developing an exponential mindset is not an option if you want live with dignity, joy, wealth, and freedom. Yes, wealth is an integral part of the formula. The book will challenge you to explore different paths to physical, spiritual, and financial wealth. It will reveal how exponential thinking affects every part of your life and the lives of those you care for.One area that should get your immediate attention is the way you earn money. Most people struggle with money because they are married to linear earning models. What's a linear earning model. The most obvious and prevalent is what we call a job. Working for an hourly wage or a salary, even a lucrative one is still a linear approach to earning money. What's wrong with that? It puts a ceiling on what you can earn as you trade your limited time (we all have just 24 hours each day) for money.I will come back to the battle between linear and exponential thinking in future podcasts. In fact every episode I create will touch on this most important story of the 21st century - The Exponential Story.Understand it, embrace it, and let it change your story and change your life. Or, ignore it and be caught like a deer in the headlights when this happens. (EXPLOSION)I'm Louis Di Bianco, your host and guide, and fellow storyteller.

For over 25 years, XPRIZE has convened the brightest minds from around the globe to tackle the world’s greatest challenges. In this exciting episode with XPRIZE Founder and Executive Chairman, Peter H. Diamandis, Tony talks about the inspiration behind the latest competition, $15M XPRIZE Feed the Next Billion. By 2050, Earth’s population will have reached 9.7 billion. The demand for high protein products is increasing while the impact from current meat production practices is devastating our planet. The COVID-19 pandemic has worsened food insecurity, food safety, and access for many communities around the world. Furthermore, cities projected to face rapid population growth and wealth increase are experiencing surges in demand for poultry and fish as opposed to red meat. While there is increasing activity in utilizing plant-based and cultivated approaches to create meat alternatives, more work is needed to make it widespread. XPRIZE Feed the Next Billion is a $15M competition incentivizing teams to produce chicken and fish alternatives that replicate or outperform conventional protein in structure, versatility, sensory properties, and nutritional profile, while having a lower comparable environmental footprint. Tony has made it one of his life's missions to help feed as many people as possible. His family struggled to put food on the table growing up, and it was one stranger’s kindness that inspired Tony to give back as an adult. As a philanthropist, through his partnership with Feeding America, Tony has provided over 500 million meals in the last 5 years to those in need. He’s on track to provide 1 billion meals over the next 5 years. He has also initiated programs in more than 1,500 schools, 700 prisons, and 50,000 service organizations and shelters.  He provides fresh water to 250,000 people a day in India in order to fight waterborne diseases, the number one killer of children in that country.  Recently named by Fortune as one of the “World’s 50 Greatest Leaders,” Peter H. He earned degrees in molecular genetics and aerospace engineering from the MIT and holds an M.D. from Harvard Medical School. Diamandis’ favorite saying is “the best way to predict the future is to create it yourself.”Kim Stanley Robinson is an American novelist, widely recognized as one of the foremost living writers of science fiction. Robinson began publishing novels in 1984. His work has been described as "humanist science fiction" and "literary science fiction". Robinson himself has been a proud defender and advocate of science fiction as a genre, which he regards as one of the most powerful of all literary forms.Robinson was born in Waukegan, Illinois, but moved to Orange County, California, when he was two. As a child he loved to play in the orange groves stretching out for miles around his home, so when suburban sprawl began to encroach and the groves were torn out and paved over, the rapid change of modern life hit close to home. It was not until college in 1971 that he would stumble upon new wave science fiction and find in it an expression of that very sense of rapid change that had made such an impression upon him growing up, at which point he knew almost immediately that he would be committed to science fiction from then on. He enrolled at the University of California-San Diego (UCSD) in 1970 and received his B.A. in Literature in 1974. During that time he developed the idea to write a trio of books exploring three different alternative future histories in which southern California had gone down different paths, what became the Orange County trilogy. After briefly leaving California to receive an M.A. in English at Boston University in 1975, Robinson returned to UCSD to complete his Ph.D. Though science fiction was something of a "literary ghetto culture" in the academic world, Robinson could not have had a more sympathetic advisor in Fredric Jameson, who suggested that Robinson do his thesis on the works of Philip K. Dick, whom Robinson was not particularly familiar with at the time but whom Jameson regarded as the greatest living American novelist. Robinson agreed to the idea and finished his Ph.D. in 1982, a revised version of which was published in 1984 as The Novels Of Philip K. Dick. In 1978 Robinson took a break from his Ph.D. work and moved north to Davis, California, where he worked in a bookstore and spent a lot of time outdoors, especially backpacking in the mountains, where he continued to develop his love for landscape and the outdoors. While in Davis he met Lisa Howland Nowell, an environmental chemist, and in 1982 upon completing his Ph.D. he returned to Davis and the two were married. He taught freshman composition among other courses at UC Davis, another autobiographical tidbit that would be bestowed upon his fictional alter-ego Jim in 1988's The Gold Coast. Then a few years later, after publishing his first few novels, his wife's post-doctoral work in environmental toxicology took the couple to Switzerland, where they lived for two years, and at which point he began to write full time. Her work also took them to Washington, D.C., and during their four years there Robinson was a stay-at-home parent to their first son while his wife worked. Finally, in 1991 they moved back to Davis to buy a house in Village Homes -- a planned community that shares many things in common with the community depicted in his 1990 novel Pacific Edge -- where their second son was born. Robinson is still the stay-at-home parent, giving him plenty of time to write, while his wife continues to work full time as a chemist. As a result, much of the couple's social circle is made up of her friends and colleagues, giving Robinson ample material with which to write about scientists. As can be gathered from above, Robinson enjoys inserting personal life experiences or autobiographical elements in his works. For example:Robinson enjoys mountaineering greatly, which can be seen in landscape descriptions and trekking trips in nearly all his works. His stay in Switzerland is a likely inspiration for frequent references to Swiss government and people (Green Mars, Fifty Degrees Below). He has visited Greece and enjoys the architecture of the Greek islands (The Gold Coast, Blue Mars). He likes softball, referenced in Icehenge and Pacific Edge, and plays the frisbee golf described in Fifty Degrees Below. At times he is a stay-at-home dad, like Charlie Quibler in the Science In The Capital trilogy. He is a Californian teacher, like characters in The Gold Coast and The Years Of Rice And Salt.Links: https://www.kimstanleyrobinson.info See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

His roles as inventor and advocate are intertwined—his own passion for technology and its practical uses has driven his personal determination to spread the word about technology's virtues and by so doing to change the culture of the United States. As an inventor, he holds more than 440 U.S. and foreign patents, many of them for innovative medical devices that have expanded the frontiers of health care worldwide. While still a college undergraduate, he invented the first wearable infusion pump, which rapidly gained acceptance from such diverse medical specialties as oncology, neonatology, and endocrinology. In 1976, he founded his first medical device company, AutoSyringe, Inc., to manufacture and market the pumps. Then, working with leading diabetes researchers, Dean pioneered the design and adoption of the first portable insulin pump. It was quickly demonstrated that using a pump could much more effectively control patients’ blood glucose levels. . At age 30, he sold AutoSyringe to Baxter Healthcare Corporation. Following the sale of AutoSyringe, Inc., he founded DEKA Research & Development Corporation to develop internally generated inventions as well as to provide research and development for major corporate clients. Kamen led DEKA's development of the HomeChoiceTM peritoneal dialysis system for Baxter International Inc. The HomeChoiceTM system allows patients to be dialyzed in the privacy and comfort of their home and quickly became the worldwide market leader. Kamen also led the development of technology to improve slide preparation for the CYTYC (now Hologic Inc.) ThinPrep® Pap Test. Kamen-led DEKA teams have also developed critical components of the UVARTM XTSTM System, an extracorporeal photophereisis device marketed by Therakos, a unit of Johnson & Johnson, for treatment of T-Cell lymphoma. Other notable developments include the HydroflexTM surgical irrigation pump for C.R. Bard, the CrownTM stent, an improvement to the original Palmaz-Schatz stent, for Johnson & Johnson, the iBOTTM mobility device, and the Segway® Human Transporter.Kamen has received many awards for his efforts. Notably, Kamen was awarded the National Medal of Technology in 2000. Presented by President Clinton, this award was in recognition for inventions that have advanced medical care worldwide, and for innovative and imaginative leadership in awakening America to the excitement of science and technology. Kamen was elected a member of the National Academy of Engineering in 1997. He was awarded the Lemelson-MIT Prize in 2002, and was inducted into the National Inventors Hall of Fame in May 2005. He is a Fellow of the American Institute for Medical & Biological Engineering, as well as many other national and international engineering organizations. In 2010, Dean hosted the Planet Green television series Dean of Invention. In addition to DEKA, one of Dean's proudest accomplishments is founding FIRST® (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), an organization dedicated to motivating the next generation to understand, use and enjoy science and technology. Founded in 1989, this year FIRST® will serve more than 1,000,000 young people, ages 6 to 18, in more than 86 countries around the globe. One of my goals of this podcast is to bring people with alternative views. I won't deny this motive being mainly selfish. I want to learn and grow from alternative view. I grew up viewing technology and efficiency as better ways for humans to live. I saw them as ways to decrease our impact on nature.I've changed, as my podcast episodes distinguishing raising efficiency from decreasing total waste, to working on values. Most of the world, especially Silicon Valley, seems to think even more the way I used to. I read Steven Kotler and Peter Diamandas's upcoming book, The Future is Faster Than You Think, wondering what to expect. It's part of their Exponential Technology series that includes Abundance: The Future Is Better Than You Think and Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth, and Impact the World. I read them as pro-technology. My goal with guests is to listen and support so I can learn, and I hope you do too.I'm glad to have spoken with Steven. Before we started recording he told me some of his past interest in the environment. Understanding those views changed how I understood the book, so he repeated it in the conversation you're about to hear. The book is subtitled How Converging Technologies Are Transforming Business, Industries, and Our Lives. It compiles andexamines basically all the big transformations technology is about to create or is creating---Quantum Computing, AI, Networks, Sensors, Robotics, 3d printing, VR/AR, Blockchain, nanotech, and so on. If you've heard or read about them but haven't researched or reflected enough to digest and see how they'll affect you and us, read Steven's book.Steven and Peter researched, reflected, and wrote about them all and projected how they will affect us. They talked to the people at the forefront of these technologies and institutions behind them. The book covers far more than a short conversation does, but this conversation covers what the book doesn't: where Steven is coming from. These things exist and are happening, he points out. We haven't put many technology genies back in the bottle. If you want to know what's coming and what it means, listen and read. You can probably tell I love learning what Steven's book shares. I'd heard about all these technologies and their exponential rates of change. How they combine and reinforce echoes Geoffrey West's research, but Geoffrey talked high-level theory. Steven talks on-the-ground detail.Things are happening, better learn them. I don't see them as inevitable. I'd hope the people developing them would consider more the unintended side effects that have plagued technological advances, like the green revolution or, say, how ride sharing has led to the opposite of expectations of lower miles driven or congestion. The Future is Faster Than You ThinkGeoffrey West's conversations on this podcast See acast.com/privacy for privacy and opt-out information.

Beautiful women with laser boobs. If you asked me "What's Playboy's future," that would've been my guess. But then I spoke to Steven Kotler. I asked him, "When are we going to start 3D printing houses and cars?" This was 7 or 8 months ago. But I was too late. China 3-D printed ten homes in two days. And they were cheap. $5,000 a home. Then they 3-D printed a mansion. And a five-story apartment complex. The future is rich in possibility. "We're here," Steven said. "It is really really real." "Today, for the very first time in history, pretty much anyone can have a global impact," Steven said on today's podcast. So I asked him, "If I'm sitting in my cubicle or I'm driving to work and I'm listening to this, how can I improve my life?" He told me about a woman in her 30s who graduated from Harvard, lived with her parents and couldn't get a job. So she disrupted the $256 million a year cosmetics industry. She combined a standard inkjet carton with a 3-D printer. With bio-degradable ink, she can print any type of makeup in any color. Then Steven told me how we're colonizing space. "One of the reasons we're not in space yet is because it costs $10,000 a pound to get something out of Earth's gravity well. It's really expensive. We need to be able to print in space." "My next book," Steven said, "not the one I'm writing now, but the one after that will be about the 4 enormous exoduses that are happening in this century. One is in virtual reality. Another is gonna be in space." "What's the other two?" "One is gonna be climate change migrations." "Meaning we're leaving earth?" "I don't think we're leaving Earth." "What's the fourth exodus? "I actually think the fourth is into our own subconscious... in our own mind," he said." He called them "interior states of consciousness" or "inner-space." Steven wrote some of my favorite books, including "Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth and Impact the World," which is also byPeter Diamandis, the Chairman and CEO of the X PRIZE Foundation. Bill Clinton said it's, "A visionary roadmap for people who believe they can change the world." Steven also wrote Tomorrowland, which shows you all the ways science fiction is coming to life. Summary: Welcome to the eighty first episode of the Prosperity Podcast! Join best-selling author Kim Butler and host Todd Strobel as the talk about the concepts of double line investing and triple wins in finance. The best investments are investments where both the buyer (or the investor) and the seller (or the borrower) have opportunities to grow and make more money. This is called a double line investment. The coiner of this term, Peter Diamandis, just published a new book Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth, and Impact the World, where he elaborates on this concept. Kim Butler and Todd Strobel also explain what a triple win investment is, a very similar concept, except in this case, it's important that both the buyer, the seller, and the community as a whole (which could be a global community!) win too. If you would like the opportunity for us to answer your question on the show or to be a guest on our show, be sure to keep sending us questions and reach out to us!   Show Notes: [00:00] Intro [00:34] Double Line Investing & The Triple Win [03:07] Examples of Investments That Benefit Everyone [07:07] More About the Double Bottom Line [10:27] Passion & Investments [12:38] Outro

How can you go about finding your path and doing what you love? Perhaps it is not by working harder, but instead you should do what you love even if you see no path to money. In 18 Minutes  author Peter Bregman explains that we often find something new when we stop looking so hard. Think about it. Do you know someone who wanted to get married, but only found a spouse when they gave up? What about that guy looking for the perfect job who spent hours per day looking and only found the job when he relaxed? We often find the result we are looking for when we stop pushing for the what and enjoy the now. What am I saying? Stop trying so hard. Have fun. Do what you love even if you see no path to money. Today I will interview the person who found his path by just doing what he loved. Something I love - My Reading List Click to Listen Finding your path and doing what you love I met Jeff Brown at a conference. He is a fellow podcaster who does Read to Lead. In this interview you will hear his story of getting fired, doing something for fun, and finding a career in his joy. Yes, he is the example of someone who demonstrates "finding your path and doing what you love." You may be a reader more than a listener, but today I think you need to listen as well as read. Jeff will share with us... His path from career to entrepreneurship Why you should start something just for FUN Why you should always be looking for ways to serve others And of course, why you should Read to Lead. Jeff quit reading after college (Gee -anyone who is reading textbooks is bound to be turned off from reading!) but started again when he picked up a book by Seth Godin. [Tweet "Happiness: Finding your path and doing what you love."] What am I Reading Jeff's guiding principle is "Leaders are Readers." I have found this to be VERY true. When I meet people or speak to groups, I often ask what they are reading. The entrepreneurs and executives always have a massive reading list and push me to Amazon to make some quick buys of the books they recommend. They also jump on the books I mention that they have not read. [Tweet "Leaders are Readers"] However, those who are not the leaders (just doing a job and getting by) often tell me they do not read. "I quit reading after college." Here are the books I am reading now: Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth and Impact the World - Anyone in the world of technology REALLY needs to read this. 18 Minutes: Find Your Focus, Master Distraction, and Get the Right Things Done - Clarity - what else can I say. Tactics: A Game Plan for Discussing Your Christian Convictions - While I started reading this about issues of faith, it is really helpful in seeing how to discuss topics with people who just like to argue without reason. The Entrepreneur's Trap: How to Stop Working Too Much, Take Back Your Time and Enjoy Life - Great for even the NON-Entrepreneur How to Become a Reader If you are not a reader and want to start, here are some simple steps. Check out my reading list for the new Entrepreneur (If you are not an entrepreneur, forget the title. The books still apply and I can tell you later why I think you are an entrepreneur.) Remember, audible counts. You can download the apps to your phone and have a book on the go. I often add books to my READING LIST. I prefer books with short chapters and basic points - so my reading usually will fit anyone. Listen to someone who reviews books. Hmmm - perhaps the Read to Lead podcast by Jeff. Learn to skim. Dr. Peter Diamandis has been named one of “The World’s 50 Greatest Leaders" by Fortune Magazine. You asked for an entire episode with him, so here it is! The subject is simple: How to think big, and how to use the key strategies of Peter's friends and investors, including Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos, Richard Branson, and Larry Page. How do they create maximum leverage? How do they think differently? We explore all of this.SHOW NOTES and other links should be available shortly here. In the field of innovation, Diamandis is Chairman and CEO of the X PRIZE Foundation. Among many other things, Diamandis is also the Co-Founder (along with Craig Venter and Bob Hariri) of Human Longevity Inc. (HLI); and Co-Founder of Planetary Resources, a company designing spacecraft to mine asteroids for precious materials (seriously). If I could ask one person to write one book, it would Peter and his new tome, Bold: How to Go Big, Create Wealth, and Impact the World. In fact, I have been asking him for years, and now it has arrived. The back cover also gave me serious blurb envy. Check out these testimonials from Bill Clinton, Eric Schmidt, and Ray Kurzweil.
