The Neoliberal Round Podcast by Renaldo McKenzieEpisode Script: “Faith, Film, and the Future Featuring Abria Jackson”Creator/Host: Renaldo C. McKenzie[Intro]Hello everyone, and welcome to another episode of The Neoliberal Round Podcast. I'm your host, Rev. Renaldo McKenzie.Today, I'm honored to sit with the dynamic, ever-charming, and deeply talented Abria Jackson—an actress, mentor, and graduate student whose career and calling blend art, faith, and service.Abria recently starred in Night of Violence, which opened at the prestigious FrightFest in the UK. She traveled to London with her mother to witness the premiere, and we'll talk about that powerful experience. We'll also dive into her work on Law & Order: Organized Crime, her inspirations from Viola Davis and Halle Berry, her mentoring of young women, and her pursuit of a master's degree in Clinical and Counseling Psychology.[Segment 1 – The UK Premiere]Renaldo: What was it like, sitting in that London theater with your mom, watching your film open FrightFest?Abria: “It was very emotional. My father passed away a couple of years ago, and he was so supportive of my dream. Knowing my mom was in the audience reminded me that I have people who love me and support me. I also felt like my dad was there, watching from heaven. My mom was cheering, even when no one else was, and people around her were cracking up—it was unforgettable.”Renaldo: What did it mean personally to have her there?Abria: “It felt full circle. God was reminding me to keep going, that I'm on the right path. The fact that my mom was alive and present for that moment—it meant everything.”[Segment 2 – Acting as Healing]Renaldo: You mentioned Catwoman, a Black rock star, and Tanya from Mortal Kombat as dream roles. Why those?Abria: “All three connect directly to my childhood. They'd heal my inner child. Acting was more than entertainment—it was spiritual. Growing up, life wasn't always glitter and rainbows. Acting gave me an outlet, and now keeping that inner child alive helps me bring truth to every role.”[Segment 3 – Balancing Faith, Career, and Self-Care]Renaldo: How do you balance school, career, and everything else?Abria: “I'm very intentional with my time. I write everything in my planner and make sure I hit my goals. But I also remind myself that you can't pour from an empty cup. Self-care matters. For me, that's $5 Tuesdays at the movies—it's my reset.”Renaldo: And your faith?Abria: “Faith keeps me going. My mom once bought a name meaning that said Aabria means faith. That's my story. When auditions don't come, when money's tight—faith carries me.”[Segment 4 – Mentorship & Psychology]Renaldo: Beyond acting, you're also co-leading a mentorship group for teen girls and pursuing a master's in counseling. What inspired that?Abria: “Even in high school, people would come up to me and share their lives. It felt like a gift God placed in me. Now I want to perfect that gift—get licensed, gain knowledge, and help people in ways that blend spirituality and service.”[Segment 5 – Vision & Legacy]Renaldo: Looking ahead, what legacy do you want to build?Abria: “When God calls me home, I want people to say my life was an act of faith. Of course, I want roles that move people. But more than that, I want to be remembered as someone who served—who gave advice, helped people, and carried them through. What profits a person to gain the world but lose their soul? Character and service—that's the legacy I want.”[Closing]Abria Jackson is more than an actress—she is a storyteller, a servant, and a woman of faith. From Philly to London, from film sets to mentorship circles, her journey reminds us that art and service can walk hand in hand. You can follow Abria on Instagram at @itsabriajackson and on TikTok under her name. And stay tuned for her upcoming TV series Losing My Pride, expected in 2026.Thank you for listening to The Neoliberal Round Podcast. Until next time—walk good.

Buckle up, Undressed-anistas, because this episode is a full runway of drama, laughs, fashion tea, and mystical revelations! Pol' and Patrik are back inside their Beverly Hills boutique with the fabulous Gogo Lomo-David (Righteous Gemstones, Shameless), and things get spicy fast. We kick off with Hot Topics — and no one is safe. From the shocking story of Lil Nas X allegedly arrested in Hollywood to the headline-grabbing relationship twists of JoJo Siwa, our hosts dive headfirst into fame's darker side. Gogo opens up about resisting Hollywood's vices, sharing how his Nigerian father and grounded upbringing keep him focused. The trio get candid about the dangers of “yes-men” in showbiz, the heartbreak of watching Anna Nicole Smithspiral after tragedy, and why goals and community are the ultimate antidote to self-destruction. But it doesn't stop there — the infamous Menendez Brothers parole denial sparks a raw debate on justice, forgiveness, and responsibility. From true crime to pop culture, the conversation swerves to Taylor Swift's jaw-dropping 12th album, “Life of a Showgirl”. Gogo calls it: another era-defining set of hits from the global superstar who built an empire on heartbreak and reinvention. Then comes Runway Rundown, where fashion meets fire. Pol' and Patrik pull up red carpet looks for Gogo to critique — and he doesn't hold back. From Luke Combs' ill-fitting Tweedledee vibes to Sydney Sweeney's dreamy ivory bustier dress (with a questionable headband), Danny McBride's off-shade suit, and Walton Goggins' risk-taking silk chemise moment, every celebrity look gets dissected. And when Chrissy Teigen struts in a daring mesh bustier gown with feathered mermaid skirt, it's Catwoman chic meets couture controversy. Even Gogo's own velvet tuxedo Emmy look and his playful pink jacket ensemble are up for critique — bow ties, microfiber jackets, and all. Next, it's game time with “Holy or Humbug” — a laugh-out-loud quiz where Gogo must guess whether outrageous televangelist scandals happened in real life or on Righteous Gemstones. Did Baby Billy abandon his kid at a gas station? Did a Texas church offer drive-through confessions during COVID? Did Joel Osteen really lock church doors during a hurricane? Holy or Humbug? You'll be screaming along as Gogo battles tricky wordplay and reveals behind-the-scenes tea. Finally, we land in the mystical with Pol's signature Armenian coffee reading — and it's pure destiny. In Gogo's cup, Pol' sees a butterfly, symbolizing transformation and fleeting beauty, and delivers a powerful message: a major relationship shift is on the horizon. This isn't casual—it's commitment-or-nothing, a love story written in the grounds. Vulnerability, healing, and fate collide as Gogo reflects on love, fear, and opening his heart again. By the end, he admits he feels “beautifully naked — emotionally, mentally, and physically.” From fashion critiques sharper than tweezers, to celebrity confessions, to mystical readings that could change the course of love, this episode has it ALL. Whether you're here for Taylor Swift, Anna Nicole Smith, Lil Nas X, Sydney Sweeney, Chrissy Teigen, or just Gogo's infectious energy, you'll walk away laughing, gasping, and maybe even believing in coffee-ground destiny.

This episode first appeared in 2024, and here's what I had to say... There's one question that gets asked in this week's episode that's really stuck with me and that I continued to ponder even after we'd said our goodbyes and turned our microphones off...And that question is: how do you know when you have become the person that you're supposed to be?By that I mean - at what point do you say 'yes this is the person I was supposed to be' rather than continue to strive and figure that out? Or, do you just kind of like make do with who you presently are and accept that that might change one day?And it's one of those annoying questions where there probably isn't an answer, so it's not worth expending any energy trying to figure it out, but if you have any suggestions do let me know! But for now, let's focus on our guest for this week's episode, Amethysta Herrick, writer and host of the Gender Identity Weekly podcast.Amethysta came out as a trans woman in 2022, but if you've ever come out then you know that it takes a lot of mental computation and processing to get to that point and it's usually something that you know about a long time before you're willing to share it with the wider world. But luckily for us we have queer spaces where it's safe to explore these things. And, one of the places that helped Amethysta explore and understand her identity was the Athens, Georgia bar Boneshakers, where, way back in the 90s, she got to try out an alternate identity - she named herself Selina after Catwoman's civilian name - and just got to flirt, hang out, and exist as herself.

Hello, People of the Wasteland. My name is Dave, Store Manager of Apocalypse Video, and I would like to read you the following statement I have prepared: “After the utter failure of our recent summer film fest, which featured the likes of Catwoman and Madame Web, I admit that my decision to create a whole summer of programming based purely on spite was ill conceived and wrong. I accept all responsibility for the pain and anguish that came along with everyone in the wasteland having to watch these terrible films in order to follow along with our corresponding podcast reviews. I hope that you will one day forgive me, and as a gesture of what I hope will lead to my eventual redemption, I would like to announce that this month's programming will officially be known as “Dave's Apology Tour”; a series of reviews based on movies and shows that people actually enjoy - and not things like the live action Aeon Flux. And with that, I hope you enjoy the first entry in my Apology Tour, 1999's box office smash: The Mummy.” I'm your host who's skating on thin ice, Dave, and joining me as we kick off a batch of watchable movies for a change are fellow cinephiles and crypt robbers Mike, Jackie, and Ryan. Topics of discussion in this episode include the famed “Summer of ‘99” (aka: the year of dual wielding pistols and CG bugs entering people's bodies); we talk about the decades long journey to bring The Mummy to screen, which included the likes of Joe Dante and Clive Barker; and finally, we talk about the Mummy's place in a crowded summer dominated by The Matrix and Star Wars: Episode One - The Phantom Menace. In 1980, she began appearing in horror and science fiction films, including The Fog (1980), Escape from New York (1981), Creepshow (1982), and Swamp Thing (1982). Her mother was of Armenian descent and her father's ancestry was French Canadian, Irish, and German. She has a sister, Jocelyn, and a half brother on her father's side, Robert Barbeau, who still resides in the Sacramento area. She attended Del Mar High School in San Jose, California. After graduating in 1963, she enrolled at Foothill College in Los Altos Hills, California, but dropped out at age 19 to participate in a USO Tour with the San Jose Light Opera. In her autobiography, Barbeau says that she first caught the show business bug while entertaining troops at army bases throughout Southeast Asia, touring with the San Jose Civic Light Opera. In the late 1960s, Barbeau moved to New York City and worked "for the mob"as a go-go dancer. She made her Broadway debut in the chorus of Fiddler on the Roof and later took the role of Hodel, Tevye's daughter; Bette Midler played her character's sister Tzeitel. She left Fiddler in 1971 to play the leading role of Cookie Kovac in the off-Broadway nudie musical Stag Movie. Barbeau, as Cookie Kovac, and Brad Sullivan, as Rip Cord, were "quite jolly and deserve to be congratulated on the lack of embarrassment they show when, on occasion, they have to wander around stark naked. They may not be sexy but they certainly keep cheerful," wrote The New York Times theater critic Clive Barnes in an otherwise negative review. Barbeau went on to star in more than 25 musicals and plays, including Women Behind Bars, The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, and Grease. She received a Theater World Award and a 1972 Tony Award nomination for her portrayal of tough-girl Rizzo in Grease. Welcome back to Not a Bomb! This is the podcast where we claw into cinema's biggest box office cat-astrophes and decide if they deserve a second life. We're feline pretty proud to be celebrating five years of batting around cinematic flops (the cat puns are just beginning, folks)! The Catwoman episode from Not A Bomb sounds like a glorious descent into the litter box of superhero cinema. Directed by Pitof (yes, just Pitof), this 2004 disaster ditched DC's iconic Selina Kyle for a leather-clad, basketball-playing Halle Berry—who somehow went from Oscar royalty to dodging CGI cats and shampoo-fueled villainy in under two hours. The film couldn't use Batman, Gotham, or any recognizable lore, and yet it still managed to purr its way into infamy. But leave it to Not A Bomb to find the silver whisker in the furball. With Jose from Watch Skip Plus bringing his signature energy, Troy suffering existential dread, and Brad unleashing a barrage of feline puns, this episode promises to be a riot. Halle Berry is an Oscar winner, Catwoman is a beloved comic book icon, and Sharon Stone is the perfect villain. It would be tough to screw this movie up, but lo and behold! Jason, June and Paul welcome Jamie Denbo (Kevin Can F**k Himself, Grey's Anatomy) to discuss the 2004 superhero flop Catwoman. Despite the occasional girl power messages and sometimes amusing witticisms, it revealed itself to be a poorly scripted, oddly dated mess. Send us a textToday we're doing the impossible task of ranking every book in the entire Sarah J. MAAS averse, including Throne of Glass, A Court of Thorns and Roses, Crescent City, and the lesser known standalone book and DC collaboration, Catwoman. That's SEVENTEEN books that are all 4+ stars that we pick apart with a fine-toothed comb to come up with one winner, and unfortunately, one at the bottom of the barrel. What's fun about this episode is that it's full of SJM spoilers and possible connections, if you've read them all and you're just here for the tea. It's also interesting to see how much our rankings have possibly changed over the years, and after doing rereads, buddy reads, and multiple podcast conversations. Our choices might just surprise you! Jace and Rocky are back with the DC Comics weekly spotlight. It's a great week in Jace's opinion, but Rocky was less impressed. Absolute Batman make both top five lists with an incredbile origin for Absolute Bane, Absolute Flash also impresses with it's best issue in quite awhile. Jace also thought that Carwoman has it's best issue of the current run, though Rocky remains disconnected with the story which is more of an ensemble than a Catwoman-centric story. New Gods continues to build and the invasion of Earth doesn't feel far off. We have two canine focused stories, Krypto and the lead feature in Detective Comics #1100th issue and Jace ranked them very highly. The other co-features in Detective were also excellent as was the debut issue of Justice League Red, Wonder Woman stays just as divisive as ever with a big chunk of the episode breakign down Tom King's writing style and why so many people may like or dislike it. There are a lot more titles and a lot more opinions in this episode so join us for all the details!

On this episode of Word Balloon, we're talking with the legendary Beau Smith — a true cowboy of comics. From creating the cult favorite Wynonna Earp to seeing it ride high as a hit TV series, Beau's journey is as action-packed as his stories. We dig into the roots of Wynonna, and how he's now teaming up with the show's stars Melanie Scrofano and Tim Rozon to bring new adventures to the page. But that's just the start. Beau shares his unfiltered thoughts on the new Superman movie, and why he thinks the portrayal of Guy Gardner may be the most accurate DC Comics adaptation to date — especially considering he wrote the book on Guy. We also hit the DC vaults to revisit Beau's time writing Catwoman, Wildcat, and other unsung gems that show his knack for tough characters with heart. If you love straight-talking creators and behind-the-scenes insight from someone who's lived it, this is a conversation you don't want to miss.
