In January 2007 NBA star point guard for the New Jersey Nets, Jason Kidd, filed for divorce from his wife: actress and journalist Joumana Kidd. What followed was an extremely messy, and very public end to their 10 year marriage. Fast forward 8 years to 2015, Joumana decided it was a good time to move back to her home state of California. As she was preparing to go to Los Angeles to do some house hunting, she got a phone call from her doctor that would completely change her life in more ways than one. Joumana had breast cancer and would need to undergo surgery and radiation. Little did Joumana know, this terrifying diagnosis would also be an invitation for Tracii Hutsona to casually waltz into her life. In this week's episode, I'll walk you through the tangled web of reality and fiction Tracii weaved in an attempt to propel herself back into the spotlight of fame and fortune that she'd been chasing since childhood …or at least the illusion of it. From her VIP concierge company, to a YouTube reality show, to social media posts dripping with diamonds, and even a foray into the restaurant business, Tracii pulled out all the stops this time. Even after getting caught scamming, again, she'd still managed to keep it all going for years. How many people would Tracii steal from and exploit before finally being held accountable? And how could she borrow her way into a single mother's life, while she battled breast cancer, and rip her off for millions? Follow host, Jami Rice, @JamiOnAir on Instagram and TikTok to keep up with this case, and others. Check out Jami's other true crime podcast, MURDERISH. Dirty Money Moves: Women in White Collar Crime is BACK! In Season 3, we're deep diving into the case involving Tracii Hutsona, a self-described “winner” who appeared to have it all: successful businesses, multimillion dollar mansions, luxury cars, and plenty of cash to spend on high end jewelry and vacations. She's an intriguing woman who's had a lengthy acting and modeling career, one that saw her on the cover of several major magazines, including Italian Vogue. She also had alleged romantic ties to Keanu Reeves. But the facts of Tracii's life that make her so intriguing, are also the facts we're checking and not much about Tracii seems to be real, except maybe her abilities as a con artist. Most recently, she made headlines for embezzling more than $1 million from Joumana Kidd, actress and ex wife of NBA star Jason Kidd, via Tracii's luxury concierge business. Tracii opened a restaurant in San Diego, fittingly called “Breakfast Bitch,” which was funded, in part, by Joumana's money. These recent crimes may have grabbed all the media attention, but they are by no means Tracii's first run-ins with the law. She's had a long history of schemes, going back 30 years. Yet, the most shocking thing about Tracii isn't the dollar amount she's managed to steal over the years, but the way in which she victimizes the people closest to her, over and over again. This is the story of an extremely charismatic woman who can manipulate even the most savvy person into believing exactly what she needs them to, all in the pursuit of a lifestyle of luxury, glamor, and self-indulgence. By the end of this season, you might be surprised as to how all of this chaos plays out. In Part 2 of this series, Joumana Kidd shares her experience of being deceived by a con artist posing as an “executive assistant”.  She discusses how she initially sought support and assistance during a difficult time in her life. Joumana describes how she developed trust with the culprit, as they attempted to relate to her and created a perception of genuine friendship. Joumana was eventually deceived into signing documents that gave the con artist access to her life and finances. She discovered the fraud when her financial advisor noticed unusual spending patterns. The investigation into the fraud was complex and required Joumana to advocate for herself, while navigating conversations with law enforcement and fraud investigators. Throughout the conversation, Joumana emphasizes the importance of empathy and understanding when dealing with victims of fraud and other traumatic experiences. •Trust your instincts and conduct thorough background checks before hiring someone. •Maintain control over your personal and financial information and be vigilant about monitoring your accounts. •Advocate for yourself and be persistent when dealing with law enforcement and financial institutions. •Practice empathy and understanding when interacting with victims of fraud and other traumatic experiences. •Understand that a victim's and investigators urgency may be on different perceived timelines.

Get updates from ECCHR on the trial here: https://www.ecchr.eu/en/case/trial-monitoring-first-trial-worldwide-on-torture-in-syria/ In the Higher Regional Court in Koblenz, Germany, two former Syrian intelligence officials are currently on trial for crimes against humanity. Anwar R and Eyad A are both accused of torture which allegedly took place between 2011 and 2012 at the General Intelligence Directorate’s al-Khatib detention facility in Damascus, also known as Branch 251. The landmark Al-Khatib trial marks the first time that any former members of Assad’s Syrian regime are being put on trial, and it is an important first step on the road to justice for victims. The trial is the result of a series of criminal complaints by Syrian torture survivors, relatives and activists, and it is possible because of Germany’s recognition of the principle of universal jurisdiction. Universal jurisdiction provides states jurisdiction over crimes against international law even when the crime did not occur on that state’s territory and when the perpetrator is not a national of that state. However, the principle has been relatively underused in recent years. Could the Al-Khatib trial be the turning point in a new resurgence of universal jurisdiction cases? Joumana Seif started her work as a human rights activist in Damascus in 2001 with a focus on political prisoners. As a lawyer, she supported the democratic movements in Syria, representing political prisoners. In 2012, one year after the start of the uprising against the Assad government, Seif left Syria. She co-founded the Syrian Women's Network and Syrian Women Political Movement (SWPM). In May 2017, she joined ECCHR as a research fellow in the International Crimes and Accountability program with a particular focus on sexualized and gender-based violence. Andreas Schüller joined ECCHR in 2009 and directs the International Crimes and Accountability program. He graduated from law school in Trier, Germany, studied in Orléans (France), holds a LL.M. advanced degree from Leiden University, Netherlands, in Public International Law and International Criminal Law and is admitted to the Berlin bar. Schüller works on US torture and drone strikes, UK torture in Iraq, war crimes in Sri Lanka and Syria as well as further international crimes cases.
