NEW AVENGERS VOL. 1 #2  ‘Breakout' Part 2 Release Date December 29, 2004 Cover Date February, 2005 Writer(s) Brian Michael Bendis Penciler(s) David Finch Inker(s) Danny Miki Mark Morales Colorist(s) Frank D'Armata Letterer(s) Richard Starkings Albert Deschesne Editor(s) Tom Brevoort Nicole Wiley Molly Lazer   SCORES: Seren - 4/5, Rey - 4/5 Torn Carnages Remember - To Know Her Is To Fear Her! Enjoy! SYNOPSIS (courtesy of Wiki): Another explosion rocks the Raft and Captain America and Spider-Man watch Electro and his client flee the scene. Seeing that there is no way to catch them, Spider-Man does the next best thing and jumps towards the hole to help people, despite the Captain's warnings to let the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents take point. Spider-Man should have listened to Cap, for instead of people looking for help, he found himself face-to-face with scores of super-villains. Dogpiled by the baddies, his mask gets ripped off and his arm gets broken by Jigsaw. Meanwhile, on the bottom level of the Raft, Matt Murdock is trying to get the Sentry to assist them in escaping when they and the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents are attacked by Carnage. Murdock tosses Foggy Nelson into the Sentry's cell and closes the door, warning him not to open it, no matter what. Murdock, Luke Cage and Jessica Drew fight Carnage until another villain comes out to join the fight: Murdock's old nemesis, Mr. Hyde. On the surface, Spider-Man is being pummeled by dozens of super-villains when Captain America breaks them up and leads a group of S.H.I.E.L.D. agents into the fray. Trapped inside a lightless cell, Foggy manages to convince the Sentry to help. Emerging from his cell, The Sentry grabs Carnage and flies at top speed straight through eight floors of the facility and out into the stratosphere, all the way to outer space. Once there, he proceeds to act as judge, jury and executioner to Cletus Kasady and tears Carnage in half. Cage takes care of Mr. Hyde and Drew tries to fly them out of the exit the Sentry made when Hydro-Man starts drowning them. They get to the surface to join Captain America and Spider-Man in the free-for-all. One of the villains (Ironclad) grabs Cap and throws him high into the sky where he's caught by Iron Man. Cage is confronted by The Purple Man who tells him to kill the other heroes, then himself. VENOM BLASTS (things to look out for in episode)!! The Marvel Obsession continues Brand new Theme music! Eternals (2021)Chloe Zhao directs this ambitious and visually stunning film from the Marvel Universe. The immortals have been living here on earth since 5000 BC shaping our destiny and fighting the Deviants who have returned even bigger and better than before. Benedetta (2021)Paul Verhoeven Directs this fascinating study of Benedetta Carlini, an early 17th century nun who had a scandalous relationship with another nun, seemed to have visions, channeled a male saint and was favoured by the Virgin Mary. This is a true story, very graphic but really worth it.Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)The charismatic and humorous Eddie Brock is back again trying to share a body with the hilarious symbiote Venom. This time he becomes entwined with the serial killer Cletus Kasady played by Woody Harrelson. Soooo… Let the carnage begin! The Last Duel (2021)A historical drama directed by Ridley Scott that really didn't get its due. Starring Matt Damon, Adam Driver and Jodie Comer, this film is set in medieval France and based on the last jousting duel officiated by the crown. Truth, is the question here after Jean Carrouges' (Matt Damon) wife Marguerite (Jodie Comer) accuses Jacques Le Gris (Adam Driver) of rape. Really a good film!!!

Heroes are, sometimes, cut from violent cloths. For the case of agent 007, James Bond has taken down the likes of Quantum and Spectre and now seeks a peaceful life in retirement with his girlfriend, Madeleine Swan. However, mysteries unfold as her troubled past comes back to haunt her, and Bond must bring and end to the villain behind all of this before it's too late. Meanwhile, Eddie Brock and Venom are at odds when both have different plans in how they can both actively keep peace in the crime filled streets of San Francisco. After a fateful encounter with serial killer, Cletus Kasady, a new villain is born as Carnage wreaks havoc amongst the city. In today's episode, I review "Venom: Let There Be Carnage" and the final film in Daniel Craig's tenure as the legendary spy with a license to kill in "No Time to Die". Which of these films is worth your time? Which of them are better off skipped? Listen and find out! NEW SEGMENT! SPOILER WARNING AHEAD! Follow the show on social media for future updates, and let me know what you think about the show or what titles you'd want to be reviewed in future episodes. The Graphic Histories Podcast

Carnage was once a serial killer known as Cletus Kasady, and became Carnage after merging with the offspring of the alien symbiote called Venom during a prison breakout. The symbiote amplified his psychotic nature making him even less mentally stable than he had been previously, and therefore even more dangerous. An interesting note is that, unlike Venom, Carnage is a singular entity, referring to himself as "I" instead of "We", because the symbiote has actually merged into Kasady's bloodstream.

To tie in with the Absolute Carnage storyline, Anthony & Doc tackle Carnage himself, CLETUS KASADY! What treatment is there for a deranged, amoral serial killer bonded to a symbiote? Doc has the answers! Listen now! SHOW NOTES: Intro Shoutout to Cage’s Kiss podcast – Every episode covers another Nicolas Cage film Background (02:36) Cletus Kasady created by David Michelinie and Erik Larsen in The Amazing Spider-Man #344 (March 1991) Created because Michelinie wanted to kill off Eddie Brock in ASM 400, but he was too popular – Aunt May killed off instead Born in Ravencroft Asylum, but his heart stopped for a few minutes until he was revived by an ancient evil who foresaw that Cletus would be the one to free him As a child, he pushed his grandmother down a flight of stairs and killed her, threw a hair dryer in the bathtub with his mother, and killed his mother’s dog with a drill His father went to jail for beating his mother, so he was raised in an orphanage, which he burned down after killing the administrator Grew up to become a serial killer, and shared a cell at Ryker’s with Eddie Brock – when the Venom symbiote rebonded with him, a piece broke off and merged with Kasady, creating Carnage Spider-Man and Venom teamed up to defeat him, and the symbiote was thought to be destroyed, but it was bonded to his blood “Maximum Carnage” - he broke out of the Vault and joined other villains to take over New York, until he was defeated by a collection of heroes Later being held in the Raft – escaped, but grabbed by Sentry, flown out of the atmosphere, and ripped in half Repeatedly captured, breaks out, and kills again AXIS – morality inverted and becomes a hero who sacrifices himself to save humanity from the inverted X-Men Absolute Carnage – symbiote returns and bonds with the aforementioned ancient evil to wreak havoc Issues (10:20) Displays Conduct Disorder as a child – intervention could have prevented further problems Nihilist mindset – believes laws are meaningless, and only chaos is true freedom (26:15) Symbiote and its impact on his mental state – (34:30) Break Plugs for Deleter, Play Comics, and Popcorn Psychology Treatment (39:55) In-universe Out of universe (47:10) Skit (54:29) Ending Next episodes - Ultimate Reed Richards (Maker), Survivor's Guilt We have a Discord! Spider-Man is awesome. Venom is even more awesome. Carnage isn't quite as awesome as either of them, but he's still pretty awesome. So what happens when you take all that awesome and squeeze it into a video game? You get a freaking awesome video game.  Worst. Intro. Ever.   It's true, though. Maximum Carnage is awesome. It certainly isn't perfect, but it scratches all the basic video game itches. It handles pretty well, it looks sweet, and it's fun to play. The music is really good,  and thanks to the source material it's based on, it has a solid (albeit somewhat confusing if you don't know anything about the original comic books) story.    The quick version is as follows: Spider-Man (Peter Parker) came into contact with an alien symbiote in space. He was able to wear it as a new costume, but eventually found it was taking over his brain and actions, so he got rid of it. The discarded alien found a new host in Eddie Brock (who already hated Peter Parker), and combined with him to form Venom. Eddie Brock eventually found himself separated from the suit and in jail, sharing a cell with serial killer Cletus Kasady. The symbiote came to the jail to help Eddie escape, but left it's offspring behind. That new symbiote bonded with Kasady to form the super villain Carnage. Spider-Man and Venom put their differences aside and defeat him, but eventually Carnage breaks out of jail again, and forms a stable of villains to wreak havoc with.    *Deep breath*   That's where the game picks up. You control Spider-Man and Venom (separately), and the object of the game is to take down Carnage and friends. Having to control the two heroes individually is my biggest gripe with the game. Multi-player seemed like a no brainer. This game is a fun, VERY DIFFICULT beat 'em up, and that genre screams "couch co-op". Particularly when the entire game is centred around an alliance between two characters.    As disappointing as the lack of a second player is, it doesn't break the game. Maximum Carnage is still fun to play, and you'll enjoy yourself until you inevitably lose too many times and get frustrated. This game is hard as fuck. But like most games of that era, a lot of repetition and practice makes it tolerable. The great graphics and music help with that, too.    This isn't the best beat 'em up of all-time, or even just of it's era (you can pry that title from Turtles In Time's cold, dead hands), but it's still sweet. That distinctive red cartridge helps it stick out, and it seems like even casual Marvel fans know these characters and the story involved. My buddy Tyler does, and so do I. We'll tell you all about it this week. Have a listen!

Here are the links you need (they're case sensitive): Donate List: Bit.Ly/SupportBlackWomenHOU Recipiant Application: Bit.Ly/SupportBWHOU %CODE_PP3% We're wrapping up our Peter Parker Character Corner with the third and final part. We go over (quickly) the introduction of Carnage and then Peter & Harry's final confrontation. Then its on the one of the most controversial storylines: The second clone saga. No matter where you fall in the debate, we can all agree things got a bit out of control. It's not all bad though since Ben Reilly has become a pretty popular character and so despite the mess, there were some good outcomes. We then get into Civil War, One More Day and where Peter is now. Our Rogue Wars character corner covers a lot of the later issues of Peter so you'll definitely want to check that out. Carnage & the Death of Harry Osborn We finished our last Character Corner with the first appearance of Venom. I personally think that his next two appearances (Amazing Spider-Man 314-317 & #346-347) are more interesting and defining for the character than issue 300. But that’s just me. Clearly the character was a hit because Marvel decided to up the ante with the introduction of Cletus Kasady & Carnage. This leads to Maximum Carnage which isn’t a very good comic book arc but an excellent and fun video game. So all isn’t lost. More interesting than Carnage is the “final” confrontation between Harry Osborn (as Green Goblin) and Peter.   The Mess that is the Second Clone Saga There’s no way around it but the second Clone Saga is a complete mess.  It’s a great example of how a decent concept can spin out of control when the original plan isn’t stuck to. Just like with Geoff John’s Blackest Night/Brightest Day, it starts off pretty decent but then the sheer number of issues and books required to get an understanding of what happens just overwhelming. That said, there’s a lot of good things from the second clone saga that get over looked. First, I think it was a great idea to have Peter thinking he was the real clone and giving up being Spider-Man in favor of Ben. Sure it probably pissed off fans at the time but I think that fans can have knee jerk reactions to change even if it’s a good overall idea. Think what happened when Otto became Spider-Man and Peter “died”. That was a great story. In this case, Ben Reilly is a really great character. It also added a great dynamic to see Ben taking on classic Spider-Man villains for the first time but struggling because the villains have evolved but he was still fighting them using his memories from the first clone saga. Also, despite the sprawl of books in the second clone saga, there are some really good mini-stories in it. Web of Death is a GREAT Doctor Octopus story And finally there is the return of Norman Osborn. Sure, it probably didn’t make a whole lot of sense and probably should have been done better. But considering all the great things that Norman has been used for since then, this is an example of taking something that was executed poorly and making it great with later stories. When you go and read the Clone Saga mini-series that Tom DeFalco and Howard Mackie wrote in 2009 that followed the original script and boiled it down to 6 issues, you can see how there was a lot of potential there. I won’t say that the second Clone Saga gets unfairly criticized because it was executed poorly but there was definitely a great story buried in there. Civil War & One More Day After the Clone Saga, Peter goes through a lot of different changes. Some of them not so great. The Others brings Peter to a weird time where he gets new spider powers like shooting organic webshooters (boooooo). He also gets something else new in his life: A decent paying job thanks to Tony Stark. Tony and Peter become close which leads to Tony creating a ne...

Venom: Let There Be Carnage - What a weird concept of characters and stories and ideas. Comic books, and their ideas at some of the weirdest. So Andy Serkis and Tom Hardy decide to let it be that and to make it happen in under 100 minutes without wasting time for the unessential. It just isn't for. I've got nothing against it, just not what I am interested in. But if you are interested in Venom or Carnage as characters/ideas you will probably love this. I would love to hear what you thought about the movie, but also this podcast!
