As someone who is dyslexic, writing has always felt both vulnerable and empowering. I share the fears I faced, the rejections I endured, the moments I lost trust in myself—and how I ultimately found the courage to keep going. I hope this episode inspires you to continue to pursue your creative endeavours. I hope the book inspires you to keep caring for yourself in holistic ways. What if death isn't the end, but a sacred transition filled with profound experiences? In this chapter of our Good Death Seminar Series titled "The 3 Most Common End-of-Life Phenomena Reported Worldwide: Is There Something More?", we explore the mysteries surrounding end-of-life phenomena, drawing from decades of experience in hospice and oncology care. As we unpack the three most common end-of-life events, such as the surge of energy and visions of loved ones, we aim to reshape the conversation around death, transforming it from one of fear to one of understanding and acceptance. Join us as we share heartfelt stories of patients who have experienced remarkable moments at the end of their life journey. From Patricia's sudden clarity and joy in her final hours to children who speak of spiritual visitors, these narratives reveal the deep connections and transitions that occur during this sacred time. Through these experiences, we challenge the notion of dying alone, highlighting the shared nature of these phenomena and the comfort they bring to both the dying and their loved ones. Together, we'll discuss how to create a nurturing environment for those nearing the end of life, emphasizing the importance of presence, silence, and respect. Whether you're a caregiver, family member, or curious soul, this episode offers a compassionate lens on life's final chapter, encouraging openness and heart-centered conversations. Machine learning is transforming scientific research across disciplines, but many scientists remain skeptical about using approaches that focus on prediction over causal understanding. That's why we are excited to have Christoph Molnar return to the podcast with Timo Freibusleben. They are co-authors of "Supervised Machine Learning for Science: How to Stop Worrying and Love your Black Box." We will talk about the perceived problems with automation in certain sciences and find out how scientists can use machine learning without losing scientific accuracy.• Different scientific disciplines have varying goals beyond prediction, including control, explanation, and reasoning about phenomena• Traditional scientific approaches build models from simple to complex, while machine learning often starts with complex models• Scientists worry about using ML due to lack of interpretability and causal understanding• ML can both integrate domain knowledge and test existing scientific hypotheses• "Shortcut learning" occurs when models find predictive patterns that aren't meaningful• Machine learning adoption varies widely across scientific fields• Ecology and medical imaging have embraced ML, while other fields remain cautious• Future directions include ML potentially discovering scientific laws humans can understand• Researchers should view machine learning as another tool in their scientific toolkitStay tuned! In part 2, we'll shift the discussion with Christoph and Timo to talk about putting these concepts into practice. What did you think? Host Jeremy C. Park talks with Juan Bendaña, a globally recognized keynote speaker, author, entrepreneur, and Confidence Coach to top CEO's, Olympians, actors, and peak performers, who shares his journey and insights on building confidence and highlights his new book, "Confident by Choice." Juan was the keynote speaker at the cityCURRENT signature speaker series event in Nashville, Tennessee, on March 21, 2025. During the interview, Juan introduces the concept of The Confidence Cycle and emphasizes that confidence is a choice influenced by both skill set and self-esteem. Juan reflects on his recent cityCURRENT presentation and experience at the event, then highlights his new book "Confident by Choice," offering a key takeaway focused on the importance of energy and challenging one's beliefs in developing confidence.Juan's Journey to Confidence Coaching Juan shares his journey from being a young entrepreneur to becoming a confidence coach. He discusses his struggles with building confidence and his realization that confidence is a crucial step before leadership. Juan explains that confidence comes down to one's belief in their own ability and is influenced by both skill set and self-esteem. He introduces the concept of The Confidence Cycle, a framework for building confidence in various areas of life.Building Confidence Through Self-Image Juan discusses the concept of confidence, emphasizing that it is not solely based on one's ability or competence, but also on self-esteem and self-image. He suggests that people often underestimate their own capabilities and need to change their self-image to build confidence. Jeremy asks Juan about the questions he asks during initial consultations with clients, to which Juan responds that he focuses on understanding their beliefs about themselves, the world, and their respective fields noting "We will never outperform our self-image."Challenging Beliefs for Boosted Confidence Juan discusses the importance of challenging one's beliefs to boost confidence and motivation. He shares an example of a CEO who struggled to motivate his team, attributing it to his own beliefs about their capabilities. Juan emphasizes the need to question one's beliefs and not adopt them blindly, using the example of a group being perceived as low energy. He encourages everyone to reflect on their beliefs about life, business, relationships, and other aspects, as these shape one's confidence and narrative.Juan's Signature Breakfast and Book Journey Juan shares his positive experience as the keynote speaker at the cityCURRENT signature breakfast in Nashville, highlighting the unique combination of high-performing individuals and those with a strong desire to serve others. He emphasizes the importance of both growth and service in achieving success. He explained that "people meet your energy before they meet you," and that energy is the first step in The Confidence Cycle. Juan stresses that confidence is a choice and not something one is born with, and that it can be generated by finding the energy to deploy in one's life for their goals. He also highlights the need to avoid being affected by others' low energy levels and to show up fully engaged and present.Juan Bendaña's Book Release and Collaboration Juan Bendaña discusses the upcoming release of his book "Confident by Choice" on August 5th. Send us a textI am so pleased to be back recording the podcast, thank you for your continued support. I am pleased to have returning guest Patrick Ussher join me on this episode. Patrick Ussher has had ME/CFS for 7 years. He has written a book ‘Understanding ME/CFS & Strategies for Healing'. which is now available as an audible, ebook or paperback copy. Click on the link below to find out more. In the book he communicates some of the latest, most exciting ME/CFS research as well as strategies he has used to improve his quality of life. The book is laid out with a broad audience in mind, inclusive of those living with ME/CFS and Long covid, their families and/or carers and medical professionals. It contains links to the relevant research and chapter summaries which are really helpful. In this episode of the podcast we discuss his book and go into more detail around the section of the book covering (PEM) post exertional malaise, and the research findings of Professor Klaus Wirth and Professor Carmen Scheibenbogen. This is an interesting conversation with light bulb moments. We discuss how PEM is a nemesis for so many living with these conditions, and what the research findings suggest is happening at cellular level. We touch on pacing in the absence of medical treatment and how important, although extremely challenging pacing is to avoid PEM. Patrick, talks about mitodicure, a potential medication to treat patients with post exertional malaise. This is in its infancy, in terms of requiring funding and clinical trials, more information is available via the link in the show notes.
