Innovate without needing to update your legacy tech stack. FinovateEurope Best of Show winner Tweezr explains how. Detailed episode description: In this episode, Greg sits down with FinovateEurope Best of Show winner Tweezr to learn more about their innovative approach to maintaining and modifying complex legacy systems. Co-founders Ohad Kotler and Lior Vernia created Tweezr to help financial institutions modernize without replacing their core systems. By enabling developers to make precise code changes without breaking critical functionality, Tweezr saves time and makes legacy systems more maintainable. The co-founders share their experiences working with banks and the significant challenges posed by outdated technology, emphasizing that the inability to swiftly update core systems hinders digital transformation efforts. The discussion also highlights the severe bottlenecks legacy systems create for banks, making even simple modifications a lengthy and costly process. Tweezr acts as a guiding tool (rather than an automated coding system), helping developers navigate millions of lines of code efficiently. It identifies necessary modifications, warns of potential breakages, and significantly reduces the time required to implement changes. By doing so, Tweezr empowers financial institutions to innovate without being bogged down by their outdated infrastructure. Tweezr's AI-driven approach focuses on bridging the maintainability gap, allowing banks to continue using their legacy systems without full-scale modernization. Instead of replacing core banking software—a process that can take years—banks can use Tweezrr to optimize and maintain their existing technology stack. The AI functions as a senior engineer, analyzing dependencies and guiding developers to implement safe, effective changes. This ability to enhance legacy systems without a full overhaul is what resonated strongly with FinovateEurope's audience. The now-infamous (somewhat) personal Zoom Q&A state senator Elena Parent (D) and one of her constituents - Lena Kotler - got a lot of attention because of but a few minutes of the dialogue. Like most people, I heard it and focused just on that portion because of the mushy messaging Senator Parent exhibited with regards to the rights of the imprisoned who are trans. It's a party problem more than a "Parent problem," dating as far back as last summer. That's when Trump campaign attack ads tied former VP Kamala Harris to the existence of the right for trans prisoners to have gender reassignment surgeries using taxpayer dollars. Neither Harris nor did any Democrat(s) codify that right; it's a "Constitutional" thing, and that's the shortest, simplest response no one on the business end of the attack has embraced. Nonetheless, there's WAY more to that "Elena Parent v trans mom" conversation, and the senator deserves it to be heard. Frankly, Kotler was completely out-of-line, over-the-top and belligerent to an unruly degree. Her tone, tenure and language to Parent was beyond reproach and warrants an apology, but who apologizes anymore, right? I'm honestly stuneed Senator Parent stayed on the call as long as she did, and she's to be commended for that. Take a listen for yourself and tell me what you think.

On this episode of Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different, we look back on a fascinating deep dive with renowned author and peak performance expert Steven Kotler. The conversation centers around Kotler's book, "The Art of Impossible," which explores the intricate relationship between motivation, neurobiology, and the pursuit of extraordinary achievements. This episode will break down the key insights to help you harness your potential and achieve remarkable results. You're listening to Christopher Lochhead: Follow Your Different. We are the real dialogue podcast for people with a different mind. So get your mind in a different place, and hey ho, let's go. Understanding Intrinsic Motivation Steven Kotler begins by unpacking the concept of intrinsic motivation, which he identifies as a crucial driver for human performance. He highlights five key elements: Curiosity, Passion, Purpose, Autonomy, and Mastery. These components not only fuel our desire to excel but also enhance our focus and engagement in activities. Kotler emphasizes that these intrinsic motivators are hardwired into our biology, suggesting that when we align our actions with these motivators, we can achieve remarkable results with less effort. Kotler illustrates this point by referencing the neurochemicals involved in passion and love, particularly dopamine and norepinephrine. He recalls the intense focus and attention one experiences when falling in love, noting that this heightened state of awareness comes effortlessly. This natural inclination towards passion and engagement, he argues, is a testament to our biological design, which favors extraordinary achievements. The Consequences of Not Going Big A striking assertion made by Kotler is that not striving for greatness can have detrimental effects on our well-being. He argues that human beings are inherently wired for extraordinary accomplishments, and failing to pursue big goals can lead to negative outcomes. This perspective challenges conventional views on motivation and success, suggesting that complacency can be harmful. Kotler points out that many of the issues plaguing modern society, such as depression and anxiety, can be linked to a lack of meaningful work and engagement. He identifies eight major causes of depression, two of which—genetics and severe trauma—are often highlighted. However, he emphasizes that these factors account for less than half of the equation. The remaining causes are rooted in our biology and motivation, particularly the absence of work that aligns with our values, passions, and the opportunity for mastery. The Importance of Meaningful Work One of the most significant insights from Kotler's discussion is the idea that meaningful work is essential for mental health and fulfillment. He explains that when individuals engage in work that lacks curiosity, passion, or autonomy, they are more likely to experience feelings of emptiness and depression. This lack of alignment with intrinsic motivators can lead to a sense of stagnation and dissatisfaction. Kotler argues that the modern workforce often overlooks the importance of these intrinsic motivators, leading to widespread disengagement. He stresses that when people are not allowed to pursue their passions or develop their skills, they miss out on the flow state—a mental state of complete immersion and focus that is crucial for peak performance. Avevo preso in giro l'algoritmo? When was the last time you were in a flow state? As we enter this final stretch before Thanksgiving, I want to share some insights inspired by The Art of Impossible by Steven Kotler. Kotler explores how to harness our biology to enter "flow"—that highly focused, energized state where we lose track of time. At this busy time of year, it's a great opportunity to use our strengths to achieve flow more often. Think about strengths as your natural gateway to flow. For example, if Learner is in your top strengths, you may find flow in skill acquisition. If Competition ranks high for you, you might feel in flow in high-stakes situations or by setting up small, daily challenges. This week, I encourage you to reflect on a recent flow experience: when was the last time you lost track of time, and what strength were you using? Identifying these moments can help you create intentional, strength-based pathways to flow every day. To find out more about my work, please visit Dana Williams Consulting. We're closer than ever to being able to upload our minds and become “digitally immortal.” But should we? What if our minds could live after our bodies have died? What if mortality became obsolete? Steven Kotler, award-winning journalist and executive director of the Flow Research Collective, has studied these seemingly sci-fi ideas, and it turns out that they're not so fictional, after all. In fact, mind-uploading technology is expected to be available as early as 2045. “Digital immortality” would have its upsides; we could preserve the minds of modern geniuses and have their guidance through future conflicts. Or, alternatively, things could get dark, as we have never before interfered with such complex evolutionary processes. Kotler explains that the ability to store human personalities and consciousness on computers poses profound ethical and societal questions. By developing and using this mind-uploading technology, we are simultaneously redefining what it means to be a human being, pushing the boundary between life, death, and whatever is in between. It seems, whether we're ready or not, that it is going to happen soon. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ❍ About The Well ❍ Do we inhabit a multiverse? Do we have free will? What is love? Is evolution directional? There are no simple answers to life's biggest questions, and that's why they're the questions occupying the world's brightest minds. So what do they think? How is the power of science advancing understanding? How are philosophers and theologians tackling these fascinating questions? Let's dive into The Well.

Unlocking Excellence: Read to Lead Better, Learn to Grow Faster In this episode, Joe and T.J. introduce two books that they know will make the difference in your life as a leader. Kotler's book is about operating in a state of flow for improved focus and productivity. Who couldn't benefit from learning more about flow and how we can get into a flow state? Murphy's book is basically a “how-to” on management. Very practical with specific suggestions to improve your skills. There are also some ideas and thoughts that will challenge your current thinking about managing people. The author is clear that many management principles simply don't work. Why Joe and T.J. Recommend The Art of Impossible by Steven Kotler and What Makes Great Managers Great by Curtiss Murphy T.J. kicks off by explaining that when we don't believe something or can't imagine accomplishing it, we are limiting ourselves. We can't do what we don't think is possible. He reminds us of Roger Bannister breaking the 4-minute mile barrier, which seemed like an impossible feat. In fact, scientists deemed it physically impossible for humans to do. T.J. tells listeners how the book moves through the key concepts of peak performance: motivation, learning, creativity, and flow. One major feature that makes this book a critical read for leaders is that it has research and data, along with various stories, to back up the assertions that the author makes. T.J. calls The Art of Impossible his favorite book of 2023. Bold statement! Joe starts by letting the audience know that What Makes Great Managers Great has stories that accompany the management principles being described. This is a great feature because too often when reading books that are designed to improve our skill set, we don't necessarily understand the full context. This book's table of contents is organized so that you understand precisely what management principle is going to be covered. One principle that really resonated and challenged Joe was to assume confusion is everywhere. Listen to Murphy describe that himself on our podcast episode with him. Another great facet of this book is the focus on the power of praise. Similar to what we've described in the past, this book emphasizes the need for the praise to be specific and focused. T.J.'s Reading Tip: Set specific reading goals, which are essentially learning goals. Along with your goal, develop a list of books that you want to read. Don't leave your reading habit and growth to chance. Too many of us finish books and don't start another one right away. With your list in hand, that won't ever happen again. Let us know what you're reading by contacting us at contact@theschoolhouse302.com. And don't miss our leadership newsletter every week by subscribing on the site. We can't wait to hear from you. Today's guest was name-dropped in an earlier episode. Name-dropped? By whom? Well, her husband Marty of course! He came on the show and told us how they met so we will now get her version of the events! She was interviewed for Club Med by Kenton Smith and her first season was at the opening of Club Med Sandpiper in 1986 as a Baby Club G.O. She also worked at Punta Cana and Ixtapa and was a Mini Club and Aerobics G.O. and this is my favorite part, despite never having worked with kids or taught Aerobics!! While working in the Baby Club, she was a “Puree Food G.O.” and she is here to tell us all what the heck that was! Please help me welcome, from California, Katherine Kotler Glassman! Before Club Med, Katherine attended California State University, Northridge, and was living and working in Switzerland (that's another story!). Her mother suggested she apply to Club Med, and she did. Katherine takes us through what it was like opening the resort of Sandpiper in 1986 (including a hurricane)! Although Katherine met her future husband Marty in Club Med Punta Cana and unlike most G.O. couples who were “in couple” in the village, they were not an item until they left Club Med many years later. We talk about all of Katherine's seasons, and we also talk about life after Club Med. Katherine attended culinary school and opened her bake shop called “Sticky Fingers” which she owned and operated for twelve years in Ventura, California. If you were a mid to late 80s G.O., then this episode is for you. Please enjoy! **My First Season podcast has always been ad-free and free to listen to and is available to download on: Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Samsung Podcasts, Podbean App, Podchaser, Spotify, Amazon Music/Audible, TuneIn + Alexa, iHeartRadio, PlayerFM, Pandora and Listen Notes. Gratitude is your golden ticket to this awesome state. It nudges our focus from the downers to the uppers in life, setting the stage for us to dive deep into whatever we're doing with a big, positive splash.2. **Flipping the Script**: Gratitude's like this cool lens that turns "I don't have enough" into "Wow, look at all the good stuff I've got!" Kotler is big on this mindset shift. It's all about counting our blessings, which pumps up our optimism, satisfaction, and yep, you guessed it, happiness.3. **Cooling Down the Stress Meter**: Stress and anxiety can be party poopers, right? The Bacon Podcast with Brian Basilico | CURE Your Sales & Marketing with Ideas That Make It SIZZLE!
I'm currently listening to an audiobook Marketing 5.0 by Philip Kotler. It's part of a series that I have been following (3.0, 4.0). 5.0 explores marketing in the post-pandemic world. 4.0 was the explosion of virtual technologies caused by remote work, social distancing, and more. Kotler believes our new Digital World has evolved with traditional marketing techniques taking giant leaps in technology and adaptation. In Marketing 5.0, he says that our new marketing paradigm includes human-mimicking technologies like artificial intelligence, augmented reality, natural language processing, robotics, sensors, virtual reality, and blockchain. It has also evolved IOT (the Internet of Things). The book also includes chapters on Prosperity Polarization, the Digital Divide, and Generational Marketing. This solidified my belief that Marketing 5.0 and the IOT are just a mix of new tools, technology, and techniques to reach a complex IOP (Internet of People). I think it's time to do a reality check. When it comes to B2b marketing, I believe that relationships are the key to success. One of my Baconisms is "Businesses do not do business with other Businesses... People do business with People!" You simply can't outsource or automate relationships, but you can track and manage them. It's easy to capture basic data, but compiling quality, current, and relative data is needed to help nurture budding or existing relationships. You may find that some AI tools can be useful or helpful to your unique business and situations but, as Philip Kotler said in 'Marketing 5.0', it takes people and a solid marketing strategy to make any system ultimately work for you. “Some people worry that artificial intelligence will make us feel inferior, but then, anybody in his right mind should have an inferiority complex every time he looks at a flower.” – Alan Kay In this episode, we will explore 6 mini-systems we use to integrate AI & humans with Marketing . In this episode, Joe interviews one of the world's leading experts on human performance: New York Times bestselling author and Executive Director of the Flow Research Collective, Steven Kotler. Kotler's work explores the neurobiology of peak human performance, flow states, and aging, and the concept of getting our biology to work for us rather than against us in our later years, by using the parts of our brains that expand in our 50s, combined with neuroplasticity, learning by play, and the biggest factor: working toward a very difficult - but not impossible - task. His 30-year exploration of the neurobiology behind people accomplishing 'impossible' feats led him to test his theories by teaching himself to park ski at 53 with resounding success, then using his protocol with people up to 70 years old the next season. The story is told in his newest book about challenging tired concepts of aging, "Gnar Country." He discusses the power of flow states and how much flow actually amplifies productivity, motivation, wisdom, empathy, and more; why dynamic motion is a key activity for greater longevity and why skiing and similar action sports are some of the best examples; why dynamic activity in novel environments is even better; why changing one's mindset may be the biggest factor toward change; why corporations are looking at flow training and where these concepts could go in the future; and of course, how this all relates to psychedelics. Steven Kotler believes that middle-aged adults are better learners than kids, and he has the Ivy League studies to back it up.In this episode, we had the pleasure of speaking with Kotler, the bestselling author of Gnar Country: Growing Ould, Staying Rad, and a true expert in the field of peak performance and human potential. In Gnar Country, Kotler explores the world of extreme sports and the science behind what drives these athletes to push themselves to their limits. But what's really interesting is how this knowledge can be applied to all of us, no matter our pursuits.During our conversation, Kotler introduced the concept of "dynamic deliberate play," which involves taking on new challenges and exploring the unknown with a sense of curiosity and creativity. He also talked about how this kind of play can lead to a state of "flow," which is when we're completely absorbed in the activity we're engaged in and time seems to fly by.Kotler also discussed the idea of "peak performance aging," which is the notion that we can continue to improve and achieve our goals well into our later years. He shared the latest research on how our brains and bodies age, and how we can use this knowledge to stay healthy, happy, and productive as we get older. Kotler's compiled research suggests that 'cognitive superpowers' exist which aren't neurologically available to younger humans, but there are four conditions required in order to tap into those abilities:By age 30: Solve the crisis of identity.Be age 40: Create a tight-knit match between your identity and your principal activity.By age 50: Exhibit forgiveness and empathy for yourself and others. In your 50s: Regularly engage in challenging and creative activities. We covered a lot of ground in this interview, from the science of flow to the keys to achieving your goals, and everything in between. So, whether you're an athlete, a professional, or just someone who wants to live your best life, you won't want to miss this conversation with Steven Kotler.
