Founding Red Rockers' bassist and NY Dolls manager Darren Hill returns with Oley Sassone, the SexDog guitarist and director of the Rockers' MTV debut, "China." While the hit video elevated the band to new career heights, touring with U2 and other top groups, it was also the pivotal achievement for Oley, propelling him to a career in L.A., where he rubbed elbows with James Cameron, Steven Soderbergh, and Marvel creator Stan Lee. Oley went on to direct over 100 music videos as well as numerous TV shows and films, including "Xena: Warrior Princess," "Hercules," and the controversial Roger Corman production of "The Fantastic Four." Tonight Darren and Oley return to their dive bar roots as they get down and dirty with the Troubled Men. Topics include the Milan Bar, deportations, a vow of silence, a wedding party, April Fool's Day, RFK Jr.'s toilet seat, a surprise tattoo, Pete Davidson, a methadone safe, a publishing mixup, Rummel H.S., super 8 movies, "A Hard Day's Night," "Pretty Baby," Sven Nykvist, the Swedish Film Institute, WYLD, the Glass House, the Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Mardi Gras Indians, directing commercials, an Annie Leibowitz cover photo, a spec production, an NYC publicist, an L.A. job offer, Bill Paxton, Richard Roundtree, an underground classic, Joseph Culp, the Contenders, RIP David Johansen, Gilbert Gottfried, and much more. Join us as we break down the plots, roast the misfires, and debate what we actually want from the upcoming MCU reboot. It's clobberin' time… or maybe just time to cringe. Either way, we can do this all day!

Show notes provided by Joe Peluso As summer approaches, and Joe can't get the darn AC to work efficiently, it's once again time to throw the back door to Mint wide open!Naturally a cool breeze would be welcomed, but more importantly are the "cool" Mint faithful who come through that portal to engage in convivial conversations and rousing remarks. Join your hosts James. and Joe as they traverse the pop-culture multiverse and land in James Gunn's DCU for the unveiling of the new Superman suit. From there they are spun into the MCU and prepare for the inaugural "launch" of the Fantastic Four. And then somewhere between Earth and The Kree Galaxy, the boys get sucked into the DeltaQuadrant and do a tour of duty on Star Trek's Voyager! Only to finally return home to the apocalyptic Ghost Machine future! Wow! All that by just opening a door! Didn't Rod Serling warn us about "doorways" more than sixty years ago? But don't worry about our spatial, time tossed hosts getting back to their proper time and place. Unlike Doug and Tony getting bounced around in that "time tunnel" (That Easter Egg is for you, Richie!), your hosts are properly tethered to 664 Port Blvd. Something to do with a "chipper'.

How did the World's Greatest Comic Magazine become The World's Least Seen Comic Book Movie? Michael and Lars take a (dubiously legal) look at the lost Fantastic Four movie, a cheap, rushed production that lead to one head scratcher of a film. Is it the best Fantastic Four movie ever made? Definitely not, but it makes for a good podcast subject, so tune in!
Join Sis and Big Pops for a fun, fun talk about one of the things we love most—Nerd Stuff. We discuss out fav bits of nerd news over the past couple of months. There are some fun movies that are coming out this year: Barbie, Mario Bros, the DnD movie, Ghosted, Meth Gator, and Flash. There's also a lot of fun movies in the works like Detective Pikachu (pardon our lack of Pokémon knowledge), something called Meth Gator, a new Hellboy, and another Peter Pan film. We also mentioned LOTR: Return of the King returning to theatres for the 20th anniversary, Warner Bros talking with Peter Jackson about making a LOTR franchise, James Gun's huge DC media talk, and Nick Cage being EPIC as always. Pop's also shares his dream casting for a Fantastic Four Movie, which sounds pretty great! For bingeing, Big Pops has been enjoying the new movies such as Ant Man, Jesus Revolution, and the Confession, He's also still really enjoying those Star Trek shows—Discovery and Picard. Sis has been watching Doctor Who starting with the 9th doctor, watching Vox Mochina, and listening to a lot of podcasts. Then, Pops shares his pull list! This week he introduces us to Nightwing Issue 101 by DC; Fantastic Four Issue 4 by Marvel; as well as Junkyard Joe Issue 5 by Image. His new number 1 is Master of the Universe – Masterverse by Dark Horse. With his Book of the Week being Human Target Issue 12 by DC Black Label. This week we chatted all things Doctor Who, mainly the 10th Doctor, as Sis and her hubs are binge-ing it from the beginning. AS well as a Doctor Who comic available on Amazon Prime. This episode was originally recorded on 03/09/23. Check us out on twitter @sisandbpops
On Episode 80 of the Capes and Tights Podcast, Paul Eaton joins the crew to discuss the unreleased The Fantastic Fourmovie. The Fantastic Four is an unreleased 1994 film based on the Marvel Comics team of the same name. The film features the team’s origin, and their first battle with Doctor Doom. Executive produced by low-budget specialists Roger Corman and Bernd Eichinger, it was made in order for Eichinger to keep the Fantastic Four film rights. It was not released officially, although pirated copies have circulated. It's a special bonus episode! Tony is joined by the hosts of The Chuck and Brad Podcast, Chuck Staton and Brad Rohrer, to follow up last week's Fantastic Four conversation with a deep dive into the never-released 1994 movie adaptation. They discuss the charms and obvious flaws of low-budget cheese, why we think filmmakers have struggled to make FF work on screen, and Chuck and Brad share some details on their upcoming live comedy show, "Spider-Man: Bradley Drawn" at the Sea Tea Comedy Theater in Hartford, CT (June 27) and The Comedy Connection in East Providence, RI (June 30). The tragic tale behind the making of Roger Corman’s The Fantastic Four is one that truly must be seen and heard to be believed. A finished product—fully shot, edited, and cut—abandoned to the scrap heap. But why? Well, a few reasons actually. For starters, the film itself was just a bargaining chip—a way for a production house to extend its creative license on what could potentially be a lucrative property. It was also seen by some as a probable franchise killer—a film whose suspect quality alone could tarnish whatever else would come. The latter may sound like a bit of an overreaction, but it’s important to remember that in 1994, the cinematic landscape for superhero and comic book films was vastly different. Point of fact, it was barren. Sure, we had Batman in 89, its sequel, and then some groan-inducing follow ups (themselves temporary franchise assassins); Superman had convinced the world a man could fly in the late 70s, but he’d petered out; his demise was so profound that it buried the character deeper than Nuclear Man had on the Moon. Other non-starters included The Shadow with Alec Baldwin and The Phantom with a preposterously purple-clad Billy Zane. It was a vastly different time. Marvel—outside of a couple of halfhearted, and ultimately failed ventures—had, for the most part, remained on the sidelines. This film—at least in the minds of the cast and crew—would be their big coming out party. Alas, it was not meant to be. Corman’s Fantastic Four would disappear into the pop culture Phantom Zone, lingering in an infamous anonymity before resurfacing to the jeers and mockery of the public. Yet that is what makes it so fascinating. In every sense of the term, it’s a noble failure. The director, cast, and crew dedicated themselves wholly to its promise and did so under the constrictions of the most modest of budgets. So sit back, grab a beer, and enjoy as I, the Thunderous Wizard (@WriterTLK and @HopsandBOFlops), and my special guest co-host Captain Cash (@CaptCash) take you through the wild journey of the first-ever Fantastic Four movie (as well as its accompanying documentary Doomed). Oddly—despite all its obvious shortcomings—it’s the most faithful to the property that inspired it.
What do you get when you throw a million dollar budget at America's B-movie producing king along with a Russian production company who's only interested in making the movie just so they can hang onto the film rights to maybe make a bigger, better FF film down the line? Roger Corman's 1994 production of the Fantastic Four! A movie that was anything BUT fantastic and was widely considered to be a complete mess of a film, that is...until the 2016 Fant4stic movie was released and showed the film-going public what a TRULY horrible FF movie could look like! In comparison, for all it's hammy acting, cheesy effects and noticeably total absence of production value, it was actually a pretty fun movie!

All that and much more... So get plugged in. Time for Action Features.
Mr. Incredible and his super-family (Elastigirl, Violet, Dash & Jack-Jack, along with super-friend Frozone) are back--after a 14-year wait by fans--in "The Incredibles 2" from Disney/Pixar and writer/director Brad Bird, which picks up immediately after the end of 2004's "The Incredibles." In this episode of the podcast, Andy Farnsworth and Ryan Meeks--who both liked the movie a lot--are talking SPOILERS, including what they liked best (hint: one of them involves Jack-Jack and a "burglar"), what they thought of the movie's villain The Screenslaver, how it compares as a superhero film to "Avengers: Infinity War" and where the story can go from here. Check out our SPOILER-FREE review on our "Fan Effect" Facebook page. This podcast is also available in video form on iTunes & YouTube. The 2015 film makes it way to HBO and we watch it. That's it, we had to see if it's as bad as the reviews made it to be. Along with that, there is still a chance for Fantastic Four 2, I am not kidding. There is good, there is bad, and OHH there is there ugly. If you haven't seen it and want to know what happens, we tell you. In fact, I would bet our podcast telling you about this movie, may be more entertaining than watching the actual movie. Take a listen and Enjoy!!!

Fox's Fantastic Four mostly directed by Josh Trank (Chronicle) was released on the 7th of August 2015. Join three of our Defenders, Chris, John and Derek for our Fantastic Four 2015 Movie Review on its weekend of release. We begin our discussion of this movie with our spoiler free thoughts on whether some of our listeners who are on the fence about seeing the latest version of the Fantastic Four on the big screen should take the time out to see it. We then provide our full detailed thoughts through our top five standout points about the movie. If you want to send us any thoughts on this review or any of our other episodes please email us at feedback@defenderstvpodcast.com Fantastic Four 2015 Movie review Synopsis - SPOILERS A young scientist, Reed Richards (Miles Teller) enlists the help of junk yard worker Ben Grimm (Jamie Bell) to help him develop an experimental teleportation machine. The initial tests worked but Reed continues to work on the project for the next seven years until he's spotted at a science fair by industrial scientist Dr. Franklin Storm (Reg E. Cathey). Franklin informs Reed that his teleportation machine in fact transports matter to another dimension and back. Impressed that Richards created this prototype in his garage, Franklin offers him a job at his company, all the resources he needs and a team consisting of his son Johnny Storm (Michael B. Jordan) and daughter Sue Storm (Kate Mara) and Victor Von Doom (Toby Kebbell), a former employee of Franklin's who became despondent when he couldn't complete a similar project. Working together the team complete the project and open a portal to "Zero Planet". Reed, Victor, Johnny decide to take a drunken trip to the planet dragging Ben Grimm along for the joyride. But disaster strikes and the team are attacked by an unknown substance on the planet. Sue Storm, who remained in the Baxter Building facility while the boys went on the trip, saves most of the team by reactivating the recall protocol. Unfortunately Victor is left behind as he took the brunt of the infection from the mysterious substance and the team believe he is dead. The team soon discover that their bodies have been greatly changed. Johnny is constantly on fire, Reed's body stretches in fantastic ways, Sue phases in and out of visibility and poor Ben Grimm is transformed into a giant rock monster. In order to cure their illnesses and strip resources from the planet for earth, the team are convinced by the army to retry their experiment and return to Zero planet. When they return they find Victor who has been sustained by the planet for the year he has been missing. He is angered by the notion that the army wants to strip the planet of its resources and decides to go on a killing spree and destroy Earth. The four heroes must team up for the first time to save the earth and take out Victor if they want to save the Earth from it's doom. Legends of S.H.I.E.L.D.: An Unofficial Marvel Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. Fan Podcast
The @LegendsOfShield (Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D.) Agents Lauren, Haley and Stargate Pioneer enjoy the podcasts' 50th episode as they break down the Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D. episode The Writing On The Wall! They also run down the week in Marvel news and comment on all the awesome Legends Of S.H.I.E.L.D. feedback. The crew discuss the great BuzzFeed article forwarded to us by Jay on twitter titled “17 Perfect Marvel Headcanons That Will Give You All The Feels” including “The one where the ladies of S.H.I.E.L.D. run the world” (http://www.buzzfeed.com/kmallikarjuna/perfect-marvel-headcanons). The hosts don't forget (Thanks to GallifreyPublicRadio.com) that The Doctor does indeed have a device that can download comics from the future and that we all both wants it and are a bit scared of all the content we’d have to “catch up” to. And how we’d all use the TARDIS to go jump through time to catch all the great upcoming movies not on opening weekend and how Biff Tannen wasn’t all that wrong in Back To The Future. Also, how we’d use the TARDIS to raid recent shipwrecks for their precious metals without getting in trouble with the law. The hosts join listener Starsaber and iO9 in speculating on the future of Joss Whedon in Marvel or DC following Avengers 2 (http://io9.com/what-happens-to-the-marvel-cinematic-universe-when-joss-1656990975). And we discuss Jay’s top 5 Marvel character list: Jay Witten To stargatepioneer@gonnageek.com Nov 9 at 5:34 PM Took me a little while to put them in the right order, but here they are. 1. Spiderman 2. Spiderman (Ben Reilly) 3. Spiderman (Miles Morales) 4. Spiderman 2099 5. Kane (failed Spiderman clone, later stabilized and is now Scarlet Spider) Ok, I'm kidding....kinda. For real now. 1. Spiderman (Peter Parker, though my favorite costume is the Ben Reilly version from the Sensational Spider-Man title.) 2. Gambit 3. Venom (Eddie Brock) 4. Deadpool 5. Hulk All three hosts are revving to see Big Hero 6. If you’ve seen it drop us a line and tell the hosts what you thought of it! Also, the hosts discuss L+7 ratings (including the latest 3.0+ point jump from L+Same Day ratings) and what they might mean in the future for advertising and product placement in the television shows we love to watch in the future. Haley’s not-seen movie list now includes: Showgirls, Top Gun, Skyfall, Magic Mike, Starman, Highlander and Much Ado About Nothing. The crew discuss The Fantastic Four Movie, the new Victor Domashev (Dr. Doom) and why all the hosts really would like at least The Fantastic Four villains back into the Marvel Cinematic Universe (The Skrulls, Galactus, Silver Surfer). Of course there’s science in this episode as Stargate Pioneer brings forth a DARPA article on possible future Helicarriers (to be powers by nuclear power plants and flown over enemy territory via Haley) and Wired.com’s latest article on why no one can lift Thor’s hammer (spoiler: Gravitrons). There seems to be a hiccup in how YouTube is counting views for the new Avengers 2 trailer that was released with additional footage. If anyone knows exactly how the YouTube counts views (especially with a replaced file) please let us know! Haley and Lauren shower Stargate Pioneer with their knowledge of Attilan and how StarPi’s son Sandrock Kai teased his Dad about crossing the DC-Marvel streams. This episode had a plethora of great lines and quotes including an homage by Skye to Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory and how much of an Epic Fail Coulson’s 0-8-4 reveal was to Skye. Stargate Pioneer pleads with Disney, ABC and Marvel to NEVER see the T.A.H.I.T.I. mind erasing device again. We learn that the T.A.H.I.T.I. alien host is thousands of years old and Haley questions why the nuclear option to destroy the “host.” And Lauren regales us with her knowledge about genetic memory and retroviruses. For a great counter argument to genetic memory check out the new series Cosmos: A Spacetime Odyssey hosted by Neil deGrasse Tyson (stop killing Pluto as a planet, dude!). In this week’s episode The Writing On The Wall the show reveals to us a possibility for Fitz to regain his brain’s backup files! Yay Science Babies! Plus we get friction between Science Baby (Simmons) and Mack (Science Babysitter). The hosts attempt to get a timeline on just when S.H.I.E.L.D.’s T.A.H.I.T.I. project occurred and where the painting carvings and the chalkboard writing from last year came from. The shady Hydra Goldbricks Boston tavern is a reference to Fury calling folks Goldbricks. And why Goldbricks isn’t a real apt descriptions for Fury to be saying anyway. Ward’s dead man switch bugs Haley. A lot. And Lauren equates it to the thermal detonator in Star Wars. The hosts discuss all the fun things that should have been on Bakshi’s cell phone to make it more entertaining for the viewers. Everything from sexting to selfie singing videos.
