Honestly, Nassourdine Imavov is pretty legit. He's 16-4 (1) overall, riding a three-fight win streak and heads into Saturday's UFC Fight Night main event against Caio Borralho fresh off a February victory over Israel Adesanya. He was the UFC's No. 1 middleweight contender until voters recently had to make room for Dricus Du Plessis. So, why does nobody seem to know (or care) who he is? Good news for Imavov: if he beats Borralho this weekend, he'll likely be one of only two men in line for a shot at newly crowned champ Khamzat Chimaev. Would a highlight-reel finish in Paris finally be enough to make fans remember his name? Also on this episode: you guys go hard on Luke Rockhold for getting folded up like a lawn chair by Darren Till, the Bigi Boy wins Dirty Boxing's pizza box-ass belt and Jon Jones is [checks notes] legally vindicated! This week it's Dante, and it will be amazing. Full stop. Of all the classics you could read, The Divine Comedy may be one of the most intimidating, but it's also one of the most necessary. In this episode I'll break it down and share how to make the journey approachable. You can do this.We begin with Dante's early autobiographical work, the Nuovo Vitae (“New Life”), a short book of prose and poetry reflecting on his youth and his great love, Beatrice. It's tender, romantic, and surprisingly fun, especially because Dante explains his own poems. For me, it echoed Boethius's Consolation of Philosophy with its mix of prose and verse, but here the focus is entirely on poetry itself. From there, we step into The Divine Comedy, starting with Inferno. This vast poem of 100 cantos (divided among Inferno, Purgatorio, and Paradiso) is written in tercets, here translated by Mark Musa into smooth iambic pentameter. His translation is highly readable and captures the poem's rhythm without forcing rhyme. The journey begins when Dante the Pilgrim finds himself lost “halfway through the journey of our life.” Guided by Virgil, he descends through the nine circles of Hell, encountering mythological figures, historical personages, and unforgettable imagery. The punishments fit the crimes (the doctrine of *contrapasso*): the lustful are blown by winds, fortune tellers walk with twisted heads, flatterers choke forever on filth.I'll share tips for reading Dante without getting bogged down: read quickly, jot a one-line summary of each canto, sketch a map of Hell, and above all, focus on Dante's evolving relationship with Virgil. More than an epic, Inferno is a story of finding yourself in darkness and but not staying there—and having a friend to help you. Next to the Odyssey and the Bible, this is one of the books that merits your effort. This is a year-long challenge! The Beauty and the Hell of It and Other Stories (Guernica, 2025) conjures up images of women who struggle through difficult transitions, unpleasant encounters, or ghastly boyfriends and husbands. One woman is a lesbian who sees the man who raped her a decade before, another suffers from bipolar disease, and a third is harassed by her professor. Some of them are grieving and others want vindication but few of them are living the lives they'd imagined. And then there's Liam, who is devastated by his young son's death, and who'd always loved the daughter of one of his father's wives. These are beautifully written, sensitive stories about a range of human reactions to the harsh realities of life and death. Lynda Williams is a freelance copyeditor and short fiction writer based in Calgary, Alberta. Her stories have appeared in Grain, The Humber Literary Review, and The New Quarterly, among others. Her literary influences include Raymond Carver, Pam Houston, and Lorrie Moore. Born and raised on a dairy farm in the Eastern Townships of Quebec, Lynda arrived in Calgary after a 40-hour trip on a Greyhound bus, after which she took the best shower of her life. After weeks of hearing from all sides, it's finally time to debate it! This week, we release our (mock) debate with David Artman. Seth will be taking the position (just for the debate) of annihilationism, and Jonathan (again, for the debate) of the traditional eternal-conscious-torment position. David, unsurprisingly, will defend universalism. And despite this (supposedly) being a mock debate, sparks fly! This is by far one of our most entertaining and heated episodes yet! Let us know which position you think won!And for full access to all our previous episodes in this series, check out our Patreon!

Andrew Schmidt, Mitch Meerman and Grant Pieters of the New Dogma Live Audio Situation join Rob Chappell and Ethan Maurice of Talkin' Flock for a special late season crossover episode to look at the last two games and why one was so great and the other not; talk through puzzling roster decisions; look at the whole season and the whole Glaeser era; and wonder aloud whether the club will stick with him after (or for the rest of) this season.Follow New Dogma Live here

Many different cultures from China and Southeast Asia honor the dead on the 15th day of the seventh lunar month during the Hungry Ghost Festival, also known as Zhongyuan in Daoism and Yulanpen or Ullambana in Mahayana Buddhism. In this episode, we'll trace the origins of ancestor worship to ancient Shang Dynasty Oracle Bones, or “Dragon Bones,” which were used to inscribe petitions to ancestral spirits and hold the earliest evidence of Chinese writing. Then we'll explore how regional variations of those ancient beliefs blended with the Buddhist Ulambana Sutra (or Mulian Rescues His Mother from Hell), Daoist visions of the afterlife, and Confucian teachings on filial responsibility. Over time, these influences eventually gave rise to the Hungry Ghost Festival which has continued to evolve into modern celebrations that weave together ancient traditions and modern lifestyles to honor both personal ancestors and members of the community lost in historical tragedies.TranscriptsFor transcripts of this episode head over to: https://archpodnet.com/tpm/21LinksSee photos related to episode topics on InstagramLoving the macabre lore? Jack Lombard — The Prophet of Titletown — makes his debut on The Lombardi Line, filling in while Ryan is off on “nature walks” during the biggest Packers news drop in decades. The Packers just landed Micah Parsons, and the talking heads are already screaming cap killer and win-now-or-bust. Jack isn't buying it. In this episode, Jack dismantles the lazy narrative around Parsons' contract, breaks down why elite non-QBs have never sunk a franchise, and shows how Green Bay's roster and cap structure set them up for not just contention, but inevitability. From Donald to Von to Khalil Mack, history is clear: you don't regret paying generational defenders. The storm is coming — and the rest of the league knows it.
Let's explore attachment styles. Luis has learned from personal experience that avoidant attachment types are simply bodies overwhelmed by a connection that feels overly needy, like a burden, and as a result they over-identify with independence. Anxious attachment types seek safety outside of themselves, and often end up seeking that safety in an avoidant partner. So anxious types and avoidant types often end up partnered. The overwhelmed avoidant's behavior "proves" to the anxious type their need to grasp for safety, while that same grasping "proves" to the avoidant type that they need to run. A match, my friends, made in hell. Do you find yourself in an anxious and avoidant relationship pattern, or have you had these patterns in past relationships? In the upcoming 6-month Embodied Relationships slow group, Luis will teach the difference between a trigger and a need, how to fawn less, and how to identify and state preferences. With somatic tools, an avoidant and anxious couple can learn to connect from a soft place and even become a match made in heaven. Two alternative Choose Your Own Adventure pods in one this week - a mammoth deconstruction of another day of doom or, skip to (01:25:55) for a quick 30 seconds of relative positivity. For those with the stomach for it, part one looks at the game itself. A clear mismatch of player capability, aptitude and attitude doesn't give much room for positivity and it's difficult for everyone not to look to bigger themes of summer recruitment, system rigidity and a continued long term cycle of away day challenges. A defense of data cynicism also features: it's not a barrel of laughs…Part 2 looks more deeply at the challenge at hand and the potential approach to the months leading to Christmas. Does everything rest on a huge transfer deadline day or should the club - and the head coach - finally stick and stop waiting for a magical twist. Does the Papa John's or whatever it's called matter? How should we approach Stockport? You decide. Finally, huge thanks to our listeners for sticking with us as well as the team in hard times. Huge shout outs to those of you who have contributed to keep us on air: you know who you are.COYG Hosted on Acast. See acast.com/privacy for more information.

Every single one of us who considers ourselves part of the labor movement has some real deep, serious, and urgent soul searching to do this Labor Day. After already falling to historically low levels of union density, public and private-sector unions are facing an extinction-level event under the new Trump administration. That is not hyperbole; that is a fact. So the real question is: What the hell are workers, unions, and the labor movement doing to fight back? These are the essential questions at the center of both of the interviews we are sharing in this special Labor Day episode, which were recorded at the Netroots conference in New Orleans, LA, in early August. In the first interview, Max speaks with Everett Kelley, national President of the American Federation of Government Employees, about the Trump administration's elimination of collective bargaining rights for federal unions. In the second interview, his first public interview since he was arrested by federal agents observing an ICE raid in Los Angeles in June, David Huerta, president of the Service Employees International Union – United Service Workers (West), speaks with Max about the status of his case and about the roles unions must play in the fight against fascism. Speakers: Everett Kelley is the national President of the American Federation of Government Employees, which is the largest union representing federal and DC government employees. He began his first term of service as national President in February 2020, was elected to another term during the 42nd National Convention in June 2022, and was reelected during the 43rd National Convention in August 2024. Kelley has been a member of AFGE since 1981. He worked at Anniston Army Depot and retired from there after 30 years of service. David Huerta is a longtime labor leader, born and raised in Los Angeles County, CA, who currently serves as president of the Service Employees International Union – United Service Workers (West) (SEIU-USWW). WHAT DO YOU GET when you cross a tech billionaire with the gospel? Peter Thiel, co-founder of PayPal and Palantir, a company with multiple contracts with the U.S. government, will deliver a series of four lectures on the Antichrist in September and October. He recently gave an interview with Ross Douthat of The New York Times on the Antichrist. Why does a tech entrepreneur feel the need to expound at length on the great end times enemy of God and man? And why is he doing it off the record? Thiel's lectures are presented by the ACTS 17 Collective, a non-profit started by Michelle Stephens, wife of one of Thiel's partners, Trae Stephens, co-founder of Anduril. “Acts 17” is a reference to Paul's address to the people of Athens at Mars Hill (Acts 17:16–34). The group's stated mission is bring Jesus to Silicon Valley—a place where, until recently, it was a career-killer to openly express your faith in Christ. The irony is that through his investments in companies like Palantir and Anduril, both of which supply software and hardware to the United States government, including the military and Department of Homeland Security, Thiel is building the surveillance infrastructure needed to create the global government that will one day be ruled by the Antichrist. Also: Meta's AI chatbot found to encourage vulnerable teens to engage in self-harm, and new AI model based on the way the human brain works found to outperform ChatGPT and other Large Language Models. Well the battle Royale continues…deschedule vs reschedule we have to take a second and remember our friend @cannabis.connoisseur.007 who literally spent the last bit of energy he had before passing away beating the drum and trying to get people to see that a small step in the direction of rescheduling can cause immeasurable damage to a already fragile industry. Yet our short term memory has one of his heroes @rawkandroll Josh throwing in his support for the exact opposite? We reached out to Josh and hopefully he comes on to tell us why he ha$ decided to $upport re$cheduling but we have our $u$picions. First we have @boristhehashguy from @westcoastcure_ curious to see his take and hopefully he will help us get our message to the influential yet uninformed out there that can make waves. @adamlbrook will join the convo a true Cannaseure Adam will bring his years of international industry experience to the show and give us his insights. @Dannydankoht in true reporter fashion will jump in from the Big Apple with man on the street report ….or he will just sneak out on the balcony and and smoke a joint with us. You thought we were done? Hell no we have @terryikey From @balancedveterans who is gonna come on and absorb some information before heading to D.C next month. Terry listened to us last week and went back to our Anthony V Minetti episode and now understands some of the implications that schedule 3 could have. Finally on a different tip we have Nick Nevares from the 36th annual @Crestoneenergyfair Sept 11th-14th This fair focuses on renewable/Alternative energy if you ever come to Colorado Crestone should be on your bucket list. A truly magical spot with unseen but definitely real energy flowing through it all year long. So get that @dabx GO rig charged your @jerome_baker bong Clean with some ice

On this epsisode of BBB, the boys explore a beloved author who they somehow haven't managed to review until now. Mr. Joe Abercrombie's alternate history/fantasy tale "The Devils" is the subject this time around. Hilarious, gory, and unrepentantly grim and sardonic, Stephen and Mark dive into a world of curses, werewolves, elves, Popes, and, of course, truly flawed and damaged characters. It is a world where the scariest things aren't the summoned Dukes of Hell, but the people doing the summoning. To guard against any lingering traumas from this darkly funny and brutal story, Stephen and Mark will be sampling a new bourbon whiskey from a local distillery, Geneva Lakes Bourbon Whiskey by Geneva Lakes Distilling & Studio Winery in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. On Aug. 1, the 9th US Circuit Court of Appeals overturned a court injunction halting President Trump's executive order eliminating collective bargaining rights for federal unions. The decision has cleared the way for the Trump administration to execute its total assault on federal unions and workers' rights. “Union contracts at the Department of Veterans Affairs, Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Agriculture have since been terminated,” The Guardian reports. “An estimated 400,000 have been affected, about 2.6% of unionized workers in the US.” After already falling to historically low levels of union density, public and private-sector unions are facing an extinction-level event under the new Trump administration. In this interview, recorded at the Netroots conference in New Orleans, LA, TRNN editor-in-chief Maximillian Alvarez speaks with Everett Kelley, President of the American Federation of Government Employees, about what the labor movement is doing to fight back.Guest:Everett Kelley is the national President of the American Federation of Government Employees, which is the largest union representing federal and DC government employees. It was around midnight on Sunday August 25, 1996, and 14-year-old Caroline Glachan was out walking on a path by the River Leven in Bonhill, Scotland. She told a friend she was on her way to a date. Caroline's curfew was 2 am. But she never made it home. In the morning, her mother woke up, alarmed. She started calling Caroline’s friends, but no one had seen her. So she called the police, and they immediately started searching for Caroline. It didn’t take them long to find her. Later that day, August 25, just after 4 pm, her body was found floating in the river. Almost thirty years later, her killers were finally convicted.
