This week on Fantastic Forum, we are traveling from the stars of the DC Universe to the haunted hills of Italy with two exciting new releases. First up is Supergirl, the latest film from DC Studios starring Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, Jason Momoa, David Corenswet, Emily Beecham, and David Krumholtz. Inspired by Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film follows Kara as she embarks on a dangerous journey across the cosmos that challenges her understanding of justice, family, and what it truly means to be a hero. We are breaking down the performances, the visual spectacle, and whether this latest chapter continues the momentum of DC Studios' new cinematic universe. Then we turn to Hellboy and the B.P.R.D.: The Monster of Nivola, written by Mike Mignola and Christopher Golden, with painted art by Daniele Serra and lettering by Clem Robins. Set in 1963, Hellboy is dispatched to the mountain village of Nivola, Italy, where an ancient legend has become a terrifying reality. As villagers disappear and fear spreads through the countryside, Hellboy uncovers a monstrous force tied to the region's dark folklore. Serra's haunting painted artwork perfectly complements Mignola and Golden's atmospheric tale, delivering a gothic mystery that feels both timeless and unmistakably Hellboy. Netflix rewrites beloved characters, Sony walks away from physical media, Westeros delivers, and DC Studios stumbles out of the gate again. This week on the podcast, Brian and Darryl discuss Netflix's handling of Avatar: The Last Airbender Season 2 and why disrespecting beloved characters is becoming one of streaming's biggest problems. They also break down Sony's latest PlayStation decisions and what they mean for the future of physical media and game ownership. Then it's back to Westeros for House of the Dragon Season 3 Episode 2 before wrapping things up with their review of Supergirl (2026) and whether DC Studios has another winner on its hands. Episode Index Intro: 0:07 Playstation Kill Physical Media: 06:07 AtLAB, Netfilx is why we can’t have nice things: 28:20 House of the Dragon: 41:57 Supergirl: 56:27 PlayStation Announces the End of Physical Media Announcement Date: July 1, 2026 Effective Date: January 2028 Company: Sony Interactive Entertainment Summary: Sony announced that beginning in January 2028, all new PlayStation games will be released digitally only, ending production of physical Blu-ray game discs for future releases. Games already released—or scheduled for release before the 2028 cutoff—will continue to be sold on disc, but every new title afterward will require a digital download through the PlayStation Store or participating retailers. Sony says the decision reflects changing consumer habits, noting that digital purchases now account for roughly 80% of full-game sales on PlayStation. Key Details: – Physical discs for new PlayStation releases end in January 2028. – Existing disc-based games will continue to work and remain available while supplies last. – Retailers will transition to selling digital download codes instead of boxed games. – Sony says the move follows overwhelming consumer preference for digital purchases. Why It Matters: – Gamers lose the ability to buy, sell, trade, or lend future PlayStation games. – Collectors will no longer have physical editions for new releases. – Consumers become increasingly tied to Sony's digital storefront and licensing model. – Preservation advocates worry that future games could become inaccessible if licensing changes or digital storefronts eventually close. – Digital-only distribution gives publishers greater pricing control by reducing competition from the used-game market. Discussion Points: – Do you really own a digital game, or are you simply purchasing a revocable license? – What happens to game preservation when no physical copy exists? – Will digital-only distribution lead to higher prices due to reduced retail competition? – Is convenience worth giving up ownership rights? – Does this set the stage for the PlayStation 6 to become a fully digital platform? Industry analysts increasingly believe so. Infamous Take: While digital downloads are undeniably convenient, this announcement marks the end of an era. Physical media has always given players tangible ownership, resale value, and long-term access independent of corporate licensing agreements. Sony's decision may make business sense, but it also shifts even more control away from consumers and toward platform holders; a trend that extends far beyond gaming. Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix) Season: 2 Platform: Netflix Summary: Brian and Darryl discuss Netflix's continued adaptation of Avatar: The Last Airbender and why they believe the series is losing sight of what made the original so beloved. The conversation focuses on major character changes, the difference between adaptation and rewriting, and why respecting the heart of the source material matters just as much as updating it for a modern audience. House of the Dragon (HBO Max) Season 3, Episode 2 Title: Queen’s Landing Air Date: June 28, 2026 Director: Clare Kilner Writer: Sara Hess Summary: Following the devastating Battle of the Gullet, Rhaenyra's grief quickly turns into resolve as Team Black moves to seize King's Landing. Alicent secretly conspires to surrender the city in hopes of saving part of her family, while Daemon returns to continue the campaign. The episode marks a major turning point in the Dance of the Dragons as alliances shift, old loyalties collapse, and Rhaenyra finally claims the Iron Throne at tremendous personal cost. Rating out of 5 Otto Not So Hightower Brian: 4.5/5 Darryl: 4.45/5 Supergirl (2026) Release Date: June 26, 2026 Runtime: 108 minutes Director: Craig Gillespie Writer: Ana Nogueira Based On: Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely Studio: DC Studios Distributor: Warner Bros. Pictures Summary: Kara Zor-El embarks on a brutal interstellar journey alongside the young warrior Ruthye Marye Knoll to hunt down the man responsible for murdering Ruthye's family. Along the way, Kara confronts her own trauma while facing the ruthless Krem of the Yellow Hills, resulting in a darker, more cosmic take on the Girl of Steel than previous film adaptations. Main Cast: – Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El / Supergirl – Eve Ridley as Ruthye Marye Knoll – Matthias Schoenaerts as Krem of the Yellow Hills – Jason Momoa as Lobo – David Krumholtz as Zor-El – Emily Beecham as Alura In-Ze – David Corenswet as Superman (cameo) Production Notes: The second film in DC Studios' new shared universe adapts Tom King's acclaimed Woman of Tomorrow storyline, emphasizing Kara's emotional scars and cosmic adventures over a traditional superhero origin. Despite strong expectations and praise for Milly Alcock's performance, the film opened below box office projections and received mixed critical reception, making it one of the first commercial disappointments of the new DC Universe. Supergirl is a 2026 superhero film based on the DC Comics character, directed by Craig Gillespie from a screenplay by Ana Nogueira. Produced by DC Studios' James Gunn and Peter Safran, it is the second theatrical entry in the new DC Universe (DCU). Milly Alcock stars as Kara Zor-El alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, Emily Beecham, David Corenswet, and Jason Momoa. Adapted from Tom King and Bilquis Evely's acclaimed Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, the film follows Kara on a galaxy-spanning quest for vengeance that ultimately forces her to confront grief, justice, and her own identity. A standalone Supergirl project had been in development during the DC Extended Universe era after Sasha Calle's debut in The Flash (2023), but Gunn and Safran rebooted the concept following their appointment as co-heads of DC Studios in 2022. Filmed in England and Scotland during early 2025, Supergirl premiered in Brooklyn on June 22, 2026, opened nationwide on June 26 as part of DCU Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, received mixed reviews from critics, and has grossed approximately $63 million worldwide to date.Disclaimer: The following may contain offensive language, adult humor, and/or content that some viewers may find offensive – The views and opinions expressed by any one speaker does not explicitly or necessarily reflect or represent those of Mark Radulich or W2M Network.Mark Radulich and his wacky podcast on all the things:https://linktr.ee/markkind76alsohttps://www.teepublic.com/user/radulich-in-broadcasting-networkFB Messenger: Mark Radulich LCSWTiktok: @markradulichtwitter: @MarkRadulichInstagram: markkind76RIBN Album Playlist: https://suno.com/playlist/91d704c9-d1ea-45a0-9ffe-5069497bad59

Yet her path was far from straightforward: discouraged at drama school, she moved to Paris as an au pair and rebuilt her training from scratch. Her childhood had already been shaped by profound loss after the deaths of her father and stepfather in near‑identical accidents. She has now channelled these experiences into her directorial debut, My Mother's Wedding, which she also co‑wrote and stars in, alongside Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller and Emily Beecham. SUPERGIRL OFFICIAL TRAILER REACTION!! Trailer 2 | Jason Momoa Lobo | Superman | DC Studios

SUPERMAN CAMEO ALREADY?! Greg Alba, Coy Jandreau, and Roxy Striar react to the brand-new Supergirl trailer from DC Studios and James Gunn's DCU! This new look gives us a much better sense of the movie's tone, scale, and emotional core, including our best trailer look yet at Milly Alcock's Kara Zor-El / Supergirl, Jason Momoa's Lobo, the destruction and trauma tied to Argo, the intergalactic revenge quest with Ruthye, and the major role Krypto plays in kicking off the story. Director Craig Gillespie has described the film as a sci-fi epic inspired in part by True Grit and John Wick, with Kara helping Ruthye track down Krem after Ruthye's family is murdered and Krypto is poisoned. In this trailer reaction, we talk about the melancholy vibe, the heavier emotional weight compared to Superman, the cosmic scope, the action, the visual style, and how much more tragic and battle-worn this version of Supergirl feels. We also get into Lobo's presence, how important Ruthye looks to the story, the destruction of Argo City / Kryptonian life, and what the movie seems to be setting up for Kara emotionally as she moves through this revenge-driven DCU adventure. Craig Gillespie said the film digs deep into Krypton's culture and Argo specifically to shape Kara's personality and pain, which is all over this footage. We also discuss the Superman connection / cameo angle, since David Corenswet's Superman is expected to appear alongside Kara in the film after her DCU debut path was tied to Superman, and the trailer continues to make this feel like a true extension of the new shared universe James Gunn and Peter Safran are building. Supergirl stars Milly Alcock, Jason Momoa, Eve Ridley, Matthias Schoenaerts, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham, and it hits theaters and IMAX on June 26, 2026. As for the upcoming DCU movie slate under James Gunn, the current theatrical lineup includes Supergirl (June 26, 2026), Clayface (September 2026), and Man of Tomorrow (July 2027), while other DCU film projects in development include The Brave and the Bold, Swamp Thing, The Authority, Teen Titans, and Wonder Woman Follow Roxy Striar YouTube:https://www.youtube.com/@TheWhirlGirls Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/roxystriar/?hl=en Twitter:  https://twitter.com/roxystriar Follow Coy Jandreau:  Tik Tok: https://www.tiktok.com/@coyjandreau?l... I'm very excited about this week's BEHIND THE LENS and for you to hear from these two fabulous directors – KRISTIN SCOTT THOMAS talking about the delightful, charming, and funny MY MOTHER'S WEDDING and HOWARD J. FORD talking up RIVER OF BLOOD and a "leisurely kayak ride" through the jungles of Thailand, complete with indigenous tribes who don't like outsiders. What could possibly go wrong! Directed by KRISTIN SCOTT THOMAS and co-written by Kristin and John Micklethwaite (her real-life husband), MY MOTHER'S WEDDING stars Scarlett Johansson, Sienna Miller, Emily Beecham, Freida Pinto, and Kristin Scott Thomas and is the tale of three sisters who return to their childhood home for a momentous occasion: the third wedding of their twice-widowed mother. Over the weekend, the family gathers to celebrate the new marriage, but mother and daughters alike are forced to revisit the past and confront the future, all with help from a colorful group of unexpected wedding guests. An absolute joy speaking with Kristin about her writing and directorial process, from the first moment, it is clear that she not only was and is passionate about this very personal story, but understands the intricate details of the production and storytelling process and its collaborative nature. Now we go from the beautiful, joyful, and fun, to the terror and horror of a Thai jungle. Directed by HOWARD J. FORD and written by Tom Boyle, RIVER OF BLOOD stars Joseph Millson, Louis James, Ella Starbuck, Sarah Alexandra Marks, and David Wayman, many of whom you may recognize from Howard's prior films. As you'll hear Howard break it all down, he goes deep into his processes, starting with the challenges of filming in Thailand, including the search for jungle locations and the use of a local crew. With nothing but praise for his Thai cinematographer Park, we discuss the creation and use of smoke, along with the choice of Sony FX3 and FX6 cameras. And laying dolly track in the jungle? Amazing. But always at the forefront is Howard's desire and demand for authenticity. Speaking of authenticity, how about the use of real indigenous tribes as well as practical effects? One of the truly outstanding elements of RIVER OF BLOOD is the sound design and sound mix. WOW! We really get into Joe Vince's sound design and the mixing work of Graham and Adam Daniel, particularly when you layer in the very cool score by Anthony and Jack Wade. http://eliasentertainmentnetwork.com

Welcome to Multiverse News, Your source for Information about all your favorite fictional universes Last Wednesday morning, Marvel Television treated fans to the long awaited first official teaser trailer for Daredevil: Born Again. The trailer was met with universal praise for its dark tone and brutal depictions of violence, elements that it shares with the beloved Netflix series. The nine-episode first season premieres March 4 on Disney Plus. In some Captain America news, it was confirmed that Brave New World will have a total runtime of one hour and 58 minutes, which ties it with Ant-Man & The Wasp as the seventh shortest MCU flick to date. It will also be the first Captain America film under two hours long. It's brand new news today, Ryan Gosling is in negotiations to star in Shawn Levy's future Star Wars film. Levy's film has been in development with Lucasfilm since 2022, and getting Gosling seems like it could be a major step in getting the film truly off the ground and into the galaxy far, far away. Last we knew, the film was not to be set within the Skywalker saga The use of AI has been a frequent hot topic for Hollywood in recent years, reaching a seeming fever pitch during the 2023 WGA and SAG AFTRA strikes as a major point of negotiation. While the dust seemed to have settled a bit with the resolution of those strikes, new controversies plaguing high profile films and filmmakers have brought the discussion back to the forefront. First, Taxi Driver writer and First Reformed director, Paul Schrader, opined, in a since much lambasted Facebook post, the benefits of using a platform like ChatGPT for film ideas, in contrast to waiting the months it can take writers to ideate. Elsewhere, awards season favorite and Oscar hopeful, The Brutalist, has come under fire after an editor revealed generative A.I. was used to enhance the authenticity of the lead performers Hungarian accents. Emily Beecham and David Krumholtz have signed on to Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, portraying the parents of Kara Zor-El. Production on the DC Studios film commenced last week. Sony Pictures has released the first trailer for “Until Dawn,” the live-action adaptation of the popular 2015 PlayStation horror game. The film is currently set to be released on April 25th. After nearly 15 years of shaping Spider-Man's adventures at Marvel Comics, Eisner Award winner Dan Slott is making the move to DC. The acclaimed writer will make his DC debut on Superman Unlimited, a new monthly series featuring art by American Vampire co-creator Rafael Albuquerque. Westworld star Thandiwe Newton and Silo's Steve Zahn have joined Paul Rudd and Jack Black in Columbia's comedy reboot of Anaconda. Nintendo has revealed its Switch 2 console with first look images and a teaser trailer, confirming a 2025 release. Uma Thurman has joined the cast of Dexter series Dexter: Resurrection and will star alongside Michael C. Hall. Filmmaker David Lynch, who created celebrated counterculture classics like Blue Velvet, Mulholland Drive, and co-created Twin Peaks, has died at 78. A24 and Picturestart are teaming with director Charlie Polinger for a revisionist and darkly comedic take on The Masque of The Red Death, based on the short story of the same name by Edgar Allen Poe. Sydney Sweeney is currently in negotiations to star. After extensive negotiations, IMAX has secured a deal to exclusively screen Greta Gerwig's Netflix adaptation of "Narnia" in theaters worldwide for two weeks, beginning Thanksgiving 2026, before its streaming debut that Christmas. Joel McHale has joined the cast of Scream 7 and will play Mark Evans, the husband to Neve Campbell's Sidney Prescott. A24 has released the first trailer for upcoming horror film Opus, which hits theaters on March 14th. The film stars Ayo Edebiri, John Malkovich, Murray Bartlett, Juliette Lewis, and Amber Midthunder.

**To sign up for the Reel Ruminators (Free Trial), visit https://email.seventh-row.com/trial.** In this episode, Alex Heeney discusses the new independent British film The Old Man and the Land, which was just released in the U.K. The film is told almost entirely as a series of voicemails from a farmer's two adult children (played by Rory Kinnear and Emily Beecham).  On screen, we only ever see the farmer (their father) tending to the land, doing his chores and daily activities. We never see the people whose voices we hear. The film raises interesting questions about how the film differs (or not) from a radio play in how it tells the story. What does the disconnect between sound and image in cinema offer for the story? Stay updated on Seventh Row Follow Seventh Row on Twitter and Instagram. Read our articles at seventh-row.com. Thrilling political drama. Collective Imagination. Playing Putin.  Patriots on Broadway is a political thriller written by Peter Morgan, writer of The Crown. You don't need to know much about politics to be wrapped up in this electric drama to understand what's happening in the world and on stage, especially with a little use of collective imagination. Lets dive into a little about what makes Will Keen's (Putin) process and approach to this play, which also happens to be his Broadway debut. Will Keen has just closed the West End transfer of Peter Morgan's Patriots, directed by Rupert Goold, for which he won the Olivier Award for Supporting Actor last year. He most recently wrapped “My Lady Jane” and the second series of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power,” both for Amazon, as well as indie feature Borderland opposite Felicity Jones and Mark Strong. He is currently on screens in “The Gold” (BBC1/Viacom), “Ridley Road” (BBC), and “The Pursuit of Love” (BBC) opposite Andrew Scott and Emily Beecham. His other TV credits include “His Dark Materials” seasons 1 and 2, “The Crown” seasons one and two, “Genius,” “Picasso,” “Wolf Hall” and “The Musketeers.” Stage credits include Ghosts, Waste (Almeida); Quartermaine's Terms (Wyndham's Theatre); The Arsonists (Royal Court); and Mary Stuart (National Theatre). In 1991, after the fall of the Soviet Union, the new Russia belongs to its oligarchs—and no one is more powerful than billionaire Boris Berezovsky. When an eventual successor to President Boris Yeltsin is needed, Berezovsky turns to the little-known deputy mayor of St. Petersburg, Vladimir Putin. But soon Putin's ruthless rise threatens Berezovsky's reign, setting off a riveting, near-Shakespearean confrontation between the two powerful, fatally flawed men. Tony® and Emmy® Award nominee Michael Stuhlbarg stars as Berezovsky and Will Keen reprises his Olivier Award-winning turn as Putin in PATRIOTS, a shockingly timely history play from Peter Morgan, creator of “The Crown.” Don't miss this strictly limited engagement of Olivier Award winner Rupert Goold's kinetic, exhilarating production, which reveals to us all how Russia's post-Soviet machinations continue to shape our world to this day. Patriots is playing at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre through June 23rd. https://patriotsbroadway.com/ Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
