Indie Game Movement - The podcast about the business and marketing of indie games.
In an industry dominated by action, and complex graphics, creating immersive experiences with simple mechanics can be a daunting endeavor. However, sometimes there's more potential than meets the eye, especially when looking to stand out. Today, we're going to investigate how simple, niche genres can also provide depth, creating a level of immersion that can rival other genres through thoughtful game design, engaging storytelling, and strong community collaboration. Alan Rihm is LIVE this week at Cloud Connections 2024 “People can be your biggest competitive advantage,” says Alan Rihm, Fall Forward CEO and Co-Founder. “Or you can waste a lot of time and have a huge amount of turnover and a lot of disgruntled.” In the creative storm of the cloud communications industry, Rihm reminds is, in this brief podcast that organizations are as defined by their people, their talent, and how that talent led, as by the services and products they offer. The two tracks run side by side. Rihm tells us that our technology might be radically different just two or three years from now. But the company culture is also a thing in motion. Will your team look forward, each day to coming to work, to doing the actual work? Will be inspired to see new things in the new technologies? Or will a poor culture make the least of the most advanced innovations. “We're all about trying to help leaders leverage technology to get the most out of their team.” Alan is joined by Dave Gilbert, Cloud Evangelist at Cavemen Investments LLC. Both Dave and Alan have led organizations up through stages from beginnings, take off to an eventual successful sale. They have seen the seasons of technological changes and the continuity of the human element: the need for the CEO to build a special culture. Alan Rihm and Dave Gilbert are LIVE at Cloud Connections 2024. Today Alan leads fall Forum, helping startups with a venture studio. Visit www.fallforward.com

Like our previous guest, Murray Bennett, Dave Gilbert played his one Ashes Test at the Oval in the 6th Test of the 1985 series. Dave reveals how he went from a 10 year old boy in the crowd at the SCG during the 1971 Ashes to playing on the biggest stage for his country. It's a cricketing journey that takes in New South Wales, the Essex and Lancashire leagues, Tasmania and Gloucestershire, via kangaroo courts and tied Tests.
I welcome Dave Gilbert to the podcast to pick his brain about adventure games and nostalgia. We touch upon the birth of the Adventure Game Studio community, the role of Wadjet Eye as a publisher and also get pleasantly derailed talking about voice acting in games and directing voice actors.
On this episode we sit down the Dave Gilbert, the genius mind behind Wadjet Eye Games. We get a glimpse into his creative process & how the pandemic has impacted him & his mental health.

Wadjet Eye Games founder Dave Gilbert has been interested in adventure games since 1986, when his mother made the mistake of buying him a copy of Infocom’s Wishbringer. Fifteen years later, he discovered the Adventure Game Studio engine and began making his own ever since. Dave joins our host Jason Imms this week to discuss how he moved from a career in the garmet industry to running one of the most prolific adventure game studios and publishers in the world.
